***This is NOT a YA Series but a New Adult (17+). Sexual Content and Language.***

It's been four weeks since Ember Brycin witnessed what her powers are capable of. The Electrical Current Storm has turned Seattle, Washington into a natural disaster zone. The death toll is in the thousands with countless others homeless and hungry.

And Ember is the one who caused it. Something she will have to live with every day.

Those people who were unable to escape either turned quickly into gangs or live in shelters. Ember, on the other hand, can’t do either. With a price on her head and a Dark Dweller on her ass, she is constantly on the move. Both Light and Dark are hunting her for their own purpose to use her as a weapon or a pawn in the war between the Unseelie King of the Dark and the Seelie Queen of the Light.

Em needs help but doesn’t know who to trust: Lars, the mystery man Torin told her to find? Torin, the Seelie Queen’s personal knight, who has sworn to keep Em safe? Or Eli, who wants to turn her over to the Unseelie King, but whom she has an undeniable, intense connection with?

No matter what she chooses she will probably lose—her life or everything and everyone she loves.

"I can´t fight you anymore, woman. I will follow you anywhere in the world if you ask me."

This is a one POV book, told by the POV of Ember.

I really liked this and sped through it in one sitting. I even almost forgot to pick out a quote for the review.

I loved Ember in this book, she is getting stronger and stronger and I love that for her. The tension between her and Eli is so high and they keep pushing and pulling each other. Also the slow-burn is so slow, it is almost killing me. Although I feel like a lot of their problems wouldn´t be there, if she actually would let Eli talk and explain sometimes. Also another small minus I want to add is that I disliked the hints towards a love triangle a bit, even though it is quite obvious with whom she is gonna end up with.

Absolutely loved the side characters. Yes I am still in love with West, I won´t deny it. Loved all the other newly added side characters. How does Stacey Marie Brown write such fine ass man!? Somebody tell me the secret, because I seem to fall in love with almost all of them.
I loved how the sidecharacters from the first book were still in this one, and weren´t disregarded or forgotten and I loved to get more background story on most of them.

The story had a good pace, events weren´t happening to quick or too slow in my opinion. It was absolutely action packed. Some of the plot twists I did accept and some were obvious to me but I really enjoyed it nevertheless. Loved the newly introduced creatures, there were some I haven´t read about in other fantasy books before.

Overall it was an exciting and amazing read and I can´t wait to dive into the third book and start seeing it all connect to each other.

My Feelings While Reading:

First, My Eli:

Yes, my cocky, self assured, mystery clouded, Eli

He makes me... well several things. With the sexual tension between he and Ember that you can feel through the pages...

Lip biting doesn't even describe what I want to do with this fictional character. If that makes me crazy, so be it.

Figuring out a major plot twist that is to come in Book 3, I am left with crazy waiting anxiety. I am pretty sure I will be proved right on my theory as to how Eli is truly connected with Ember.

My don't go there moment:

My head is all over the place with this book, (hence the pics and not a traditional review) but it was worth it.

I have found an author to look out for. Stacey Marie Brown has mastered the art of character building and plot twisting. Her ablity to create this amazing story in such an effortless way found me completely believing. Thus leaving me craving for more.

I would recommend this to all my Goodread friends. Those who love Jennifer L Armentrout will find you have a new favorite author.
Read this, and then recommend it.

After that, join me in my happy dance...

3.5 ⭐⭐⭐✨

Fire in the Darkness picks up where Darkness of Light left off. The first half of the story has improved compared to the first book, it stepped things up. More interaction between Ember & Eli (finally😏) but the love-hate relationship is still there. We get to know more about the Dark Dwellers and some new characters especially in the second half of the story. I can’t help but mention Cal & Simmons 😁 a breath of fresh air for this book.

Though upon reaching the second half it kinda slowed down and nothing much happened until the final pages which lead to more questions on what really happened? I just felt like everyone has kept a secret to Ember (Poor girl🙄).

Hopefully with the ending the next book will be so much better 😊

“So I’m a Fay-Demon-Dark Dweller mix? I am a mutt of the Fae world?” I screeched. “Are you kidding me?”

Fire In the Darkness by Stacey Marie Brown- 5 stars

Just when I thought I had my mind wrapped around all that is Ember Brycin, Stacey Marie Brown goes and makes her all the more dynamic, tenacious, and craaaaazy hot vixen on me! With secrets unearthed and facades crumbling, Ember’s journey has become wrought with challenges of her mind, body, and heart that have her (and me!) completely torn.

I was blown away by the first installment of the Darkness series, and I couldn’t wait to get back to the story. The world building for this part-dystopian/part-fantasy sequel continues the same fascinating track that the series started with, as Light vs. Dark threw Ember in the middle of a tug-of-war while the city around her was in ruins. Ember carried the guilt of what her powers had done, the fear of being caught and used as a weapon, and the heartache of knowing the man she felt connected to had betrayed her. She’s bereft in every sense of the word when we first see her again, struggling to survive on her own in the crumbled city while constantly looking over her shoulder. It wasn’t until a certain sexy-as-sin Dark Dweller plowed back into her life that she realized just how much danger she’d been in that whole time, and just how much she craved him. And oh, there’s even more to crave this time around, because Eli and Ember were like oil and flame every time they came near each other!!

Ember was questioning everything as she tried to figure out the motives of pretty much everyone around her. It was dizzying for her, trying to determine whom she could really trust and who was just in it for the prize…her. Every time it seemed like she’d found a safe place and could take a breather, her world came tumbling down again and she was forced to take stock of what she had and who her allies were. I wanted so badly for Eli to be what she needed him to, and my heart raced whenever they grew a little closer; yet there was a huge part of me that loved Torin for always being there and giving up so much for her. It’s going to break my heart no matter whom she ends up with at this point, I don’t know how the talented Ms. Brown will make that decision without a lot of tears!! Either way though, the newly toughened and battle-scarred Ember deserves to have a man willing to risk it all!

The nail-biting battles and intense action were awesome yet again, and I was a nervous wreck when Ember chose paths that led to certain danger for her. There were some huge twists that have me so freaking excited to get my hands on the next installment of the story, and it’s going to be one hell of a tortuous wait. As the rest of the fog begins to lift in this compelling series, I can only imagine how much more intense it’s going to get, but it’s a must-read without question!!

Quotes:

I was half Demon but I had yet to possess or torment any souls. Maybe I just needed to give it time. Spending more time with Eli might do it. ~ Loc 448

“I don’t know if I want to smack you because you’re naïve or plain stupid,” Eli said, irritation soaking his words.
“You touch me and you lose your most beloved girlfriend there.” I nodded toward his hand.
Eli scoffed. “Then I’ll train yours.” ~ Loc 1260

“What else is out there hunting me?”
“There are a lot of different beings that could be,” Eli snapped.
“Like what?”
“You want me to go through the Fae directory?” Eli’s voice rose. ~ Loc 1272

Fire and ice seared through me. My legs began shaking but somehow I got to my feet. Shadows were thick, but my eyes were slowly adjusting. I didn’t need to see, though; my heart and gut knew. ~ Loc 4120

Rating: 3/3.5 stars to Fire in the Darkness

“Between the Light and Dark there was me – the Fire. Either I would light the way or burn it to ash.”

Ember is at the mercy of both Light and Dark, hunted on all accounts and from every angle for what she is and what she possesses, safe from nothing and nobody - not even those she thought she could trust. Four weeks on the run, Ember is little more than a vagabond, on the run from the forces out to get her – The Dark Dwellers intent on trading her to the Unseelie king and the Seelie Queen hunting her to use as a personal weapon. Ember is striving for survival whilst hiding under the shadows of the world, losing all pretences of her safety and must depend on instinct and her newly heightened senses courtesy of a certain Dark Dweller’s blood running through her veins. Seattle is a ruin, little more than a barren wasteland with severely depleted resources after Ember's fire ravaged the land and its people. With the complete city in turmoil, Ember hides amongst the carnage and the city’s fractured people to evade being caught. Ember is as much a danger to the world as she is to herself; her raw, unpractised and volatile power grants her little control over its enormity and her biggest fear is herself as her power can just as easily destroy as it can heal. Her power is a dormant bomb, and Ember is subjected to its chaotic nature just as much as she is a foreigner to what she is, or should I say is becoming.

Still reeling from the news that her life has been nothing but a falsification, her world is torn asunder as she is processing what these discoveries mean for her and unfortunately for her it only gets worse for the girl of fire. Her battle is one of survival, Identity, evolution and acceptance as well as maintaining vigour in enduring betrayal and loss in a changing, lonely world whilst navigating the parameters of her life despite being used and manipulated into false trust by almost everyone, Eli included. Her weaknesses are being wielded against her and Ember suffers great grief and the guilt of her mistakes is almost too unbearable and a shameful burden to bear but nonetheless Ember is stalwart, resolute and devoted to protecting hers - making much progress, honing not only her body, mind and skill but learning something of potentially greater power, knowledge (that which has made her ignorant for so long) now that war is looming. If Ember hates anything it is the idea of her destiny being decided for her and her choices being taken away from her. Ember battles not only the Dark and Light forces of the external world but the darkness of light within her. With every truth and alarming bombshells being revealed at every turn, Ember is a cyclone of emotions and her protector Torin, still at her side will do anything to see her safety, toying unwarranted lines to ensure she survives. I admire Ember’s ferocity, determination and fighting spirit in her atrophying world. New characters and new creatures show themselves as Ember finds herself in the domain of the Unseelie King who makes a bargain with her, bounded by magic and should she betray him she shall suffer disconcerting consequence. Ember's loyalty is to none but her family and friends, even if that means forsaking her heart and making sacrifices that will change everything.

Eli is still an ass but one who grows on you. He is much more much more bearable, though it took me a good chunk of the book to dull my simmering enmity toward him for his cruel treatment of Ember. He is still a point of conflict for me, as I don’t know if I want to break his nose or kiss him, but I think I love to hate him and vice versa. Ember's heart and mind are at war where Eli is concerned because he is one of her biggest threats but the simmering passion between them is obvious. Their relationship is stormy and anything but simple considering all the complications, barriers, lies and secrets demarcating them. Their bond is only growing but Ember can’t help her attractions and affections to her blue eyed Knight Torin who is also more than he appears to be.

Much like the first book most of the plot was predictable but there were MANY things I did NOT see coming which compensated for the expected. I had similar issues with this book as I did with the prior, most of which were brilliantly addressed and rectified. This novel is infinitely better than its predecessor, but I was so pleasantly surprised with this read and I felt so satisfied after I finished, in a hurried mess to crack open 'Dwellers of Darkness'. This story is so many twisted kinds of layers of shocking ‘what her actual hell’ moments. The author always keeps me second guessing, on my toes, biting my tongue, and questioning the loyalties of the people I started to trust. I find myself starting to trust people but then one action or declaration changes everything, questioning their motives incessantly, making my own loyalties fleeting and I love it when authors play with me like that no matter how much it impacts emotional status. I felt a great deal and I love it when a book just takes you by surprise when you don’t have that high an expectation and it was amazing. I like all of the character developments as well as the characters themselves, the writing was MUCH better, the story was gripping, heart-rebooting and there was plenty of magic and action which I love. I am obsessed with high stakes action, drama, conflict, and bloodthirsty battle but what I also like is a good sense is comedic relief intertwined into the story and I got that too. There is obviously an abundance of lies and secrets under the surface - still being concealed in this huge web of duplicity and I’m excited to find out more!

“For so long I had hid in the shadows, afraid of why I felt so different. But now I wrapped myself in the darkness, finally knowing where I belonged.”

“Seems you were right.” I dragged my lips lightly over his, my voice sounding breathless and needy.
“Really?” His lips curved into a smile over mine.
My knee came up hard hitting its target. Eli doubled over in pain, sliding down the wall to the ground.
“I have been dreaming about doing that since I met you.” I turned and sauntered towards the door. “I can play this game, too.”
There would be hell to pay and a cold shower to take, but I didn’t care. It was so worth it.”

“I fight wanting you every minute of the day. And I shouldn’t. I should be disgusted by you, by the mere idea of kissing you. But I’m not. I like you – as a person. You make me laugh. You constantly challenge me. I like when you around and I hate that. You are everywhere and in everything.”

Moning's Fever series meets The Mortal Instruments.

Always write your book review before you read the next book! Let me think...

Eli and Embers back and forth relationship gets really tiresome. Fortunately, the storyline takes off and we get introduced to some great new characters to keep things interesting. Again great interaction between characters, borderlines on wordy at times but overall it's good stuff.

We've gone from edgy to steamy romantically, young'uns beware. It's descriptive and blunt but not quite erotica. This series has left the YA genre and entered NA territory.

I am still on the fence do I or don’t I like this series.

I want to like it sooooo badly, I am just not connecting with Ember like I did with Zoey. Maybe it’s the age? And that Ember seems so teeny and Zoey didn’t.

I will say things heat up in this book and I am looking forward to see where the story is going to go.

I am still torn between Eli & Torin.. and West kind of make me go hmmm

So it will be fun to see where this is all going to go.

I like the narration but I don’t love it. I am holding judgment until the end of the series.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Following the aftermath of the destruction of Seattle, Ember is on the run from everyone. Eli finally catches up with her and takes her back to the Dark Dweller compound to keep her safe. Ember and Eli resume their bickering and sexual tension increases. Lorcan then shows up and

I'm hooked on this story. Even though there are a few things that bug me about it, I still can't seem to get enough of Ember and Eli. Lots of stuff happens in this installment in the series, but most of it lays the groundwork for bigger things to come. I'm looking forward to continuing the series....when I find the time!

Stacey Marie Brown really upped her game with the second book in the Darkness series. I'm pretty impressed with how much better it was than the first book. I really enjoyed the first book, but there were a few things that I felt needed refinement. Most of those things were definitely improved in this book.

The flow of the story is much better in this book. I felt that the first book dragged in the middle a bit, but this one didn't suffer at all in that respect. Everything was spaced out very nicely. I liked the plotting much better in this book. The story is engaging, intriguing, and will keep you wanting to read more. You will absolutely want to know what is going to happen next. The plot really does thicken and get so much better.

I liked the world-building much more in this book as well. The first book felt more like a contemporary to me since the paranormal aspects were hidden from the main character for most of the book. This book changed that. We get to see the Otherworld in addition to Earth in this book. I really liked the distinctions between the worlds in the writing.

I loved the addition of new characters in this book. I adore all of the side characters and how they become family to Ember, the main character. Both the Dark Dwellers and the Unseelie King's household become family to her and I liked the way it progressed. I still thought that Ember's character had some annoying traits, but I still like her. She can be a little presumptuous and mouthy, not letting anyone get a word in. This is perhaps a legitimate character flaw that is supposed to bring something to the story, but I found it cringe-worthy to read about. I kept yelling at her in my head when she flew off the handle without giving letting anyone else get a word in edgewise.

I am still on board for the hate-to-love trope being played out in the romance between Ember and Eli. I did feel like their coming together wasn't entirely convincing in the first book, and I still feel that way. It happened too quickly for my liking. But I enjoy their romance as a whole even if it didn't come together in the best way. Ember and Eli are still angsty with each other, though I didn't get the unhealthy "domestic abuse" feel from it in this book like I did in Darkness of Light. I do enjoy their snappy and aggressive banter. It is greatly entertaining. Deep down it shows that the characters are in love, even if they fight it for their own reasons. I have no doubt that their romance will get even heavier in the rest of the series. I am also enjoying the "love triangle/not a love triangle" thing going on with Torin. Torin is in love with Ember and she cares for him, but she has never claimed to love him in the same way. I loved the dreamscape scenes when Ember would pull Torin, Eli, and herself into them. The jealousy was tantalizing. And honestly, any time there is more than one option on the table for romance it makes things way more interesting.

The only thing that I remotely disliked in this book was that there were way too many spelling and grammatical errors throughout the book. It needed a serious overload of editing, but the writing is solid and the story is golden.

Overall, I am so glad that I decided to continue this series. I have no doubt that this series will end up being one of my favorites. I already adore it and I'm not even halfway through it. If you are a paranormal romance or urban fantasy fan then you should try this series!

I think I enjoyed this one more than the first. But I think that has more to do with the fact that we weren't weighed down by world building here because we know the characters and what they can do, so it was easy for the author to just jump right in. The pacing was also much better which really helped with the flow.

After escaping the Queen, Ember must live as a refuge with her enemies - the Dark Dwellers. Only they aren't really enemies but are becoming more like a family. I liked how Ember's initial thoughts of the group was changed over time. And it felt natural. She wasn't instantly at home and comfortable, but over time, you could see that they all shared a connection. But of course, nothing is perfect and Ember flees finding solace somewhere no one could have imagined - well, except Torin.

We got to meet more characters in this book and really liked the additions. I also like how Brown plays with Light and Dark and what evil really means. Darkness doesn't necessarily mean evil just like Light doesn't necessarily mean good. And Ember struggles with this concept, as most people do. But I liked watching her walls come down and I felt she really came into her own in this book. It was also nice to see her interact with other characters besides just Eli and his family.

Another thing I liked was we got to see the illusive Otherworld. This mythical place that Eli and his family are desperately trying to get back to. Ember finds her way there and then finds some secrets she never expected. Then the ending happened and it had me reaching for the next book the minute my kindle said 'book completed'. It's just a fun series so far and I'm enjoying it.

Ember is really finding herself and the magnitude of her power in this second book. I love how she is becoming stronger and willing to protect her family no matter what the consequences. I am also loving the addition of some hot males Cole, Cooper, West and of course Eli Dragen ❤️ sigh.... Torin is also starting to make an impression on me.
“You trust me, right?” Torin’s gentle hands gripped my arms. “You know I’d do anything in my power for you.” He pulled me to him and his warm lips found mine in the dim corridor. My first instinct was to push him away, but he held me in tighter, his lips hot and passionate, consuming me with emotion. Like floodgates, all the emotion I kept locked inside—the hurt, the fear, the loneliness—came pouring out. I kissed him
back with desperation and need. He was my only link to safety, to my family and friends, to my escape, to anything I knew. Passion and desperation are strong motivators. Heat sizzled in my veins as his mouth moved over mine. I longed to escape from this harsh reality, to let him help me forget Eli, to forget all my pain.

I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Courtesy of Lovers of Paranormal Group

We find Brycin four weeks after her powers are forced to surface in the worst way.
She has no allies but one man, Torin. He is only available to her in dream, but not physically per se, being close to her doesn't help her much anyway.
She's on the run from the Seelie Queen's minions all searching for her. Ember is Dae a mix of pure Fay and Demon. It makes her a most unusual and powerful asset.
The queen will stop at nothing to get her hands on Ember.
The thing lacking in the beginning of this story is Eli, the unforgettable force of nature that rocked Ember's world in book one.
His brother had been his undoing, after all Eli wanted to get close to her and give her to the Unseelie King in trade. At least that was the original plan. But then he met Ember and things went way different until Lorcan his brother showed up.
Anyway, so Ember is on the run and steering clear of humans as well as all sorts of Fae.
The lack of Eli is quickly remedied as he enters the scene to be her 'knight in shining armor' but Ember is so not impressed.
She has no trust for him after his betrayal.

They go through the ringer and discover new things about themselves and each other.
The Dark Dwellers that are Eli's family are protecting Ember but she is leery. She knows that motive drives every person who is in her life at the moment.
Ember is forced to make some seriously hard decisions that are going to hurt one way or another.
When Lorcan strikes again tragedy looms and Ember runs away and where she ends up is shocking.

I was definitely shocked at Lars other name and just when I thought I had it figured out! I had only been half right!
She's getting trained and pumped full of knowledge about both Fay and Demon history as well as the prophecy.
She learns that some things aren't as they seem. Ember also finds out Torin was right about Lars.
With tensions flaring and everything she loves on the line Ember must learn to control her immense powers to save herself as well as the ones she loves.

This is a stunning read that will twist you and make you laugh, just hang on and enjoy the ride.
And oh the revelations... I really don't like Lorcan...
All in all an extremely satisfying NA read!

I frikken LOVED this !!!!
review posted here...
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...

Argh, I frikken LOVED this!!! I need more now!!!
As the synopsis tells us – it’s been four weeks since Ember was forced to use her powers to decimate Seattle, four weeks since she managed to escape Aniera’s clutches but also four weeks that her father has been in captivity and four weeks that she has had to live with the devastation caused by herself and the lives lost through her power. Trying to blend into the scenery is not an option as a price is put on her head & time after time she is hunted by those loyal to the Seelie Queen, those who would use her to destroy the world in the name of power & revenge. When one attempt at capture lands her straight back into the hands of Eli & the ‘Dark Dwellers’, Ember is certain she is about to be handed over to the other side – the Unseelie King – used again as a pawn or a weapon…. Will she ever catch a break? But hope shines through as her feelings for Eli deepen and she begins to train in an effort to defend herself… but true to form, nothing ever goes right for Ember as some shocking truths are revealed, the enemy gain the upper hand and Ember falls into the hands of someone she truly had never wanted to cross paths with… things are looking quite bleak for our heroine when not only is her life at stake but also her heart.
So yeah, I LOVED this! I just want to gush about it but I will refrain and try to give you all a non spoilery review. If book one was all about the relationships, sexual tension & super hotness, book two is the reveal book….. but also filled with sexual tension & hotness :D I loved the progression in both the characters & storyline – Ember is coming into her own even though at the beginning she was just wounded by the devastation she had caused, she felt like she couldn’t go on until a pep talk from Cooper gave her the reason to fight, to fight in the name of those who died when she was forced to use her powers… and she will. It was nice to see her get some of her determination back. I loved the training she gets, both from friends & unexpected sources, she needed it, we need to see that she is getting a handle on herself. I always love the time she has with Eli because there is always some sexual tension in a love/hate kind of way and I LOVE that, I both loved & hated the direction their relationship went but dayyuumn it makes for good reading. I’m not even worried about Torin, to be honest, I don’t even know if I trust him, I like that she has options but I’m definitely team Eli.
The storyline was amazing! The pacing was perfect too as we share Embers adventure, I like it when a character is just as unaware of their history, what they’re capable of & who they really are, as the reader because I like to share the reactions, it helps connect to the character. This was a big eye opener in every sense of the word and a lot of skeletons are about to be revealed as it seems everyone is keeping something from her. It’s really hard for her trust in the first place but after this I’ll be surprised if she ever trusts again. Don’t think that it’s all secrets though, there is still plenty of action, lots of fights, being chased & attacked and as I said, the enemy do gain the upper hand but for how long? that was nicely spaced with a bit of romance which is always welcome, especially the super charged, super hot but also sweet forest scene which I loved! and I really enjoyed her time at her new home but altogether it was just wow! I can’t even describe it without giving something away…. So be prepared for more action, more adventure, more secrets, more lies but a good few answers to the questions about Ember & those around her. We even get more creatures and venture into the Otherworld so yeah, be prepared to have you world rocked along with Ember and oh, the ending….. so frustrating but as a good book always should….. it leaves you wanting more. 5*s

So when I finished the last book I realized my big colossal mistake. I read the Collector Series first... Yup...

I realize later on I made a bigger mistake not reading this series first before The Collector Series.

Brycin' s powers come to light (literally) by creating an Electrical storm that destroyed Seattle which kills hundreds and lives thousands without homes. Brycin is left with the guilt even if her powers were used against her will.

Her continued journey is a long one but its one that will have you hanging on every word including your seat to know what happens next.

Im in love with stacey's novels and will continue to keep buying her books and stalking her on social media because I need to stay up to date on her work.

please read, you wont regret it!

I was a little worried at the beginning of this book, but I shouldn't have been. Once the story takes off, it's full speed ahead. My favorite things about this book were all of the new characters introduced and of course, Ember and Eli. Fire in the Darkness was considerably better than the first book in the series. I can't wait to find out what happens in the third book!

-Full review to come but this book somehow managed to be even better than the first! The twists and turns you expect from Stacey became vertical leaps in this book - truly beyond comprehension what she has created.- Full review is done. Read on my friends....

I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Fire in the Darkness is the second book in the Darkness series by Stacey Marie Brown. This is one of the most intense, amazing, page-flying, heart pounding, heart breaking books I have ever read. I liked the first book a lot and this one I loved!

In this book we again have Eli and Ember and Torin. We see and meet more of Eli's family and also more of Torin and his world. And we meet the one called "Lars". The rest of the usual cast of characters are around plus a few new ones just to make this book even more interesting!

The revelations in this book just kept coming. You think you know one thing - and you do - but you don't know all of it or what it means. Once you get all the information you realize that she has done it again - zigged instead of zagged or turned right down Left-only one-way street. And sometimes, man sometimes she took a freaking vertical leap! Only the best authors can take a basic plot twist and spin it into something that BLOWS YOUR MIND while still maintaining the integrity and the continuity of the story. It was amazing to me how she kept a wonderful fast-paced plot moving!

Any more would spoil the wonderful discovery of this second book in the series but really, I can't stress enough, how fantastic this series is. One of a few I have EVER read that can not only keep me guessing but surprise me and keep surprising me. Consistently inconsistent with stunning moves and gripping words - a story that sticks with you and weeks later, has you suddenly wondering "Is that what she meant when...."

If it were possible to add extra stars I don't even think 10 STARS would be enough!

My final thought and NEW FAVORITE EXPRESSION EVER - "Holy crap on ash bark!"

This series just blows my mind. You guys all remember how much I LOVED Darkness of Light, and Fire in the Darkness delivered just as much as the first book. I could not put it down. it kept me guessing right up until the end, and I think I actually gasped out loud a few times while reading.

Ember is awesome in Fire in the Darkness. She has this amazing dry sense of humor. She just deadpans these great one liners and she is constantly cracking me up. I love watching her zing Eli over and over again. But even though she is all fierce and kick butt and can totally hold her own, we get to see so many different sides to her. We see some of her darker Demon side, as well as a more vulnerable and dare I say it-softer side.

I was a little nervous when the book first started that we wouldn’t see much of Eli this time around. The book starts off a little after the first book left off, with Ember on the run from the Seelie Queen after she finally found out what she was. But never fear, soon enough Eli and his gang show up. Eli puts up a big front about doing what he needs to for his family and how everything was an act for him, but you can see right through him. I loved watching him and Ember interact. The way they bantered and pushed each others buttons was so funny, and so clearly filled with URST. And when he showed up in her dreamscape and didn’t like Torin, I squee-ed like a little girl.

But Eli isn’t the only guy in Fire in the Darkness. I have to say, I didn’t see the whole Lars thing coming! But that is the beauty of the darkness series. It keeps you on your toes. You won’t be able to put this book down. This is quickly turning out to be one of my favorite paranormal series, not just of the year, but of all time. There are so many new surprises in this book, I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone, so you will just have to experience the magic of Fire in the Darkness for yourself.

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

While I enjoyed Darkness of Light, the first book in the Darkness series by Stacey Marie Brown, it didn’t stand out to me as particularly exciting up until the end. And what an ending! Picking up after a small time jump, Darkness of Night doesn’t waste any time before kicking the action, world-building, and romance up a notch. And it just gets better from there.

I love Ember as a character and I feel like she really came into her own in this book. What can I say? I like a main character who’s a bit of a bitch! She’s been through a ton of shit, but she only uses that hardship to make her stronger. I like that she’s always holds her own and does what she thinks is right, no matter what. In addition to Ember, we also get to know Eli a lot better (wink, wink) and meet some fun new characters.

Book two spends a lot of time fleshing out the paranormal aspect of the story, which I thought was understandably, though disappointingly, lacking from book one. We find out a lot more about the Otherworld, the Dark Dwellers, and Ember’s mysterious powers. Most of the dangling threads from book one are addressed, only to leave even more burning questions on their wake. Like book one, book two has a hell of an ending with an awesome, potentially game changing twist thrown in at the end. Needless to say, book three can’t come out soon enough!

I guess it was okay, I don't tolerate angsty teenagers anymore.

PLUS I think that Ember needs a dicyionnary on the word cheating, the gril is basically two timing if not THREE-timing them... just EEEWww

No! the drama is not my thing anymore. Her believing everything and everyone besides the one that matters?? yeah nuh thanks.

DNF at 59%

This book is just more of the same of what happened in the first book. Same shit, same obnoxious characters, different location.

Ember never does anything, things always just happen to her. She's immature and dangerously naive. When I stopped reading at the 59% mark, she never once willingly tried to use the immense powers that she knows she has. She also only thinks with her libido, which would be fine if it weren't for the fact that her love interest is just as frustrating as she is. Eli treats her like an object to be used for his amusement. He flirts with her and tries to seduce her one minute, then the next minute he's either insulting her or ignoring her. And yet I'm supposed to believe that he cares about her and is starting to "claim her as part of the pack"? At one point Eli told Ember he didn't know if he should slap her for being naive or for being an idiot. The MMC saying that to the FMC is a major turnoff.

The author seems to have an aversion for using contractions for some reason. It's never "won't" or "can't," it's "will not" or "can not" which gets irritating very quickly.

I tried giving this book a chance because I had hopes that certain elements of the first book would improve in the second but I was wrong.

Fantastic, as I've come to realise all of Stacey's books are. The action, twists and turns to the story, the questions and answers and more questions, and Cal and Simmons are just a few of the things I enjoyed.

I would like to thank the author for offering me an ARC copy of Fire in the Darkness in exchange for an honest review. I was so excited to get the chance to jump back into Ember’s (and of course Eli’s) world!

I was so in love with book one, Darkness of Light (which if you haven’t read this review may contain spoilers, and you should start there before continuing), I didn’t know if I could survive the wait for the answer to the cliffhanger and what was going to happen to Ember and her friends… but I made it, and the wait was well worth it.

Since I loved Darkness of Light so much, I wasn’t sure the next book would live up to my expectations (it can happen with some series books), but Ms. Brown did not disappoint me one bit and I loved book two just as much as the first. Fire in the Darkness picks up where we left off with Ember trying to survive the destruction of Seattle while running from the Seelie Queen, the Dark Dwellers, and her own guilt…. I loved that it jumped right back into the action and just kept going. The pacing was great, and I didn’t feel like there was a slow build at the beginning, I got to jump right back into Ember’s story and immediately got sucked in to the point that I never wanted to set it down.

I managed to fall even more in love with Ember and she remains to be one of my favorite YA heroines. She’s strong, smart, and follows her instincts… but is still capable of making mistakes which gives her room to learn and grow, and makes her seem more like a real person. I once again loved her internal dialogue… and of course every second of her interactions with Eli **swoon** As usual there was sarcasm, sassiness, and even more tension. I loved every second of it. I once again fell so hard for Eli, that I don’t think he can ever lose his spot as my top book boyfriend…. especially when he’s doing what’s natural to him and being a complete bad ass.

One of my favorite things about this series is that it constantly keeps me guessing, and usually manages to throw me off (there were two huge new characters in particular that threw me for a loop, but you’ll have to read it to find out who because I don’t want to spoil a moment of the excitement)! I will warn that once again Ms. Brown leaves us with another cliffhanger and the suspense is going to kill me until I can get my hands on book three. My only problem with the book is that I loved it so much I can’t figure out what to read next because I keep thinking about Ember and what’s going to happen next.

I would recommend this series to anyone who loves Paranormal Romance with a unique twist on the usual fey and demon storyline. Stacey Marie Brown has created an amazing world that is so easy to jump right into.

This is the sequel to one of my favorite books of 2013, Darkness of Light. This was another book that cause me a total book hangover. I am totally addicted to Eli. As soon as I finished book one, I knew KNEW I had to read this book. It was like I pushed everything aside and had to get to this book. I had to know what happened next. Rush to the front of the line, get me that book!! Oh OH oh Oh oh !! SO excited so excited so excited!

Okay, back to the book. Sometimes I wanna slap Eli on the back of the head, or knock their heads together until they see how much they want each other. How much they belong together. But most of the time I'm salivating at the sexual tension between the two. It's just enough to frustrate you, but they give in enough to leave you dying for more.Or if you're like me, obsessing. Dying for that moment when everything works out how you want. Cause it's got to work out that way....right!?!? No way around it. It has to. I need it to pleaaaaaase. Let it happen.

Just when I think it's going to work out how I want it to.. smack to the face. no! What if I give a sad face and beg nicely??!! DO you think Stacey will let Eli and Ember FINALLY be together?

I didn't think so either. Where's the fun in that anyway. .. Back to the book. There is so much going on. His blood makes her part Dark Dweller. Torin is using her. Sexual tension. But Torin loves her. Lorcen. West. Sexual tension. Her mom. The queen. Her friends. Sexual tension. The King. Sex. New Fae are introduced. Sexual tension. More details of her race's past. Sexual tension. Feel what I'm layin' down? It's everywhere and you know what? I'm lovin' every freaking minute of it. But I'm so confused about Torin. I want to like him, but did he betray her? And Eli- why isn't he opening up and being honest. I am so confused ...what's going on!?!?! OOOHHH THE HORROR!!! I'm dying waiting for the next book! Dying!! DO you hear me!!!

I so totes loved this. It's a fast pace, mind screwing, sucking you in and you don't want to find your way out type of book. You need to read it. Believe me you WILL NOT be let down. I am so obsessed I am pretty sure I need EOA ( Eli Obsessed Anonymous) or DSA (Darkness Series Anonymous). I give it 5 kick ass, book obsessed stars.
