The Warrior Race #1

The Warrior Race

Rate this book
Kira Blackstone’s reputation precedes her. Rebel, warrior, genetically enhanced killer. She’s fought since she was a girl to save the city of Haven. Now, unfortunately, her friends are going to have to fight their war without her.

Kidnapped during a fight by a group of mysterious soldiers, garbed in fine silver armour and flowing red robes, Kira finds herself waking in total darkness. For a girl who can see in the dark, that’s quite the rarity. And soon, she’ll find that her other powers have been suppressed as well.

She doesn’t know where she is. She doesn’t know who has taken her. But before too long, the mystery of her kidnapping will begin to unfold, and the reason she was taken will become crystal clear.

When it does, Kira will discover that the war she left might just have been nothing compared to what she now faces. And while she’s stood toe to toe with powerful foes before, she hasn’t seen anything yet.

The warrior race is on…

Set in the world set up by The Enhanced Series, the Warrior Race tells Kira’s story, taking you on a wild ride that expands on the world of The Enhanced in surprising and exciting ways. It can be read as an entry point into the world of The Enhanced, and no knowledge of the main series is needed to get stuck right in.

I didn't think Edge could create a character that's worse than Cromwell, but he did it in Empress Vesper! Dang I feel sorry for the people in her Queendom.

I'm happy to see Kira continuing to kick arse and taking names. I can't wait to see how else she defies the Empress.

This book was very entertaining, it was able to keep me hooked for hours on end allowing a quick push through it with a very entertaining adventurous experience full of all the best parts and things a book should have; a fun twisting unpredictable plot line with crazy turns that aren’t normally expected to keep the reader ever entertained, complicated realistic and relatable characters with ever special personalities, etc... All in all, I highly recommend this book it is great.

I love this new spinoff of the Enhanced Series! Kira was already a character I really liked from those books, so to get to see what is going on with her, now that she is no longer in Haven, was really exciting.
This new series has started off brilliantly with The Warrior Race. I can't wait for more from this talented author.

Not what I had expected ,I think...

Ok so, ever since it was announced that Kira was going to get a spin-off series, I was more than ready to read it. In the Enhanced series narrated by Brie, Kira was a very gentle and funny person yet she was very skilled and smart. In this book however, her beginning was slow and a little bit boring.

There is another character introduced into the series called Dom, which in my opinion is a complete waste of time. I am sorry, but I thought this book was supposed to be centered on Kira, not on another character. And this character "Domitian" just wasn't great for me. It could be because I don't like anything related to ancient Rome and such, and Dom is all about that. And the other character's point of view that I read in the book, "Merk", was...uninsteresting.

So, the kind of scenerio that Kira is brought into in this book is Ancient Rome, a city called "Neorome". Not of my liking, but at the end I have to say the action is good, the fights in which Kira is involved are good, and I hope in book 2 there will be less narration and more dialogue.

Anyway, it's a good book.

I really enjoyed the Enhanced series and read all 10 of those books before I started Kira's adventure. Having spent so much time in the world of the Enhanced I thought I knew what to expect, but I was just as surprised as Kira upon her arrival in Neorome. Toby has created another fascinating world that is highly believable in a post-apocalyptic future. I loved the setting for this story, and the level of detail in his descriptions was perfect. I could visualize everything perfectly and very much felt that I was there. I already thought that world building was one of Toby's talents with the first series and he proved it again with this book.
The characters were deep and believable to me as well. I think he gained a lot by working in the third person with this one, as it allowed him to show the complexity of the many characters he's working with.
Overall this was a great start to a new series, and if you enjoyed the Enhanced series you will enjoy this as well. Toby is clearly quite talented, and I look forward to reading more of this series and any future work he releases

Mixed

I like the concept. It feels like this Kira and the Kira in the enhanced series are two different characters. I expected a bit more homage to the original series especially through Kira's eyes. I don't mind the third person point of view but it was frustrating spending a page or two trying to figure out which characters perspective I was in. Totally ruined the beginning visuals of each chapter. Not a huge fan of how much focus was on the emperor's weight. Seemed rude and pointless. Also, I wish there was a better background between Dom and Luciwhatevers history. I love T.C.'s writing but this almost seemed like a rough draft.

Also, side note - book 2 was supposed to be out end of July / early August and I'm writing this at the end of August without a preorder option, release date or even listing of the second book. I understand that things happen but don't put a date on something if you can't deliver. :) Worth the read though.

Warrior Queen

Kira was a favourite of mine in the Enhanced series and I am enjoying her story. Kidnapped and then forced to participate in a type of Hunger Games, this story is not a new one but the cast of characters like Merk and even Prince Dom have hidden depths. Kira is a likeable character who has integrity and is a defender of the downtrodden against the wealthy and powerful. A little bit of subterfuge would not go astray though as Kira's feelings are not hard to read and she has made some powerful enemies. Will she survive the games and if so what part will Finn and Dom end up playing in her bid for freedom?

The Warrior Race: Book One (The Enhanced Universe)

Retelling of an old story

Format: Kindle Edition

I really enjoyed the character of Kira when she was introduced in the Enhanced series. I haven’t finished that series yet because I wanted to know what happened to Kira.
I hate to say that I was disappointed. This story is pretty much a new version of an old story. Within reading the first few chapters of this book, it reminded me of the movie “Gladiator”, the one with Russell Crow as the lead.
This book is written well. It was a few grammatical errors, but nothing major. 3 stars only because I really was disappointed with the storyline.

I wasn’t sure how I would like this book since it was Kira’s spin off from the Enhanced series but I glad I gave it a shot! There was much in understanding the deeper aspects of Kira like I was hoping but it was filled with action and suspense. More suspense than anything. This book goes from different point of views and it has some parallels to director cromwell, so if you enjoyed enhanced series then you’ll enjoy this one as well..

Good

I’m enjoying this second series (for me) by this author. With a dystopian world focusing on survival, one city has turned to an old form of entertainment: gladiators. Hunted and stolen from the world over, ones with powerful gifts are the most sought after.
I would love to give this 5 stars, but the errors prove to be quite frustrating (new instead of knew, spelling and grammatical errors). I do look forward to more books by TC Edge, preferably without errors.

The red warrior was a fantastic reading experience

The red warrior was a really exciting read. A story of a warrior that put her team to work taking out the most evil gladiators that were making the oppressed people develop some hope. The red warrior is a warrior that has a deep desire to eliminate despotic rulers that feed on death sentences to innocent people. Hurrah for the Red Warrior, may she prevail!

An excellent spinoff from the "Enhanced" series without giving away any huge spoilers. It seamlessly combines the futuristic dystopian characters we see in enhanced, while opening our eyes to a society we once thought old and gone. Edge brings this world back from extinction on a grand scale that is built up so well one can easily picture it when reading the story. Great book!

Gladiator fighting for a maniacal tyrant

Poor Kids was kidnapped from Haven to fight in the arena for the prince, and his unhinged despot of a mother, the ruler of Neorome. She doesn't kowtow to the queen, so she becomes the target of her ire now. Kids doesn't know just how deranged Draper is just yet, but she's learning. Good storyline, well written, although a little too much detail writing sometime, I think, making it slow the story a little, but still worth your time.

Great addition

Very well told addition to the main series. I had been left hanging and wondering what happened to a character. What a way to give more depth to someone from the main series.

I found myself thoroughly intrigued with this story. Although it is a spin off of the Enhanced series, it has a completely different feel to it, and I can't wait to read more of the story.

Solidly middle of the path book. Entertaining, but now that I have read 13 of her books, probably will finish this series and be done for a while.

This was definitely not a standalone book but was another well written story in the Enhanced universe. Now on to book two.
