The Body Nirvana: More Than Just a Weight-loss Book

Rate this book
The body listens, remembers and speaks to us. We receive the body's messages all the time, although we seldom recognize them. Our body expresses its unmet needs and calls for attention in many ways.
And so it is with weight. This is a puzzling matter only because some pieces of the puzzle are not in the box you were handed. Your weight is not a body issue. Excess weight is really a multi-dimensional problem showing up as an oversized body.
Popular media is still full of diet and exercise advice that is based on sacrifice and punishment. Too few books use this research to show how weight can be reduced in a happier and healthier way. The Body Nirvana is about gradually letting go of everything that literally and metaphorically weighs you down. It is time to rejoice in your body's vitality and its capacity to take you towards your life's goals!

I have read "Let your kid learn to loose" by Garima Gupta. I was thoroughly impressed by the idea. Well, the content of the book was very short as the book turned out as just a booklet or pamphlet-sized. So when I saw "The Body Nirvana" by the same author, I checked other's reviews and book size. The book turned out as a full size 230 pages long, so I thought of investing my efforts in the book. I would like to thank Garima to provide the book in exchange for an honest review.

Talking about the content, I loved the book the moment I read the first chapter which shows 14-15 facts that affect our body and weight. The author has taken a straight approach and showed us our misconceptions. I was so into the book that from parallel read, the book became single read. These eye-opening facts followed by 3-4 chapters where the author has shown us ways to bring positive attitude towards weight loss. Each of these chapters covers activities where the author has shown us what small-small changes needed in our lives, behaviors, habits, and attitude. Along with that, she has talked about "Mind Game". These are the excuses we give for not working towards a healthy life. Later chapters talk more on mental and psychological levels to bring overall positiveness towards weight loss concept. Read the book to know more.

I would say whether you are fat or thin, whether you are looking for weight gain or weight loss you must read this book once. The way the author has shared topics I started feeling positive even though I have extra pounds around my belly.

Good points about the book
1) Novel concept. No doubt about the novelty.
2) Scientific support of content
3) Full with activities to apply these concepts
4) Myth breaker
5) Good/humourous artwork at the beginning of each chapter
6) Ample use of quotations
7) Easy language and to the point
8) Not much theory. Full of examples.

The Body Nirvana Book Review @Garima_coach #BookReview

The Body Nirvana by Garima Gupta and HarperCollins India stands apart from other similar books because of its scientific and logical approaches. Author's father and brother, both being doctors yet not able to handle complex cases needing psychological counseling rather than just medicines. And that professional counseling is nowhere a part of the curriculums of medical courses. Garima being a background of education in psychology felt a strong need of it and thus adopted this direction to guide and counsel well at least in one critical field of medicine, life, lifestyle, and health that is WEIGHT. This one area gives rise to many physical and psychological abnormalities despite multiple treatments via different specialists in the field handling the situation in isolation and not in totality. That shortfall in the field made author specialize in this field. And thus this book is a result of those.

Garima is a mind-body wellness coach, holistic weight loss specialist, and now an author. She has a strong belief that mind has a substantial role to play in physical health and weight loss. It is not merely a game of dieting, supplements, exercise, and some diet plans. Everything is a waste, a short-term solution, or an adverse situation unless during this whole course of action you don't channelize your mind along the path. It is always better to be naturally healthy and happy rather than losing weight under stress. The former is possible only by unleashing the power of the mind as the author suggests. The photographs, graphics, and drawings help in making the things understandable in a better and faster manner. The Body Nirvana makes you understand the things in a scientific, psychological, and systematic manner thus making it a useful collectible and a helpful partner.

It is a read-and-practice concept that if you adopt will make the excellent activities a part of your routine. The ultimate goal should be to make these good activities a part of your habit. The Body Nirvana is a result of the good amount of research and references. Thus giving you a great level of satisfaction that you are on a right track. Like it is quite surprising to see the lower rate of heart diseases among French despite their high level of intake of cheese and pork. In fact, American scientists are not able to digest this fact how bad food is leading to good health there. That proves how you digest your food is more important than what you eat. It is a pure game of mind and body and not body alone.

There are many such astonishing facts, reasons, examples, and guidelines that become very important to understand by reading this book The Body Nirvana. Very rightly, as the title cover says - It is more than just a weight loss book. It is, in fact making you understand the whole paradigm in a very different and convincing manner. It is worth spending Rs 299 for this book of health, weight, and knowledge. Because it will not benefit you alone but your family, friends, and colleagues. This is a result of 15-years experience and wisdom that speaks in this book. For the first time, somebody is connecting the dots well. And presenting the whole ecosystem of weight, diet, mind, health, and life in a holistic manner. In this, emotions, psychology, and attitude play significant roles.

An excellent book which is not only meant for weight loss but also talks about taking good care of your body and mind. The psychologically aspects introduced in this book are very insightful. The tips about nutrition science, how your body works and positive thinking are one of the best part of this book. I gave this book To my mom and she found it very helpful and informative. After implementing those practical tips you can definitely see some positive changes in life. Recommended for everyone

A nice engaging and informative book

I took just two days to finish this book, that engaging. Once started , It felt like conversing with the author than just reading. Facts are very well presented with a meaningful spiritual touch. What the author has summarized in the end of the book ,under the heading "what it all comes down to" are pure pearls of wisdom. Thanks for offering an insightful read

A really good and important book. Loved how the book rarely talks about the foods one should have and shouldn't have. It talks about the psychological aspects that can cause weight gain and how a negative approach towards food can promote weight gain. Talks about techniques that can improve our relationship with food. Nobody ever told me things like this. Made me question my habits and shabby eating.

The body nirvana is a self-help book written by a mind-body wellness coach. She believes that our mind is the missing piece of the weight loss puzzle. Her approach in this book is to alert the reader about their mind and teach them that their appearance and what their mind tells them about it can have a drastic effect on their weight.

The book offers various exercises teaching you to think differently towards yourself, understand your body in a better way and to ultimately achieve the results you have always wanted.

I particularly enjoyed the fact that the methods provided were not just beneficial for health but promoted positive thinking and stress management.

The literature was friendly and easy to understand. The subject matter was well-paced and put together. The entirety of the work focuses on human health and changes that benefit the cause therefore, it was useful, educational and informative.

I would recommend this book to people who like to educate themselves with the human body, weight control and wish to de-stress.

This book played a crucial role in helping me embrace a healthier lifestyle. It reinforces the idea that our bodies deserve love and care, regardless of size. Health isn’t about reaching a particular number on the scale—it’s about making mindful choices that nourish both the body and mind.

Many people think healthy living means sacrificing joy, but that’s far from the truth. This book beautifully explains that true wellness comes from balance, not deprivation. It’s about celebrating life, enjoying food without guilt, and recognizing that nutrition and pleasure can go hand in hand.

One of the most powerful messages in this book is that life doesn’t begin at a certain weight—it begins when we choose to fully live. If you’ve ever felt pressured by unrealistic standards, this book is a must-read. It encourages self-acceptance, holistic well-being, and the freedom to enjoy a happy, healthy life at any size. Love your body, love your journey, and make choices that bring both health and happiness!

Simply a superb piece of writing! Apart from the diet ...the mind-set is so much more important to remain in a healthy body. Thankfully someone came forward to talk about it :) :)
