I adored this book, and was lucky enough to receive an ARC. Such a beautiful collection of Faerie Tale Short Stories . Each author had their own style of writing, some better than others but all wonderful. As each story ended I wanted to know more, I wanted to see the future. I think that is the way a short story should end, with you wanting more. It opens your imagination.
The Two Stories I loved the most were: The Last Citadel of the Innocent by Matthew Wright The writing was just beautiful and I just loved the plot - go and read it!
The Blacksmith and The Beast by Anita Templer What a gripping story, love, terror and a little bit of blood. Anita just captured the essence of Norwgian Fairytales. Her main character had Moxie, what a woman.
I was given this book in return for an honest review. Now I'm not a writer myself but I am a reader. And this is definitely one of my Top 3 books of the last year!!
I wasn't completely sure what to expect with this second anthology of dark faerie tales.I found each story completely different to the last, which was great. Out of the eight short stories I really liked Ken Mann's 'Lorelai', which did not go as I thought it would, along with Renee Marski's 'Fairy-tale Hunters'. Both were dark in different ways. This was an easy and enjoyable read, that I will read again.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the first story in this collection but am a bit saddened about how it ended I mean it leaves too much to the imagination that I feel like there must be another section of it? It can't just end with her being carried away. When I finished Mr. Koevari's section I must say I love this story!!! It was very intriguing about how it had a man speaking in the background. I couldn't put this down!!! The Imagery was amazing as to be expected from Peter. His Characters felt so alive and wondrous. I wish we could have gotten to know his parents a bit more but it was so worth the sacrifice to grow the story more. For such a short story so much action and adventure was created. This would make an amazing movie to watch as well. The Witch's Song was also another favorite of mine. It was well written with varying sentences and believable characters. It follows true to the story it was inspired by and of course was hard to put down!!! All In all I must say that this book was a great collection of writers and was hard to put down. The transitions were a little rough and I feel the order could have been bettered but it was in all a great book and worth the read.
I had requested and received audiobook version of this book for free from the narrator, in exchange for an unbiased review.
Before listening to this, I had listened to Endless Worlds Volume I and had absolutely loved that. So, I had high expectations from this volume II. It doesn't totally let me down, but is a little underwhelming, when compared to volume I. It's like sequels being tamer than originals.
Volume I had Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror. Volume II has all fantasy stories. Mostly dark twists to fairy tales. I did like listening to some of the 8 stories that this volume has. The very first story "The Last Citadel Of The Innocent" was a good one and so was "Gil And The Mystic Quill." But rest of the stories just sounded okay to me. Not bad stories, per se, but they didn't excite me as much. I just consumed those stories and moved on to the next one. They mostly failed to engage me or draw me in.
David Swanson did a good job with the narration, as usual. I can now trust that any book he narrates isn't going to have a narration problem at least.
This anthology was highly entertaining. Most of the stories, with the exception of the last one, dragged me through eagerly to find out how they ended. The last one felt a little incomplete to me. As soon as it started to get going, the author would jump to a different time, completely losing the pacing.
I might have actually giving this book 5 stars had it not been for that last story about what comes after happily ever after. Still I would highly recommend Endless Worlds Volume II to all fans of fairie tales in the vein of the Brothers Grim, where sometimes good does not triumph. I think they will enjoy this.
*I received an ARC from one of the contributors of this book in exchange for an honest review*
I received an ARC of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and chose to review it. These eight stories were creatively crafted by talented authors. These are faerie tales that carry a dark, ghoulish edge to them.
Each short story kept me enthralled but also some parts frightened me. The stories were different but equally entertaining, filled with action, well-developed characters and a fascinating storyline. They left this reader craving for more. That is the sign of a successful story.
These short stories, joined together in this book, created an unforgettable reading experience like no other I have ever read. Congratulations to all authors for creating a wonderful book.
