This was a good fast paced thriller with a second chance romance. The thriller part is the main focus of this book. Eric is framed for murder by a crooked cop. He visits his ex girlfriend Sarah trying to find answers. Before long they are both running for their lives trying to prove Eric's innocence. I really liked both Eric and Sarah and found them to be strong characters. I was a bit surprised by part of the ending which was satisfying.
2.5 Stars Ok, this is sort of a second-chance romance, but the majority of the book is dedicated to the murder mystery/running from the crooked cops. It’s written well, but it got repetitive with the cycle of looking for clues… almost getting caught… repeat. The romance part was definitely in the background, but both couples were likeable, and there wasn’t any relationship drama. (other than Sarah giving Eric another shot) It’s totally safe, Eric broke up because of “commitment fears” and had no idea she was pregnant.
Bottom Line- Sweet, vanilla-ish, thriller-ish mystery 2nd chance romance that’s free in the Kindle store. (if no longer on-sale, it’s part of KU.
I chose to read Rocky Mountain Fugitive this month because it fulfills the March keyword reading challenge here at Bookmark to Blog ("mountain" was a March keyword).
Initially, my book for the March reading challenge was Street Magic by Caitlin Kittredge ("magic" was another March keyword), but I just couldn't handle the fantasy, and chose to discard that particular novel.
I purchased a bundle of these Harlequin Intrigue novels months ago while on a major romance binge. I rarely read romance, but sometimes I need a break from the more severe literary novels, and from all the horror novels I frequently read. These short Harlequins are just a small enough dose of romance and innocence to satisfy me for a few days before I dive back into intense reading.
In Rocky Mountain Fugitive, an estranged couple is reunited incidentally when they learn that their local sheriff is framing them for a crime they didn't commit.
Eric Lander is out on a rock-climbing adventure with Randy Trask - the town's notorious troublemaker - when the sheriff and his men arrive and literally shoot Randy down. Eric then makes a getaway for the ranch owned and ran by Sarah Trask - Randy's sister - to break the news to her about her brother.
However, when Eric arrives at the ranch, Sarah is already being held hostage by the evil and sinister sheriff. When Eric and Sarah finally manage to escape the sheriff, they are forced to run for their lives, and to get to the bottom of the reason for the sheriff's blackmail.
Sarah is about three months pregnant with Eric's child, but the two must first work through their past issues if they want to be together - 'til death do them part.
Rocky Mountain Fugitive is more action-suspense than romance, which makes for a refreshing interlude from the usual sappiness these types of novels encompass. Don't get me wrong, this one has its fair share of sappy romantic thoughts that fly through the heads of both Eric and Sarah, but it's perfectly endurable. There are no lulls in this very busy and action-packed novel.
The mystery portion of Rocky Mountain Fugitive is well-thought out, and offers a bit of a surprising ending. My favorite part of the novel is when Eric and Sarah hitch a ride on a trailer to get to the Cody, Wyoming rodeo grounds in an effort to learn more about the owner of a rodeo championship belt buckle. I find it remarkable that Sarah can get around like a champ jumping over fences and running through the wild considering her pregnant condition. Awesome.
Thankfully, my least part of the novel didn't happen until the very last sentence of the book: "He knew every day would be a glorious adventure and love would flow like a virgin waterfall swollen by the melt of spring." Okay, then. *puke*
Fugitive is the second book in Ann Voss Peterson’s Rocky Mountain Thriller series. In this book, readers meet Sarah Trask and Eric Lander. Sarah owns and runs a ranch. Eric is a wilderness guide. Eric and Sarah dated for several months and then Eric walked away. Three months later, Sarah is pregnant and finds herself embroiled in dangerous schemes hatched by her wayward brother, Randy. Eric realizes she is in danger and his protective streak is awaken. When he learns she is carrying his baby his possessive streak emerges. Can he keep her safe? Will they find happiness? You must read this book to discover the outcome.
I enjoyed this character-driven plot with a theme of betrayal versus trust. I liked how Ms. Patterson wove in motivating forces of greed, corruption, and abuse of power to move her plot along. I enjoyed Sarah and Eric’s quest as they hunted for truth behind the murders of Randy and the others. Ms. Patterson’s characters, both primary and secondary were well-designed and multi-layered. I appreciated Ms. Patterson’s use of descriptive language. Her picturesque nature scenes were realistic while her action scenes were riveting. I liked how she wrapped all details up in her epilogue. Nice job, Ms. Patterson.
Eric’s friend Randy is shot dead while the are out rock climbing and he narrowly escaped the same fate. Not having a clue at what has happened he runs to check in on randys sister and finds her held against her will by the town sheriff. On the run and trying to put the pieces together it’s a race against time for them to find out what has happened.
The suspense here was palpable. I loved the very descriptive climbing scenes, as a learner climber made me be able to view everything clearly. Eric wasn’t my normal type of book hero. A bit too out of tune with his emotional side. But he got his head out his backside eventually. All in all really good
This riveting drama assaults your senses immediately by throwing the reader and the characters right into the middle of a deadly attack. Wildness Guide, Eric Lander, escapes with a minor head wound and plenty of questions. His climbing buddy, Randy Trask, wasn't that lucky. Randy's sister, Sarah, Eric's ex-girlfriend, is in danger of being the next victim. He has to save her. Once this action-packed adventure begins, the plot moves ahead with amazing speed as the Eric and Sarah attempt to stay ahead of the killers and live long enough to solve the mystery that got Randy killed. The action is non-stop, and the story is definitely engrossing. I couldn't wait to finish this book. Really Enjoyable! Great Read!!!!!
An AVP. Rocky Mountain Thriller (2)/Fraud/Murder/Rock Climbing/A New Sheriff
AVP. has penned. A Rocky Mountain Thriller were deception, meth, murder and time in jail are prominent in the story line. Two men are rock climbing up a cliff when one is Murdered by men losing as deputies. The chase goes on and then after a man is murdered the chase is on to determine who or what is the guilty party. The people seeking justice and quality treatment find they are independent killers. This is an excellent read for the genre.
Eric used to date Sarah and then he ended their relationship. Randy is Sarah's brother and Eric and Randy used to and still do hang out together. They like to go mountain climbing together.
When Eric and Randy are mountain climbing and the Sheriff's deputies kill Randy, Eric and Sarah are now on the run.
This book keeps you hanging trying to figure out why the Sheriff and his deputies were killing people. Or at least trying to kill Sarah and Eric as well as Randy.
I know it sounds bad, but once the murdering and chase starts then the book gets really good.
Eric and Sarah face crooked police and a bigger coverup when Sarah’s brother is killed by the sheriff’s deputies while climbing to a peak. He was just out of jail and looking for something to get him money to pay back a debt.
Sarah and Eric end up on the run, trying to sort out the mystery. They find a dead body, which leads them to a bigger story about bribery, perjury, and murder.
Great suspense, lots of potential killers, a few fun scenes like at the rodeo. Enjoyed it.
This was the first book I have read by this author so I didn’t know really what to expect. The reviews all praised it, so I tried it. There was plenty of action that never let up. The characters were ok which is why I gave it 4 stars. Not really happy or satisfied with either of the two main characters. The bad guys were bad and I did see the surprise coming at the end. All in all it was a good read.
Tired of books that take forever to get going? Read a thriller by Ann Voss Peterson! This one is set out west in the mountains, and features a love story, bad cops, a chase through the wilderness, in a well-written story that will definitely keep your interest. This one is free on kindle unlimited right now, and the sequel was free to download, no membership necessary. Betcha I will like that one too!
This is the story about former lovers that find themselves on the run from the law. Sara and Eric aren’t sure who they can trust, but they trust each other. This fast-pace book has action, a little romance, and a few twist. I have to admit I didn’t figure out the mystery surrounding the murder of Sara’s brother. I like when the author keeps me guessing.
This thriller has a strong romantic subplot that builds up steam, but never gets too explicit. The mystery twists and turns, with one white-knuckled, close escape after another. There's no time for wallowing in angst or self-indulgent, internal monologues. With clean editing and superb writing, this fast-paced thriller does not disappoint. Bravo!
What is behind the murder of Sarah's brother, Randy? Money, greed, drugs, revenge, justice, or something else? Why are they trying to blame it on Eric? Will this being Eric and Sarah back together or will it drive them even further apart? Action-packed from the very first page.
In this case, we have Sarah's brother, not a very good person himself, get killed because he wanted to blackmail the wrong person. Unfortunately, he drags Sarah and Eric, Sarah's ex boyfriend into it as well. A lot happens in a short period of time - I think around 5 or 6 days, so be prepared.
I almost didn't finish reading this. Unknown to some, but there are towns that have criminals on the judicial bench and wearing a badge! This hit too close to home! Read it anyway.
Sarah felt she was running the whole ranch with just a little help from her workers. Eric had left her 3 months ago saying he couldn't love her enough to stay. Her brother was released from jail so maybe things would all work out the way she dreamed.
Understanding oneself is difficult enough without trying to understand what causes others to do the things they do. The story begins with a murder which leads to more disturbing secrets, betrayals and twists in the plot!
This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. It was very suspenseful with a strong love story. Sarah is a great character and so is Eric. I enjoyed reading about them dealing with their past relationship and moving forward.
This story has a lot of danger, action, suspense and a little romance thrown in keeps you turning the pages until the very end hats off to this author looking forward for more books from her
This story was so good that one minute you thought you knew what was going on then something would change. I loved it!! You need to read it to find out who the real killer was or was it killers! Plus enjoy the love story that went along with it
ERIC & SARAH ARE ON THE RUN, RUNNING ON SHEAR FEAR AND ADRENALINE, DANGER LURKS AROUND EVERY CORNER. A LOT OF HEART STOPPING SITUATIONS, REMINDED ME OF A MODERN DAY WESTERN WITH A POSSE AND ALL. SHADES OF SYLVESTER STALLONE’S CLIFFHANGER MOVIE, EXCITING A SHORT QUICK READ. ;D
This is my first Ann Voss Peterson book and I am happy to say I found it to be a good read with plenty of action and the suspense of not knowing who to trust. Eric and Sarah are thrown into life threatening drama without warning and need to stay alive long enough to find out the truth.
When Eric takes his old climbing buddy up the rock face of a mountain, he doesn't realize that it may be the last climb of his life! Filled with intense action, this is the best mystery/thriller I've read in years!
This is about a man who is mountain climbing with a friend and suddenly deputies shoot the friend. They try to kill Eric also but he gets away only to discover he is accused of the murder. Another exciting drama from the author. Very good mystery.
The story line is good. I cannot agree with the author that someone at three months pregnant can be climbing rocks , jumping and running so much and not have a miscarriage. Not possible. All in all that bad for a first time reading.
You talk about twists, turns and danger everywhere you look, this book is loaded. It’ll keep you on your toes trying to guess where the next shot will be fired from and who will pull the trigger. Didn’t want to put it down.
