Book 4 of this Debbie Macomber series didn’t capture my heart as much as the first three, but it was a great story with lovable characters, some unexpected plot twists, and a nice happy ending.
Dr. Texas by Debbie Macomber was an ok "listen" (audiobook). I was 75% finished when I realized that I had actually read this book quite a few years ago. I think it was when Richard was injured in Bitter End. I remembered enjoying reading the book but I really didn't care for the audio version. The female narrator really did not do justice to the men's voices. I don't know if it was the pitch or the cadence, but it just didn't work for me.
Dr. Texas by Debbie Macomber * Change Although this is book 4 in a classic series, you do not feel completely lost by picking up the story here as I did. However you WILL want to go back and read the previous stories and those that came after. Debbie does an amazing job not only grabbing your attention with a story, but keeping your full attention to the end.... But of course you'll want more too! (I know I do!). Jane goes from California to Texas, culture shock and all alone, what a great way to start a 3 year commitment. Cal prefers to be left alone, then he meets the new doctor in town.... What does it mean? You'll have to read Dr Texas to find out.
I don't know how I missed this book when it first came out, but I'm glad I found it. Dr. Texas is about two people, who for very different reasons, would rather forgo the whole relationship thing. These two are destined to end up together no matter how hard they fight the attraction. The story is set in a fictitious small Texas town, the perfect setting for this book. There are numerous colorful supporting characters to this story too, which is just an added bonus. I think reader who like a clean romance will enjoy this book.
This series has read much like a weekly TV show. Each book is a continuation on the stories of each of the cast of characters from the sheriff to the feed store owner to the town ranchers and the minister. Though each book supposedly highlights one character's story, the other characters and their stories are equally focused on. This style of story telling in book form has taken some getting used to. But it has proven to be addicting. You keep reading to see how everyone's stories turn out.
Every once in a while I try one of this authors books because she gets so many good reviews and she’s so prolific, but they are all so trite and seem to be written for young teens by a teenager. I really don’t understand these reviews!! I didn’t bother to finish this one it was so bad.
Another wonderful book by Debbie Macomber. This is part of the Texas series (I believe). The stories are intertwined so my only recommendation is to start from the beginning of the series so that we can read it in order. I did not do it so I know the happy endings from previous books but it won't stop me from reading it.
I shouldn't have bought this book. Some readers have compared my books to hers, so I thought I'd read one, not realizing it was a romance. (i write mysteries!). I thought the plotline was a little thin.
A Cross Between MURPHY'S ROMANCE and DOC HOLLYWOOD
I know guys are supposed to love romances and maybe I don't. But I do love good stories with engaging characters. DR. TEXAS is such a book. I'm a fan and will be coming back for more.
I love the characters of Promise, Texas, the main characters of Cal and Jane were the main focus of this book. But there were several other side stories going on with characters from previous books.
We are back in Promise, TX. Grady and Caroline are planning a wedding. Ellie and Glenn are back from their honeymoon. Dovie and Frank are having issues. Ellie's trying to play matchmaker for Glen's brother Cal. I love spending time in this small town. Love this series.
I enjoyed this novel which provided a good, safe, sometimes humorous read. It is part of a series and many characters from the previous books in the series are mentioned. I'd suggest reading the books of the series in order.
I was already madly in love with these characters, so I was psyched to learn that we were going to find Cal a woman. I never would've imagined him with Jane, but they actually seem suited for each other. And at least Richard is finally getting what he deserves. That jerk.
For book # 4 it's a great love story. About not perfect love or life, because Life and Love are messy. But how to work though it. To create a family anime. That works through problems.
Ever since Cal's finacee broke off the engagement, Cal stays out of relationships. Jane comes from California to be the town's doctor. Unfortunately, her attitude puts the residents' backs up. With Dovie's and Ellie's help, she changes.
I enjoyed this book it was fun to read characters are more down to earth than most other books the day to day lives are intertwined and interesting would recommend this book to anyone
Another great story. I'm ready for the next book. Thanks Debbie for your heartfelt stories. They are awesome. It makes you want to live in that small town.
