Going home means one last chance at the hero of her dreams—don't miss this fan-favorite novella, previously titled Back to Buckhorn in 2014, from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster.

For odd-girl-out Zoey Hodge, the best thing about Buckhorn, Kentucky, was leaving it behind. And now she's back—at least until she can nurse her mother back to health and hightail it out of there anew. But there's one person she doesn't mind seeing again. Garrett Hudson was one of the few who was always kind to her. Now he's a firefighter—still one of the good guys, but with a sexy alpha charm that's tempting her inner bad girl.

In school, Zoey was smart, witty and unafraid to be herself. Garrett fell hard back then, and he's falling even faster now. As far as he's concerned, there are all kinds of reasons Zoey should stick around. Her pet grooming business. Her mom. And the chance for him to prove that he can be her real-life hero in every way that matters…

This was a quick read that took me back to Buckhorn to catch up with some hot men! This book was about Garrett Hudson who is the son of Morgan from when Lori Foster first put out this series. It was actually cool to see what has become of the Handsome Hudson brothers children! The only disappointing part was not getting to have the whole family get together in this book. I find that a lot of these stories that do a story about the children often have a huge get together where we catch a glimpse into our favorite family's lives. Even though it didn't happen, I did enjoy this quick read. It had all of the usual characteristics of a Lori Foster read.. Mainly, the hot sex! LOL

If you are looking for a light easy read, with some romance, little angst and some steamy sex..then for sure check this book out. I do believe that it would be enjoyed more, if the reader has followed the Buckhorn books from the beginning; just because it has some history there and some old faces. A nice enjoyable read, that reminds me to check out some of Lori Foster's new books that have come out. I have always enjoyed here stories, and that hasn't seem to change!

Received an ARC for review

Lori Foster is one of my fav authors. I LOVED the first generation of Howard boys and was excited to see there's a whole new set of them. That being said, I know this is a novella, but it still felt really rushed. Yes, there was drama and a little angst and some nasty people and a hot Howard boy, but it was over way too quick.

Back to Buckhorn is a novella that features the offspring of the men in the "Buckhorn Brothers" series. I loved that series, so it's a treat to see their kids fall in love. In Back to Buckhorn, Zoey has returned home to take care of her mother. Her secret crush, Garret Hudson is unattached and drawn to Zoey. Zoey and Garret's story was really sweet. It's a friends to lovers story, which is always one of my favorites. It wouldn't be a Buckhorn story with out the family interfering. It was really fun to watch them all work to get these two together.

Reviewed for Romancing the Readers Blog: http://romancingthereaders.blogspot.c...

It seems like forever that I've been reading Lori Foster. Unfortunately in the last few years I've fell behind. That's why I was so glad to do her for our Catching Up on the Author post. Like I said, I'm way behind on her so I couldn't at first figure out which series I wanted to catch up on.

As I looked through my kindle, (I was to lazy to get up and look on my shelves) I noticed that I haven't read a Buckhorn story in a while so...I'm guessing you can figure out the rest of that sentence.

Garrett is the son of one of my favorite Buckhorn brothers, Morgan. Loved him! It kinda felt a little weird loving his son too but I got over it! 😉 Garrett just like his father is tough but only on the outside.

Right away he starts to fall for Zoey, of course they knew and liked each other when they were younger so it was easier to not feel like the love and romance was rushed. I would have to say that Zoey is one of my favorite female characters.

The woman cracked me up!

She did her best to always stay strong, even when it wasn't easy. She was just so sweet and caring. These two made for good romance.

I'm so glad to start getting caught up on this series and plan to read the other two stories soon. If you haven't yet tried this series you don't know what you are missing.

Hotness Rating 3 out of 5

**this book was provided to me by NetGalley.com in exchange for an unbiased and honest review**

I am a huge fan of Lori Foster's, but new to the Buckhorn Brothers. Needless to say starting at book #7 of this series made me a bit anxious. Have no fear this book completely held it's own as a standalone. I am officially a Buckhorn Brothers fan! Back to Buckhorn is a novella that packs a huge punch in less than 100 pages. You are never left wanting.

Zoey Hodge was pretty much run out of town after her hotheaded boyfriend died in a car accident just minutes after she broke up with him. Since she was from the "wrong side of the tracks" and he was the football superstar they held her responsible for his actions. Seeing no other choice she left Buckhorn, Kentucky and has never come back. Circumstances have changed and she needs to come home to take care of her mom. Coming home is bittersweet. She's missed it so much, but it seems that a lot of the townspeople have very long memories and hold a grudge. Lucky she's always had allies in her friend Amber and her family. One family member in particular has always stood out in Zoey's eyes - Amber's brother Garrett. She had a huge crush in high school and now that she's face to face with him again it seems that crush hasn't dimmed even a little.

Garrett is a hot firefighter who is now playing chauffeur for his sister. Her best friend is coming back to town and she needs someone to pick her up. Garrett remembers Zoey as the free spirit from his high school days that fed more than a few fantasies. When she steps off the plane she's a mess and he struggles to figure out the woman she has become. It doesn't take long for the real Zoey to shine through and Garrett is sunk. She captivates him with her kindness and strength. Not to mention the sexual chemistry that sizzles between them.

I loved Garrett and Zoey. Zoey handled the disdain of so many with kindness and grace. She never got angry or even for the way she was treated. I loved that Garrett recognized these traits in Zoey and supported her through it all. The romance was sweet and easy with very little unnecessary drama. This is just a lovely story that leaves you feeling good.

Foster is the master at making your pulse race while having you laugh out loud at her characters’ antics. This well-crafted novella kept me captivated throughout. Foster easily and seamlessly develops the world that the characters find themselves in, drawing her readers into this gorgeous lakeside town that you can’t help but picture. I thoroughly appreciate how Foster develops her setting (and characters) so seamlessly without overtly doing so. You get a clear picture of everything without ever leaving the excitement of the story.

Although bound in a short page count, the main characters in this novella are quite well developed. You get to know them in the here and now, as well as learning about their pasts. I appreciated the fact that the male lead was a charming, witty, all around nice guy who was also quite the alpha male without being domineering. He was the perfect man, without seeming overly perfect. He was oh-so-real. By paring him with a woman who was a little quirky, but yet still able to stand her own and stand up for herself Foster creates characters that you can’t help but get into.

Overall this is a fast paced, quick, enjoyable read that will keep you captivated to the last sentence. I’d definitely recommend it to Foster’s fans, and those who are looking to delve into her work because as brilliantly as this fits into the Buckhorn series, it’s also a brilliant standalone.

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Ok, one topic I do want to bring up is how when she first got there he was going to turn down her offer on dinner just because she didn’t look her best or pretty. Like, she was just thrown up on and even then you should give people a chance. I wasn’t very impressed with this book or this series at all. Lori Foster is an amazing author especially with the SBC series and love undercover series.

4.0 RATING- This was a cute novella! I actually liked this Buckhorn Brother's story more than I have earlier books in the series. The hero was a yummy firefighter but the heroine was my favorite, slightly goofy and quirky. Overall, a short sweet read with some steam.

I really enjoyed the first 4 stories in the series about the Buckhorn brothers; but the subsequent stories about the next generation had fallen flat for me until Garrett's story. Garrett and Zoey actually talked & bonded so I was able to buy into their romance. Good couple.

I like stories about people coming back home, especially when they left suddenly or have something in their past that really changed things for them. I think it's the whole idea of overcoming the obstacles of your past and making things right with the people left behind, so I was pretty excited about this book.

Zoey comes home to take care of her ailing mother, and boy did she make a memorable entrance. Her friend was suppose to pick her up from the airport, and instead, her friends hot brother Garrett shows up instead, and she's covered in baby vomit from a highly undesirable airplane ride. But Zoey is remarkably compassionate and good natured, and you get that feeling from her right from the beginning, so its easy to see why Garrett would be so attracted to her. As a character, I really enjoyed Zoey, she was genuinely a good person, but she didn't come off as a push over or too sugary sweet, she was just the right amount of authentic. I liked that she showed understanding to the people from her past that she had a bad history with, that she never really overreacted to things. She's the kind of person anyone would want to be friends with. Also I love that she has a soft spot for animals (her getting her dog Ticket sounds like just the kind of thing/situation that would happen to me).

As for Garrett, I liked him too. I liked that he was good guy, and ready to lend a hand to his friends/family. He definitely comes off a a good looking man (and what girl doesn't like the image of a hot firefighter). I liked the dynamic that he had with Zoey, he wasn't too pushy, but rather offered his help freely and wanted to hear what Zoey thought, I hate when men get a little pushy, so Garrett was my kind of guy for sure.

The two of them definitely had chemistry together, and they work so hard and not being a couple that it's slightly hilarious. Of course it was amusing to see how little Garrett's family bought into that, his family is without a doubt a great cast of secondary characters. I liked his dad's impromptu visit to Zoey's only to find Garrett there too.

The book was a tad bit short for my normal taste, but still really enjoyable. I think my biggest problem was the ending felt a little too rushed for me. There is a confrontation at the end with Zoey and someone from her past, that gets resolved over like the course of two pages, which felt a little bit unnatural. But other than that I really didn't have any complaints about the book, it was really a fun read. Easily recommend to other.

I’ve been a huge Lori Foster fan since I first discovered her books when I was still in college (which was a long time ago because I am old). And I’ve said many times that Lori Foster can totally rock the romance novellas. So I was super excited to see Back to Buckhorn, a novella continuing her Buckhorn series (LOVE) at the end of my eARC, Tough Love. While I did like Back to Buckhorn, it isn’t my favorite Lori Foster novella out there.

When Zoey returns to her hometown of Buckhorn, Kentucky, she first runs into Garrett, a guy she had a crush on back in her high school days. Unfortunately, Zoey wasn’t at her best, due to a vomiting baby on the airplane. It was pretty fun to see Garrett’s reaction to Zoey who was looking completely bedraggled, and who smelled like baby vomit. But when Garrett sees Zoey all cleaned up, he is completely attracted to her.

While I was totally shipping Zoey and Garrett, at times the story just felt a little . . . dry, you could say. I didn’t have any strong emotions. When I finished Back to Buckhorn, almost all the details left my brain because I didn’t have any strong feelings about the novella.

If you are a fan of the Buckhorn series, then definitely look into this because it’s fun to revisit some of your favorite characters. But otherwise, I would try Lori Foster’s other novellas. While I enjoyed Back to Buckhorn, it isn't a book that I will ever want to re-read. Generally Lori Foster totally kicks novella butt, but this one isn't quite as spot on as normal. This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook

Back to Buckhorn is the story of a wayward ex-Buckhorn resident who makes her way home. In this case, it is Zoey, a woman who had the misfortune of being involved with a young man who died in a tragic car accident, and who was blamed by that man's family for his death. She left town when the scandal threatened to overwhelm her, but it's been seven years, and she's coming back to help her ailing mother, hoping that what happened in the past will stay in the past. It's just her luck that Garrett is at the airport to pick her up - her one time crush, seeing her now after a harrowing flight involving a very sick toddler who cast up his accounts, all over her! Just the kind of impression she'd hoped would never happen, and certainly not in front of Garrett! But Garrett has always had a thing for Zoey and she cleans up good, as evidenced by his immediate impression (post shower) that she's just the woman for him. This story combines dealing with the past tragedy that exiled Zoey in the first place with the sweet and sexy romance between Garrett and Zoey. I loved seeing all the original Buckhorn story characters (Morgan is Garrett's father so we get some fun scenes with him) and it's made me want to go back and reread all those first stories that drew me to Lori Foster's writing. 4 sweet and sexy stars.

This series is the one that made me fall in love with author Lori Foster's writing. I love her Buckhorn boys! Be forewarned though that you will want to start at the beginning of this series. Not only will starting at the beginning give you all the back story, but you will understand how each person is connected in this story. Also, this is novella length --Amazon has it listed at 90 pages-- so don't expect a huge read either.

As a person who doesn't usually enjoy quick novellas, I found that Back to Buckhorn was actually pretty good lengthwise. It flowed better than other novellas and didn't feel rushed to me. I loved thecharacter of Garrett and I even came to like Zoey by the end of the story. While the plot line was pretty good, I did have some issues with it -namely that quick ending, it wasn't enough to turn me off from reading more in this series.

Again, if you haven't had the pleasure of reading any books in this series, I urge you to please start with one of the earlier books, if not at the beginning. It can be read as stand alone, but you might find yourself a little confused at some of the character references.

Vintage Foster!
While shorter and not a full length novel this book was so much fun!
What a great time revisiting Buckhorn and the very special family we all came to know and love there. This book introduces us to Garrett Hudson. Son of the infamous Morgan Hudson. Morgan does make a couple of appearances but there is no doubt that this is Garrett's book and not his father's.
It is six chapters of heart warming fun wrapped up in all the yummy male goodness you have come to expect from a Foster book.
Garrett is a local fireman who always had a secret crush on Zoey Hodge.
Zoey hightailed it out of town after a tragic accident for which she unfairly bore the blame. She is now a dog groomer who has returned to open a business and take care of her mother.
The story is short, sweet and sassy and makes for a perfect length read if you don't have a lot of time to invest in a longer book.
All this aside, honestly, if you put Buckhorn and Foster on the cover it pretty much ought to sell itself!
Highly recommended.

Back to Buckhorn is the seventh book in the Buckhorn Brothers series by Lori Foster. Zoey Hodges has come home to Buckhorn to care for her mother but she fears that there are still hard feelings due to her role in her ex-boyfriend's death. Her friend, Amber, sends her brother, Garrett Hudson, to the airport to pick her up. Zoey had a crush on Garrett back in high school.

It's really a novella/short story instead of a novel so there isn't a lot of fleshing out of the characters. But Ms. Foster still managed to pull a good and decent read out. I think anyone who read the original books in the series would be excited to revisit and meet the "kids".

This was a sweet short story of Garrett and Zoey. Zoey returns back to her home town 7 years after being run out of town after her boyfriend died in a car accident after she broke up with him. She finally comes back to look after her sick mum and straight away the attraction between Garrett and Zoey is smoldering. They both tried acting like this wasnt a big deal and that it was just a casual thing but underneath they both knew it was going to be more than that. Sweet Zoey deserved to be with someone like Garrett.

I enjoy these little novellas that take us back to Buckhorn to see the next generation all grown up. Of course I thought it was too short. Garrett was such the perfect guy. I'm not sure I've liked a male hero as much. Zoey was really likable too. She ended up speaking her mind a lot, and that made things much easier for Garrett. I loved their story and I can't wait to get more from this series.

WHY did I wait so long to read Back to Buckhorn ? Like Zoey, I loved being back in Buckhorn. Lori Foster writes great small town romances. I enjoyed reading about the brothers in the earlier books, that reading about their kids have grown up in these novellas is a pure joy.

Pov: male & female

Main characters: Garrett & Zoey

Minor characters: Amber (his sister), Gus (her ex), Carrie (his ex, Gus's sister), Connor (Gus and Carrie's younger brother)

My thoughts:

This was a short and fast moving story, but it didn't feel fast. Time passed quickly, but it felt like all the pieces were filled in. I would have liked to see this one expanded into a full length novel.

I know I jumped into a series in the middle, but I didn't feel confused about all the other characters and their relationships. I was actually intrigued to know more about everyone else.

This was a much better novella than the Hard Knocks novella. It seemed thought out and planned.

Synopsis:

Zoey was poor and kind of odd in a small town. She was raised by her free spirit mother after her dad passed away when she was young. In high school she started dating Gus, but she always had a crush on Garrett. She was best friends with Amber.

His was a star on the football team but he had a temper problem. One night they got into a fight and she decided enough was enough after he broke things in her house. She broke up with him and kicked him out. He ended up getting into a car accident and died.

Gus's family blamed her and turned the town against her. She was lonely and scared and decided to leave when she graduated to get a fresh start. She kept in touch with Amber.

Garrett was raised in a loving home with his nosy sister Amber. He met Zoey and always had a crush on her. He started dating Carrie.

After the accident and Zoey left his relationship with Carrie fell apart. He didn't like how Carrie and her family treated Zoey, and he knew Gus had a temper.

Garrett became a firefighter in town. Zoey became a dog groomer.

7 years later her mom falls off a horse and needs help. Zoey decides to move back and Amber helps her find an old house to restore and turn into a home/grooming business.

She flies home and on the plane plays with a baby. The baby gets sick and pukes all over her. The mother lets her borrow the fathers shirt.

Amber was supposed to pick her up but she had a plumbing problem at her store so she sent Garrett. Zoey is embarrassed that he's there and she looks so awful.

Garrett picks her up and she admits she had a crush on him. She's nervous and embarrassed and he thinks it's cute. She asks if she could use his shower, since her house isn't set up yet and her uncle doesn't like her. (Her uncle was Gus's football coach. Her mom is living with him, but he's upset at her for leaving in the first place). Garrett feels bad thinking her uncle took Gus's and the towns side.

She sees his house and he tells her he did the restoration. She mentions wanting the same for her house and asks if he'd give her tips. She offers to buy him dinner for helping her. He wants to say no, but when he sees her all cleaned up he says yes.

She bumps into him all over town and likes him more and more. He likes her more and more too. Amber tells him not to play with Zoey's heart. That he can't sleep with her then leave her. That Zoey would be hurt.

On the day of their dinner he bumps into her at the market. He notices Carrie and tries to keep them apart.

Carrie confronts her and asks how dare she move back. He's worried about Zoey but she's fine. She understands how angry and sad Carrie feels. He admires her compassion.

At dinner he tries to keep distance between them but the attraction is too strong. He tells her he's attracted to her and she admits she is too. He tells her he doesn't want to hurt her. She tells him she isn't looking for anything serious. That he's a welcome distraction.

They have sex and he suggests they be friends with benefits. She loves the idea.

They spend all their free time together and fall in love, but each thinks the other isn't feeling that way.

Amber comes by and tells him not to get attached. That once Zoey's mom gets home and her business opens she won't have time for him anymore. That bothers him and he decides he wants to be with Zoey exclusively.

That night he asks her to the fireman's festival as his date. She's worried the town will know they're involved and be mean to him. He tells her he doesn't care. That he wants to be exclusive. She's thrilled and says yes.

One night her dog wakes them up and they see her old shed is on fire. Garrett rushes out and catches Connor trying to run off. He calls Connors dad and then the police.

She's touched by how concerned he is for Connor. She understands Connor feels neglected by his parents and is still crushed by the loss of his brother.

The next day is the town fireman's festival and Garrett has to work. He notices Zoey and she pulls him aside to talk.

She starts to tell him that being friends with benefits isn't working for her. He starts to protest and Carrie shows up.

Zoey talks to Carrie and tells her Connor needs help. That Carrie needs to be there for him. Carrie tells her Connors actions aren't her fault. Zoey tells her she knows, just like she knows Gus's actions aren't her fault.

Carrie feels awful and apologizes. She promises to help Connor. Zoey suggests Garrett could help and he suggests having Connor volunteer at the station.

When they're alone Garrett tells her he's in love with her. That he wants to be with her. She tells him she feels the same way.

Read in the box set BUCKHORN LEGACY through my library.
Started reading this in BUCKHORN LEGACY but realised Shohn’s story needed to be read first.
Not sure what is going on as this box set says it is books 5&6 Casey and Garrett but between Casey, book 5 and this story about Garrett, Shohn has apparently gotten engaged.
Back I go to read Shohn.
Okay, back again.
Garrett is a firefighter and the son of Morgan and Misty. He is another player but not as bad as some of the previous men.
I liked Zoey a lot. She was her own woman and she had guts dealing with the past, which was no fault of her own and compassion for Cody.
I found it funny Garrett trying to interfere between Amber and Noel, only because it was his sister. Double standards abound.
This is the seventh book in a row I have read straight through and I am done now.
Way too much rinse and repeat and the unreality of this series has gotten boring.
Never any other women drama, unplanned pregnancies, except for the poor women, the men are all massive players if not downright manwhores and the women who they want as wives are too good for them.
No matter how much I enjoyed reading these, I have overdosed.

I really liked this book, it was fast paced but didn’t feel rushed.
Like with Shohn and Nadine, Garrett and Zoey have known each other since childhood. Having that established relationship makes it easier for me to read short novellas ... makes it more believable.
Zoey is such a spit fire in this...she’s definitely not afraid to speak her mind that’s for sure! Garrett is so different than what I expected...especially being Morgan’s son!!!

I love that we get to see the original Buckhorn brothers throughout these new generation books. You can see the influence that the brothers had in each of these characters.
I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Zoey left town after scandal where she was blamed by many for the death of the high school football captain, who lost his temper when she said no to sex and her dumping him, and raced down the hill and ran off road. In High School she was a bit of a free spirit and non-conforming - though to be a bit odd. 8 years later she returns, and firefighter Garrett Hudson (a mutual H.S. crush, though neither did anything about it) goes to pick her up at the airport (at his sister's push)...

and they become friends... and friends with benefits... and love...
