From the cutting-edge London design agency Here Design - writer and poet Philip Cowell, and award-winning designer Caz Hildebrand, author of The Herbarium, this playful, original, beautifully designed book brings to life the punctuation marks we use every day, including:
The dashing dash - So-called "quotation marks" The colon: and on and on. The shouty exclamation! The three dots of... (Not forgetting the brackets)
A very poetic look at punctuation. Use of negative space is really very interesting. This is a fantastic book for really getting a feel for punctuation; I am sure I still make many mistakes - will have to come back to this book every now and then to try to make sure I am on the right track.
Came across this lovely little book whilst sorting out new books for the library. It's basically a long poem about grammar but rather cute. (Made a lovely change from looking at a load of Business books)
This is a gifty book, but I am not sure who I'd gift it to. It can be read to a kid, although the art is really nice and doesn't look like it was made for a kid. It can be gifted to an adult, but I'd only give it to an adult that loves punctuation.
Playful and clever introduction to punctuation. Cover looks like a toddler book but this one was written for upper elementary or middle school readers.
Seriously disappointing book about punctuation marks. I love punctuation, and I thought little individual poems about each mark would be fabulous! However, the sections are terribly uneven, with some poems cute and fun (apostrophe was my favorite), while others were straight-up lame (em dash comes to mind). The design is cool, but this is basically a forgettable book.
This could have been better. I am still left confused on some of these punctuation marks though. It was a really easy read and it was somewhat cute. Honestly, I wouldn't actually recommend this, while it was cute it was just not worth the effort. I would say officially 2.5 stars but rounding down to 2.
This is a cute book that visually explains the correct ways to use punctuation marks. Quick "read;" will give to my English major mother. Writers will enjoy... but Strunk & White still rules!
Quirky, stylish but a very easy read. All in black and white and loved the simplicity blended with the abstract way of thinking to make it thoroughly enjoyable. Loved the way it gives punctuation marks personality.
