I stood at the end of the gravel drive that wound through the dirt patch. The parched soil was cracked and barren, with only the occasional overly-ambitious weed poking through to add a touch of color. “Council of Packs Veteran’s Rehabilitation Center,” I read aloud from the weathered wooden sign hanging precariously over the sterile stainless steel doors in front of me. Without that sign, the anonymous gray concrete block walls could have shrouded any establishment. The metallic click of the magnetic lock releasing broke the evening silence as the door hitched, swinging open a few inches in response to the buzzer I had pressed. I took several steps inside, stopping at the semi-circular reception desk that sat awkwardly in the center of the hallway. “Can I help you?” A bored-looking redhead – human, from her scent – stared past me as she asked. “Um, yeah, I mean, yes, please,” I stuttered out. “I’m here for your outreach program.” “My what?” She raised a brow and popped her gum. “The outreach program for injured Veterans?” I swallowed a sigh. “There was a sign-up sheet in the psychology department at the community college?” Red shrugged disinterestedly and continued to stare at me. “Do you have a contact name?” “No.” I thrust the printed copy of the email confirmation I’d been clutching in my hand toward her. “This is all I received.” She glanced at the paper I held out without taking it from me and shrugged again. “Is there someone that you could ask?” Red huffed out a sigh of exaggerated annoyance. “Just a minute.” She dialed an extension on the phone in front of her and mumbled into it before hanging up and turning to face me again. “Craig will be out in a minute.” She turned away again, and I took a step back from the desk to wait. It wasn’t long, a matter of minutes really, before I was staring up at the most beautiful Alpha that I’d ever seen, unable to remember my own name. “You’re here for the Wounded Veterans outreach program?” His deep green eyes skimmed over a paper on the clipboard he held in one large hand. “What’s your name?” I stared, unable to pull my gaze from his plump lips. “Son?” His deep baritone voice pulled me out of my stupor. “Are you okay?” “Yeah…I mean, yes, Alpha, I’m fine,” I stumbled over my words. “Okay, then.” His eyes rose to mine from the paper. “What’s your name?” I continued to stare, aware that he had asked me a question but not quite able to remember the words to answer it. “Are you sure you’re here for this program?” His velvety voice held a touch of irritation. I nodded, my head jerking like a marionette on a string, but my mouth refused to work. “Look, kid,” he spoke, his voice firm but not unkind. “If you can’t talk to an Alpha, then this program isn’t a good fit for you.” He placed his palm gently on my shoulder and turned me back to face the door. “Why don’t you go home and have your daddy help you find a better fit for your comfort level? I know there are several programs where you can interact with Betas and Omegas.” He patted me once before turning away. “Good luck.” And just like that, the Alpha of my dreams walked out of my life.
It’s been mentioned in other reviews here on GR, and I must agree, that All in His Mind is one of the weaker offerings within the larger series of The Omega Auction Chronicles (or The Omega Rescue series, depending on how you’re reading them).
The plot, although interesting in its uniqueness, wasn’t all that memorable, and I do wonder whether this is largely due to the fact that I noticeably disliked the alpha MC, Lachlan, especially when compared to my enjoyment of the alpha characters in the previous stories within this long-standing series. Thankfully, I still very much liked Quinn, the sweet and gracious omega of the story; but sadly, liking Quinn didn’t do much to combat my disinterest in his romantic counterpart.
What did work for me this time around was the discernible improvement in the overall writing quality, particularly in terms of grammatical errors and whatnot – where the previous stories seemed rife with little editing mishaps that niggled along the way, this latest story didn’t appear to have any perceptible mistakes, which was great!
Although, clearly, not my favourite story in the series, I still very much enjoyed the A/B/O world that Rhodes has created and is continually expanding on, and I will definitely read on as new characters and couples are introduced into this unique shifter world.
Didn’t love it and didn’t hate it. Probably my least favorite book in the series. It’s all about complicated emotions and feelings. The title truly told the whole story though. I feel like Lachlan is suffering from paranoia and self doubts. Poor Quinn had to suffer because of Lachlan’s insecurities. Even the HEA seems to be not that satisfying. Not much to tell since I didn’t love it that much.
This one's a whole lot hotter than just the sweet romance
I really liked this one, it had a little more complexity to the story plot and brought up another side of the shifter world which hadn't been touched on before - what happens to wounded one's.
Lachlan needed a wake up thump to the head to get over his fears but Quinn was super flustered and super sweet from the outset.
I'm guessing book five is going to be asexual alpha Connor finding his mate in the missing abused shifter from the horror orphanage so hopefully that'll be out soon.
Mkay, might sound ridiculous, but this series is really romantic. The books are just so easy and painless to read, it's almost like a tonic for my stress. This was sweet one...
This was book 4 in "The Omega Rescue"series. Quinn was one of the Omega's that was rescued. When he goes to volunteer at a center that helps wounded vets he meets and Alpha Lachlan he is a hot sexy Alpha who was wounded when he leg was blown off. The Alpha makes Quinn all hot and tongue tied. When these two hook up and have sex it was hot but Lachlan doesn't want to claim him. When Quinn meets the woman that Lachlan was suppose to mate it doesn't go well and he tells her off for insulting Lachlan. Quinn helps Colby and Rafe who are investigating an orphanage with the help of a childhood friend Connor who is an Alpha who asked Quinn to be his Omega he needs to mate to take over his father's pack his father is sick and dying. Connor is asexual not sure how that would have worked. Colby was a big help to Quinn and when he goes to the bar to get laid only he didn't think it through and is in trouble until Lachlan shows up to help him. I also like when Lachlan thought that Quinn was pregnant because they sprayed something on him to help them. I really like this series. The book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series. I hope the next book is about Connor
Well .. this was all kinds of awesome!! BUT...i have to address here.. my feelings on the reader who gave a 2 star review seemingly because of the cover!(?) Seriously?? I have to wonder WHY. Said it was out of focus/ unclear or some such nonsense. Well that beautiful cover bumped my 4* review up to a 5* review! She mentioned nothing about the story or characters... just... the... cover.... that just so happened to not only be fabulous but featured an African American M/C!! 🤔 So the... cover.... gave that reader such a nasty taste in her mouth that she gave the entire book a 2* rating... interesting....
4.5 stars. We were introduced to Quinn in previous books and now we get to see him meet his alpha in Lachlan. There is a bit of back and forth with these two because Lachlan has already decided that he doesn't want a mate and he's quite upfront about it. Truly, in the first third of the book, I really didn't like Lachlan. Quinn impressed me with his ability to carry on when he suffers rejection again and again. I love seeing all the guys from previous books as they gather together to take on a situation that is truly evil. I'm crossing my fingers that Connor's book is released soon.
I am still choosing to ignore all the editing issues in this series. This one was not one of my favourites - mainly because Lachlan was such a pain the whole way through.
This is it. This is the book that I've been waiting for. There were minimal grammatical mistakes (Whoa!) and no shortage of romance, good plot, and character development. All of the problems that I had with the previous books in this series were nonexistent in this one. I don't know what Kian Rhodes did differently before publishing this book, but it is worlds better than the others in the series.
To start off, there was tension. A lot of tension. Quinn had the hots for Lachlan the minute he saw him. Even though he was usually confident around Alphas, there was something about this one that turned his world upside down.
Lachlan knew what an interested omega looked like, and the twinkle in Quinn's eyes made him want to stay far far away from him. Since he lost part of his leg to an IED on a recon mission and his ex-fiance called off their mating ceremony, claiming that Lachlan wasn't the man she needed anymore, he hasn't quite felt whole. His insecurities get the best of him and he continually pushes Quinn away while also sharing his bed with him.
To put things mildly, Quinn is beyond confused by Lachlan's behavior. He acts like he wants him and keeps insisting that he isn't looking for a mate. Quinn thinks Lachlan is content with having his body, but doesn't want the commitment that comes with a mate. When a potential rival for Quinn's hand steps into the frame, Lachlan has to stand on his own two feet (pun not intended) and decide what really matters.
There was so much emotion in this book that it raised the bar for the rest of the series. The minute I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I sincerely hope the rest of the series continues like this because I really loved All in His Mind. Best of the series in my opinion.
Edit: But seriously, this series could do with better book covers. If I were judging this book by it's cover, I would never have read it.
Quinn finds his match in this book, but it is not at all a smooth process!
While working on volunteering hours towards becoming a physical therapy assistant, Quinn meets alpha Lachlan. The thing is he is struck pretty much dumb by the gorgeous alpha, and has a terrible time trying to make any kind of good impression. Add in that Lachlan was burned by a mating in the past and has sworn off omegas and you've got quite the difficulties in store.
Quinn is sweet, but rather bumbling around Lachlan. He doesn't have a bad background and pretty much ended up in the auction scam by honest means- he really was supposed to be sold, just had an alpha who didn't do enough research. He fits in well with the couples and is working hard towards his job. Quinn is very caring and strong and a lot of fun to read.
Lachlan is a very stubborn alpha and plenty of times you get pretty frustrated with him. He is letting his past overshadow his future and not trying to see the possible good around him. It takes a lot to getn through to him, but he does well when he finally realizes.
The continuing story now is of the "re-homing" centre from Flawlessly Imperfect. It turns out it is even worse than originally suspected and will be a problem that continues on in further books.
The only reason I felt this wasn't five stars was the lack of explanation of the connection between Quinn and Lachlan. All In His Mind is an intentional name, and there is something going on between the two leads. It gets explained away as a telepathic link, but all the wolves have had that so far. This was much stronger and had many unique facets, but it never gets talked about. I am curious if it is something that will come into play again later and hope for a further explanation.
I am a fan but I have to comment something, I don't know is the writers read the reviews but I hope so, what an ugly cover, I don't believe that the person that made the picture, is clear used more than one image, to collage this one but I'm sure never look back to see the result because the figures look completely out of focus and the colors are terrible, please just take a minute to verify the result before the book release.
Walking wounded and the fearful but sometimes lusty virgin
Another in a fluffy omegaverse series following the theme of caring but sometimes rough-edged alphas caring for vulnerable omegas in an often discriminatory world.
The weakest of the series so far, the potential of a wounded veteran and an introverted/injured-but-taking-college-classes-anyway was particularly interesting pairing. However, the chemistry between the two was uneven at best and too many of the plot points stretched way beyond credulity (even for omegaverse fluff) . Unfortunately, for me, it just didn't satisfy on any of the levels that normally make a/b/o (omegaverse) work the best: neither fluffy "alpha-to-the-rescue" nor "omega-lil-dude-rescued" nor "alpha/omega heat" nor "stand up against oppression" themes.
This was an epic journey with 17 books in the Omega Auction Chronicles (plus 4 shorts) and they are intertwined with the Omega Rescue and Blood Valley Investigations). They are definitely best read in order and worth it - very sexy, entertaining and fun.
I still have the Omega Destiny, International series to get through and looking forward to it.
This is a paranormal queer romance, the 11th book in a series that should be read in order. I was both horrified and awed by the writing! The evil was written so well that I felt myself crying out in angst; now that’s excellent writing! I definitely recommend this book and this series! 💜💜💜💜💜
Sweet Quinn and the wounded alpha Lachlan dance around each other in misunderstanding. In their world there is no doubt of an alpha influence over a omega, I loved the interactions. This is the first time I have read Kian Rhodes but now will certainly read the other books in the series.
At first was not sure if i was going to like thos book but once i started to read more of it the more i liked it. There was parts that made me cry and cringe and parts that made me smile.
Quinn is smart, helpful, and hard working. Lachlan is afraid that he's damaged and therefore holds back. They are so drawn to each other that the pulling apart is sad. But working together to solve a problem helps put things in perspective and Lachlan has to trust he is enough.
Another great book in a great series. I wait patiently for each and every book in this who series of books and they never let me down for a fun quick read.
Lachlan was a tough, strong self conscious Alpha. He saw his missing limb in human form as a liability. Quinn is a bashful, virgin Omega. The first time he sees Lachlan, all coherent thoughts took a hike. This is an awakening of their awareness and feelings for each other. Being an amputee, I love when it can be worked into a storyline. Thumbs up, you did a fantastic job. This story is my new favorite 😆. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS AMAZING, AFFORDABLE SERIES!!!
