For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction… especially when two strong-willed scientists collide.
Addison Monroe has dedicated her life to studying the Karuvar, striving to bridge the gap between their longevity and that of her fellows humans. Work has always been her focus, and she refuses to let love come before scientific achievement the way her mother once did.
But when she’s unable to place a life-sustaining implant in the first child born to human and Karuvar, Addison is forced to rely on the expertise of the most arrogant, infuriating Karuvar she’s ever met… who also happens to be her mate.
Kor’ven is no stranger to the pitfalls of Karuvar science, and he has spent his life trying to make up for the costly mistakes of the past. Once involved in a flagship project to manipulate Karuvar genes, he’s spent every waking hour trying to prove that the Karuvar’s greatest strength--their ability to adapt--may be slowly killing them.
The last thing he needs is the passionate, driven human scientist he so desperately wants to claim as his own.
The force between them is magnetic, and collision is inevitable. But with time running out, Addison is forced to make a desperate choice between the future of Karuvar and humans… and her future with Kor’ven.
Kor'ven is the second novel in the Warriors of the Karuvar sci-fi romance series. It can be read as a standalone, but it's recommended you read the first book, Verkiir, for the full experience.
Alana Serra and Juno Wells wrote a detailed romance book filled with possibilities of other species needing us and we needing them. I have yet to discover a single book written by Juno Wells that I did not love. Each is unique. In this one, Alana and Juno must have spent a good bit of time learning about genetics and transcription errors. I am always amazed at the effort put into making her books come alive and feel realistic. Occasionally Juno will pass me an ARC. She did this time, too, But I had already pre-ordered the book. I have yet to read book #1 (hint hint).
The story opens with Head Engineer for the Karuvar peoples, Kor'ven, working feverishly to figure out what is wrong with their implant technology. The implant technology is necessary for the continuation of their species, even with the mating currently going on with Earth mates. No Karuvar couple has conceived a child in more than 20 years without being mated to someone from Earth. They are most fortunate to have found that the people from Earth are compatible, but something is still not right. He barely takes time to eat or sleep. But he is not ready to go to their leader, Drol'gan, until he has hard evidence. He is stationed on Waystation Selene.
His Earth counterpart is Addison Monroe on Waystation Helios. Neither one of them wants the complications of a mate. Addison is personally invested in finding the problem and fixing it, as her best friend Megan found her mate with the First Guardian Verkir an they have an infant, Vazik, who should be getting his implant. She is extremely worried about the implant not working or causing problems with her best friend's baby. She injected the tiny implant in the baby's arm, but it did not work. Addison briefly spoke with Kor'ven about the problem, and came away with the impression that he is a complete jerk.
Kor'ven was told to join Addison on Waystation Helios. He hoped his stay would be very brief. He had little confidence in the competence of their Chief Science officer, but he knew that once he stepped onto Waystation Helios nothing would ever be the same.
The tension, the drive to fix the problem(s), terrorists, and more, until we finally get our HEA. What a superb adventure and story to treasure... and read again. Thank you Alana and Juno!
This second story in this series stands alone well, and is a solid done in one that continues some wonderful and interesting world building, and suggests the next challenge in store for this society.
Addison was a delightful secondary character in the previous story, so I was thrilled to find her paired with Kor'ven. These are two characters who, for very different reasons, are not looking for love, much less love at first sight. Seeing two interesting, intelligent people who are not driven to find a counterpart to complete them find true love was a delightful journey.
The book was very well written and holds your attention through out the story. It's just as great as the the first one and loved that characters from the previous book are carried in to this one? It has everything you need in a romance book with awesome characters and steamy love scenes? Highly recommended and keep them coming.
I like how perfect genetically compatible doesn't me Insta love. I liked how they argued, reorganized each others spaces, and worked together. While doing this they got to know each other. Even after a little misunderstanding they even fell in love. It was kind of cute.
Kor’ven was the Head Engineer of the Earth Waystation Selene. He had been concerned that Karuvar couples had been unable to conceive children for the past two decades, and he believed it had something to do with their having tampered with their implants beyond safe levels. But he needed data to prove his theory and convince his people. Kor’ven had no patience for the romantic part of mating; he was interested solely in scientific data. After all, numbers never lied, right?
Addison Monroe had a different opinion of science. She believed also in a little touch of magic to make the science “pop”! The Matchmaker program was a good example. The algorithms scanned databases for a match . . . but the magic made it come together! Today she would take it a step further. Vazik was the first kit born from a human mother and was getting his implant. Addison worked carefully on it because it had to succeed for Vazik to thrive and adapt to his world. It would definitely impact the future of the species, so it was critical to everyone. But with reporters and a crowd watching, something went wrong and the implant failed! After hours with no fix in sight, Addison agreed to work with the Karuvar scientist recommended by Verkiir. What could be keeping the implant from functioning? Is there something they can do to correct this? And can the two stubborn, strong scientists find a way to work together?
This was a well written story with a great story line! The author seemed to flawlessly show the reader what kind of person each character was. It was almost as if the reader knew each personally, with all their quirks and mannerisms. The two scientists were drawn to each other, actually mates; yet they clashed, while both were dedicated wholeheartedly to helping their people. It was an excellent story that I highly recommend!
I really enjoy this series. Once I start these books, I can't put them down until I am finished. This story is the second in the series of Warriors of the Karuvar. They can be read as stand-alone novels. However, they are best enjoyed read in order and one after the other. This story is Dr. Addison Monroe's. We met her in Meg's story, Verkiir: Warriors of Karuvar. In Addi's story, we have a hero that is a scientist and buff. The hero, Kor'ven, is skeptical of Addison being his mate. He has insider information about the implants and their infallibility. We see the regard that the Karuvar place on their master code. We also get Dr. Addison's perspective on her work and beliefs. The Freedom Fighters also make an appearance. I can't wait till the next book to see what happens with our little group.
I enjoyed this one as much as the first even if I'm still left a little confused about some parts like for instance Adisson took off and altered her implant to prove it would be successful but it wasn't right??? I mean he found her dying in her apartment it was my interpretation that he had reset her implant back to the original code and then she was fine but then they went on acting like she was a success. Also if rebooting the implant severed their mating how were they able to still have a child together? I thought the whole purpose behind the implants were to help human and Karuvar resonate and that made them able to have babies and what not so maybe I'm just reading too much into it but it really confused me a lot. It was still a good read and I wouldn't let that effect my review so I recommend anyone to check it out
ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest! Addison dedicated her life in studying the Karuvar. When she is faced w/ difficulties, she will not give up. Even if she has to ask for help from the most infuriating of them all, Kor’ven. Kor’ven wants to help. After all, it affects the future of all of his people. However, why does she have to be so frustrating + so fascinating at the same time. He does not need the distraction right now. He has more important things to do/ Fate cannot be denied. Soon enough, Addison + Kor’ve will learn that you cannot escape fate. Nice ending!
I did like this book but I do have to say, I wanted to nut punch the hero multiple times for his arrogance. Alpha males are stubborn and sometimes idiots (even the non warrior, nerdy types) but Kor'ven need to be slapped upside his head a time or two. I felt bad for the way he treated Addison. After finding out why Kor'ven refused to believe that they were mates, it did make his actions a little more understandable but still Grr... When they finally did hook up it was super smexy, who knew scientists could be so yummy? *grins* All in all, a solid 4 star read but I do recommend that you read the prior book to learn about the history of the implants.
I loved this book the chemistry between Addison and kor'ven is so hot I couldn't wait for them to get together, at first kor'ven thought Addison was not up to his standards and kept dismissing her but Addison fought back and proved him wrong ( got to love a strong woman ) they had to put aside there differences and work together to fix the problems with these implants so there is a future for everyone, there are dangers all around them and they must learn to trust each other to make it through, I would recommend this book to everyone. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book
Kor’ven and Addison Monroe are both smart and very good at what they do scientist and they want to help there future people humans and Karuvar's but they are both pig headed and lonely and they do miscommunication and they are both each others mate lol so this is a funny hot and sexy story of one stubborn human and Kurvuvar but they do finally come together or do they after so much frustrating problems so good story line and book I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. Michelle
This book was okay, but not my favorite. I don't really like where it keeps being harped on that there's such a difference between the life spans of the two species, because it puts a really sad, dark taint on the HEAs of other couples, and that bothers me. The characters were okay, and the story was interesting enough. But I would really prefer for there to either be a cure found where they all have the same life span, or for it to stop being mentioned so much so it doesn't keep feeling like it's ruining the other HEAs. I was gifted a copy.
When the first of many implants goes wrong she must work with another. though he is brash and downright prickly they wage war till it's pointed out they must work together or they will be removed. In their fight to keep form lusting after on another they find their is a threat to them all, one more deadly than the problem at hand. They must race against a clock before someone can bring them all down. Great story, full of intense situations and heartfelt scenes. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy for an honest receive. Can't wait to see what these authors write next.
Wow the feeling and the sparks that come off these two! I could not put it down I just had to know what would happen with these two strong willed scientists as they fought to help their peoples . This is Addison Monroe and Kor’ven's story and how they had to find a way to find out what has gone wrong with the Karuvar genes. There is villians ,friends and a bond that will be broken. I recommend this book, it is the second in the Warriors of Karuvar series
Kor’ven and Addison have a similar mission. They need to work together to resolve the problems but have some ego issues to deal with first. These two are a lot alike which makes it harder for them in some ways. They both are very smart and focused. I liked watching them together. They have this connection but don't really communicate well. They heal a lot of each other's pain and bring hope for a better future.
She is a scientist who is determined to dedicate her life to the karuvar. She is have difficulties and having trouble with them Here comes an alpha male karuvar who wants to help. They clash with each other. Part of that isattraction. This is exciting, fun, suspenseful and very enjoyable to read. I recommend it. I was given a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Another great addition to the Warriors of the Karuvar series. This book had it all drama, mystery, intrigue, and of course steamy romance. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no minority compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
Kor'ven and Addison must work together to solve a major problem. Issue is that he's condescending and doesn't trust that Addison is smart enough or good enough at her job.
Ugh, I want to smack him lots of times during this book, especially after he leaves her hanging, more than once. Luckily, he manages to redeem himself.
Another great novel. I loved the characters and the conflict between them. It’s a true love story with interesting plot with twists and turns. The hero and heroine have both personal and external conflicts to resolve before finding true bliss. Looking for to the next installment!
Another hit in a wonderful series. What an exciting, action-packed story. Love the romance, drama and mystery. I would highly recommend it to everyone, I know you will love it too. I voluntarily read an advance review copy of this book.
I enjoyed this book very much except for one part near the end that made me sad and I wish the authors had resolved in a happy way instead of leaving it hanging. Even so it's definitely a very good story. ***I decided to review an ARC of this book.***
Kor'ven read as an almost not romance. The sci-fi underpinnings were present, yet the chemistry between the two protagonists was missing until much later.
An enjoyable read and a fresh approach. No spoilers. Read for yourself.
The characters are cantankerous & stubborn. This causes problems, especially since they’re fated mates. It takes dedication & violent threats, but they work it out.
Good but, I don’t think I will read the next one. I find myself skimming through some of the story and I’m not sure why. The story is well written, but fails to have me grasping every word...
This a very decent series, though not my favorite. It's fast pace and keeps you interested. A bit predictable. I would recommend if you like sci-fi romance in general.
