Rate this book
Get ready for a trip to the fourth dimension in this thrilling H. G. Wells graphic novel adaptation!

At the turn of the nineteenth century, a group of friends listen to the adventures of a man who claims to be the world’s first time traveler. His story begins in the year 802,701. Earth is inhabited by the Eloi, descendants of men, who live in harmony, spending their time playing and eating fruit in an immense Garden of Eden. But beneath this paradise lies a terrible secret, for another species dwells in the depths of the earth: the Morlocks. These red-eyed, apish creatures thrive in darkness, and every night they rise to the surface to kidnap and feed on the Eloi.

H. G. Wells’ classic tale The Time Machine was one of the first stories to ever explore the notion of time travel. Now rediscover this incredible work of science fiction with a stunning, all-new graphic novel adaptation!

The artwork for this graphic novel version of The Time Machine is pretty good, but the story has been edited down far too much & feels very rushed. This was a missed opportunity to bring HG Wells classic science fiction story to life in a new format. Readable, but ultimately disappointing.

I have read many versions of the Time Machine and I have to say for such a short book (only 64 pages) this was able to capture the essence of the story really well. I am not sure how I feel about the way some of the characters (or is that creatures) were represented but then again I will be the first to admit that the imagery for me is still stuck with the famous film of the same name.

However as an introduction to the author and one of the most famous and possibly influential stories of the age there is no better place to start.

So yes I did enjoy it and it makes me even more curious about reading the other books in the series.

This graphic novel adaptation of "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells is mostly faithful to the original but has significant shortcomings that seriously limit its ability to properly retell the story. The book has strong artwork and establishes a mostly accurate view of London in 1895 and later reproduces Wells' vision of the world 800 centuries in the future. Additionally, the book's portrayal of the Eloi and the Morlocks is extremely close to the original and avoids the many pitfalls found in most later retellings. However, the book conflates and truncates events to the point that much of the narrative and story line are severely compromised. The effect is essentially that of reading a set of dry and charmless visual Cliff Notes.

third comic of this series I read, dunno about this one. It felt a bit rushed. It's still good but I liked the others better.

I love that the artsyle fits really well with the story, it doesn't look as computer coloured, which is great since it starts in the late 1800s in London. Before I knew it, I finished this, and I am very curious about the original book by H. G. Wells.

Well that was an absolute waste of 10 minutes!

Rushed and disjointed like a child had written the text.

The graphic work was awesome though, which is why this gets 1 star.

An abomination of a classic adaption.

Anyway bonitas ilustraciones

I remember it was pointed out that the machine reappeared at a different spot in the laboratory on account of the Morlocks moving it.

Very short graphic novel, but still quite good. However, it's definitely better if you know the novel by H G Wells. It is a nice visualization. Especially for things you can't imagine well, like the Morlocks and their technology. I really liked the drawing style. Very fitting to the story. Especially the Cthulu-like monsters at the end were really well represented.

Ecco, mi è venuto il titolo: The Steam Man of the Prairie and the Dark Rider Get Down.

On sale on Kindle the other day, and it is nice to reread Wells now and then.
I really liked the way this was formatted as an ebook. Moves from cell to cell, rather than page to page. And as you swipe, the next cell appears on the screen in different ways, from different angles. Still, at times the cells are so small it is hard to read the dialog.
Dobbs turns this into more of an adventure story. He has done other Classic Horror stories as well. Mathieu Moreau illustrates.
I am rereading the original novella now, and this Illustrated version rather lacks the late 19th C science and culture and philosophy that the original has. And Dobbs does not ID the listeners of the story (and their proifessions - which says a lot about them, and their comments, and even the story).
Still, well presented and illustrated. I'd read another by this team.

i loved seeing how this artist envisioned these characters but i totally disagree - why was the time traveler so pretty he’s supposed to be old and wise in my mind!! then they cut out the whole being shown the time machine then coming back the day after to hear the tale and i totally pictured the time machine like a lil bike for some reason lol. also the morlocks were wayyyy creepier than i imagined. the eloi also looked wayyyy too much like just short teens imo, i totally pictured them more like lil toddler creatures. also i think some of the things that were cut took away some critical details. weird that he finds some bones in the well thing and is just all the sudden like “CANNIBALISM!!” mf… there’s no one around this pile of bones and nothing to indicate a meal or anything. it seemed like the conclusions that the main character was coming to was out of now where in that way

Love this early science fiction book, the book shows what someone will do for love. A sad yet fascinating tale of the lengths of what a man will do in an attempt to try to change his destiny, yet no matter how hard he tries, or how great he applies his genius to changing the timeline of fate, his destiny cannot be changed.

As the book unflolds the author reveals how mankind totally destroys its possibility for a bright future because of greed. Even though the dark impact upon the world is shown and explained hope yet remains.

The hero brings his love to a new problem, to care for a group of beings who are more childlike than anything else. The hero begins his journey anew in a new time, a new family he adopts, and a new calling for his life.

Didn’t know this was an adaptation of an actual novel until I finished it. I was really confused in the beginning, but then it got good. I never read graphic novels, so I don’t know if this is a problem with only this one: The characters weren’t fleshed out at all, it was just so short. And the art style wasn’t my cup of tea.

It was ok. Was not very intricate or interesting that H.G. Wells saw in the future. Lacked a great deal of detail and was not quite as interesting as I liked. Was a large deal of social commentary rather than fictionally interesting if that makes sense. Ignored the power of computers and AI and was more steampunk future.

H.G. Well unexpected

I never expected to like any of H.G. Wells stories, they never really peaked my interest. Until I had to read the Island of Dr. Moreau for Brit Lit. Now after reading the invisible man and this, I can now say I’m a little hooked on his stories.
