When Emily Masterson wakes up in a strange bed with a dead man, she does the only thing she can think to do. She calls the one man who can help her. A man who betrayed her years ago—the only man she’s ever loved.
Gideon Sloan might be in the business of helping people, he just never thought one of them would be Emily. After using all his resources to help her, he swears never to see her again, but a second attempt on her life leaves him racing against a clock to keep her alive.
Even as the killer circles closer, passion reignites, but secrets from the past threaten to destroy their fragile truce. Only together can they find answers and—if they survive—a second chance at love.

Being a fan of Dee Davis A-Tac series I was excited to get my hands on her new romantic suspense series and it didn't disappoint. Right from the first paragraph you know your in for a great story.
From the moment Emily Masterson wakes up covered in the blood of Tom Irwin who is lying next to her dead, she knows she's in trouble. She doesnt call her rich father with all his connections but instead calls a man she hasnt seen for 10 years – Gideon Sloan.
Gideon Sloan now runs a company called Triad that helps people that were wronged or who have gotten themselves into trouble. His life was nearly ruined 10 years ago by Emily's father, who didnt like their relationship, and he has always assumed Emily too played a part. To say he is shocked when he gets a call from her is an understatement but all it takes is her plea to help her and he's there. Even though she ruined his life years ago old feelings are still buried deep and the call brings them to the surface.
I have to say the murder mystery/suspense/family/political drama/mafia was quite the mess. Gideon and his team are used to dealing with unsavory people but poor Emily wasnt and turns out almost all those close to her were guilty of nefarious behavior. Question was, which one tried to frame her for the senator's death and when that didnt work try to kill her.
The concept the series Triad is a group of 3 men who grew up in the system and forged a life long bond. They along with another childhood friend who is a cop help those who cannot help themselves. This was a strong start to the series and I look forward to more.
Fade to Gray is the first book in the Triad series about a group of three men who started a business as celebrity fixers. In the first story Emily Masterson wakes up in a strange hotel room covered in blood next to a dead US Senator. She immediately calls Gideon Sloan, her former lover, to help her decide what to do. Gideon and his friends help Emily escape the hotel until she can make some sense of what has happened to her. Over the course of the next few days, Emily survives several attempts on her life and finds out that the betrayal at Gideon's hand ten years before was actually manufactured by her father to get Gideon out of her life. Several suspects are traced throughout the story, and there is a pretty big twist at the end, but anybody who had been paying attention to the clues could figure out who the culprit was well before the end of the story. However, this is still a pretty good "waking up in a dead man's bed" story with depth of emotion developed throughout the book.
I have always loved Ms Davis’s stories, and this one reinforced my admiration of her as an author. Fade to Gray is not for the faint of heart. The book is filled with a couple of major complex plots and a few sub-plots as well, which at the end come together not only in an explosive way, but also in a resolution of them all. The major characters are Emily and GIdeon. Emily comes from a wealthy family, has a dominating , manipulative father and seems to still be trying to find herself, even though she is in her late 20s. Gideon, now owner of a “security/investigation” company was wronged by Emily and her father 10 years ago. Both Emily and GIdeon were lied to and left to pick up their pieces never seeing each other again. Until Emily makes a desperate call to Gideon . From that point on, the story is filled with intrigue, murder, lies, misunderstandings,, Russian mafia, dysfunctional families, old grudges , bag guys, good guys , and last but not least , a complex romance. My wish is that this book becomes part of a series. I can see great stories for Gideon’s friends Ryder and Declan as well as detective Logan. I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Fade to Grey is an enjoyable romantic thriller, when Emily wakes up in a strange room covered in blood and next to a dead U.S senator she phones the only person she feels that can help her. 10 years previously Emily and Gideon were totally in love but Emily believed Gideon had betrayed her and her Father, and Gideon was devastated that Emily didn't believe he was innocent of charges that ended him being sent to jail. Gideon answers her call for help and both come to realise they still have very strong feelings for each other. So begins a story of murder, intrigue, betrayal and passion. It wasn't too hard to figure out who was responsible for all the shenanigans but that did not spoil what was a really entertaining read. My thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book.
I am on the fence with this one. So many parts of it, I really liked. I did like Gideon and his merry band of misfits. I liked Emily to a point, she did come off as an entitled, whinny brat and I am not sure that was the intention. We heard of her other BFF only once. I guess if I owned a business with someone and knew them forever, I would have expected her to check on me after I almost die 600 times in a few days. I did call who the bad guy was within the first few chapters. I don't think that took away from the story, just trying to figure out the "why" was fun.
Emily Masterson wakes up to her worst nightmare. She is in bed covered in blood next to a dead man. The dead man is a US Senator and Emily has no memory of how she got there. She calls on Gideon Sloan, a man she hasn’t seen in 10 years.
This book catches your interest from the beginning. It is the first book in the Triad series. This book has it all, mystery, suspense, a dysfunctional family, political intrigue, romance and betrayal. Thank you to net galley for a copy of this book.
I always enjoy Dee Davis books, and this is no exception. Fade to Gray is an enjoyable mystery, although it's relatively easy to figure out the "bad guys" in this book. It's a perfect Saturday afternoon story to ready while out at the soccer game or on the road, or even curled up on the couch. The scenes are memorable so when you need to look away, you can easily pick it up and resume without back-reading to remind yourself what had happened.
This is the second book I have read Dee Davis. Dee Davis has the ability to create sexual tension and keep the suspense and mystery the man focus. Readers of mystery will keep the killer coming but with this story its the adventure and less about who the killer is but how they figure it out.
Faded To Gray kept me up all night with a desire to how everything would end which I wasn't surprised but I did find I enjoyed the ride.
The blend of romance and suspense is perfectly blended to create a story that readers will fall in love with.
Thank you to Netgalley and Pocito Press for the copy of Dee Davis Faded to Gray
