Shohn Hudson is a sexy ranger really popular with the ladies, except with Nadine. She never really paid him much attention so he never really noticed her. Until now. Now he notices everything about her and he wants her for himself. But she’s not as easy as the ladies he’s used to winning over.
Shohn is the usual manwhore but with a good heart. He helps people, he’s good with his family and he loves animals. Then Nadine is a little different! She’s insecure about herself, especially her body and the fact that Shohn wanted every women in town except her never helped her case.
So, even though the characters are quite relatable, I couldn’t connect with the characters because there’s just not enough time for it. The story is too short and at the same time, it’s not strong enough to make you forget that there’s a world outside of that story. It’s just too superficial: there’s no suspense, no fairytale, no twists and even the romance as it is, is not that much.
On the bright side, there’s a funny cat who can’t let go of Shohn no matter what. He kept the cat to use as an excuse to see Nadine but he ended up falling in love with the cat. Which is kind of predictable, but still sweet.
All in all, the story is quick, fast and cute, but it was kind of disappointing since I just finished Fast Burn also by Lori Foster and I completely fell in love with the story. I received an ARC from the publisher.
Decent short read. I suffered a bit from being so short. The couple already knew each other and she loved him or at least had a major crush on him. He'd been playing the field but suddenly sees her in a new light and presto! HEA. So for what it was and the time constraints needed to fit into 72 pages it was fine but just that.
I enjoyed the original Buckhorn series by Lori Foster a great deal, and I’ve enjoyed many of the novellas featuring the offspring of those first couples, but Shohn just didn’t have the same feel as the others. Shohn as with many of the other men in this series has a reputation of being a ladies’ man even at age 25, but the minute he sees Nadine when he goes to pick up his cousin’s dog he’s a goner. Mind you Nadine lives in the same town as him, is friends with his cousin, and he even protected her from bullies when they were teenagers, but he never noticed her until this moment. I can get past that, I can understand that people change, grow up, and wise up, but considering the fact that she didn’t want to be one of his conquests, their relationship moved way too fast for me. I would have like to see them get to know one another as adults, have some meaningful conversations, even discuss what they were doing together but instead they go from lust to undying love in the blink of an eye. I enjoyed seeing the couples from the original series including Shohn’s parents, Honey and Sawyer, and especially his Uncle Morgan, and while there was a happily ever after, for me it just came way too quick. Having been a fan of Ms. Foster for years, this book was a bit of a disappointment for me.
Short and empty... Shohn the 'Lady's Man' and Nadine the sweet pet sitter.
I was hoping for a 'chickens come home to roost story'... and she does distrust him for most of the book, but his part didn't ring true.
Shohn and Nadine have known each other most of their lives. They are mid twenties. She (thankfully) is not a virgin but we don't get any sexual history for her unlike all the obscure references to Shohn's prolific dating past. So I felt like the story was imbalanced the entire time. Mostly because there really no good reason as to why he all of sudden (and I mean suddenly!) notices how sexy Nadine is. Nadine, who has always noticed him and notices how he doesn't notice her! And she's cool with that. She isn't dying for him to notice her and she has had to hear from other women about how hot he is (or was in bed). Not cool.
So by the end I felt like he got hit by a fairy stick to suddenly notice her, and her magic vagina. It was kinda cute, cause his uncles and dad (the H's from the early books in the series) make fun of his 'falling in lurve'.
Yet another Hero who is a man whore. Normally I like stories where either both or one of the couple is in love or crushing on the other, however I am not a fan when the H such as in this case, is seducing and sexing up every female in town! I liked the fact that the heroine did not want to be “another” in a long list but would have preferred if she had resisted more & made him work for it because I honestly didn’t buy in the insta attraction or love. It just felt as if he was more into the chase and all. Still a good read if you are just into light mindless reading.
And I have to say this feels like a rinse and repeat plot even though it is too short to be a story. Manwhore, in this case Shohn, after a lifetime of friendship with Nadine, suddenly realises she is his one and pursues her without telling her she is special and not another passing fancy. Nadine works in an animal daycare centre. Having grown up in Buckhorn she knows full well Shohn’s reputation but succumbs like a silly ninny. Shohn goes to the extreme of getting a cat so he has a reason to see her. I must say Louis stole the book for me. Wow, Amber, the cousin, sure seems to be interfering if not downright pushing people to have sex and advocating that men need to sow their wild oats before settling down. The only thing wrong with that sentiment is not one of these Buckhorn men have ever had a serious relationship, ever. The monotony and unreality of this series has gotten boring. Never any other women drama, which I find strange as all these men play around on their own doorstep. And we don’t get any condom malfunctions either with unplanned pregnancies, except for the poor women earlier in the series. The men are all massive players if not downright manwhores and the women who they want as wives are too good for them. No matter how much I enjoyed reading these, the original brothers were fine and entertaining but having the next generation acting the same as their fathers, just no thanks. I have overdosed and I am finished.
What a sexy hero! This novella is a nice short introduction to the Buckhorn clan and made me want to seek out other books in the series. I love the closeness of the family and also the variety of occupations each family member has.
Shohn’s job as a ranger is a perfect compliment to the heroine’s job as the owner of a doggie day care and kennel. As with all of Lori Foster’s heroes, he’s incredibly sexy and just sizzles off the page.
I liked how the heroine is a bit insecure, not enough that she doesn’t sass the hero when he needs it. It helps that they’ve known each other since they were children, and that the hero saved her from a bully when they were both young teenagers, so they have a comfortable relationship. It makes for very witty banter and good interaction between the two of them.
I wish the novella had been a bit longer, because it seemed like the hero just decided to suddenly come on to the heroine out of the blue after knowing her for so long. It was as if the author didn’t have the word count to really delve into why he had considered her off-limits for most of his life. The heroine’s resistance to him was understandable, because she not only knew his various sexual exploits through what his own cousins had told her, but he had had a disastrous fling with one of her ex-employees.
The hero’s cat is absolutely hilarious! He pretty much stole the book once he got on the page.
The hero needed some meddling on his family’s part to realize his feelings at the end, and I’m a bit torn as to whether that was cute or a bit too interfering, but it’s nice that the hero had family close enough to him to care about him and want his happiness, and to see what was going on with him and the heroine.
Overall, a good novella that I really enjoyed reading.

The story of Shohn Hudson and Nadine Moest was a fun read. It is a novella that was first published 2013 as part of an anthology. While reading it I knew it was a reprint, yet I thought it dated even further back since the demeanor and attitude of the characters reminded me of the first Harlequin books I read a few decades ago. Nadine is a curvy girl, and I loved that. She was a strong, capable, and caring person. She runs her own successful business and is liked by all. She has had a crush on Shohn since they were kids, yet she has no desire to be one of his conquests, another notch in his bedpost. Shohn is a notorious ladies man. He can charm them all and he knows it and enjoys it. Except for Nadine who does not seem to care about his flirting. Shohn seems to take this as a challenge and sets a plan to seduce Nadine. The banter between them is entertaining, the back and forth goes on through the tale. Novella length does not give you much room for character development and a meaningful conflict, but I doubted Shohn's feelings, I was not sure if Nadine was a challenge to him or was there deeper meaning with his relentless pursuit. I also was surprised that the strong and capable woman that Nadine was introduced as swooned when Shohn paid attention to her, was complete putty in his hands. But maybe some books should just be enjoyed for the amusing repartee and sizzling physical chemistry - Shohn had plenty of both of them. A nice rainy evening read ~ Three Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
Shohn Hudson: Shohn's been a flirt forever... now he's 25, local Ranger (and hero for those who wander, fall down a slope, get injured)...He grew up with Nadine... and treats her like one of the boys (though at age 14, he stepped in when other girls were trash talking her)...
Nadine Moest: curvy Nadine (and curvy ahead of her classmates) has accepted she isn't nor doesn't want to be model thin; owns/runs the local animal hotel/day care - loves animals; has crushed on Shohn forever, but he treats her either as he doesn't see her or as one of the boys;
Until... he drops by to pick up his cousin's dog... and he notices Nadine... and makes...
and their relationship takes another path... his cousin believe he had wild oats to sow, but kept Nadine in a special place... and now it's time... ahhh
Nadine is cute as she tries to understand what his targeting behavior means - and it doesn't take him too long to understand that Nadine is now the only one for him..
humorous - he goes to get a dog from the pound, with the intention of using it as a hook to be with Nadine... but he leaves the pound with a cat, who just loves him to all get out...

So sometimes I like this kind of story, where the H/h start out as acquaintances, where one has been pining after the other and the other has been seducing the entire female population of the town. Then, the H has a sudden realization that this girl is hot and he wants to have sex with her, but she’s not so ready to be a conquest. In stories like that, I respect a heroine who refuses to be a conquest – this heroine, Nadine, is reluctant, but goes ahead into a relationship anyway. Her caveat, that no one know about it so that she doesn’t become a conquest in the eyes of everyone else. I also like it when the guy has some sort of realization of how his Casanova lifestyle has affected the likelihood of future relationships – we don’t really get that here. And it’s a pretty hot story (except for the annoying cat). I enjoyed it on the whole.

This was a good addition and a good start to the kids of the Buckhorn Brothers. This one felt rushed at times...like the ending, it felt like it was rushed through. Granted the couple in here have known each other since they were kids so there was no real insta love here which I’m good with. The problem was Nadine was full of insecurities where Shohn was concerned, and I think a longer book needed to be done for these two in order to properly work through those insecurities.
Had it been less rushed through it would have definitely gotten at least a 4 star from me and maybe even a 5 star. I was on the edge between 3 and 4 for my rating. Ultimately I had to go with my gut on this one because this book could have been so much more.
Very disappointed with this one. I had a hard time buying that all of a sudden the town playboy, Shohn, would all of a sudden change his ways after seeing Nadine one day. The same Nadine that he grew up with, the same Nadine that he defended when they were 12 and 14. I also found it odd that Amber would tell Nadine to go for a one night stand with Shohn so that she would know what it would be like to be with him, especially as she has had a crush on him since they were kids. Even as Shohn had to stand up for his wanting Nadine with his family, I had a hard believing his words.
This one was fun, though short. Honestly Shohn is not by favorite Buckhorn, but how on earth anyone could be more awesome than Casey or Jordan...I mean, that'd be the day.
Shohn seduces and wins Nadine, a by-the-book animal lover who sees right through Shohn's ridiculousness, but still falls in bed with him pretty much the second he decides he wants her. Definitely some cringey moments, but mostly a fun sexy (though novella short) romp.

Shohn is a novella from the Buckhorn Brothers series.
This is a quick, fast paced novella, with banter that is fun and flirty and captivated my attention from the very first page.
With Nadine, Shohn has met his match. She doesn't fall at his feet like he's used to, and he has to work harder to gain her trust.
This was the first title in the Buckhorn Brothers series, that I have had to the opportunity to read, but will be looking to read the rest of the books, and this one although short was quite entertaining and engaging.
This is a little novella and it is just perfect. A good quick read you can read in one sitting. Fantastic characters which have very hot chemistry. A cute and enjoyable story. The animals in this story some to steal the a bit of the limelight but they are quite humorus. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future. Highly recommended I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book
Another great hit by Lori Foster. I love the Buckhorn Brothers, what a great series and love that she kept it going.
Shohn Hudson is considered a player in Nadine's book. She has been friends with him, but he has never saw her as anything else until now and she is not sure what to make of this.
Shohn is a player and used to women chasing him, until one day he sees Nadine at her animal home and the light bulb comes on. She is gorgeous, sexy, sweet and someone he wants and the chase is on.
Shohn and Nadine have known each other since childhood. Shohn is a known lady's man and Nadine does not want to just be another notch on his bedpost. Shohn's cousin has him pick up her dog from nadines kennel Animal House and he realizes that he is interested in her. This was a very quick read and love story. It's a great short read but there were some parts in the first chapter that just made me cringe. I love this series and do recommend it, Sawyer or Jordan are still my favorites.
3 1/2 stars. I liked the characters, the family dynamics, the family pets, and the HEA. I didn’t like the rushed relationship. There was no dating, no real romance. Shohn goes from not really noticing Nadine in a romantic or sexual way to suddenly craving her after a few memories pop into his head about what a nice person she really was. The story could have done without a couple of f-bombs.
Not one of my favorites in the series (it feels too short and fluffy) but I liked catching up with the Buckhorn Brothers and in particular knowing Shohn was the first of the second generation (Casey really doesn't count as he's an in-between).
As usual Lori puts out a slightly man-whorish alpha who is taken down by a feisty and somewhat innocent girl. It's a trope that works for a reason, and these two are fun, particularly their interactions with the cat.
I read this novella the first time around and was not dissappointed on the repeat. It is quick and entertaining with plenty of fun.
Shohn loves life and lives up to the family reputation. Nadine has been watching him since they were in grade school. She does NOT intend to be one of his notches and lets him know. It only takes a small wardrobe choice for things to change.
Shohn is a ranger who comes from a big family who are in each other business. When he stops to pick up his cousin dog he remembers why Nadine the owner of a dog care business is amazing. Shohn and Nadine are adorable together as they discover why they make the perfect couple. The gazebo scene is hilarious.
It was believable that Nadine was in love with Shohn but completely unbelievable that he was in love with her. When the book starts he's not attracted to her at all. Then suddenly he notices her and quickly becomes attracted. His feelings develop too fast, even for a novella.
This is a super short novella. It is 72 pages, so yeah I started it and then poof I was done.
The story is good though, and the characters have really loved each other since they were kids, but they were friends. Now that they are adults they both realize that they were met to be together forever.
I liked the book - but it was too short. Needed to develop the characters more. It's almost like the author didn't want to write any more Buckhorn Brothers series, but it was lucrative to do so. A lot of time has passed since the last book - Casey - Shohn is a grown man with a job. I have a feeling Buckhorn County will be skipping ahead in time now . . .
I realize it's a short story but I didn't see any connection bw Shohn & Nadine other than sex. They weren't really friends growing up, have no deep connecting conversation or event that bonds them, etc. Shohn just decides all of a sudden that he wants to have sex with Nadine and boom, it's love. Uh-huh.....
I am giving it four stars for what it is - a romantic novella. As it is short, the story and conflict is not as developed as in a regular novel, but I enjoyed the characters and the dogs and cat.
