Stupid Smart

Ever since I was a little girl, all I ever wanted was to get married. To meet the perfect man who’d love me more than life itself and be a wonderful father to all our beautiful children.

I loaded up on chapstick and prepared myself for all the frogs I’d have to kiss to find my prince. But I hadn’t been prepared for just how slimy and gross those metaphorical amphibians could be. And as I got older, the toads got hornier and hornier. (No pun intended, but we’re talking men here, so… yeah.)

Still, I refuse to give up, no matter how many obstacles are thrown my way.

Liam, however, has other plans for my future.

Every inch the bad boy with his leather jacket, dark eyes and tattoos, you’d never expect his personality to be more along the lines of class clown. The combination is oddly sexy. Just ask any woman of legal age in the city of New York, since he’s likely slept with all of them by now.

A simple misunderstanding made us enemies. Now I can’t get rid of him. He’s like a bad case of herpes that just keeps flaring up at the worst of times. And if he sabotages one more of my dates, I’m going to kill him. Or kiss him.

Most days I can’t decide which I’d rather do more.

What's up world - I'm Jenn Hype.

Author, mother, wife, singer/songwriter, aspiring comedian - I wear many hats. Some of them fit, some of them look ridiculous, and all of them are fun. Life's too short to take anything too seriously, so I don't.

Sarcasm is my go-to, especially when it's most inappropriate. Need someone to make an uncomfortable situation even more awkward? I'm the girl for the job.

I'm ridiculously A.D.D. and I own it. I have a serious addiction to ecards and the majority of my Pinterest account is dedicated to them. The key to my heart is glitter and caffeine - my needs are basic.

I'm a bookaholic and I crush hard on my book boyfriends and their authors. Some might call me obsessive, but I disagree. That word really doesn't do justice to how crazy I get when it comes to something I'm passionate about. I'm not afraid to go fangirl on you, so don't test me.

Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask. I'm an open book, and I love to hear from readers

Jenn Hype knows how to write girls that we can relate to. Her heroines in this series have always had that fun, snarky inner voice that most of us understand. But, the girl in this book? Holy Moly! She is so neurotic and emotional that I think she needs a big mac-sized xanex for breakfast each day!

Clara is a virgin who was dumped by her fiance for wanting to wait for marriage. And, she wants marriage badly. She's the kind of girl who has a wedding dream book that she has been working on since the age of 12 and likes to go try on wedding gowns as a hobby.

Liam is a guy whose idea of commitment is his gym membership so that he can keep his hot bod as a gift to all the ladies.

Along with chlamydia... that's his other gift to the ladies...

These two will be the perfect couple, right???
Um, yeah.
So, they are into each other, but pretend not to be by pretending to hate each other. You know, like grown-ups.

The sexual tension is thick here.

Liam decides he wants to grow up and pursue a real relationship with Clara, which sounds like a really cool thing. The thing he doesn't know is that Clara is batshit crazy. This girl cries every single day. She goes through emotions like a rapper sampling good music, and with the same results...

Okay, actually her results are kinda scary/needy - not awesome music that makes me crave a neon scrunchie and Hammer-pants.

But, when Liam decides to commit - he really commits. This guy deserves saint status by the end of the book. Clara's occupation should be listed as Stage 4 Clinger specializing in Over-analyzing, Jumping to Conclusions, and Crying. And, he puts up with it all! I would totally change my identity to get away from a chick like this and that's just as a friend. She needs a full-time emotional support person. No, not support animal. That would be animal abuse.

Okay, maybe Honey Badger could handle the job, because we all know he don't give a shit.

Like the other books in this series, this one is funny and has a lot of great scenes. Also, the side-characters are from the past books so you feel like you are getting to know this group of people. I didn't relate to Clara in any way, but I still liked the book. It was a lot of fun.

Liam and Clara are one of the funniest duo’s I’ve met! Hilarious inner monologues matched by outrageous hijinks, love doesn’t always have to be dark to be completely satisfying. I laughed out loud more than once to the sarcasm and pure fun that they either caused or were party to as they worked through their attraction in oh so human ways… A player and a love-seeker get together in a salty and sweet take on what it means to fall in love with the out of bounds. Family, friends, they’re there too, offering their two cents at each and every turn.

If you haven’t read this series then you are in for a treat because these characters and their stories will charm you….

Stupid Smart is book 3 in the Jaded series but can be read as a complete standalone.

Clara wants nothing more than her perfect happily ever after - husband, kids, white picket fence. She goes on dates with an endless stream of frogs trying to find her prince, but they all seem to be getting worse, not better. And somehow each date lately has one thing in common - Liam shows up and ruins it.

All Liam wants is to have fun and enjoy all the beautiful women vying for his attention. Relationships are the last thing on his mind, and he doesn't plan to ever commit. But somehow Clara has gotten under his skin, and he will do whatever he can to keep her from finding happiness with anyone other than him.

While I enjoyed the banter and enemies to lovers aspect that kicked off this book the story fell a bit flat for me after that. I wanted to love these two, but I didn't really feel any chemistry between the two. Clara & Liam both have their issues and I loved how they were open and honest with each other, however, the issues seemed to just disappear out of nowhere. I would have loved to see their relationship develop more and not just go from one extreme to the other.

Stupid Smart is book three in the Jaded series and stars Clara Jade and Liam Langford. This is a hysterical enemy to lovers romantic comedy.
Jenn Bhypr is great at what she does and that is putting out sassy snarky characters you can't help but love. Clara and Liam fall right into that category. Liam is drool-worthy with his charming go get it attitude and Clara is so real with her insecurities masked by a sunny disposition. I can't recommend this book enough.

This story was very easy to read and I didn't expect to just finish so fast lol
Clara and Liam started out on the wrong foot and kept at it..just because it's easier to keep up with the situation instead of falling all over each other.
Clara is pretty young, more emotionally than in regard to her age..even tho at times I couldn't help but think she was too much in her head, it doesn't mean I can't understand her feelings..I know at one point or another we all go through the rollercoaster of emotions and insecurities.
I really believe Liam is a saint..he has endless patience and he is never patronising..you can feel how much he cares and that is very sweet.
there are a few funny moments and the group of friends/family are a little crazy, BUT I love how much they have each other's back.
A sweet story..I will def read the previous books.

This whole series has been laugh out loud perfection and Stupid Smart is absolutely no exception. Liam and Clara have been on my watch list from the first and now that they are here, it was well worth the wait. Clara has always had her heart set on her MRS and all her fairytale dreaming had lead her to a lot of duds in the meantime. It seems as though fate kept her waiting, but for what? Liam has his bad boy edge down to a science. He has a finely cultivated image that he uses as a shield. When circumstances lead to these two fighting like cats and dogs, it’s painful obvious what is fueling their fires! Get read to pee your pants and sigh for days!

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book

I enjoyed the story of Liam and Clara, but it felt like something was missing. At times, it didn't feel like there was a connection between the two characters and there was a lot of focus on Clara's issues, but she never really seemed to address them and everyone around her didn't encourage her to get the help she clearly needed. There were also some inconsistencies, which I would've expected to be picked up at beta stage, and I found myself flicking back to check if what I'd read earlier was correct before I could continue with the story.

The book held my interest though and I was sat up until past midnight reading because I wanted to see what happened. I would pick up another book by this author because her stories are enjoyable and engaging

This is a cute romcom. Clara is a sweetheart just a bit neurotic. She is confident in most cases but I’d full of self doubt too. She is emotional to the extreme. She loves hard and faithful. She is the one in the group everyone takes care of. She has dreams of love and marriage. Liam is the group jokester. Always playing pranks. He is anti relationship. They get off on the wrong foot when they first meet. They relationship is a constant battle of wits. It’s a fun filled book with Liam constantly rescuing Clara from horrible dates and Clara’s crazy internal talks. Read how both characters grow and fall in love.

Stupid Smart is a cute romantic comedy featuring two neurotic lead characters that find love with each other despite their best efforts not to. I enjoyed Liam and Clara's story: I truly appreciated that both Liam and Clara (though mostly Clara) had deep seated issues that posed problems to either of them developing a real and lasting relationship with the opposite sex. I also really liked that Liam got over his issues in order to do what was necessary to pursue Clara in a meaningful way (though that happened rather quickly considering how long he had embraced his playboy lifestyle). But while I liked Clara and her affinity for 50's fashion, high heels, red lipstick and cat eye liner, I just didn't vibe with her. She acknowledged her issues, yet was unwilling to find the source of them or address them. And everyone around her just took the stance of accepting those issues and coddling her. Or maybe they were just being supportive. I'm on the fence. One thing that I really did like about the book is the way that Clara and Liam broke the fourth wall (sort of like Zack Morris a la Saved By the Bell) and addressed the reader directly. It added a bit of levity and humor to the book that I enjoyed. 3 out of5 wine glasses.

This was a free ebook download and I couldn’t wait to start this novel. The synopsis was fun and snarky and I was expecting this book to make me laugh out loud. I was charmed with the description and I had high expectations that this book was going to be good. So I curled up with my Kindle in my favorite chair and [metaphorically] opened the cover to begin.

My high expectations going into the novel were quickly disappointed, however. The characters were hard to stomach. Our heroine was crying during half of the novel and seemed very bipolar. She needed help, not romance. She was whiney and majorly insecure, something that is talked about every other second but is never addressed in any real way.

The hero was described as a “bad boy/class clown” which is probably a hard thing for an author to pull off; that’s an uphill battle from the get-go. The problem was that she couldn’t pull off either description at all, making her unsuccessful in convincing me that either description was true. We got no details or incidents of the pranks he was known for pulling (we only got told he pulled them). To make it worse, he didn’t display any traits I consider “bad boy” except maybe confidence, which you don’t have to be a “bad boy” to have.

Additionally, there was no chemistry between the h/H. And yet, our heroine opens up to him and tells him all of her deepest darkest secrets and insecurities within 5 minutes of them dating, not to mention the fact that they’re “in love” after less than a week – and that includes 2 sort-of break-ups. Seems legit. Everything about them fell flat as a couple.

The plot – or rather, any plot – was almost non-existent. It started out with a little promise, but seemed to quickly unravel. The characters had no real problems or adventures during their 5-minute relationship. (This point may be argued by some due to the heroine’s major insecurities, but it was like the hero just shrugged and brushed it off because he still wanted to be with her. If he can't be bothered to be bothered, I’m not counting it as a problem or struggle).

The writing style of the book was also disappointing, and it had a more immature feel to it. Don’t get me wrong, this book had some cursing and sexual situations – so it’s more R-rated in regards to content - but it lacked any sophistication and the structure of the story was clumsy. There were also several grammatical errors and needed better editing. It wasn’t enough to completely turn me off of it, but it did distract me a few times.

The book held my interest enough that I finished it and finished it quickly but I’ll be deleting it from my Kindle. Other reviewers may think it was a “cute” read but this book was just too inconsistent and had too many flaws for me to enjoy like I had hoped.

Stupid smart was a great story it would be the third book in the series and the third one that I've had the pleasure reading by Jenn Hype it most likely wont be the last read that will be going in my kindle . I really liked the relationship between Liam and Clara through out the series I really enjoyed the little scenes with them so I was super happy to see this one be about them . You could really feel the attraction between them in the first chapter and then see the attraction gradually grow . Liam and Clara could really get into it with each other you didn't know weather to brake up the soon to be bomb or give those two some alone time and wait not long mind you for the explosion . Liam was very likable even when he would ruin the heroines dates it was fun to see what he would do while being hilarious and protective at the same time . Clara did frustrate me a bit but it was understandable with her set goal and heart bake of a past . I was happy to see the couples from the past two books in the jaded series and I hope to see more of them in the future . The cover fits the couple perfectly I really liked the other two covers also and can't wait to see the next cover .

Yes it’s the first month of the year, yes it’s way too early to say so but I’m calling it now. Stupid Smart will be on my top five favorite books of the year, the decade, my life. LOL.
This book.. gah. SO MANY EMOTIONS. I swear, if I didn’t know any better I’d say the words in this book were taken straight out of my life. And yes I know so many readers will probably say the same but, I can legit attest to this with the amount of highlighting I did in my kindle while reading this book. I’m pretty sure there are more highlighted passages than not after I was through. I’m not over it, so much so that I sent a copy of it to my best friend so we could read it together.. I kinda finished it before she even started but.. she has a cute baby to distract her and I have no life. 😂

Clara and Liam.. a hate to love story where the two main characters bicker so much that you at first may think the author was insane to pair them together. From crashing Clara’s dates to driving everyone around them crazy with the built up romantic tension this book has no shortage of laughs, tears, LOADS of smiles and all the ooey gooey feelings that just make you smile like a loon while strangers and family members stare you wondering if you need to be committed. 🤷🏼‍♀️😅

Go read this book. Love it as much as I did and get ready to smile your head off.

I really enjoyed Stupid Smart. This book kept me laughing and that's not always easy to do. Clara and Liam definitely were fun to read about. They were driving each other crazy one minute, annoying each other the next, but when they clicked they sure clicked.

Clara is just like every little girl who dreams of meeting their Prince Charming. She wants to have the house, with the kids and the picket fence. I know I sure had those dreams as a kid too. Clara knows that her dream won't happen over night. She's going to meet a lot of duds along the way, but she'd eventually meet her match.

Liam enters the picture and she absolutely hates everything about him. He invokes all these feelings and it's all very confusing to her. Clara really isn't his cuppa tea either. She annoys him, yet he can't stop thinking about her. These two have a slow burning journey ahead of them and I loved reading every single second of it.

Stupid Smart was written really well, had a great plot, great character development, was funny, and kept you interested all the way through. I absolutely suggest this stand alone read.

Stupid Smart is book three in the Jaded series and is the story of Clara Jade and Liam Langford. This is a hilarious enemies to lovers romantic comedy.

The chemistry between Clara and Liam in undeniable, maybe even to themselves at times. Their banter back and forth had me laughing, plus Liam always showing up and ruining Clara’s dates.
I’ve read the previous books and was different intrigued by these two, so I was happy to be able to finally weird their story and learn more about them. This book did not disappoint. It was a little of a slow burn and I was impatient and found myself yelling at Clara and Liam to just hook up already, because I knew once it happened it would be off the charts.

Clara did get slightly annoying at times with her need for love but at the same time it is hard to fault the girl because she just wants what every girl wants. Liam is definitely that stereotypical man whore, but he does have a sweet, romantic, soft side to his personality that is capable of so much more.

I found myself wanting more to the story and history of Clara’s sister and Liam’s coworker, so I do hope that they get a story in the future.

Sweet

I B liked the book but it wasn’t my fave. I liked the previous book better. I get needing angst to delay the HEA. But I found Clara to be quite annoying and childish at times. Yes I lived her innocence and ability to be adorable when she said the most honest things but she was ridiculous sometimes. Like I get this image you want but it’s not realistic. And then to just cut off contact and communication to ‘find yourself’ or whatever and learn about not needing validation from others after starting a relationship was irresponsible and hurtful to the other party especially since Liam has been nothing but upfront. (Minus the stupid party for his dad). If she wanted space she could have had an adult convo told him her feelings, let him explain what actually happened and how right when it happened he then proceeded to leave early to come to her only to be shut out was BS. Then she could have said I need time to regroup. Like and ADULT. but no. I loved Liam. He was respectful and true to himself and her and tried to make her see how much he cared. She just never believed him. Ending was cute.

I can't recall the last time that two main characters who were the equivalent of oil and water were such an absolutely perfect match!
This is an entertaining and enchanting romance that will check all your boxes!
This had me in stitches from the opening scene - Moreover, if I had the results that Clara seemed to be encountering with her "blind dates" I would have given in long ago - Cats and Netflix forever
Clara is sweet on the outside and tangy as all on the inside (she is a reverse sour bear! ) I liked that she lived her life how she felt comfortable from her dress to her endearing attitude 😉 she was a constant source of wonderment
Liam - that boy has it bad - he is the player, the joker, the commitment-phobe and her brother's employee - making him off-limits to Clara - not to mention he is a womanizer and an arse! What started out for Liam as a bit of a joke has become a challenge he has no intention of losing
This is one of this years must-reads!
A whole lot of laughter softened with a bit of angst enveloped in the purest of loves
Don't pass this one up

There is a whole lot of crazy going on in this book, and it all seems to turn on a dime. Hmmm… suddenly Pam Tillis’s Mi Vida Loca is playing though my head. That fits a little too well. I loved that Liam and Clara own up to their issues and embrace the chaos. And it’s especially refreshing to see them advocating talking it all out, working through it all together. I find it stretches believability a tiny bit how fast Liam’s phobia turns around, but I can support that aspect of the story. I’ve seen it happen in real life, so I know it’s not impossible. I have a real problem with the way Clara’s meltdown before the end is handled. All it would have taken was anything suggesting that she was getting professional help for the issues that caused the meltdown, and I would have glossed over it in the same way it appears their family and friends do. But I didn’t see that, and that bothers me. I love that they’re moving forward from there, and the set up for the next pairing has me preparing to embrace even more of the chaos.

Stupid Smart by Jenn Hype is book Three in the Jaded Series. This is the story of Liam Langford and Clara Jade. I haven't yet read the previous books so for me this was a standalone book, but I did enjoy this one so much that I want to go read the other books for sure!
Clara has dream from a little girl about her marriage, husband and their kids. Clara was realist that she would have to go through some bad dates to find the 'one'. But she just keeps meeting men that are not for her at all. Liam works for her brother CJ at Jade Securities and since their first meeting they have rub one another like sandpaper. Liam brings out a side she has never scene before in herself but he also brings out desire she has never felt before. Liam is in denial about his feelings for Clara...yes he is attracted to her but he isn't making the connection that she what he needs.
Can these two slow to come around to their feelings, finally face their feelings? Enjoyed their story!

OMG this story was so awesome! I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED every hilarious moment! There's the heroine, Clara, who wants to get married, have kids with the white picket fence. And no matter how many frogs she had to kiss to get it, well, she's up for the task. Then there's the hero, Liam, he's something else. He's the bad boy that we can't help but to love, and he's made it his mission to drive Clara crazy. And this made me laugh until my sides hurt, so don't drink while reading. They had chemistry in spades, but it was a slow burn situation, as their interactions were quite entertaining in the most frustratingly ways possible. It had me ready to scream while laughing to be honest. Clara wanted the HEA, while Liam was the manwhore, so you can only imagine, although, as the journey goes on, we get to see there's more to him after all. Jenn Hype penned a fantastic story which I never wanted to end, and I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

I must say, I've fallen head over heels in love with this series. I find myself waiting, impatiently for the next amazing book by Jenn Hype. I loved this book from start to finish. I loved Liam and his love for Clara. I don't know that I would necessarily call this an enemies to loves story, just because these two really did have feeling for each other. They just didn't know how to handle them.

This story was hilarious. I can't begin to tell you how many times I was laughing out loud. I loved the chemistry between these two and how great they were together. The build up to these two was great to watch. Just when you thought you knew what would happen, Jenn would pull something out of left field and add just the right amount of comedy to these two. I loved this story from start to finish and can't wait to see what's to come.

This is the first time I read a book from this author and it was okay, but I simply could not. I DNF'd. I wasn't really into it, but then there was the mugging and I felt like I was reading some regency romance written 20 years ago.
How helpless our young (really, not that young) heroine was, and how strong and alpha and he-man the hero was... They live in a big city, but he couldn't let her get hurtor go through (it was a mugging, not an attempted rape). So instead, he went berserk and instead, beat the crap out of those petty criminals. But all in good honor, since he's a professional security guy.
It was unnecessary and just ugh. A hero is more of a hero if he doesn't beat people senseless.

Love it

Another amazing book from Hype. I knew when I first read Pressing Adalyn, her debut, she would grow to be an amazing author and I was right *smug grin*
I've been in a slump all month nothings really held my attention until this. Clara's story could be any woman. All the insecurities Clara feels resonates deeply. A story of an average woman trying to make her way in life, with all the struggles that come with it. Love and worthiness being main struggle. And Liam. Swoon. I'm keeping him for myself. A brilliant read which can be read as a standalone but will be better if the others are read first in my opinion
Can't wait to see what's next for this series

Stupid Smart is a funny romance that will make you appreciate the author's humorous writing. This is a story about Clara and the struggles she goes through in her dating life. Clara is a different person then most women. She has her own quirky style and is viewed as a fun and innocent person. Liam is all man, cocky and self assured. He is a jokester but when Clara tests him he is pushed to his limits. I liked how the author introduced them to one another. I thought the story was funny but it was a bit slow starting. I liked this story and if you like Rom-Com stories and the unlikely couple, then this is the book for you.

Good rom-com featuring Clara, the neurotic 50's pin up style fashion designer, and Liam, her brother's employee. Clara just wants to be liked by everyone, but she has a big brother, who has been having Liam sabotage all her dates. Her one and only Ex cheated on her, which just added to her anxieties. Liam is the prankster, who avoids commitment at all costs. When he realized that Clara is The One, he has to overcome his previous reputation and all of her issues. I loved the back and forth between the two with Liam turning out to be a great guy. Clara can be over the top needy, but is very lovable.
