Cute books that cuts back and forth between a chapter book and a comic book. Great for a new reader!
In the first book Clyde and his twin sister Claudia are going to the museum. Clyde eats a banana experimented on by Dr. Wally which makes Clyde turn into a monkey when he gets too excited. Clyde is holding his golden monkey toy when he bumps into a thief dressed as a guard who drops a real golden monkey - obviously the two golden monkeys get mixed up. A substitute turns up who is actually the thief but Clyde is able to get away using his monkey powers.
In the 2nd book Clyde and Claudia are getting a new next door neighbor and Clyde can't wait to meet them. When he goes to school, the school bully, Roz throws his baseball card so he can't find it anymore. So he has nothing to show in show in tell. So he turns into a monkey. His sister points out that he can't show himself, but he goes into the classroom as a monkey anyways and the monkey version of him takes Roz's skateboard. When he turns back to his kid version he gets in trouble for having Roz's skateboard and has to sit in the principal's office. After school he goes to check who his new neighbor is, first he discovers that the neighbor has a cat and he (as the monkey) and cat play. But then when he checks on the people in the house he finds out that his new neighbor is the principal. Thieves break into the principal's house and steal her baseball cards and her cat. Monkey Clyde leads the principal to the thieves. The Principal had two baseball cards of the one Clyde lost so she gives him the duplicate.
In Book Three Roz (the bully) has a dog named Chopper that scares Clyde. It is picture day at school and Clyde is excited to see who will disrupt the class picture, but ends up being him when he turns into a monkey. His sister steals the disc from the camera to cover up for her brother. When their mom sees the picture on Claudia's computer they lie and say they have a pet monkey. She doesn't believe them at first, but then Clyde leaves and comes in as his monkey self. When Roz says that she is going to enter Chopper in a Pet Show, Clyde decides that Claudia should enter him. But when thieves steal all the pet show pets (including Clyde) Clyde must escape and with his sister's help capture the thieves.
Fourth book - Claudia is worried that Clyde is turning into a monkey too much, sometimes he can't change all the way back (for instance at one point he is stuck with his monkey ears). So when Clyde is very excited about his Halloween costume (which is a monkey costume) Claudia makes him trade so that he will be an astronaut instead and she will be the monkey. Roz is dressed as a ghost at the school Halloween party. But after monkey Clyde makes a mess of the party (for which his sister is initially blamed) he sees both Roz but also a taller ghost who has stolen a purse. The thief ends up being Miss Mopper the substitute janitor, but since Roz got falsely blamed Clyde needs to get the principal to believe who really did it even if it means setting Roz free. In the end all is set right but as Clyde runs off we see that even though he is a boy now he has a monkey tail.
