Stacey Marie Brown is a lover of hot fictional bad boys and sarcastic heroines who kick butt. She also enjoys books, travel, TV shows, hiking, writing, design, and archery. Stacey swears she is part gypsy, being lucky enough to live and travel all over the world.
“She was dead and I not only hated her, I resented her ever coming into my life.”
This novelette takes place during ‘Fire in the Darkness’ when Ember runs away from Lorcan and Eli in the forest, outside of Lars's property and goes missing. It is told from Eli's point of view and we get to see what happens to him during three years on Earth in Ember's absence. It was an insight into the mind of this complicated beast and felt almost like a privilege to delve into his very broken and fragmented mind. Thinking the one woman who has always been more than just ‘another woman’ is dead, Eli spends two years searching for her until he becomes a hopeless man. He has completely lost control, drowning in his own failures, forsaking his duties and family, and acquiescing wholly to his beastly disposition and primal Dark Dweller needs: brawling, violence, sex and drinking heavily to anesthetize the pain of losing Ember. He is careless, cruel, reckless, abusive, getting into trouble frequently with the law and his mental state isn’t entirely intact. Eli has lost most of his rationality during his time away from Ember and is far from civil and human which he is glad of and feels nothing but loathing, abhorrence and bitterness towards the one woman responsible for changing his very make-up and making him into something other than what he was always meant to be. Nobody can talk sense into him because he cannot see sense and focus…until one fateful day when he feels his body ignite with pain and fire and he knows the woman who destroyed him is not dead and follows his blood in her veins to track her down. I’m anticipating the next book greatly to see how this transitions and plays out between both Ember and Eli and whether they can overcome the blockades and bridges between them because right now it seems like it will be an epic task. I enjoyed this thoroughly and it made me want to read more POV’s from Eli – I think the author would have benefited by included some chapters from Eli throughout the books, as it really would have heightened them overall.
This Novelette also includes two POV scenes from Eli’s point of view: Chapter 5 in ‘Darkness of Light’ when he first meets Ember and Chapter 2 in ‘Fire in the Darkness’ when Cole, Cooper and Eli rescue (or kidnap) Ember from the Strighoul in that iron warehouse.
“I was split In a battle: one instinct wanted to destroy my weakness; the other wanted to wrap my arms around her and protect her from the world and things that would hurt her…how long before that thing was me.”
EEEEP! Hot damn, getting inside Eli's mind is such a guilty pleasure!! This sexy beast of a man has one hell of a temper, and when Ember suddenly disappeared after their steamy escape from reality, he was PISSED! Allowing his beast to take over as he scoured the land for her, a part of him was lost when he thought she was gone. For three years he dragged his way through his existence, screwing and drinking away his sorrows whenever the opportunity struck. When suddenly he was bowled over by the jolt that only Ember could bring to his body, he knew that very moment that she was alive. It was a huge treat getting to see his reaction to Ember's return from his POV, and seeing how angry and violent his thoughts are towards her has me so nervous for the next installment!! Will Eli be able to let go of his bitter feelings about Ember's bailing out to go into the Otherworld? Well, only time will tell, but I'm crossing my fingers we get some great smoking-hot make up sex out of it along the way, because we all know how awesome these two are together!!
Fabulous sneak peek into Eli's mind, and a must-read for fans of this addicting series!!
Thank you, Stacey Marie Brown, for this opportunity to bond with Eli! :D I was already a big Eli fan and now I've really fallen for him. Love getting into the guy's head and hanging out with the Dark Dweller dudes. Come on, what gal doesn't want to spend time with the guys? ;)
Finally we get to have Eli’s POV. I really like reading dual POV’s, I like reading each of the MC’s thoughts so I could understand and connect to them better. In this instance albeit short we were able to get a very quick read of Eli’s perspective after Ember left for the Otherworld. I just wish there could’ve been more of it. 😊
“This one . . . this one had been different from the beginning. I had hated her at first for it, trying to continue to deny my feelings for the Dae. That was no longer possible.”
I loved getting Eli's perspective here and it melts my heart to see just how smitten he is with Ember. My only wish it it was longer so I got more of this, but at the same time it's perfect so I can see what happens next in the main storyline.
I NEED MORE!!!!! That little piece of getting inside Eli's head was not enough! God, Dwellers of Darkness hurry up!!!!

This is a 10 to 15 minute read tops! It takes place right after what went down between Ember, Eli and Lorcan ( read both books to find out) .... No SERIOUSLY, TAKE YOUR ASS AND READ THEM NOW!!
And we get an inside to Eli's mind from that point on to right at the end of Fire in the Darkness!
I freaking looooooved it and that little teaser just made me relapse, IM OBSESSED! and I regret nothing!

Loved reading Eli's point of view from when he first laid eyes on Ember and the darkness that consumed him when he was apart from her. Thank you Stacey!!!! :)
Yes, Eli's pov was sooo good!!! It showcased the depth of his feelings & how Ember leaving & losing the connection wrecked him & how much anger he had for her along with the pain & suffering of the loss. I just wish that they would actually just get to the truth instead of the secrets & half truths. But that is very much how the fey do things so it's true to that world. I just wished it had been much longer. I can't wait for book 3!!!! Love love this series!!!
His personality/character and actions seem to constantly contradict each other. On one hand he feels this and believes this, but then does the opposite. Then, in the next chapter later he switches. I don't know if that is just his character or if it's a writing problem. If anything, this perspective short story made me think worse of him. Unfortunately, I don't really like his character and this just further solidified it.
Oh my god. You have no idea. This was fantastic. It was awesome to see what Eli was thinking and feeling. And it's a great help for us to kinda see where he's coming from and why he acts like he does. Oh man. Totally can't wait for the next book.
A little disappointed in this one. It was advertised as being a glimpse into what was going on with Eli while Ember was away but it really kind of skipped over all of that and focused mostly on when she got back. But it was nice to be inside his head and see how he really feels about everything.
I was really disappointed by this book. It could have been so much more. Instead we got 20 minutes of Eli explaining how he drank and screwed during the 3 years Ember was gone. I was expecting 3 years worth of content.
The best part was the 2 bonus chapters for Fire in Darkness at the end.
I read this series back in 2018 and fell in love with the characters. I never knew this novella existed until a few days ago and now that I've read it, I can definitely say these characters are still some of my favorites. It was nice to get Eli's perspective of some of the scenes from the first two books as well as his thoughts of what happened between book two and three. The only reason it's not a five out of five is because it doesn't focus much on the years between. It starts off towards the end of book two and then jumps to three years later. I feel like a chapter dedicated to each year would have been preferable. It would have provided more depth to Eli and how he changed during those years rather than just getting the before and after. However, I still enjoyed this novella and will probably now reread the series for the hundredth time.
I enjoyed looking at parts of this from Eli's perspective. He's smoking hot but a pain in the ass. I love alpha males and Eli is right up there with the best of them!!
Beast In The Darkness was the perfect fix for those of us waiting for the third book in the Darkness series to be released. It was a wild ride being inside Eli's head. It was a brief story but sufficient to give fans an understanding of how Eli's mind generally works, how the dynamics of his group are changing, and how he truly feels about Ember. Sigh... I can't wait for the next book. I'm loving this series!!!
Beast In The Darkness is a novelette that accompanies the Darkness series written by Stacey Marie Brown. The series includes the following books (as of November 2013). Beast In The Darkness should be read after Fire in the Darkness to avoid series spoilers. #1 Darkness of Light #2 Fire in the Darkness
I LOVE ELI! I have loved Eli from the moment he drove by on his bike and saved her from Weiss.
I LOVE EMBER! I have loved her (and laughed and cried and yelled with her) since I read the first word of the first book.
I think - no matter what has or will happen - Eli and Ember deserve happiness and that means they deserve to be together.
Now I'm scared. I don't know this Eli, this man controlled by darkness and despair. This broken man who has become more beast than man since he lost his way. Since he thought his heart died.
This world and the people (or beings or whoever) in it has had a hold on me since the first book. And I have felt the despair and the fear and even the joy with each as they have gone through it. But what happens now, between Eli and Ember? I am maybe starting to wonder a bit if there isn't too much between them now to overcome? Are there too many secrets? Did Eli lose too much of himself when he lost her?
I usually love reading events from the other main character’s POV because I like learning about their thoughts and feelings. However, I was a little disappointed by Eli’s inner dialogue. I find it adorable how he clearly loves a Ember so much, and it is totally understandable how distraught he was the last three years when she disappeared. I could sympathize with his agony and his fear that she was dead and gone for good. But, that was all Eli thought about. And that was what irked me. Yeah, it hurts that Ember is gone. But it’s been three years. You have to move on, do something, maybe try to avenge her death. Eli seemed too strong a character to spend three years of his life getting drunk sulking over a woman, starting fights that put himself and others in unnecessary danger, and losing respect with his Dark Dweller clan. I expected more from him.
I love Eli <3 And I loved his POV...It was good to hear his thoughts and it was nice to find out how he really felt and what's been going on in his head...And now I feel sorry for him because there is so much against him and Ember, so many secrets and lies and I just wonder how they will overcome them....But I hope they will overcome all the problems in the 3 book and finally will be together and loving each other and fighting together againts all the others who wants them apart....So fair warning Stacey Marie Brown, if Em and Eli will not end up together and have their HEA, me and lots and lots and lots of Eli and Ember fans will hunt you down :-) ;-) so it's better to give them their happily ever after and keep their fans satisfied and happy :-) ;-) <3
Wow.. I didn't really think I would need to read Eli's POV considering I just finished books 1 and 2 in the last couple of days, but I'm glad I did. I'm really excited for the next book being released this Thursday! By the conclusion of book 2, it was obvious by Eli's reaction to Embers return, that her time away had completely altered him or at the very least hardened him toward her. I'm really glad we were given a glimpse into the pain and heartache he went through in her absence. Can't wait!!
Oh my! Eli is beyond hot and to actually get to read his point of view is beyond amazing. I devoured this novelette and loved every sexy and demented second of it. If you are a fan of the series, this is a must read.
This novelette takes place during ‘Fire in the Darkness’ when Ember runs away from Lorcan and Eli in the forest, outside of Lars's property and goes missing. When Ember finds out about her tattoos purpose. (Vague but I don’t want to spoil the book for you). It also skips ahead three years and end where ‘FITD’ does.
We have followed Ember on her journey, but now it’s time to find out what has been happening with Eli why Ember was in the Otherworld trying to get her friends.
It was an insight into the mind of this complicated man and felt almost like prying into his very broken and fragmented mind. Thinking the one woman who has always been more than just ‘another woman’ or Dae is dead, Eli spends two years searching for her until it’s clear she is lost, he becomes a hopeless. He has completely lost control, forsaking his duties, drowning in his failures, and letting go to the Dark Dweller needs, violence, sex and drinking to dull the pain of losing Ember. He is cruel, reckless, getting into trouble frequently with the law. Eli has lost most of his rationality during his time away from Ember.
I really enjoyed getting inside Eli’s head, it is dark and dangerous just like him. I need more from his POV. This was a guilty pleasure of mine. I really hope that Eli and Ember are able to work things out as I think they are great together.
I love the 2 small bonus chapters of Eli’s POV. The struggle between his clan and Ember is something that can been seen clearly. I can’t wait to see what’s to come for them both. FYI I need more of Eli’s POV...
Book Review- Beast of the Darkness by Stacey Marie Brown
This novella is written from Eli’s point of view. Most of it occurs when Ember has disappeared into the Otherworld and he loses contact. He can no longer feel her. He thinks she is dead. The author gives a quick view of how he feels and what he goes through during that time. Then there is a jump where Eli has to rescue her in the warehouse. It is fun to read his thoughts and why he is doing what he is doing. I love the bickering between them. The author jumps to the scene in the police station when they first see each other. Ember is drawn to him and he figures out she is Dae. He instantly hates her. It is where everything starts. I like seeing things from his point of view and was disappointed that it only really carried snippets of those three times. I was hoping for more. I thought there would be more of a flow to the whole book. However as I said, it just jumped around to deleted chapters from the books. I liked reading them but nothing as I expected when I purchased the book. I give it a 3 out of 5.
Great short story/novellette into Eli’s head. Honestly, that was the best part. The one thing I will say is that I would have enjoyed a chapter of him actually searching for her. The story starts out after Ember goes, when he’s still injured, and then chapter 2 is three years later. We’re told what happens in those years, and while I understand they’re not exciting by any means, I would have loved a short bit of him looking far and wide for her, as he claimed to do. My second point, is he knows how the world works. Why not guess that she’s in the Otherworld, instead of assuming death. In those years, he’s with an OW, and I’m curious if she’ll pop up in book 3. All in all though, I really enjoyed his POV.
I really liked this entire series and didn't know about this novella until just recently. It's been long enough since I read the series that I could barely remember anything about it. Not the author's fault, I am just terrible at remembering things. I think it's really hard to write a novella, because you can't exactly fit an entire story in a few short pages. But if you are currently reading this series I think you would enjoy reading this between books 2 and 3. Fills in some gaps. I did like it but I just didn't like it as much as I liked the full books in the series.
