Young Jody Benson has always considered himself to be a straight boy - well apart from a couple of sexual experiments at high school and his local boy scouts troop that is. But then his world starts to change when his Māori friend Jason who is cheerfully bi-sexual invites him to go along to a drag show at Connections night club. At first the boy is reluctant – why the hell would he be interested in a show put on by a crowd of drag queens? But then Jason reminds him of his ambition to become an investigative journalist. This could be an opportunity to explore an exotic new world. Jody decides to go along to the show and gets more than he bargained for! ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Kevin Armstrong has worked extensively in theatre and film in television in Asia and the Land Down Under. He also teaches creative writing skills in universities and international schools. Something of a travel tragic, he is often to be found raconteuring in bars between Shanghai and Sydney. Approximately 20,000 words.
This is the oddest story I think I've ever read. Jody is a very confused character. He wants to be a journalist, investigative reporter, maybe one day a writer. He attended a drag show, which seemed to peak his interest. He also seemed to have a strange college roommate. Very, very odd story. This is my first time reading this author. I personally just didn't get it, but this could be right up someone else's ally. To each their own.
The prequel. Jody thinks he's a straight man, but going to drag shows convinces him otherwise. Jody also has a roommate, Alex, who he likes but who is celibate. He meets Shane, one of the drag performers, and helps him tuck and tape.
Jody thinks he wants to become a writer. He seems fascinated with gay boys but has only had heterosexual encounters in the past. He has a strange dancing roommate named Alex who is always naked but I'm really unsure if he is real or just in Jody's imagination. He goes to interview another dancer from a drag show. This says it's book one but it's been a year and I don't see a continuation
