The Story of Sister Maria Teresa Quevedo. "For Him alone I have lived." The Story of a Nun. Venerable Maria Teresa Quevedo 1930-1950. Maria Teresa Quevedo was a lively modern girl-a talented dancer, an expert swimmer, an outstanding tennis player, who devoted herself to generous works of sacrifice. Her life can be summed up by her own motto, "May all who look at me see you, O Mary." This book is the first full-length biography of Maria Teresa Quevedo that has been written in English. Teresita, as she was called by her friends and family, was a Spanish girl who was born in 1930 and who died in 1950 at the age of twenty. Throughout her life, Teresita was an inspiration and a delight to everyone around her as she calmly strove to exemplify Christian virtue in her everyday life. Teresita tried to do everything perfectly. As a girl living with her parents, she was an obedient child. With her friends, she was not only respected but popular. As a sodalist, she gave evidence as being a born leader for Mary. As a tennis player, she was an expert. As captain of her basketball team, she consistently led the group to victory. At any young people's gathering which she attended, she was the life of the party. When Teresita entered the Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of Charity, she did so because she desired to become a saint and to devote all her life to Jesus and Mary. But, in her own words, she wished to become a "little saint, for I cannot do big things." Teresita's cause for canonization is now under examination in the Sacred Congregation of Rites. "You will find the story of this popular beautiful girl an inspiration. It is a happy biography . . . Don't miss it." -Herbert O'H Walker, S.J.
It wouldn't be that dramatic to say that this book has changed my life. I thank my friend for giving me this book - that has to have been Divine Providence or something because I needed this.
All Catholics, especially women Catholics, need to learn about Teresa Quevedo - she is amazing and I can't get over how her life made me rethink mine!
I would absolutely give this book 5 stars, the only reason I knocked it down to a 4 is because this book hasn't been proofread. Because of that, there were so so many grammar, punctuation, and spelling mistakes. And that got me super confused while reading...
The story of Maria Teresa Quevedo is movingly beautiful. The biography is written within a few years of her death and so includes many insights from the people closest to her, so it reads as a narrative. It is well written and deals with both light and heavy topics. "Teresita" as she was called is an inspiration to people of all ages for her courageousness and pure love.
I highly recommend reading this book. The story of María Teresa Quevedo is one of beauty. The amount of love and devotion she has to Our Lady is incredible. I’m times of suffering her love for Our Lady intensified. She welcomed and endured suffering with a smile and open arms if it was God’s will.
She teaches us to accept a heavy cross with love and courage. I believe she serves as a source of encouragement to all who are wanting to fulfill God’s will perfectly in their life.
This book has changed my perspective on how I should view and handle suffering. It’s important to remember that the Lord permits such torments in order to provide us with opportunities to gain merit for Heaven.
“Holiness is not a stumbling block in the normal life of a modern girl.”
This book - through the intercession of its patroness - has enhanced my Marian devotion. Teresita is not only a beautiful example of how to live, she shows us how to die. Her simple, childlike love for the Divine is inspiring. I have made a friend in Heaven. Venerable Maria Teresa, pray for us!!
This was a very beautiful book, inside and out. The exterior cover was gorgeous in the hardback edition. The story itself was very sweet, simple, and yet inspiring and uplifting. I liked that there were practical things Sister Maria Teresa did, because those are things that are actionable in our own lives. I also liked the way it showed her diary entries: it shed light on her inner thoughts, yet also shrouded some in mystery when she didn't write them down.
Overall, I loved the book! It was nice to read a little bit of it every day.
As others have said, this book changed my life. I didn't think it had at first, but I find myself doing things I never could have done otherwise, things I thought about doing in an "it would be nice...I should..." way. Now I just do them.
