Nothing particularly wrong with this, but for some reason it's failing to hold my interest. I love the heroine a lot, but I'm not feeling enough excitement over the story to continue right now. Maybe I'll pick this back up later if the mood strikes me.

This book was just not for me. Normally I love anything witchy but this book was just so boring and an absolute chore to read. I really tried to like it but sadly it wasn’t meant to be. This and the rest of the series are on their way to the donation pile for someone to hopefully enjoy more than I did!

Donna Grant never ceases to amaze me! Started this new series after making my way slowly through her Dark World series this past year and I am not disappointed in this new group of characters to fall in love with! Badass women warriors?! What more could one want? 🖤⚔️

Donna Grant has done something quite new and unique with this series. While we’ve seen a lot of Paranormal Romance and some Contemporary Romance from her, she’s gone for a different route with The Kindred series. This new series is a medieval romance with a little bit of a paranormal twist. However, what is unique about this series is that the main characters aren’t supernatural, their enemies are.

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a medieval romance, especially one with some paranormal aspects in it so I was eager to try this series. Grant has always been good with historical settings, but it did take me a while to get into this book. Maybe it was the setting or the writing style, but it did require some time to adjust to.

Another interesting thing about this series is also the characters. The heroine, Leoma, is slightly different than Grant’s other heroines and although I can easily explain why, I think part of what makes this book enjoyable is if you discover this for yourself, especially if you’re a Grant fan. You can tell that she tried hard to deliver something different for her readers and I’m glad she decided to release this book. I look forward to jumping back into this world with the next book in the series.

Eversong is the first full-length book in the Kindred series by Donna Grant. In this book, we have Leoma a brave hunter who is after the Coven and Braith a man who seeks revenge from the Coven. They join forces to end the witches and during their quest they manage to fall in love. Before you begin this book keep in mind that is set around the 14th century. If you don't like that or witches, hunters and other stuff that come with them don't try to read the book. The main villain of the series is going to be the witches. If you do like this stuff prepare for a journey. The story seemed simple at first, but new characters were introduced and we had some revelations that made the book better than just good. I hope we will see more of Braith and Leoma in the upcoming books because not only were they a great couple, but they also have to take care of a couple of things. The next book will future a new couple and I don't remember if we have met them in this book, but I hope they will be from Leoma's clan.

I am definitely looking forward to the next book. We saw some secondary characters in this book that share their point of view with us and they were very interesting. I don't know if they are going to get their own book, but I hope they will at least appear in the series until it ends or they die (I hope they won't die and they will live happily ever after. Amir man, I am looking at you and your lady). I liked the pace of the story, but I couldn't help but feel like the wording of the characters was not appropriate for the time the book was set. It felt too modern time-y for me. I don't read many books like that and it might be just me, but I can't get it out of my head and that's one of the reasons I cannot give a higher rating to the book.

The first book in The Kindred series is a fascinating and sensational paranormal romance! Leoma and Braith are strong, bold characters that stand out as true heroes as they go up against a coven of witches. The romance between the two is sweet with lots of electrical chemistry flowing between them and the passion is hot but this relationship starts off with a knock out and some dangerous, high tension events and just keeps getting more interesting from there. Readers can easily relate to the characters since they can empathize with their motivations and how they came to be in the situation they are in with some witty dialogue and providing a few chuckles.

Surprising twists and a host of wonderfully intriguing characters populate this story and the good versus evil plot that this series revolves around is full of suspense, thrills and explosive tension throughout this fast paced story which keeps readers on the edge of their seats and the suspense building currents that flow throughout guarantee that the readers can’t put this book down. The magical battles and the danger while spectacular is believable which makes it easy for the readers to get caught up in the story and since the author has once again used her brilliant talent to bring a vivid and fascinating world to life, readers can picture each and every scene as if they are taking part in this highly enjoyable romance.

This is a medieval fantasy romance. Leoma is very skilled Hunter that has a magic infused sword that allows her to kill witches, even though she is human. Braith is a knight who's life has been dedicated to leading armies and winning wars. They cross paths as they are both seeking revenge against the same person - Leoma knows she is a witch and Braith does not. They learn to trust each other, fight together, and ultimately fall in love with each other.

Now going back to the world of this story, there are witches and some are good while some are not. The evil ones belong to The Coven and crusade against other witches to force them to join their cause. There is a sanctuary lead by a witch and her lover who have dedicated themselves to being a safe haven and train humans to kill members of The Coven. Not only does Braith seek revenge against a witch, it turns out she was inserted into his life strategically because the leaders of The Coven need Braith for another prophecy.

Okay, so, at the ends of the day this seems a little vague and that's also how it read. It was a pretty solid premise but I think it really lacked in story and world building. I loved Leoma; I think she was an incredibly strong and fierce woman and I think Braith was the perfect counterpart to her. I also think the story of this sanctuary, and The Coven (and the warlocks that come in at the end) all have the potential to be a really great story. But there are still a lot of missing parts to the whole and a lot left me in the dark. At parts it was much more focused on Leoma and Braith, which I'm not complaining about, and other times other characters were getting introduced. So it did not really flow in a way that left a clear picture.

It's not bad, but I do not know if I will continue on to learn more about this world and other characters.

Eversong by Donna Grant is the First Book in "The Kindred" series. This is the story of Leoma and Braith. Wow... Where to even start. This was just so exciting and a great start to what is going to be such a good series. This is a period storyline around the 14 Century that deals with Good Witches, Bad Wiitches, warlocks and of course those who are hunting them. Leoma only focus from a early ages was to wipe out the evil witches. Leoma is a strong fighting hunter who stands out but follows what she knows is best. Braith was a warrior too but had planned on not fighting again and look toward family with his young ward. But that was changed when his ward was lost to him...revenge became his new quest. That when he meets Leoma who he thinks can help him find his revenge and maybe more along the way.
Really enjoyed their story!!

This was a great first book in the series. I love the strength of the female leads in this book.

Leoma is a witch hunter. Well she hunts those that wish to cause harm to others with their powers. She is strong, fierce and smart. Upon running into Braith we see instant attraction and hope. Hope that someone will understand her and still wish to be with her.

Braith gives her this and more. He shows her respect as well. He listens and takes her advice. Braith has seen war. He has had to deal with blood on his hands and now he wants to live in peace. Only the coven has need of him and they will do anything to get him in their clutches. He is a wonderful character. He is strong and kind. But also fierce and battle. He listened to Leoma and fell in love with her strength and character. They fought side by side to protect others and him.

I loved how it wasn’t revealed until the end why the coven wanted Bratih. This kept us wondering and more in the moment. Feeling the emotions and fear from Leoma and Braith. I liked the discovery we saw Leoma have about male warlocks being out there and how they helped her.

the story was filled with danger and intrigue. We also had some sizzling attraction between Braith and Leoma. An attraction that went further but also bound them together. The fight to keep Braith from the coven and figure out what the coven is up to is nailbiting.

the detail is wonderful, plot intriguing and characters have you love them from the beginning. The coven you just don’t like and root for them to be beaten. The ending was great and love who it implies there is more to come but also if one doesn’t, the story for doesn’t feel it needs more explanation only that the characters have more adventure to come.

A wonderfully intriguing story that will have you on your toes and wanting more.

As their relationship grows, sparks fly and love begins. We meet Witch Hunters and new members of this world. Will they both accomplish what they have to? Can’t wait for the next book!

Leoma is a witch hunter wanting revenge for the death of her best friend. She was found at a young age and trained by her mentor and her husband. Leoma isn’t about to give up what the witches are up to either. Braith is a knight who became an earl. He’s known nothing but fighting his entire life. Braith is coming after the woman who killed his ward and heir. When Leoma and Braith’s paths cross, they just may find something other than revenge. They’ll discover that together each will find their own Eversong.

Eversong is the first book in Donna Grant’s Kindred series. She takes two people set on revenge against the same woman. A woman raised knowing of magical beings and magic and as a fighter against, especially witches. She’ll have feelings she never had before. He’s been a warrior all his life and thought he had put that world behind him until a woman shows up on his lands and causes havoc. He’ll fall back into his old life to get revenge on that woman who destroyed his life. When these two characters meet going after the same person. Protective instincts kick in for both and a strong attraction that they may not be able to resist. Trust will have to be earned. A man learns that things aren’t as they seem. Eversong has humans and witches in a battle of good and evil. Who will come out on top? Along the way secrets are revealed and love grows. Witches want power and will do anything to get it. A small group of people are trying to stop them. Donna Grant’s Kindred series gets a powerful start with this book. Eversong has dangerous situations, strong attractions, magic mixed with some surprises. A story that will keep the reader wondering why the witches want the hero. Who are the mysterious group who are looking for alliances? A reissue with a new look but the first time this author has read the series and highly recommend that if you’re a fan of Donna Grant or are wanting to become a fan then this would be a great read to get into this author.

This book took me on a thrill ride of epic proportions. It thrills me to no end that Ms. Grant has started another Medieval paranormal series. Although there hasn't been a book she has written that I don't absolutely love with every cell of my body, this series will be in my all-time favorites (3#) and reread pile.

You can feel the chemistry for the first time Leoma and Braith meet. Sparks fly! This story will hypnotize you and you won't realize where the last 5 hours went. The story is fast paced and completely enthralling.

Eversong: The Kindred by Donna Grant

While I love steamy romances that leave me fanning myself or full on swooning, one book element that I’m addicted to is the good triumphing over evil. It’s one of the elements that leave me constantly coming back for more when it comes to reading. When it comes to good triumphing over evil, this book did not disappoint. With a coven of evil witches after more power, they are going about it in not so “kosher” ways to get that power. Both Leoma and Braith are bent on revenge for the wrongful deaths of ones dear to them caused by a witch in the coven. Who knew going after a common enemy would lead you to your best team mate along with your love for life?
I really enjoyed that Leoma and Braith are both fighters/warriors. Braith being a knight his whole life. Leoma taken off the streets and vigorously trained by Edra and Radnar. Their fights and battles side by side was quite impressive. Their first battle in the grove against the same witch they were after was awesome beyond belief. It was great reading about them taking Brigitta down. I love how Leoma can hold her own in a fight whether it is against powerful witches or knights twice her size. Braith came with his own surprises up his sleeves too. How he killed the elder witch Eleanor with the power of the skull was dark, morbid, and utterly vivid. So cool. I love my fighter/warrior couples.
Like all couples, they had their love scenes. The first love scene was very nicely written. While I enjoy some hardcore, steamy raunchy-ness; this one was very tastefully done. While Braith had his fair share of one night stands, this was Leoma’s first time. Despite his experience, he showed Leoma not only love but a tremendous amount of gentleness and patience. It was a treat to admire and read some background about Leoma’s tattoos through Braith’s eyes before he proceeded to take her virginity.
While it was great admiring the scoreboard of several deaths against the coven, Braith and Leoma realize they still have a bigger battle ahead of them with the coven. Another cherry on top, best ending ever. Tired and after cleaning up after the big showdown with elder witches, they finally put it all on the table of their feelings for each other and then the implied love scene that followed.
One awesome fighter/warrior couple, awesome battle scenes, tastefully written love scenes and the best ever of good triumphing over evil. This is my first book by Donna Grant and as far as first impressions go, why the heck did I not hear about her sooner?! The world of witches, warlocks, knights and magic was awesome and I world I would love to get lost in. In short the word of this book is AWESOME! I highly recommend this book and I anxiously await the next book in the series.

First off, this book was literally magically delicious! When I found this author’s work over the summer at my local library, I loved how she spun paranormal fantasy and immersed myself in her world of Dragon Kings. From then, I knew I would read everything I could get my hands on. Eversong blew magic across my ipad as soon as it landed and simply swept me away from the first page.

The author brings what I consider “old school” wizardry roaring back to the literary world in this book. From magic swords to Nordic symbols to blood magic to a love story between a Hunter and the chosen Warden of the Blood Skull, I found myself lost in the imagery, the setting and the plot of “good triumphing over evil, even if it means death.” Leoma, a Hunter, reminded me of Wonder Woman’s innate power. A great warrior from birth but abandoned and lost as a child, Leoma is taken in by those who would form the Hunters. Enduring years of training in order to come into her own as a force to be reckoned with in battle, Leoma’s revenge journey leads her to more than she bargained for when she set out. That said, I think Leoma has some hidden secrets I can’t wait to read about in the next book. At least I'm hoping ..ha!

Her fierce warrior qualities and her deep loyalty to her cause ensnares a hero/warrior in his own right, Braith. Attraction arcs between Leoma and Braith from the moment their eyes meet. They are both intense characters you can’t help but want them to get together faster as you can feel it from them. The wait is worth it though as their journey is fraught with danger at every turn from the Coven. When these two face down evil of the Coven Elders together, the bond between them gets cemented in blood.

I can safely say this booked completely checked all my boxes for an exciting and exhilarating paranormal read and I will keep an avid eye out for the next book. This is more than a 5 star read for me.

Eversong is a fascinating introduction to The Kindred Series. It revolves around witches, warlocks and witch hunters in 14th century England and Scotland. It introduces the Varroki, ancestors of the Vikings.

Leoma is a skilled witch hunter, trained in various fighting techniques. Her target is a Coven of witches who cruelly and indiscriminately use their magic to gain power.

Braith is an Earl who has left his warring days behind. His ward was his only family, now he is on his own and on a quest for revenge.

Braith is persuing the witch, responsible for his loss and when he finds her, Leoma gets in his way. He is not aware of what Brigitta, the witch is capable of. He is impressed by Leoma's beauty and skills. He goes after her, knowing that she will lead him to his target. The path is a difficult and blood curdling one. What they witness is beyond comprehension and they realise that they have a common goal. Once Braith becomes aware of the hunters' purpose, he readily offers assistance. A mutual admiration and attraction begin to develop. Could this lead to romance?

Braith proves his loyalty once committed to the cause. Leoma is a worthy warrior who will risk anything to thwart evil. The Elders are scheming and callous. The Varroki are respectable and despise evil. It's an exciting and rivetting story. There is betrayal, cruelty, magic, bloodsheds, loyalty, dedication and unconditional love. An intriguing concept with well developed characters. I absolutely love this first installment and look forward to what follows. Highly recommend.

I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

***I received an ebook copy from the author at no cost***

Eversong is outside the realm of the genres that I usually read within, but I’m so happy I picked it up because it’s a breathtaking story!

Historical elements were woven into this piece, and I loved the presence of witches, wizards, warlocks, and the like. Grant painted a picture with her words, and I found myself catapulted into this space that had both paranormal and fantasy elements to it.

I enjoyed the plot of this story. When two people are working toward the same goal, they can either come together, or they can work against one another, and I liked how these two chose the later option. There was mystery, adventure, action, and of course romance, and these different pieces fit together perfectly.

Leoma is a strong and fierce character, taking what was instilled in her since birth and using it to fight for good. Braith is heroic in his own right, and fiercely loyal. Both of the main characters were enjoyable and people that I felt like I could relate to. There was also great character development across the book, and I can’t wait to see what happens next for these two as the series unfolds.

The romance aspect in this book is a slow burn, which I adore. There was a fiery connection between Leoma and Braith from the get go, but no there was no intsa-love to be found here. The connection formed between these characters is made only more intense by the journey they are on and the experiences that they endure together.

If you like fantasy books, this is definitely one I’d pick up. And if you’re a fan of historical romance, it just might be your cup of tea too!

Four stars to this novel!

There are those who would use their magic to gain power and control. They call themselves the Coven. But nature is a balance. Where there is evil there is usually good to balance against it. The Hunters are determined to stop the Coven. While most Hunters don't have magic of their own, they are taught how to battle against it and gifted with weapons graced capable of fighting magic. What the Hunters don't know is that they have an ally. They call themselves the Varoki and they are out to stop the Coven as well.

Braithe is a knight used to leading armies, but in this hunt he is alone. He is determined to find and kill the woman who killed his ward and heir. He knows nothing of magic. Until he meets a Hunter who is searching for the same woman, only she knows that woman is a member of the Coven and a witch. That's how he finds himself working with Leoma. They learn that the Coven is after Braithe, only they don't know why. Determined to find answers, Braithe makes the Hunters' quest his own.

And so begins the tale of the Kindred, a classic tale of good versus evil. It's a story filled with adventure, danger, and romance. A story of magic, of knights and sword fights. A story where the reader can't help but root for the good guys and will figuratively cover their eyes when evil appears to triumph. The best part is this is only the beginning of the journey and the entire series is available to binge. I look forward to continuing the adventure.

I fell in love with this book from the Forward. A very heartfelt telling by the author as to why she wrote the story. Historical Romance was also my first love. And then I found Paranormal and I find I often forget how much I love Historical. This novel brings the richness, grit and tradition of the middle ages and weaves in the fantastical world of witches and warlocks. Throw in a bit of Viking mythology and a heroine in a very non-traditional role---you get a kick ass story!

I love that the lead characters--Leoma and Braith-- are not the paranormal aspects of the story. They are the warriors. From their first meet, I could tell that they would be drawn together and a perfect match. Both have great personality and an underlying goodness about them. When they finally give into the tension between them, it seals the deal on the feelings they have been fighting toward each other.

We have some mystery and intrigue happening. The Coven--a large and powerful group of witches--is up to something. Leoma and Braith are able to hold them off for now. I suspect we will have more encounters in the next book. I was very intrigued by the Varroki. I'll take more of them in the next book as well.

Great start to the series. Looking forward to reading more!

Listened to audio narrated well by Louisa Jane Underwood. I enjoyed the accents and narration.

Leoma has been training to hunt the Coven witches since she was taken in by Edra when she was a street urchin. She may not have magic but she's a talented, fierce fighter.

Braith is a Knight turned Earl who is determined to kill the woman that killed his ward, not realizing she was a witch. His world is about to change.

These two meet while they are hunting the same witch, both bent on killing her for her evil deeds. Leoma ends up saving Braith after his failed attempt to kill the witch. The Coven is hunting Braith for their own wicked designs. Leoma and Braith are determined to take out the Coven witches, they end up joining forces and falling in love along the way.

They discover another group also fighting against the Coven. Their leader Malene and her protector Armir and their group are intriguing and have secured their place in this series.

Set in the 14th century it doesn't always feels like it's in the past. I still enjoyed the characters and the conflict between the Coven and the Hunters fighting against their evil.
Mystery, magic, legends and romance in one package.

Donna Grant has once again written a story that kept me glued to its pages. EVERSONG, is the first book in her Kindred Series, and is not connected to any of her other series. Set around the 14th century, this story involves witches, warlocks and witch hunters.

Braith is a warrior, a man out to seek revenge on the witch who murdered his young ward and only remaining person he classed as family. Leoma is a witch hunter, a young woman who has vowed to destroy all evil witches, especially those who murdered her friend. When these two team up to rid their world of The Coven, witches who desire power and spare no thought for others.

This is an exhilarating story, a journey that is monumental. It is a magical story involving some of the most powerful and strong characters, I have seen in Ms Grant's books. I was thrilled that most of these characters were women - not many books of this genre have strong female leads.

Another epic series in the making. I wait patiently (not really) for the next books in this series. A highly recommended read.

Warning: Some reviews contain minor spoilers, but I keep the best parts vague. Check out my Reading Ranting page for more reviews and thoughts on reading.

What I liked…
Multiple POVs. I love 2 to 4 or even 5 POVs in my reading as well as my writing. I enjoyed the various perspectives and where each character and group of people were coming from.
I liked the romance and the lack of unnecessary drama for the sake of building some tension like some romance tropes.
The characters were nicely done with clear wants and needs.
I loved the love scenes.

What I didn’t like…
Without spoiling things, I think one of the earlier POVs could be cut since it doesn’t continue later in the book, and there’s another character that could convey the same thing.
Also, a couple of new POVs came in pretty late (half-way) for my liking. Personally, I feel that POVs should be established in the first act of a novel.
The prose was a bit simple. It conveyed the right things, but was low on the creative side for my liking.
I thought this book was YA, but the love scenes were NOT YA. I don't mean for them to be fade-to-black, just a smidge more delicate for the age category.

If you like witches and witch-hunters out for revenge, then this should be on yout TBR list. Just to warn you, the other books in the series each have their own set of main characters, so if you’re looking for a series to get addicted to for its characters, this isn’t going to be your thing.

I love this start of a new series!!! I’m blown away by this book. Leoma was trained from an early age to take down the Coven. She was orphaned and her surrogate parents brought her up to do battle with the Coven. Leoma is a Hunter, she protects innocents and the witches that don’t want to join the Coven.

She is hunting a member of the Coven when she crosses paths with Braith. Come to find out they were both hunting the same witch. Braith is distraught because of the murder of his ward and is out for revenge. Leoma spins an unbelievable tale of magic and witches that is hard for Braith to comprehend, but when there is irrefutable proof Braith is convinced. Now he is battling along side this warrior woman. Will they both come out of the battle unscathed? With the addition of unknown combatants will the tide shift into the Hunters favor?

I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Ms. Grant is a brilliant writer and I just love her books.

** I voluntarily read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review **

Eversong is book one in the Kindred Series

I can't think of a single thing I didn't like about this book - I loved the world, I loved the characters, and I enjoyed the romance. Leoma is a Hunter who hunts evil witches. She is searching for a witch who killed her best friend.
Braith is an earl and a knight who is hunting the same witch who killed his ward. Braith does not know that the women he is hunting is a witch, in fact he is not aware that the human world is a place full of dangerous creatures (Witches, Warlocks, Nymphs, etc).

When Leoma and Braith figure out they are hunting the same witch they decide to team up and the sparks fly. The relationship between Leoma and Braith is combustible, and you can feel the chemistry between them.

The story is fast paced and completely grips you from the very beginning and it's the kind of story you want to keep reading about. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. This book has a HEA for Braith and Leoma but there is an over arching storyline that continues with the following books

This book pulled me in from just the cover reveal it's a stunning cover. Eversong is a full to the brim captivating introduction to The Kindred Series. A story of witches, warlocks and witch hunters in 14th century England and Scotland.

“First, you need to understand two truths. There are witches among us, and magic is real.”

Braith is a warrior, he's seeking revenge on the witch who murdered his young ward. Leoma is a witch hunter, a young woman who has vowed to destroy all evil witches, especially those who murdered her friend. When these two team up to rid their world of The Coven, witches who desire power and spare no thought for others. With betrayal, cruelty, magic, bloodshed, loyalty, dedication and unconditional love. An intriguing concept with well developed characters. I loved this first instalment and look forward to what is to come.
Highly recommend.

Braith is a born warrior who was hoping he had at last washed the last of the blood from his hands. That was until someone he allowed into his home killed his young Ward. He will get his vengeance or die trying.
Leoma is a hunter for the Hunter's Coven. She is after an evil witch who killed her friend. Leona has no magic of her own, just a special sword that can deflect magic and kill witches. It seems as if someone else is looking for her target.
This is an all action magical story with very powerful characters. Our heroine can definitely kick ass. There are some marvelous and bloody battles, and a very surprising ending.
It is the first book in a series that I will definitely be reading more of.

Eversong (The Kindred, #1) by Donna Grant
What a great start to a new series! Braith and Leoma are both hunting for the same witch who murdered his ward and her best friend. The witch is a member of The Coven that Leoma (a hunter) is trying to protect witches and innocent people from. Braith (earl) is a soldier returned from war. They save each other and decide to fight together - they also fall in love. This is a magical story and there is angst, terror, horror, evil, spells, wit, love and steam to get us to their HEA. The story continues on with the next book EVERWYLDE.

3.5 rounded down.

I liked the fact that this is kind of insta-love but it doesn't act like it isn't.

Insta-love can work when it's not touted as something else. Like oh these two people have hated each other forever? And now they're stuck together and immediately into each other? Pass.

But two people hunting the same witch who cross paths and are like uhhh...you're hot...and then it grows from there? Sure. Why not?

I feel like the overall story and world building probably grows pretty well with the next couple of books, which appear to focus on different characters, but for this one I felt like it was just kind of okay. Not bad. But nothing riveting.

Overall a fun, quick book to listen to on a Friday afternoon.
