It was just a one-night stand; Elliot never thought it would ever turn into anything more. It’s a tale as old as head out to a club, find someone hot, and spend a fun night with someone you’ll never have to see again. Except Elliot can’t get the man with golden eyes out of his mind… and dreams dancing with fire aren’t the only thing Elliot is left with after their night together. He can’t deny it his body is changing in impossible ways, ways that mean his life will never again be the same. A fire has been ignited inside him, one he’ll do anything to protect. Even if that means confronting a dragon. The last thing in the world Valdis expects to see when he answers a knock at his door is the human he spent a single night with months ago… a human claiming Valdis is the father of his child. It shouldn’t be possible. Dragons don’t mate with humans and they certainly don’t sire children with them. Yet the proof stands there right before Valdis’s eyes, demanding answers Valdis never thought he’d have to give. They can’t be mates… But neither of them can deny the pull they feel toward each other. Neither of them can ignore the scalding heat whenever they touch. Maybe the impossible isn’t so impossible after all. Ignite is a 47,000-word mpreg novel sure to keep you warm at night, filled with fated mates and a HEA.
This was one of those books where I went into it thinking that I could guess exactly how the story would play out--only to discover all sorts of surprises at every step. Firstly, I thought that the way that Elliot experienced and handled his pregnancy was actually odd but oddly realistic too. It's only when he is very, very pregnant with no idea how to give birth or raise a child alone that he goes looking for his impregnater. I felt an immediate connection and empathy with Elliot. Valdis, on the other hand, begins as very arrogant and cold. He changes a great deal over the course of the book and it's very rewarding to see how much he grows as a person and a mate. I kept expecting that we would get the standard pregnancy and birthing stuff, with some fluffy newborn moments and maybe an epilogue--wrong! This was one of the few really realistic mpreg books I've seen, where the story doesn't just end with the birth. There are things that these guys need to work out, as well as a view of the exhausting work of a newborn. There were lots of other curveballs thrown into the story too, such as how a human even managed to get pregnant by a dragon. For those looking for lots of sexy scenes this will be a disappointment; it's much more about the emotions and growth of the couple. I have to say that, for such a short book, it felt fully developed, nothing was rushed and the characters were well developed. I think this is my favorite of Reegan's books so far!
A chance meeting of fate for these two strangers leads to the unraveling of ones destiny and the other finding a love he waited centuries to find when it was the least expected. These two were perfect for each other. I would love to see more from these two.
love story. After so much angst, confusion and uncertainty they were finally able to put it all behind them and enjoy their son and their love for each other
