Take a chance, what's the worst that could happen?
The residents of sleepy Ryan Harbour are about to find that out.
While a bucket list brings enemies, Diana and Lou together, landlord, Jamie Taylor's events to attract new customers to his pub don't quite turn out as planned. Robert and Grace's sexual experimentation is quite an eye opener to both of them and Dr Bryant's infatuation with his new locum could get dangerously out of hand if his wife finds out.
From flashing the pensioners at the local regatta and sustaining an injury while attempting a new position, onto being responsible for the extinction of an entire species; these new ventures may not bring the changes expected but with love and friendship blossoming, there's everything to gain.
"This is such a brilliant book. It is comical but also has a great storyline and characters I can completely picture and empathise with."
From the author of Driven to Distraction, Nothing Ventured takes the reader on another trip to Tenhamshire to meet a whole new cast of characters to laugh and empathise with.
Stuart Bone was born and raised in Essex, England. He spent twenty years working as an accountant in the London banking industry before giving it all up to concentrate full time on his writing career.
He started out writing humorous fiction and sets each of these books in his fictional county of Tenhamshire.
Stuart then branched out into psychological mystery thrillers. He continues to write in both genres and has seen his writing career go from strength to strength.
I had trouble getting into this book as it seemed to be rather pedestrian in the way the story unfolded. However, I'm glad I persevered with it. Overall, this story was a pleasant read, not many laugh out loud moments but quite amusing all the same. The characters were well defined and interesting but I was disappointed with the ending. Everyone lived happily ever after, or at least most of them did. The ending seemed contrived and somewhat cheesy.
Nothing Ventured by Stuart Bone was a goodreads win
Just the book to read if you want some light hearted, amusing diversion from reality!
A caste of likable characters live in a small sea side town, and each has a longing to do something different. They range in age and situation, so the reader can identify with at least one. We have an aging couple, with the man wanting to spice up their love life, the woman just not interested; leading to a series of embarrassing and comic situations. The pub owner is desperate to improve his trade, but all ideas end in disaster. A widow is persuaded to write a bucket wish list by her young neighbour, which transform both of their lives. Macho men, sexy women, single mums, cheating husbands, a coven of interfering do gooders – all the clichés are there. It has the potential to degenerate into farce, but somehow manages to keep on the side of humour, even the double entendre raises a smile rather than a sigh.
Just the book to read if you need cheering up, or if you are in danger of taking life too seriously.
I liked the cover of the book, the clear colours and strong composition, but felt the peach coloured title needed a fine black line round the letters to balance the design.
Thank you for this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. A laugh out loud book from the first chapter. A light hearted read about residents set in around a harbour. An easy nice read. Great mix of characters.
I will be looking and waiting for more books written by Stuart Bone.
This is an excellent book with realistic characters and situations. The authors natural ability to create humorous situations and conversations makes for a great read. It is hard not to become invested in the characters which for me signifies a great read. Thoroughly recommend it.
A very interesting slice if life and character study of a variety of people in a small English coastal town. A nice story that moved at a good pace, was very humorous at times and finished with a satisfying ending. Would definitely recommend!
I commute to work on the train everyday, and generally this is the only time I get a chance to read. Whilst reading this book I found myself not wanting to get to the end of my journey as I didn’t want to finish reading. Was sad when I got to the end.
Only my second Stuart Bone book and this one has everything from humour to touching sadness. A great mix of characters, some of whom you recognise in those around you - worryingly. Read it.
