Gladie is nervous about her upcoming vacation with hottie police chief Spencer Bolton. She’s never flown before, and she’s not looking forward to the experience. Her fear is heightened when a plane crashes into the house across the street. But there’s little time to think about it because their town is hosting a law enforcement conference, where Southern California’s finest are coming to discuss law and order. Everything is going to plan. Spencer is hailed as a great police chief, and Gladie is fixing up half of the town… until one of the guests — a famous police czar — drops dead at a cocktail party. Now everyone is a suspect, and Gladie is being prevented from investigating the death by the new police detective on the force… a hottie female cop who thinks Gladie is enemy #1 and Spencer is marriage material.

Elise Sax’s wickedly funny Matchmaker Mysteries series proves that the road to love comes with a few dead ends.

As I've mentioned before, this series is a better version of Stephanie Plum.
Our hero, Glady, eats too much junk-food, yet stays strangely in shape.

And, her shape isn't round, like mine gets if I eat like her.

She has a strange job that she kind of sucks at (but falls ass-backwards into having things work out).

Perfect job!! Nobody will even notice.

She has a boyfriend who is a cop, and a crappy cop at that.

I mean, come on, his girlfriend solves all of the murders in his town.

Plus, there is an awesome grandma.

Excuse me, I need to go meet this lady and ask her to be my grandma.

Her hi-jinx are hilarious and legendary, and the mysteries are always fun and not horribly obvious. But, unlike Stephanie, Glady and the characters in this world are growing and becoming more interesting and complex instead of stagnating and becoming one-dimensional. It's a really fun series.

Why do I feel like a salesman right now? I have no stake in this book. I'm not making any money here. Just.... do what you want.

I feel your pain, cat.

Gladie and Spencer, the Chief of Police, have taken their relationship to the next level. Of course, that doesn't stop Gladie from being a death magnet and now, apparently, a person who curses people and things. The house across the street, which supposedly is cursed, is something that Spencer has been looking to buy, apparently without telling Gladie. Then a plane crashes into the house. That's the first chapter, and, of course, things go wonky from there on. Gladie's matches are all over the place. Spencer is hosting a top cop conference and has a new cop who is, apparently the perfectly made woman who doesn't have the personality to match. The top cops start dropping like flies, Gladie's matches are either disappearing or, hexed themselves. What's a matchmaker/amateur sleuth to do???!!!

Hilarious

I laughed so loud I am surprised I did not wake my husband up. This is the funniest book I have read in a very long time. And it had a great murder mystery to boot.

Loved it!!!!!

Elise Sax has done it again!!! Manage to pack a punch of comedic genius in the romance/mystery department. I absolutely LOVE the Spencer/Gladie dynamic. Especially, when Spencer goes all loving alpha. I immediately fell in love with Peter, Spencer's older brother, and was thrilled to see that he is an addition to the cast of characters.
Having read all seven books in this series, I have to admit this is one of the best. I was impressed with the many names of Gladie's newest nemesis, officer Terri Williams. Rarely, was there a time I can truly laugh out loud at something as simple as the inner dialogue of disdain. I look forward to more matchmaker books..... Just keep them coming!
So, if you are looking for a humorous, steamy (in a clean way) mystery... Look no further! While people will say that the writing style is like Janet Evanovich.... It is actually better than the Stephanie Plum series by Ms. Evanovich. It is smarter, and not some lather, rinse and repeat formatted story. I highly recommend you to get this series and this book!

I absolutely love Pinky, Spencer, Grandma Zelda, and the gang!!!
Ms. Sax does an amazing job of keeping me laughing and on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what Pinky will get into next.
This whole series is a must read.

I swear that Gladie is a death magnet. Doesn't matter what she is doing or who she is with death will find her. This time it's lots of dead people and lots of suspects. She realizes how often she butts into police business and has solid plans to return to matchmaking, which has been quite successful for her. But if it wasn't for a certain new detective, of the female variety, her jealousy wouldn't have gotten the better of her. I will say that I have never read so many clever nicknames for a sexy bitchy policewoman, ever. Sax outdid herself with cleverness and I think I may have forgotten the detective's name as I was laughing at the names. If you've read this series you know there will be many times you catch yourself laughing out loud, this one does not disappoint. I highly recommend reading the books in order because the town, the relationships, and the history are all a continuing storyline with death and mystery as the main game changer. I am thrilled to have received an early copy and, although I love everything Sax writes, have written an unbiased review.

It's as if books 5-7 have been written about someone else....sort of.......Gladey has become more 'confident' about her sleuthing abilities and Spencer appears to have had a personality shake-up.
We get a sense of where Gladey gets her insecurities from in earlier books, but Spencer is an enigma regarding his man-whore status. We meet Spencer's brother Peter and there appears to be a relationship with the two brothers and Uncle Harry.
These are wickedly funny stories and I am continually having to cover my mouth as I am trying not to scream with laughter. The dialogue is extremely pithy and clever.
I think these books aren't to be taken too seriously and simply enjoyed for the raucous fun they are

Absolutely loved this book in the Matchmaker series! Glady is at it again, along with the usual (or unusual in many cases) group of Cannes residents - the zaniest bunch since Hooterville. Glady's matchmaking business is on a roll, as is her relationship with Spencer - but there's trouble in them thar hills when he hires a beautiful new cop and hosts a conference with the areas top cops. Bodies start falling, as they tend to do around Glady, goats and daffodils are involved along the way. If you love "I Love Lucy", adore slapstick comedy ... shoot, if you just want a good laugh ... read this series!

What can I say. It doesn’t get better. So much here didn’t make any sense. Like what was that thing in the bank? Why is Lucy surprised Gladie can pick a lock when she got her the lock pick set a few books before? Why does a detective touch s murder weapon then instead of calling it in (it being her case on top of it) go to the bank? And on and on it goes.
Sigh. And why is Spencer half of the time a jerk and the other horny, with very little sweet moments in between. And yet the relationship between them is the only thing that is keeping me reading. That and because I already have the entire series. So on to the next it is.

Scareplane by Elise Sax was another winning addition to the Matchmaker series. Gladie just can't seem to keep away from murder and dead bodies. Poor Spencer just doesn't have a chance in keeping her out of police business as Gladie attracts murder and mayhem in her life.

Laughter, mischief, romance, jealousy and a twisty murder that will keep your reading until the book is done. I'm already looking forward to the next one in this series.

The best laugh you'll ever have

This series is hands down the funniest one you will ever read. There isn't a moment or chapter that Gladie isn't getting into something. Add her sidekicks, Lucy and Bridget, along with the crazy town and the fun never stops.

"Pinky, we never speak of this again," Spencer said..."Never. Do you hear me Pinky? Never."

I LOVE this series and the 7th book does not disappoint! So much craziness ensues and each situation is more hilarious than the last.

Thank you Elise Sax - your books make me so HAPPY!

Planes falling out of the sky, curses, goats, and daffodils galore this book had me gasping, screaming "what?", and laughing my head off. I love the characters of Cannes and wish I could live there. I'd be like Lucy loving the town and wanting to see a murder get caught.

The drama in this book saves the series for me. The last two books were ridiculous with happenings to the Gladie. I feel this book brought back the intriguing storyline that made me purchase the entire series. I hope the next book stays the same course.

Fun and funny.
Question, why does Spencer act like a 5 year old around his brother Peter? It’s weird.
But the book was fun to read with all the crazies.
