Mix Fine Dining, murder, secret codes and blackmail with delicious Banana Fudge donuts for a good, entertaining read. Heather Shepherd , owner of Donut Delights and private investigator plus her crew of her husband, Detective Ryan Shepherd and her best friend and private investigator, Amy Givens rise to the occasion to figure out who killed their waiter. This is book # 50 in the Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read this book. Thanks to the author for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
They are calling her boss to tease her, she would rather they called her Heather. They were more like family to her than employees. Heather and Ryan had a double date with Amy and Jamie at an expensive restaurant. Amy was one that enjoyed dressing up. The waiter Phillip was good with explaining the menu, but the waiting for their order was taking too long. Ryan taking out his badge finally got the attention of another waiter. Phillip was not to be found till Ryan got a call. Questions of why he would step outside when working. A past that has unexplained money, a picture of a girl. The case is a puzzle for Heather, as is the lovers quarrel of Amy and boyfriend. Good plot to enjoy
Banana Fudge Murder is the 50th installment in Susan Gillard’s Donut Hole Cozy Mystery series. This is an easy, fun, and clean read. The author indicates that this book is typo free with no grammar issues; however, that is not the case, and editing and proofing are still lacking.
Heather, Ryan, Amy, and Jamie are on a double date at a fancy French restaurant when their waiter, Phillip Ruth, who had been pleasant and helpful, disappears before delivering their second glasses or wine or placing their food order. The manager, Pete Johnson, is quite apologetic and takes good care of them. While still eating their dinner, Ryan receives a call about a murder victim, who turns out to be their missing waiter. Ryan, Heather, and Amy work together to solve the murder and Lilly helps Heather decipher a code in Phillip’s notebook.

I have enjoyed this series as a nice fun, easy read. But the editing & proofreading on this one was truly awful. If the author is going to use French words, invest in a decent English to French dictionary, or at least try Google. It's not Mousier, it's Monsieur. I can only assume the author meant "Oui" when she typed Oiu. But even most English spell-checkers would highlight those as mistakes.
I am glad I got the book when it was being offered free, because if I had paid more than $0.05 for that horridly edited work, I would have been much more upset.
I will give full points to the author for figuring out that mystery readers do not like it when the solution comes from information that was not shared with the reader until the investigator unmasks the killer, which was a problem with many of the other books in this series. When the editing improves, it would be a really fun series I would recommend to others.
This book has a little more character building, specifically with Amy and Jamie. We get to see them work through their issues throughout this book. Ok well not throughout, just quickly at the end. I would really like to see much more character development and see more realistic conversations between 2 characters who aren't Heather, Amy and Ryan.
I enjoyed the story and also liked how we got to meet the victim before they were murdered. It's an interesting little story, it still has Lyle Clark as a suspect near the end. I feel like the Character is running its course and hopefully will be gone soon. I do like how Kate isn't anywhere in this book or the past few one.
Overall, it's a fine book, but I really want to get longer stories.
I just finished book 50 in the don't let whole series. I'm glad to see that our old buddy Lyle Clark is back in the saddle. We have Amy and Heather going on a double date with their men and all of a sudden their waiter disappeared period only to find out that he was murdered and now Heather, Amy and Ryan have to figure out what happened. I like the fact that Jamie was in this book again, Amy's boyfriend, and they are making progress with their relationship. I didn't expect to read this book necessarily within 24 hours but I couldn't put it down. The only thing that left me from giving this book 5 Stars was a few grammatical errors but all-in-all amazing. Susan Gillard has done it again.
If you like donuts, you must read this series. You will also get sarcastic jokes and a new type of donut in each installment , as well as a new murder mystery in each one. Love this series!
Always a good read I'm so glad that she keeps writing them I hope she will write another one soon usually they come out in twos so I was I was looking already looking for number 51
I have read all 50 books by Susan Gillard and have loved all of them I want to go to the donut shop and meet the characters in person I can't wait till 51
Heather, Ryan, Amy and her boyfriend Jamie go out to try a new restaurant. Their order is taken, but their waiter and dinner never arrive back to the table. Well, Ryan gets a phone call to check out a murder scene and guess who the victim is.... you got it, their waiter! That would explain part of his disappearance, but who and why was he killed? Another case for all to investigate, and more about Amy and Jamie's relationship. An enjoyable read.
