Are We There Yet: Marriage A Perfect Journey for Imperfect Couples

Rate this book
Most people get married with the assumption that marriage itself is a destination. But along the way, you discover that, as wonderful as marriage may be, it is more of a journey than it is a destination. Rather than being an island of unending bliss, it's more like a long road trip the kind of road trip where you are excited for the destination, love the memories along the way...and sometimes get annoyed with aspects of the journey.

In this practical book—a travel guide, of sorts—Paul and Terrie Chappell candidly share biblical principles and personal, transparent illustrations that will equip you to go further as a couple. Whether you are a newlywed or have been married for decades, you will find in these pages truths to help you clarify your destination, communicate your needs, grow as a couple, and even shed some luggage along the way.

No couple has "arrived." But every Christian couple can enjoy marriage as the incredible journey God intended it to be.

The book Are We There Yet? was an absolute delight to read. Formulated on the premise that marriage is a journey rather than a destination, the book has a travel theme is woven expertly throughout it. The Biblical tools for the trip are included in the book in an easy-to-read format.

I loved the personal stories of the Chappells and the pictures to go along with them. (The story of Terrie and the one-eyed horse had me laughing out loud!) Plenty of Biblical marriage principles combined with the conversational format made me feel as if the Chappells are personal friends, and we were across the living room sharing insights together. I also loved that they shared both strengths and weaknesses, not from the perspective that they have arrived at perfection, but as proof that marriage is a continual challenge no matter how long a couple has been married.

As a couple who has been married 25 years, we can say that this book has been challenging and encouraging to us as a couple. We definitely are not there yet, but with this book, we have a clearer picture of how to get there.

I really enjoyed reading Are We There Yet? ! Although sure, I'm not in a relationship yet, I feel that a lot of the advice and relationship principles Paul and Terrie submit to us can be applied to the many different relationships one has in life.
The analogy of marriage being like a journey is fun and helpful as each chapter focuses on a different aspect of travel/marriage, things that can go wrong and how to best prepare so as to limit roadblocks and delays, as well as how to work through these whenever you do face them. I appreciate how they look at things from the perspective of the husband, as well as the wife, focusing on how each spouse's needs can be different, both in how to make them happy, and how to resolve conflict.
Overall I found the book interesting and helpful and understanding marriage and loving relationships.

I loved it! Whether one is considering marriage, engaged, or already on the marriage journey, Are We There Yet draws the reader to the Word of God for solid marriage advice. I found the book challenging, relatable, and modern. The fun travel theme made for an engaging yet easy read. I appreciated the personal glimpses into the relationship of the Chappells, which provides practical examples and ideas to work through the challenges and obstacles life throws our way. Every marriage is far from perfect, and this book offers encouragement to keep going with the goal set in the forefront of our minds: the glory of God. I finished the book uplifted and eager to keep working to improve my marriage. And I have since purchased several copies for friends! I highly recommend the book.

Read this with my husband and did a discussion with another couple. A lot of practical and helpful tips for a flourishing marriage. It's one to revisit in the future to brush up on some of the ideas. Everything was Biblically based and I enjoyed the theme of "travel" as woven through the dialogue.

Marriage is a journey, and Paul and Terrie Chappell do a great job outlining how marriage is truly “A Perfect Journey for Imperfect Couples” in their new book Are We There Yet?

The Chappells combine solid principles, great illustrations, and an easy to read style to write a book that has helps for every area of marriage. As experienced travelers, Paul and Terrie open each chapter with a story from their adventures which is then used to illustrate a principle to help us in our marriage journey. They discuss issues such as communication, expectations, conflict, forgiveness, contentment, busyness, growth, and others. Most of their stories have a comical side as things do not always go as planned when traveling.

I found it hard to put the book down as each page seemed to have something new for me to learn and apply. Each chapter is centered on Biblical principles, yet it is written in a way that is easy to understand. Each principle is laid out very simply with applicable illustrations to assist in understanding and applying it in our own lives.

Every married couple needs to read this book! I highly recommend it.
