Trouble is, Lauren’s in love with her best friend and has been for eleven hopeless years. Years in which she’s secretly imagined the fairytale of possibilities if she had the courage to speak… which she hasn’t. So she doesn’t. And she won’t.

I am just going to stop trying to read Kiki Archer books. I don't know why but they just don't resonate with me and I usually don't like one or both MCs.
This is a hilarious book, which is mostly dialogue. It is a modern fairytale where one of the main characters gets her dream girl. It is also a book where two people have had a love story all their lives without realizing it. Fun and cute love story!
I finally found another book to add to my favorites!
I freaking loved this! Where do I even start? This book had me laughing so hard at some points. The situations the characters, especially Lauren, sometimes found themselves in were absolutely insane and so hilarious. Whenever I normally think of authors that write what could be called rom-com Robin Alexander always came to mind as a favorite but right now Kiki Archer has stolen the no. 1 spot. Which is well deserved I think considering how many times her other books (One Foot Onto the Ice and When You Know) have made me laugh. I'm pretty sure it's because of the British humor since that's what I grew up with but who really cares, it was hysterical.
As for the romance, get ready to be swept off your feet. This book is packed with sweet moments, moments full of longing for someone and the desperation to hide ones true feelings from the other. That being said when they do finally get together it's such a sweet, cheesy and cute moment that Rachel recreated, it's totally swoon worthy.
The main characters themselves were fantastic although I did start to get frustrated with Lauren at one point when I just wished she would get her act together. As for the secondary characters, I really liked Trudy although sometimes I found she took things a little too far. Trevor on the other hand is such a typical male caricature, similar to Marcus in One Foot Onto the Ice.
This book is amazing it's sweet, cute, angsty, sexy and so funny. This gets a full 5* and more since it's going on my favorites list.
Was ok. Some of the dialog sequences get so long you loose track of who's saying what. The comedy felt forced much of the time. And the ending gave me whiplash. I'm really having a meh run of books lately. Grumble.
Lauren, a wedding planner who makes fairytales a possibility, has been in love with her best friend for eleven years but never been able to tell her how she feels and live out her own fairytale. When Lauren discovers that her friend might just be open to the possibility of dating women and there is a chance she might share mutual feelings for Lauren past their friendship, she wonders if perhaps she might even be a possibility.
This was SO funny! I laughed pretty much the whole way through because each and every chapter was packed with comedy gold moments. From the dialogue and conversations, to Lauren’s antics and ability to complicate situations by just being herself, to the surrounding cast of vibrant characters. It literally had everything you’d expect from one of those rom-coms that just keeps on giving. What works so well is the dynamic between Lauren and those she interacts with. They either get her and they bounce off of one another to create perfection, or they clash and then the rivalry just makes her crazy, strange, and completely and utterly brilliant all on her own.
It had like a knock on effect. One thing Lauren did would spark the next situation, from the utterly ridiculous to the misfortunate. Either way, Lauren is just one of those characters you laugh with, and sometimes at, because you just can’t help it. There were so many moments where I laughed at Lauren and felt terrible for her, but you just know that internally she is finding the humour in pretty much everything to, it is just who she is.
A brilliantly funny read, which I highly recommend and will undoubtedly read again and again. If you need a simple, funny, romance to cheer you up, this will certainly do the trick.
By far my favorite of Archer. The two main characters were great althougg at times (more often than not) I really wanted to grab Lauren and shake some sense into her. The dialogue was great and actually had me laughing. Read it...so worth it.
This might be the funniest romance novel I've read this year. Kiki Archer has created not only a hilarious read but one that makes you fall in love with the characters, the story and most of all the beautiful 'best friend to lovers' romance.
Firstly the humour... if you're a subscriber of my reviews you'll know I absolutely adore British Rom-Com books. And once again Kiki Archer has balanced the humour and the romance incredibly well and with poise.
The characters portrayed beautifully what best friends falling in love would feel like and you are rooting for them from the very beginning. The secondary characters, especially Trudy (every time she took centre stage I couldn't stop laughing), made the book even more enjoyable... and here's a exclusive... Kiki is hoping to write a spin off featuring the beloved Trudy! I can't tell you how happy that makes me!
This novel has fallen into my favourites shelf and definitely my new favourite Kiki Archer novel! I can't wait to see what's coming next.
This novel walks the tightrope of secretly frustrated friends wanting to be more but fearful of destroying their best friend status. KA has managed to navigate this, just pulling it back before the daftness gets too much. Amusing with the author's style and sense of humour shining through.
A Fairytale of Possibilities is in a league of it's own. By far the most realistic and relatable novel written by Kiki Archer to date. As soon as I started the book I had to see it through and finished it in one session. The way Archer describes her characters and their varied traits sucks the reader in further, the true likeness to real life giving the story life itself making it effortless for the reader to feel like a part of the story themselves. In true Kiki fashion, A Fairytale is full of moments to make you giggle, that weird nose snort thing you do when trying to suppress a laugh, full blown belly aching laughter and even choking on my part. The romance had my eyes brimming, the frustration of doubt had me actually telling the characters off and the seductively written build up throughout had me biting my lip. This book gets a 5 star simply because it's worth 10 but I can't award that.
I'm not rating, but I will review. I found this book charming and funny most of the way through. The characters were over the top, but not in a particularly bad way.
I'm not going to rate this because I just simply don't know how. The book was fine, but there was just something that still irks me: Behavioral consistency and outside-view (especially by a friend).
Kiki Archer is by far my favorite author .... this book is no exception!!! I loved it - she has a way of building characters that are just loveable with their little quirks. I was laughing so hard at some of the scenes that I Hase to wipe my eyes to keep reading. I also really liked how the whole Parker situation was handled ... in a lot of books with children it becomes this big problem but here Parker was just part of the story and he wasn’t a problem for their relationship and it wasn’t awkward- just how it should be. Every time I read one of her books I fell like a crazy person with laughing out loud and loudly commenting on it.
WhyI bought this book, I keep wondering ... I read until the page 26 and all the time I thought: wtf, what is it? The narrative is totally bland, the dialogues seem to be between teenagers and the thoughts of the main character seems to have come out of the head of a 13 year old girl ... Gosh, this was a waste of money. Books in my country are very expensive and books imported even more. I feel wronged, my intellect hurts. Gosh ...0 stars
I have read several books by Archer (it doesn't appear I marked them on Goodreads though) and typically find her books enjoyable. I purchased this one on kindle when it first came out, and then let it sit there waiting to be read. Finally I give in and it was an okay read but not a favorite Archer book. I really enjoyed the characters and had a couple of laugh out loud moments. I just think it was a bit overkill. It was just too much of a good thing. Their dialogue at first was funny and I enjoyed it but by the end of the book I was kind of over it. I also struggled with a few things that occurred in the book. The disagreement near the end may have been a deal breaker for me. I just didn't like how that entire situation went down in the book. These are of course personal preferences, and I am still a huge fan of Archer's books. I purchased another book and it too is waiting to be read on my kindle. This one for me was just 3 stars though.
This was a very sweet story. I found myself laughing out loud to include at the salon while waiting for my highlights to cook. Some drama and angst mixed with laughs, love, and forever friendship.
Lauren is the archetypal lesbian in love with her BFF. The best friend a girl could have, always there, always solid, never meeting her one true love, so never going off in her own direction, but secretly in agony of loving a straight girl. She spends her time being everything she can be to Rachel, supportive, caring, witty and fun, while on the inside she longs for more.
Rachel has never admitted to being a little bi-curious, or wondering why Lauren never made a play for her; she is certainly a bit of a player. But as she emerges from the grief of her husband’s death Lauren’s place in her life and her heart is even more critical. And so begins a comedy of errors, of unspoken truths hidden behind flirty but guarded innuendo as both women have things to say but no way of saying them and it is, of course, the straight woman who must do the running.
Witty, sharp and clever this is definitely a laugh out loud romcom and the perfect entertainment for a night in front of the fire. The dialogue between Lauren and Rachel is first class and Trudy, Lauren’s madcap assistant, is absolutely brilliant. Archer certainly has the eye for a sit-com, and puts her characters into places where you can see the Monty Python moment coming from a mile away but it never fails to entertain.
It is literally full of laughs, both out loud at the comedic situations and internal as we recognise and empathise with the women trying to communicate or hide their secrets. There is plenty of romcom angst and drama, but there is also a serious undertone and darker shades which takes it from being a comedy into something more than a fairytale. Both women have things to learn, and the character development via horse whispering is absolutely hysterical.
Well written, cleverly put together and totally entertaining, this is an excellent way to drive out the winter blues. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm cruising through Amazon looking for funny. Looking for easy. Looking for a HEA. When I stumbled upon this recently released gem. If you are in the mood for rom-com where both characters are adorably quirky, I'd recommend this read.
It is sweet and any storyline tension are soon made to easy sailing. The dialogue is wonderfully snappy and funny from all the main and supporting characters. It's like watching a perfect comedy of errors to have one you think you can't have be the one for you. Lauren and Rachel were completely relatable in their story. It's difficult to move from best friends to lovers. They trip a bit getting there, but in the end the story leaves you with a warm HEA.
A romantic, dialogue-driven lovestory, with lots of for Archer typical slapstick-scenes and hilarious characters. Unusual for lesbian rom-coms, here it takes a while until the main characters actually come together. That I found quite refreshing.
I understand why people love Archer's books. Her characters are flawed yet goodhearted with idiosyncrasies that make them come alive. The dialogue is witty, sharp, and intelligent, which I frequently find lacking in many of the f/f books that I read. That having been said, I am never completely won over by Archer's books.
My main issue with "A Fairy tale of Possibilities" was Lauren. She was a hopeless romantic, loyal to Rachel and Parker, and sweet. I also found her, however, to be immature. She irritated me throughout the whole novel. How she dealt with Jenny and Trudy during the double date, how she dealt with Trevor, and how she dealt with the farm incident was adolescent-like and not in line with a fully grown 29 year old. These scenes were meant to be comedic, and I am sure that most readers will find them hilarious, but I just wanted to smack some sense into Lauren. My inability to love Lauren, the protagonist, negatively impacted my experience with the book.
All in all, the book is full of Archer's trademark snark and wit. If you love her humor, I strongly suggest the book. You'll love it!
I really enjoy all of Kiki Archer's novels and this one did not disappoint. Lauren, who has been in love with her best friend Rachel for 11 years has managed to keep it hidden all that time as she fantasises about them constantly it made me eager see what happened next especially when I thought I knew but guessed wrong so many times. I love the way both characters seemed to complement each other so perfectly especially with Lauren's sense of humour and the constant banter between the two. It had me laughing out loud so many times and I simply couldn't put it down.
Wow I just wanted to live in this book! Found myself up at 1am just to continue reading it, oh wow! Still have a smile plastered across my face. Funny, on time, hot, Rachel and Lauren-Kiki knocked it out of the park in this one.
Kiki Archer wins the ‘universal appeal’ award (again) with her latest book, A Fairy Tale of Possibilities.
In her ability to give all women, lesbian or not, a fictional set of circumstances, conflicts and confusions that we can ALL relate to, Kiki Archer is like Jane Austen for Moderns. A Fairytale of Possibilities is the sweetest, most insightful and hottest laugh-out-loud romcom book of the year.
The great classic thing about an Archer book is you never know if you’re gonna want a petit four or a petit mort after you finish reading. Her books are that sweet and that sexy. Kiki Archer’s comedic timing has always been wonderful, but she exceeded her highest score with this one. The hilarity is organic. Archer’s got it wrapped up in a tight, taut plotline, some excellent character development and sight gags and dialog to bring it all alive.
The secondary characters, as well as Lauren’s work side-kick Trudy, who is Lauren’s own ‘mini me but relentlessly so’, add to the full measure of a fully fleshed out storyline.
I loved how the two main characters could move from mad frivolity to grand concepts in between commas! A story, basically, of how one lesbian, in love with her straight best friend for 11 years, owns the lesbian rico suave award with corny one-liners, double entendres and ‘foo paux’ all night long. The women feed off one another, comically at first, and then and then, they take us to new versions of old ideas while infusing the air with endearing, old-timey values in a modern-day love. Lauren is 100% lesbian, and Rachel is Straight. And has a child. And the in-laws of her deceased husband to deal with.
But falling in love with a “Straight” woman is its own special subculture of experiences, for both people, and it’s refreshing to see the idiocy, the intelligence and the insight coming from both people. Neither woman can get out of her own way, except when she runs headlong into the other one’s calamitous, touching, hilarious, sensitive persona. And yet, it’s not the one you might think who makes the first definitive move. And yet, yes it is! Archer’s so on point with each character’s inner and outer perspectives.
But who are they really? That’s what makes this book so lovely. The two women are remarkably alike in their dissimilarities, and unnervingly dissimilar in how they reveal their mutual admiration society. It almost shouldn’t work. Insecurity, jealousy and cumbersome misunderstandings are matched by moments of such exquisite tenderness and touching exchange that you want them to end up together because their imperfections are a perfect match. Even under stress…maybe especially under stress.
Not going to do a spoiler, nope, but let me simply say that if you like your passion strong, your sex rompy, and your couple capable of both orgasmic intensity and rompy pompy pratfalls of ungodly and hysterically bad timing, get yourself this Fairytale of Possibilities. Highly Recommend for a good time!
Lauren is a lesbian wedding planner who is in love with her best friend of more than a decade Rachel. Rachel is now a single mum who, apparently, has been in love with Lauren too all this time but was reticent to say it out loud or even admit it. Well, more than that, she thought Lauren didn’t feel the same way so why bothering to expose your feelings. Lauren is the adventurous, competitive, funny, while Rachel is more down to Earth, maybe caused by her status as a mother. They both complement each other, they click. From a tense moment they can turn it into a hillarious one. It is a light hearted and very funny romance with memorable moments, in the safari park, in the farm, in the living room, … Personally, one of my favourite moments is when Lauren has a “conversation” with Wilbur. So emotional, so endearing. And even though these main characters are brilliant, let’s not forget Trudy, oh Trudy, Jennie, Trevor and all the other secondary ones, including Wilbur. Kiki Archer has the ability to draw you into the story in a blink of an eye and to keep you there until the end. The worst part? You don’t want the story to end. Let’s just face it, Kiki is a brilliant story teller.
I found myself laughing out loud many times while reading this novel. I enjoyed the characters and the hilarious situations they got themselves into while failing to communicate directly about their feelings. Tertiary characters were enjoyable as well, such as several of the couples and in laws Lauren has to deal with as wedding planner. I disliked the hurtful destructiveness by a family member toward the end, and the way the main characters reacted to that incident and to each other afterward. It left a sour taste, and the quick happy ending which followed lacked credibility after that depth of pain inflicted. I enjoyed A Fairytale of Possibilities until nearly the end. I'm ambivalent about recommending this novel. If you go into it realizing it's not all laughter and roses as it seems and if you're are prepared for the darkness within, you may enjoy it.
This book is frustratingly good. The characters, mainly Lauren, were annoying in not just speaking her mind when things were finally happening in the right direction for her after 11 years of pining away for her bff. Ugh I almost stopped reading the book because the characters were starting to date other people and it’s was obvious they were screwing up their lives, but I pressed on and even after another huge bump it became a nice ending that made me happy. Honestly, the author had me just yearning for them to just be together quicker than what was written, when in real life that wouldn't happen so why should I yell and scream at maddening fictional characters and their choices? I just don’t think my nerves could take the angst of the characters failures of just not speaking their minds of what was truly in their hearts or maybe I’d have enjoyed the book more.
I really enjoyed this book. The build up between the characters was intense and enjoyable. Will definitely read this one again, as I do with all of your books. Would love to see where this couple goes... maybe they can be in a support role to a story about Jenny and Trudy. Would be great if Parker were given the chance to be a big brother at some point in time. Thank you for the introduction to these characters. There were times I thought things were going to go completely in a different direction, but luckily they ended up at the same destination in the end - in each other's hearts, minds and in the physical space between them. - KL
As a fan of Kiki Archer's work I jumped at the chance to read this book when I spotted it. I felt it was slightly different to her other books, in this book a great deal of humour had been weaved throughout the story - the book was hilarious and I roared laughing on more than one occasion. I liked the characters and the tale they told, Kiki Archer has a knack of writing themes other authors tend to hide away from and I actually like that. My only complaint about this book, was I felt the story in the first chapter especially was a little slow to get going, I suggest if you find this, keep going, you won't be disappointed. A thoroughly enjoyable book I would happily recommend.
