”All this debt and now I have to give up my life and marry the Duke to pay it off. His Grace is a terrible choice!”
Julia’s family have been in debt for years. Unable to pay it off, it just kept on piling up. Eventually, things get so bad Julia is put in danger. Her parents best course of action? To engage her to a Duke for protection and money. It’s a perfect idea - except for the fact Duke Adam Dixon and Julia Taylor don’t get on at all. It’s tough and Julia isn’t sure she can give her life to a man she barely knows, but she doesn’t have a choice. Her parents need this money, and the men who want it aren’t going to leave them alone. Really, it’s her only choice. Can Julia bear to marry a man she doesn’t like or trust? This is a short story with sweet and heartwarming BONUS books, all with happily ever after endings.
Writing Style? Many mistakes... They / the, redundant words... Stopped the flow a bit.
Plot? The whole timeframe was off. She talks about weeks of courtship but they only have two weeks to pay their debt? How is that possible?
The , of course, the whole premise makes no sense at all. We don't even know what title our heroine's dad has. And why would the Duke marry someone without any means?
The Interactions between the characters? Not authentic. The writing style didn't let me feel anything.
Also, there are no servants. None. It is not historically accurate. I mean think about propriety. They are alone in the Duke's mansion several times. She has no maid, he also doesn't seem to have anyone employed. Oh yeah, and there are no friends. And no dinners or other obligations...
The ending was way too abrupt.
MCs? She complains that he is haughty and aloof. She doesn't really talk to him either cause she is prejudiced. Both their faults, I'd say.
I don't get the chemistry between them. For me, it didn't make any sense when they admitted they had fallen for each other. None at all.
