Rate this book
For Hanzo, an old man and successor to a Japanese ninja clan, lonely days came to an end when he took in Jiro. Jiro is Hanzo's only companion. They do everything and go everywhere together, but Jiro has a secret. Every morning when Hanzo trains using his ninja skills, Jiro watches him intently soaking in Hanzo’s every move and technique. When Hanzo is gone or asleep, Jiro practices everything he’s learned from Hanzo. The surprising twist is that Jiro is a dog, a small pug to be exact!

Since Hanzo was the last of his family after losing his only son, Ichiro, in a car accident and his grandson, Ryoichi, who went missing shortly after, Jiro has made it his duty to become Hanzo’s successor! But Hanzo’s world seems to go downhill fast once their home is broken into and some important books were discovered missing. Not wanting the old man to suffer any more than he has, Jiro decides to find Hanzo’s missing books.

Jiro teams up with Luna, a white poodle, and they embark on a mission to retrieve Hanzo’s books from the thieves. What the two small dogs were not expecting was that these books contain the power of the Hakumoto Clan. What is even more surprising is that the thieves happened to be highly talented and trained ninjas. Jiro’s life is instantly turned upside down as secrets are revealed and someone from Jiro’s past might have come back into his’ and Hanzo’s life. Follow Jiro and Luna on their journey in “Ninja pug: Retrieving the Stolen Books.”

This book is about a small pug dog named Jiro. He is a constant companion to his owner, an elderly man named Hanzo. Hanzo is a ninja who trains every morning. Jiro watches everything his owner does. When his owner leaves every day, Jiro practices his ninja skills too. Hanzo’s home was broken into and some books that were important to him went missing. The reason the books were so important is because the books contain power that is from the Hakumoto clan of ninjas. Jiro decides to use his ninja skills to get the books back. He joins forces with a poodle named Luna. The genre of this book is comedic fiction. This book is part of a series of Ninja Pug books. The book will motivate young readers who enjoy comedy. It is similar to the Bunnicula series of books. The book is an easy read that will motivate reluctant chapter book readers to read longer passages in chapter book form and motivate young readers to begin chapter books.

Hanzo (Japanese elderly man, ninja clan successor) & Jiro are now companions.
Jiro loves watching Hanzo practicing ninja & he tries to do it at night.
Hanzo’s son Ichiro died in a car accident, & Ryoichi (grandson) went missing.
Now Hanzo’s books are missing.
The 2 of them & Ninja (brown pug) are going to find the Hakumoto Clan thieves.
What did Zen tell them?
Will they find the books?

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) fantasy storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s fantasy movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Amazing what you can learn by watching

A great start. A plot of theft and a sensai who's son has been killed, his grandson missing and now alone except for a small pug he rescued off the streets. Uknown to him the pug has been watching him everyday as he trained and has managed to learn a lot. When the house is broken into and family books go missing our faithful pug decides to get them back. Only he's got a companion that he picked up from next door. A poodle! Can the two small dogs trace the books to the thieves? What happens when they do?
Wonderful action filled read for readers of all ages. The characters assistant a nice depth to the read and I loved the way that loyalty was presented. Although I'm sure we can guess who Ryo is?

Nice bedtime reading

My kids really enjoyed Ninja Pug and I am already started on the second book. I gave it four stars because I found a grammar mistake here and there (maybr two or three). I'd suggest a grammar check.

Fun story, reminiscent of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I really liked the out protagonist of this story, and the plot is fun. My main quibble is with some typos and wrong tenses of words.

Not enjoyable

The pug is thoughtful but I find the amount of grammatical errors were distracting. The story was original but wasn't very enjoyable to read our loud because of the grammar.
