Sleep Is For The Weak: How To Survive When Your Baby Won't Go The Fuck To Sleep

Sleep Is For The Weak may cause Gina Ford to have contented kittens. It might even force Supernanny to throw herself off the naughty step, but it will certainly provide some welcome comfort and comical light relief to exhausted parents suffering from sleep-deprivation!

It features humorous alternatives to useful sleep advice while offering inspiration, laughter and survival strategies for mums and dads struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel of tiredness. Including chapters What to Expect (When Nothing Is Anything Like You Expected When You Were Expecting) and How Not To Lose Friends and Irritate People When You Have Babies, this book will make even the most stressed parent laugh.

Combining Emily-Jane's own experiences in emotive detail (the good, the bad and the funny) with a series of tongue-in-cheek guides, charts, subversive imagery and NO-sleep solutions, this is a source of inspiration and hope for new mums and dads.

The only problem with this book is that it's very hard to keep yourself from laughing out loud, which might wake up the baby.

Emily-Jane Clark's Facebook page got me through many long, wakeful nights when my son was a baby. It allowed me to laugh rather than cry and helped me know I wasn't alone. This book is hilarious and brilliant.

A funny read that made me laugh and gave me a bit of perspective whilst learning to live with less sleep and a 4 week old cutie!

I laughed out loud so many times while reading this book! Any book that can make me do that deserves 5 stars! I'm so happy that there's now such a refreshing and encouraging book that I can't wait to give as a gift to new parents!

I wish I had found this book when I'd had my first baby! The reality of the book is so relatable and I *love* the dry humour throughout.

So many feelings and thoughts were the same as those I felt when my eldest (now 2) was born. I stressed so much about routine and what was the "done thing" that I forgot to really enjoy every minute, even the tough ones.
My youngest is 4 months, I am being there as and when my baby needs me and ignoring what everyone is doing or suggesting. We have no routine and my house is quite often a mess with a baby and toddler but that's fine, as I'm spending as much time as possible watching my girls grow up.

After reading this, it's nice to know that my babies haven't been "abnormal" for not sleeping much or crying "too much" and the book has got me through what's felt like a very long development leap.

Thank you Emily-Jane for making the rest of us feel like we're bossing it as parents even when we feel like we're not.

I would definitely recommend this for any new or existing parents who need an honest laugh and who need to take comfort in knowing that they're not alone in this journey of parenting.

Read while up with my very own sleep thief. Some bits were laugh out loud funny (which is tough when a baby is using you as a human mattress and you don't want to wake them) and it brought back a lot of memories of the early days. I particularly appreciated the last section which really reminds you to appreciate those snuggles rather than trying to wish them away. Yes, sleep is nice but you're not going to get there any faster by wishing it over. This too will pass.

Nice to see other people struggling with the same issues and explaining them in a funny way. I really needed to laugh :)
Minus the gallons of coffee I had the same journey into motherhood.

When you’ve burned all your other baby advice books, after throwing them at the wall in frustration, Emily-Jane Clark’s brilliantly funny book, Sleep is for the Weak is the one you need to get your hands on to try to preserve a shred of sanity.

This is not the book for those parents who swear that routine/dummy-free/natural/attachment parenting skills resulted in their baby sleeping through the night by 6 weeks of age.

This is for those of us who are still pacing up and down, probably in tears and yelling at our partner, when the baby is 6 months old because we’d tried EVERYTHING and still the kid refused to sleep.

Hot tip: Buy it and read it before you get to that point.
