Still recovering from an explosive family get-together, Tarot-reading mistress of the House of Swords Sara Wilde isn’t ready to return to the war on magic. Then the Magician of the Arcana Council uses her to summon an ancient Greek deity for his own devious purposes, and Sara’s suddenly up to her elbows in oversized egos and millennia-old conflicts. Conflicts that imperil the delicate balance of power between the most formidable mortals on earth and the gods who wait beyond the veil.
To keep both gods and monsters where they belong, Sara is forced to put out the first call to arms of the four Houses of Magic since the fall of Atlantis. Unfortunately, that call brings ancient enemies into the open and reveals truths about the Council—and the Magician himself—she would have preferred not to know. Worse, a brutal resurgence of violence rocks the Las Vegas Connected community and has Sara questioning everything she knows about her closest allies, while a nagging interest from Interpol evolves into a far more insidious threat. Sara’s done her best to become a team player, but with friends like these…
Better pray it’s a wrong number when you get the Call of the Wilde.

Wonderful story! The Gods are trying to come back to Earth! The missing House of Wands has appeared! Now the 4 houses have to work together to protect the planet!
Each new book just pushes this series to the top of my favourites list! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
So many series can dwindle in their over arching storyline at around this point in a series. This is NOT one of them. There is so much development of the characters, their abilities and realationships and so many discoveries and reveals that you get that 'first book excitement' and wonder but with all the characters you know and love (or hate?)!
I did feel wary at about 3/4 of the way through, thinking that the main storyline was wrapping up but there were too many loose ends and wasn't sure where the story could go from there without becoming stagnant and then BAM! After all the revelations and everything learnt so far, you realise that we, and Sara, have so much farther to go!!
Thank goodness we only have to wait until December for the next book, I don't think I could handle a much longer wait than that!!
Every book gets better and brtter! Highly recommend all of them for modern paranormal and supernatural adventure fans!! Jenn Stark is a magician herself :D
After keeping her mother from being called into being by the evil Gamon, whom we also found out is the current head of the House of Cups, Sara Wilde was ready for a vacation. Which is exactly what she thought she was getting when the Magician invited her to do just that. Turns out, the Magician has other plans on his mind. Plans that involve Sara calling forth the deity Hera from beyond the veil to fill in the Empress position within the Council.
Doing so, however, causes other beings beyond the veil to sit up and take notice, using this brief breach to begin to tear at the fabric that protects the earth from the gods and goddesses that would destroy it. Sara knows that battle is coming and it’s time to step up as the head of the House of Swords, but she can’t do it alone. She’ll need the full support of the other Houses if there is any hope of winning. However, finding the illusive House of Wands begins to prove problematic especially when there’s a mysterious new player in Vegas and he seems to be gunning for Sara Wilde.
Call of the Wilde for me, and so far in the series, has been the stand out best. I loved seeing Sara finally step up and start to prove her mettle. Not just within the House structure but with her Connected powers and immortality as well. We see her start to make decisions that might, in the long run, be her undoing, but at the time were essential. This comes through in Sara’s interactions with Gamon—who didn’t fare so well after her encounter with Sara’s mother. Sara needs Gamon’s help even though she fully anticipates being stabbed in the back at a later time. Also, even though Sara is not sure of all she can do with her powers yet, she wielded them in a more comfortable way than we’ve seen from her up to now.
Call of the Wilde deceptively pushed the romance aspect between Sara and the Magician to the backseat. Deceptive because in actuality it’s probably the most progress we’ve seen in the growth of their relationship thus far. Albeit, Jenn Stark takes a very subtle approach, but I really liked this turn of events and I hope things continue to build up in this way between them in the next book.
We leave Sara Wilde in a very precarious position at the end of Call of the Wilde, but with quite a nice set up for Running Wilde. With the continued character growth and the fast-pacing with interesting twists and turns, Call of the Wilde is a perfect example of why this series has become one of my favorites.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I read this series almost in a week, with all the books in a row. I liked it very much and I must confess that it is quite addictive even if for me it is not a favorite. I don't vibrate with the characters and finally, the plot is less important to me than whether Sara and Armaeus will end up together =) (or if Kreios who said some very mysterious things will take the lead ... Or even Nigel =D) Yes in this book, the plot moved on enormously, the foes and friends of yesterday are no longer all white or all black, there are new key characters ... But I expect more from the next books =)
Wow, just wow! Another action packed book by Jenn Stark. It took me a little longer to get into this book than normal as there are a lot of story lines going on: Gamon, SANCTUS, Dixie, Nikki, Brody, The Magician, The Devil, The Ant Men and lots of other characters, Gods and Goddesses make an appearance and all seem to have their own storyline to Sara. In this book Sara finds out that friends and enemies are closely related and to trust no one but herself. We again fly all around the world and the authors descriptions of places and people are wonderful and it is almost like you are there and those people are standing in front of you! The action in this book is top notch and it makes you think about how one woman can go through so much and still keep standing. I especially liked the development of her relationship with The Devil and it will be interesting to see where this goes. I don't want to give any spoilers away! Read the book and then be a little sad that you have to wait until December to see what happens. I was given this ARC copy for an honest review.
A magical whirlwind ride. Not to be cliche but it's like that saying goes with great power comes great responsibility. Well Sarah's got the powers and their upgrades but the responsibility is kicking her assets. Between parental issues, getting enemy's to work with her instead of kill her, and trying to keep the gods out, life is getting hard. No matter what someone's out to get her whether it's Interpol, mom, or another house.
My only critique is that it should have a guide in the front of the book NOT the back (like most have now) of who is who. I read these books on my kindle and am constantly highlighting and noting descriptions of people and God's and their various names so I can go back and reference them later on.
Just under a year ago I found this awesome series of books! I read the first book," Getting Wilde" and got hooked. I finished this book and wow! The story is excellent and the plot has twists some of which I did not expect. You will find traitors, new helpers and interesting changes in the characters. Sara is having so many changes in her life but she wants to help the gifted and the human race. Will the council be supportive and what about the Magician? Read this excellent book and get hooked but you will need to read the rest of the books as this book is not a stand alone book. I recommend this series of books written by an excellent and gifted author, Jenn Stark!
Awesome awesome awesome!! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I love this series! I wanted more magician and I got it! This next chapter explains a lot of the mysterious backstory but yet still Leaves enough unexplained that I really now am dying for the next part which probably won't be for a while! That's the only bad thing - waiting on the rest. I enjoyed the evolving skills and reasoning of the heroine and can't wait to see how she comes into more of her own in the next book. It's quite well written and a unique storyline. Definitely worth some quality reading time.
Sara is stalked by dark assassins at every turn. The magician has her retrieve someone from beyond the veil that has cataclysmic repercussions. Her magic is upgrading as she tries to manage the House of Swords she inherited from Soo. Dire predictions that a coming rip in the veil will affect all humanity, and Sara has to join all 4 houses to stop it. And house of Wands has been missing for centuries. Epic magic battle, betrayal, magic, magic, magic. Nikki was front and center with Sara. Have I said I really like Nikki?? I really like Nikki.
Every time I get to enjoy another Call of the Wilde book, I'm seriously surprised because each one is better than the last. This is one of my absolute favorite series! I love seeing Sara's growth, learning more about the Council & the Houses and the individuals within them, and especially unraveling the mysteries about my favorite characters! Each book provides as many new questions as answers - I can't wait to see where Sara's journey to the truth takes her next!
5 Stars… This series just gets more compelling with each read… Sarah’s story continues to unravel providing answers and questions in tandem challenging readers to further delve into the complexities of her mysterious existence… We watch as her character continues to evolve from treasure hunter and savior for the Connecteds to a dynamic and powerful leader in the war on magic… Add in the complex and complicated relationships with the supporting characters primarily the Magician and you have an addictive read that captures the imagination and feeds the adventurers soul:)
This series gets better and better. It's written so well that there's that perfect amount of detail to really see the story as you read it but not too much that it becomes boring and redundant. The author is able to surprise me with a lot of the plot twists and does a nice job of continuing story lines through the next book, sometimes concluding them, other times having them branch off of course time through to the next book in the series.
All the best bits that I want to talk about are spoilers, so I need to content myself by saying - buy. This. Book. NOW.
Call of the Wilde brings about so many changes and nuances and characters and see - I can't talk about any of it without wrecking it for someone. Suffice to say, I have been a HUGE fan of this series since the beginning, and it is just getting better and BETTER!
8 books in a week. That's how good this series is. It's a lot of fun! And it's only a couple of months until the next one is released!! We finally get to see what is meant 'the tearing of the veil' and what lurks beyond that veil. Between the final house revealing itself, Sara developing MORE powers (of course) and generally being pretty fun to read I really liked this one. I also adored the ending - I liked that she does the human thing instead of the 'right' thing. So excited for No.9!!!
I was lucky enough to get this early as I love the Immortal Vegas series and, wow, this is a fantastic read! You jump straight in and it careers round Greece, then Vegas and onwards.
All my favourite characters are in but there's some serious shocks leading to a fabulous climax. I seriously don't know how this book can be beaten. Highly recommended.
Another great book by Jenn Stark! I love the Immortal Vegas series and this newest book did not disappoint. Sara is a very strong main character who is flawed and more likable for it. Nikki was as fabulous as ever. I would like to see more Nigel in the near future and more Death. The book was a tad confusing in a few spots but that was my only complaint. I can't wait for the next book!!
As you start you fall for Sara and as you go further into her life , past and present (and maybe future) you fall for her circle and root for the next battle . I love when death comes into the stories such a character. We are nearing the end how will Sara and her circle battle the next threat of GODS !
I was pleasantly surprised. This was a page turner throughout. I was well and truly impressed with Sara. She took charge and was not stumbling around. She is a leader in this book and def looking forward to what is to come.
I think I've enjoyed this book most of the series so far. So many unexpected twists. With so many characters and agendas, the story line is getting complicated, but there is never a dull moment for Sara
Sara manages to get all of the houses to cooperate in order to send the gods back beyond the veil, but also manages to become a most wanted person of international law enforcers. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
The whole drug thing bored me but a lot happened past the halfway point. All four houses are back in action, she's a fugitive and two gods are back. I love the Greek gods.
