Grim Fate by Izzy Shows is yet another hit in the series. The books just keep getting better and better! Our gal Blair, bruised and broken from fighting the ultimate monster and failing in the land of fae, has barely made it home to get a summons to appear to the Order. She assumes she will probably die because she used unlicensed magic. The book is about her defending herself to the Order, the rigged trials, and the many surprises along the way. Some are funny and some are sooooo deadly. There are twists and turns unexpectedly with Mal also, UGH! I know... So much happens in this book that opens doors here, is it closing doors too? So frustrating!!! Hurry with the next book! Love this series. The author makes you feel like you are physically there and feeling all the emotions Blair is feeling. Great job, great fantasy, awesome magical story, and I love her new familiar!!! Yes, Blair gets a familiar in this book, can you guess what it will be? Not telling....

Well written

I have to say that these books so far are a wonderful read. Izzy writes well and it shows. I find myself caring about the characters and living the moments of their lives with them.

But one thing really needs to be addressed here; the plots of the books so far have been so very close to the plots of The Dresden Files it is scary. Characters, wizard, shield bracelet, information source, hard bitten detective, poverty, fae and more seem lifted from Mr. Butcher. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE these books, but I am seeing too many parallels to Dresden that I'm starting to think it is deliberate.

There are a lot of things to say about this book. As far as the "villian" of the story goes, well it was minor compared to what she's faced in the past, however, with multiple threats, Blair shows her commitment to keeping her friends and London safe. Diego is a great addition to the series and a mentor that, I think, Blair needs both personally and for learning more about magic. On the romantic front, this book was the pits. Mel's being a jerk, it's obvious that Blair isn't quite sure about her feelings for Mal or Emily. Poor Shawn, he has been the most patient, understanding friend with benefits Blaire could have ever had and yet I guess we all knew the relationship with a mortal wouldn't last forever. I feel like Blaire still has some growing up to do and I am hoping Diego helps her to do that. I feel like she and Mal have the best chemistry and it broke my heart a little what happened between them, although I think there's more going on than we know yet. I missed Finn in this book. He brings humor and muscle and keeps Blaire real. Their friendship seemed neglected in this book, but there really wasn't any reason for him to be in this book. I also still love Fred, he is such a sweet little guy. I do hope he and Weyler get along for everyone's benefit. Great series to read and can't wait to move on to the next. Looks like Izzy needs to get with it though because people are getting antsy about book 8. Everyone hates to get so invested in a series then there is this long pause between books or sometimes the authors just don't bother to continue. I hope that's not the case here. I'm off to book 6. Happy reading!

I read this book, courtesy of Ms. Shows, who sent me an ARC. The review I’m writing is not biased due to that, though.

I have been fascinated by this series since the beginning. Blair is not your ordinary heroine. Ms. Shows has created a character that thinks outside the box. She’s tough, yet strangely vulnerable at the same time. She’s learning quickly as she goes. The supporting characters are also unique. The interaction between them keeps you going! The action never stops, or even slows down!

“Grim Fate” is no exception! The twists and turns keep you glued to the pages, waiting to find out what’s going to happen next!! Just when you think you have it figured out, it takes a different path. Blair’s long-held fear of being found out by the Order has happened, and it’s an even bigger battle than she had anticipated. She has her wits and talent put to the test, to prove she has the right to be what she is: a wizard. There is so much action and emotion involved that I felt almost exhausted when I finished the book, yet am looking forward to the next book with much anticipation!! I don’t know how Ms. Shows can fire these books out so quickly, but I’m glad she does!

Wow! Of all the Codex Blair books, "Grim Fate" is by far the most exciting. Blair has been informed but the Order that she will stand before them for magical crimes she has committed. It is clear early on that they want nothing more than to put her to death. So, battered and bruised she goes to them where she manages to get a stay of execution by going on series of tests called the Proving. If she manages to survive she can become a Wizard.

Meanwhile, as Blair tries to come to grips with her tenuous status, Malphas is acting strangely and hurting Blair with each encounter. She so avoids Shawn while she comes to the conclusion their relationship is coming to an end. This may very well be a time of change for Blair but new people and skills are also emerging.

There is plenty of tension, action and excitement in this read. However, I am not sure that I like where the series is heading on the romantic front but I will take a wait and see approach. Before you ask, "No. I will not reveal any spoilers." One thing for sure, Ms. Shows does not adhere to the tried and true like other authors and because of it we are constantly left guessing.

This is the fifth book I've read in this series, and I love them all. If you like urban fantasy these will not disappointed.
As always Blair faces new challenges, this time in the form of the order. What Blair has been dreading has happened, and she has been called before them. Plenty of new characters are introduced, in particular Diego and Waylny, although as always it's great to see old ones. Emily!!! What a great character she is. It's always great when the character's are strong and likable.

The book was well written with a brilliant fast paced story and full of action. I found this book a little more emotive than the previous books, which was great, I really felt for Blair and her situation. Brilliant writing to be able to portray and elicit such emotional response from the reader.
Can't wait for the next book.
I received an ARC in return for a voluntary honest review

I was so looking forward to the next book in the series and Izzy didn't disappoint! This time we catch up with Blair after she has been notified that she has been called to appear before the Order, the one group that she was certain would order her death if they found out about her existence. We get more information about Raven and Emily and relationships change during the course of her trials. I like the direction the series is going in - Ms Shows has created a completely different world than any other author I have read in Urban Fantasy and the characters are very complex and well written. I can't recommend this series highly enough if you are a fan of the genre.

Now the wait begins for book 6.....

Not what I expected

I liked this book, but I was also disappointed in a few things too. I'll start with what I liked because it was action packed as Blair went through the trials of the order. Each trial seemed to be well thought out and had you in its grip during each trial. I'd like to see more of the doctor appear in future books and I know Diego will appear in more. I'm not too fond of the others. It's just not my thing, nor is the change in love interest. I was hoping she would end up with Mal, but I wasn't expecting who Blair ended up with and may determine if I continue this series in the future. All in all it was a good book with suspense, action and new characters. I especially liked her familiar and wish more time had been taken on him and the staff.

A book that does not disappoint

I chose a 5 rating because I was never bored with the book. I marveled that it continued to hold my attention being the fifth book in the series. I now wait for the next book witH anticipation. Having read the others in the series in the past I happened on this novel by accident. I finished it in just a day not because of it being short but due to the desire to find out how it ended. Enjoy this read with some quiet time and a nice glass of wine. A beautiful escape! Enjoy

I'm in love with this book! the suspense was awesome and find out what Raven is was kind of mind blowing. The Order we're a bunch of stodgy wizards except for Diego, he's nice.
I was very upset with the way Mal was acting and found my pulse rising every time they argued. I can't believe he hurt her like that! And my most favorite part- when Blair called her familiar and he was a giant white wolf!! After my own heart, that's what I want!!
I'm so hoping Mal becomes nice to Blair again.

I received this ARC from author in exchange for an honest review.

I was on pins and needles right from the beginning. Blair had to face both physical and mental obstacles never knowing what she is going to face next. Her story was very well written and had me transported into her life and her escapades. I felt her tears, hardships and happiness. Can not wait to find out what will happen next. So many mysteries yet to uncover.

Could not put it down

Got this book today only problem I had was I could not stop reading it. Blair is one of my favorite character's I have read about in a long time. I hope I don't have to wait very long for the next one in this series. I hope the author will give us a short story a out her familiar at some point.

Exciting

I loved it. All the action and drama. Blaire had to face against the Wizard Order, finally. Time to decide if she was a mage, warlock, or wizard. This was so exciting and all the magic and surprises made this fun. I loved how it turned out.

From Gate Review

Good read with some solid forward progression to the overall storyline.
Got to meet some interesting new characters and there was a lot of action to keep it moving. I enjoyed Grim Fate and would definitely say it's worth a read.

Fun read

I really enjoyed the different challenges that Blair had to complete but I truly wonder who she is. There are hints in the book and I can't wait to find out eventually.

What an absolutely fantastic book. Blair has finally come to the attention of The Order and they've decided to come for her, big style. They are not well-disposed towards mages that practice unlicensed magic and Blair fears for her life. Although the end of the last book set up Blair's meeting with The Order, nothing prepared me for what happened to her with the High Council in this story. There was so much happening to her in her personal life at the same time with shocks and surprises, some good, some not so. I love the new addition to her household, who brings nothing but good for Blair, and I can see a great friendship for them with Fred (hopefully) who also loves Blair unconditionally. As with all of the Blair books, I couldn't read it quick enough but didn't want it to end. Each book can be read as a standalone but do yourself a favour and start at the beginning. You won't be disappointed.
I received a copy of this book from the author with no obligation but voluntarily decided to review it and the opinions are my own.

I was so ready to jump back into Blair's world for another adventure. This one had me stressing out to the end. After the events of the previous book, I was not sure Blair was up for the task at hand.

I really love the growth she showed in this one and some of the changes in her relationships with her friends. I was really hoping one thing would finally happen (avoiding spoilers here), but then the complete opposite happened. I. Was. Devastated.

I'm still holding out hope though. The next book cannot get here soon enough!

Thanks to the author for providing me an ARC of this book. This did not affect my review in any way.
