Adaeze Pharel Okoli is a 19-year-old author. She currently resides in Fresno California with her mom and two cats (Haylee and Bandit). Adaeze’s passion for writing started in the fifth grade with the encouragement of her mom, her 5th-grade teacher, and the after school care teacher. Her fifth-grade teacher saw that she had a talent for writing and storytelling. Each Friday she would go last when it was time to share and tell the stories written by the students, and her stories were what the teacher and students always looked forward to. Adaeze started writing her now debut novel: For the Love of Peter Jones in seventh grade. While she was writing this story, she suffered the loss of many family members and decided to put her pen down for a while. It wasn’t until freshman year of high school that she picked up her pen and continued writing and finished the novel during her sophomore year. Adaeze wrote to express the pain she dealt with as an adolescent and teenager. Trust issues, anxiety and depression are problems she faced along the way. Adaeze plans to continue on her writing journey while incorporating real-life situations into the stories that she tells. She’s only just begun.

A story to learn from! Filled with emotion! Passionate! Adaeze Okoli needs a Nobel Prize for such a beautifully written story. This story should be on every high school curriculum. I believe that this story was full details and it was told with such grace.

Okoli tells the story about a kid with so much bad luck, that made him want to give up. There are so many abandon kids in this world that could be lawyers, doctors, designers and so much more but they are not given the chance to get out the box that they are living in a lone. Children don’t have the encouragement that need to keep going. This is a story that should be shared.

I couldn’t imagine losing a mother and going through so many trials at once. It shows how been bullied can be so dangerous for kids in school and that many should speak up… IMMEDIATELY. It takes a lot of faith and belief in GOD to keep people going and most people don’t know who is guiding them to make their lives right.

Although this is a great story, it could use a bit more editing. Besides that this book is an awesome read.

I give this story a 4 star/ out of 5. Beautiful work Adaeze. I looked forward to reading more this author. She has made it to my favorite author’s list.

‘Heartbreaking’ comes to mind when I think of describing this book in one word. But I can’t limit the entire story of the book For the Love of Peter Jones by Adaeze Okoli merely on one word. Because that would be injustice, I will be doing it.

It is more than one word. It’s an entire Universe for Peter we are talking about here. It is about the struggle of a 16 years old boy, who recently lost his mother, and was kicked out of his own home by his father the very next day. The story is about a boy for whom every day is a fight for survival. A fight that he seems to be losing; falling into the dark abyss of hunger, depression, drugs and suicide. And the only person who seems to be barely holding him from the thread of sanity is Trinity; unaware that the thread holding Peter is about to break in half…

It was a gut-wrenching story that managed quite well to open my eyes to the harsh realities that today’s youth are facing in the western world. Author Adaeze Okoli in her book For the Love of Peter Jones deals in an extremely sensitive manner with the inequalities between rich and poor, between unfortunate and fortunate.

I was pulled in the story from the word go. And knew instantly that reading this book was going to be an emotional roller-coaster ride. Despite it being Adaeze’s debut book, I was literally floored with the narrative. Though, towards the end, it felt rushed. This book. A few more pages, and it would have been a 5-star read. I strongly urge you all to read For the Love of Peter Jones. Particularly by teens and the parents for this book will provide a perspective from the viewpoint of a teen on teenage, youth, homelessness, bullying, physical and psychological abuse.

Adaeze did an amazing job describing grief and many other very common issues that teens deal with. She shares about Peter's loss when his mom dies, bullying, suicidal attempts, and others. I thought Adaeze's story was beautiful. I think it would be a great book for all teens to read, to make these issues known, especially since Peter was a teen himself and dealing with a lot of hard life experiences at once. I love Peter's character and Trinity, too. I do wish the epilogue would have went a little deeper into the current situation/relationships but over all this book does a great job at showing the not so glamorous life that a lot of people experience.

Awesome Read

Wow this is a very entertaining emotional read. I felt so bad for Peter he lost his mom then his dad kicked him out and on top of all that he was bullied at school. This book covers a number of topics that we find hard to talk about or we sweep them under the rug. Awesome job Author Adaeze Okoli

For the love of Peter Jones follows the titular character and the challenges that he faces following the death of his mother.

To start off, I really enjoyed this book it had my attention for the most part but the second half of the book felt really rushed and certain plot points felt it came out of nowhere, the plot would be stronger if certain parts of the book had been set up to make the story flow more organically.

Other than that the book had some wholesome moments between characters and some traumatic events that the main character experiences which was truly tragic.

I had featured this young lady on my Instagram page before when her book first came out, and I was amazed at the fact that she had a book contract at such a young age. At that time, I hadn’t had the chance to experience her talent first hand. But now that I have, I am truly blown away by her talent. It is my great pleasure to review Ms. Adaeze Okoli’s debut young adult fiction novel, For the Love of Peter Jones. Once I started reading I found myself not wanting to stop because I couldn’t wait to see what could possibly happen next in Peter’s life. You find yourself creating this deep emotional attachment to Peter, and the story Ms. Okoli tells is definitely intense, but the journey is one of catharsis. By the end of the book you go from crying tears of sadness to tears of immense joy. It’s a really fascinating tale that Ms. Okoli crafts and each character involved is so fully developed. Each one is able to stir intense emotions in the reader, whether they be good or bad. In addition to creating this world of Peter Jones, she also touches on several topical and relevant themes playing out in many teen’s lives these days.
At the start of the story, we see that Peter loses his mother to breast cancer thus leaving him alone with an alcoholic and abusive father. However not only is Peter getting abused at home, he is getting bullied at school. So, from the very beginning the reader is thrust into this storm that is Peter’s life. As the story progresses, we come to meet this beacon of light, this safe haven in the midst of Peter Jones’s storm – Trinity King. One tidbit that I find interesting, and I’m not sure if the author intended this or not, is that the main characters names have biblical references – Peter and trinity. Once you read the story you will see how the references play a part in Peter’s transformation as a reformed sinner and the role that Trinity plays in that transformation.
Each obstacle that Peter faces is another stepping stone in his transformation, and along the way we hear the voice of morality, the voice of reason come through as Peter speaks to his deceased mother. What I liked about that aspect of the book is that for this particular age group, those messages don’t come across as heavy handed, rather they provide the clarity Peter needs. The obstacles Peter faces do involve teen homelessness, drug use, teen prostitution/sex trafficking, interracial relationships and bullying, so I would definitely advise this for junior high - high school age. But Ms. Okoli doesn’t ever go deep enough into the topics as to make the book explicit, yet she brings these topics to the forefront of conversation. For any educator, mentor or parent it would be easy to extrapolate them from the story and create teachable content using the book. Overall this was a thoroughly gripping novel, an emotional rollercoaster that I didn’t want to get off of. A definite must have for any teen out there. Peter’s journey is one that is relatable to anyone who has ever felt sad, isolated, or confused and that should be everyone because isn’t that what the chaos of our teenage years is about? I’d love to see if there is another novel in the works about the next stage in Peter’s journey.

Wow this author really knows how to grab you emotionally and the writing style just grabs at you. I was so invested in knowing what next would happen to Peter that I could not put down the book. I had an instant connection with Peter, I was always told to stand up for what you think is right and I know that if Peter Jones were in my school, I would have stood up for him. I found myself utterly understanding the reasoning behind the way that Peter thought, and I know a few of my friends at some point in their lives have had the same thoughts. I loved that you get to see the obstacles that Peter faces being a teen that is homeless, drug and alcohol use, bullying and so much more. However, you get to see a different side of Peter, the outcome of how his life is later, that part I did cry. Not of sadness but pure joy that this teenager was able to overcome so much in such a small part of time. This book will make you cry, smile, and even laugh, but more than that it will make you take a step back and remember not to judge a book by its cover. Not everyone is going through the same thing, and that a kind word or action is all that person needs in their life.

I want to first thank the author adaeze okoli for writing a wonderful story and for gifting me a copy of this story for my honest review.

When Peter Jones mom passed, it was unbearable, starting the downward spiral that is his life. Peter and his father have always had a strained relationship, going from bad to broken when his mother was diagnosed, until the day after her passing.

A turn of events causes Peter to be on the streets. No shelter, no money, and no food. Every move Peter makes can either have a positive or negative impact on his life. In the midst of all this chaos, Peter meets Trinity King, the girl of everyone's dreams, a girl he wants to trust, but doesn't know if he should. Peter is losing his once happy and stable life. Can he survive all these tragedies that are coming at him fast, or will Peter give up the fight and let this cruel game of life consume him?

☆☆.5/5

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about this story is heartbreaking. At the start of the story, Peter loses his mother to breast cancer, leaving him alone with an alcoholic and abusive father. She was the barrier between the two, at heart protecting him from the trauma.

In contrast, while the story at times was engaging, it desperately needed a good edit. Every time I got into the groove of reading or was having an emotional experience with the story. I ended up shell-shocked by a word or a string of words that were misspelled, whipping me out of the story.

There were also moments that felt disjointed and felt like I was missing parts of the story, detracting from the experience of the book.

Overall, this was a thoroughly gripping novel, that had me on an emotional rollercoaster, that I just didn't want to end. Once it is edited, it will be a book that will be a definite must-have for everyone to read. Peter’s journey is super relatable to anyone who has ever felt sad, isolated or dealing with any mental illness.

“An inspirational love story to keep you motivated and grateful with your life.”

#Insight- By name the book passes off like a love story. But it isn’t just a love story. It’s the story of a boy who first lost everything, was bullied, and tried to commit suicide. But as all stories go has a happy ending. But that’s not what’s special. What’s special is that during the course of book, he learns how to love, how to stand up for yourself and most importantly, that you must forgive others to move on.
Other than this the book feels real. Like you’re watching his life and not merely reading it. Nothing happens which cannot happen in reality and thus the book is almost as close to be written by Peter Jones himself. It is fast paced and will keep you hooked up until you finish.

#Review- It’s very well written, has a very slight touch of suspense, a great deal of emotions, and too much love, hatred and forgiving. At some point of time you will feel pity for Peter Jones himself. He’s a person still learning to live when life hit him the hardest and them just didn’t let him get up. What would you do if everyone who got close to you just left you or died, and you had no home, no food, ‘cause your dad abandoned you?
The story answers that question very close to reality. And this factor makes the book utterly interesting and gives it edge. Even the ending won’t disappoint.

#Strength- Fast paced and close to reality. Is interesting and has a mix of all emotions. Will keep you hooked.

#Drawbacks- Author please you could have expanded the story a bit more. Or a second part in which he gets back on his bullies with his success.

#Target Audience- All age groups. Recommended for teenagers and the ones who think life is unfair to them.

#Category- Fiction.

#Rating- 4.5

First off, thanks to the power of Instagram and @authoradaeze and her publisher, I was able to get a copy of this ebook for free before it finally releases.

What to say about this book without giving too much away. There are a few trigger warnings, but they are very minor. This book is safe to read for all ages. It deals with topics that most people are afraid to discuss and it is the perfect opportunity to talk about those issues. We see issues like bullying, sickness, drugs, and a lot of social injustices in the world. People are too scared to deal with these problems and blame it on God. One line that Peter said really stuck with me, he was feeling angry and hurt and he questioned his faith in the world and his belief in God. If all these bad things are happening in life, it makes you wonder why God allows the bad to creep in.

Peter is probably one of the best developed characters that I've ever read. He is physically maybe a weak character, but he is very strong. His will power and determination is overwhelmingly good. As a main character that is very commendable and rare. Honestly, every part of this book was so masterfully crafted. You can definitely tell that the author took her time and really poured her heart and soul into her book.

Overall, I will 100% be rereading this book again and recommending it to whoever will listen. Thanks again for the opportunity to read and review this book early! I feel tremendously blessed to have read such a wonderful book. Also all the references were very current and on point. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book for an honest review! All opinions are my own.

Peter undergoes a series of traumatic experiences very quickly starting with the death of his mother. His strained relationship with his father and getting bullied at school both contribute to him beginning to lose faith in himself and those around him.

Reading this made me think about what I would do if I saw someone struggling. Would I recognize someone who was barely keeping it together? Peter was lucky to meet some people who helped him retain his faith in humanity, even if only for a moment. But many were complicit in the things happening to him and did nothing to help him. This book captured feelings like being lost and forgotten very well. Given what Peter had been through, it was not hard to understand why he started to think the way he did. That didn’t make reading about what he was going through any easier though.

I rooted for Peter often and was very happy when people would be nice to him no matter how briefly. I did find that some parts were over-explained and it took some adjustment to get used to the language some characters chose to use. Also, I would’ve liked to learn more about the aftermath of Peter’s experiences at the end. Still, I appreciated that we are shown the outcome of his circumstances and how they shaped him. Overall I found this debut novel interesting and it challenged my way of thinking.

*This book involves descriptions or discussions of death, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts, bullying, and more.*

I had never heard of this author until she contacted me on Instagram and asked if I would read her book. I agreed and I'm giving my honest opinion. Full disclosure the author provided a free copy of the book.

The first maybe two or three chapters were ok and captured my attention. The story centers on the life of Peter Jones. I was thinking poor kid can't catch a break. His life was TRAGIC!!! After the death of his mother, Peter was failed by every single adult in his life. Every single one. He is befriended by Trinity, girl from school after an attack by a bully. That was my first issue. Bullying in schools is now being addressed and I can't believe how these attacks kept happening to Peter and no adult was alerted or stepped in?

There were so many typos and grammatical errors on top of the disjointed nature of this story. Peter encountered people and situations that were just too implausible for me to believe. It felt like the author was just writing whatever came to mind, regardless of it fitting the story.

The writing felt like a stream of consciousness and I wondered how the author was going to conclude this story. There was so much to unpack in the 140 pages and the ending was stuff of fairy tales. It felt like the writing of a middle schooler.

I wish this author the best of luck in the future.

2.5 stars.

Lets start with what I liked about this book:
- I liked some of the topics addressed in this book, such as grief, overcoming hopelessness, the importance of having a support system, and the real struggles of teen homelessness.
-This book is good at evoking emotion in its reader
-This book had some stand out lines and some heartwarming moments

Things I struggled with
-This book really needs another run through with an editor, there were a lot of grammatical errors and sometimes it took a bit of guess work on the readers side to figure out what the sentence really should be.
-Some things felt a bit repetitive, like when he kept talking about not knowing how some people could be so cruel. But at the same time I can understand why a kid down on his luck would think this.
-This book was a bit too white and black, it needs more grey. We either had really evil characters/were being told harrowing stories, or we had characters that were pretty much Saints in disguise

I know this is the authors first book. And she is young. I see a lot of potential in her writing. She doesn't shy away from the tough topics, which is a good thing. She had reached out to me to check out her book and I'm glad she did. While it didn't 100% work for me, it's a powerful story and I'm glad I got to experience it.

For the love of Peter Jones by Adaeze Okoli.
.
Peter Jones’s life becomes a series of misfortunes after his mother dies of cancer. Only ray of light in his life is his school mate Trinity King. Due to fear of overbearing Trinity, Peter distances himself from her and finds him in street amidst misfits. He is thrown one problem after another from which he keeps running until he has no will to run anymore.
🧑‍🦱🧑‍🦱🧑‍🦱.
“One thing I know is that I’m going straight to heaven when I die because I’ve done all my suffering in hell on earth.”.
🧑‍🦱🧑‍🦱🧑‍🦱.
Whole book is narrated through Peter’s point of view. Author has very well captured the turmoil between the lessons of determination his mother has taught and the lose of hope life forces on him. Peter’s relationship with his mother is very well written that you can’t help but feel sad for the young boy missing his mother.
🧑‍🦱🧑‍🦱🧑‍🦱.
Every character has a story and proper reason for their choices in life. This story is perfect epitome for Yin and Yang, because as much as blurb sounds like story is going to be about failure and hopelessness. At the end, it’s proved that kindness exists in our universe and all we need to do is fight till the end.

For the Love Each Other

For the Love of Peter Jones was a harrowing tale of Peter Jones who suffered through death, despair, and drug use all at the tender age of sixteen. Had it not been for the love of his mother, Trinity, Mr. Marker, and Ms. Sung, Peter’s story
may have ended up like hundreds of other youth lost to a world that has rejected them because of perception. It was heart-wrenching to know that Peter had such a beautiful soul, yet was often abused and mistreated by those who should’ve cared the most. This book tackles the disparities between the rich and the poor and the unfortunate and the fortunate in an extremely realistic way.

As powerful and impactful as the story was there were a few grammatical errors, and at times, near the end of the story, it felt rushed where it could’ve been expounded upon more. Alternatively, in the beginning, a few areas could have been trimmed more which is why we couldn’t covet it with 5 stars. Overall, it’s a recommended YA and teen read that will leave a positive and hopefully mind-altering view on the treatment of others, and at its very core...the love we have for each other.

Peter Jones is the apple of his mother's eye, but when she is taken away from him, he is left to deal with his abusive father and a future that does not look bright.
Tiffany King, becomes his only friend during his troubling times, but she doesn't really know how deep his problems really go.
Will Peter be able to cope with his mother's passing and get back on the right track?
🦄🦄🦄
For the Love of Peter Jones is a contemporary fictional novel by Adaeze Okoli.
This book made me cry, and not the cute kind, the 'I'm a mess' kind.
It plays with your feelings hitting you straight in the heart with all the situations that can make everyone, especially a child lose their way.
The author's writing style makes it realistic, genuine and heartbreaking.
Peter is an average teenager dealing with real life problems and even though the part towards the ending was not great, it still held its ground.
I love the fact that way the author subtly introduced what I would call his 'guardian angels' to guide him towards the right path.
This is a must read.

man oh man I was truly sucked into the story !!
I found it so hard to put down!

It was so well written, and took me on a real emotional roller coaster. It was funny, enjoyable, at times heartbreakingly poignant. It was a really good read and I would totally recommend it 👍

As someone who has experience with mental health alot of the feelings really did hit home, though I thankfully never got to the stage where I turned to addiction to numb myself to my emotions. I found other ways which I'm grateful I no longer do. I have been stable mostly with my mental health for quite a few years now and I think that is down to the right medications, and a good support network from my friends and family. Never feel ashamed of being unwell with mental health issues. It's an illness and with the right treatment you can find meaning and purpose in your life again. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. You are not alone.

I haven't imagined this book would take me to an emotional roller coaster ride like this!

Maybe you feel like ,For the love of Peter Jones by Adaeze Okoli, is based on Romance ! But no.

Yes this story revolves around a teen boy, Peter Jones . Right after he lost his mother his father kicked him of his house. Bad luck starts to chase him, and he chooses to chase. In this mist of unfortunate ,Tiffany becomes her solace.

The story is curved with emotions and sentiments which infects the readers too. How bullying, toxic people ,loosing of dear ones can affected life have been showed here.

I have to admire author has done a great research to create a teenager protagonist. The main as well as the supporting characters are equally good. But I personally felt the story wrapped up hurriedly. Otherwise, it's a good book to read if you wouldn't mind shedding tears while reading.

From the heartwrenching introduction to Peter's life, I knew I was in for a potentially emotional ride. I felt Peter's pain as he tried to navigate his way through the many trials he had to endure. The story touched on the effects of terminal illness, bullying, sexual depravity, , homelessness and many more. Peter met those stumbling blocks head-on as they began to shape the man he would become. I think this is a must-read for young adults to experience the "what ifs" scenarios. The author pulled me in from chapter 1 and I never left. I think as a debut novel, she hit it out of the park with the story itself. The issues with editing will diminish as she hones her craft. My hats off to you Ms. Okoli.

What a powerful story.

I think I heard that the story was based on someone's actual life. I am so thankful that God kept him alive in order to share this remarkable story. In today's times we tend to not uplift each other instead for some reason we have become bullies beating everyone else down as if it makes us up here taller or better 🙁
This the Authors first book and she is only 17 , I found it refreshing to see someone so young jump out with her talent and faith. There were a few misused words/ errors however I think the Publisher should have caught them, so I didn't fault the writer. I look forward to following her and seeing what's next .

This is a very emotional read. I was completely engrossed with the main character, Peter and what was going on and happening to his life. I found myself crying while reading this book because the author touch on real life subjects that have happened to a lot of us or we know someone that this has happened. I highly recommend this book to be read by teens/ middle age and high school kids and everyone else. This book will provide a fresh perspective on teen/youth homelessness, bullying, physical and psychological abuse.

Heartbreaking yet heartwarming

This is an emotional tale of a 16 year old boy, bullied at school, has a worthless father and his mother has just passed away. The only good thing in his life is Trinity, his only friend. Finding himself homeless and at the end of his rope, he contemplates suicide. This is a very topical story of the struggles of today's youth. Teen suicides due to alienation, bullying, or being LGBTQ are up and this story is a reminder that there is hope even in the worst of times. Thank you Ms Okoli for that needed reminder.

Enjoyed.Every.Page.

This book is literally a whole "SCHMOOD." This story pulled and played on my heartstrings that I'm at a loss for words. To go through trauma, abuse on every level, the mental turmoil, the loss of a parent, and also trying to still show love and compassion and have faith in humanity!! Omg got me all in my feelings 🥺🥹.. In my opinion, this book gives a different outlook on the aspect of you never knowing what a person really goes through when they are pushed to their limit. You just never know. Overall, I loved this book a great read 📖

TW: Substance Abuse, Physical Abuse, Suicidal Thoughts, Bullying

This was an emotional read because Peter suffers through the unimaginable. It's one thing after another for him and seeing his journey (from the highest to lowest points) was a LOT. There were some points in the plot that felt rushed (specifically the ending), with grammatical errors and typos, but other than that- the emotions throughout were raw, and I appreciated that. This is a three-and-a-half rating for me.

P.S. Trinity King, what a gem.

Emotional roller coaster

This is a great read, especially for teenagers dealing with bullying, drug addition and/or death. Looking forward to more from this author.
