Right after I go on and on about how this author writes great female characters, this train wreck happens. I can't even keep reading. It's like some sort of medieval torture to continue. Just fucking kill me and get it over with already!
Our hero is a guy who has short-term memory loss and wakes up with a blank slate every morning. So, we get to go through his morning routine over and over and over again. "Fun." said no one ever.
Our heroine is a girl who is supposedly a psychologist and a "seer" meaning she could see the past when she touches someone's skin. She fails in every way for both of these jobs. First, as a psychologist because all of the thoughts going through her head at all times are selfish. Then, she finds this guy in the hospital with memory loss and she treats him like shit when he's rude. Aww, was the patient who was terribly injured, is scared, and can't remember what happened cranky and it hurt your widdle feelings? Get a new job, princess! You ain't cut out for dealing with real people. Because, see, even without a medical degree I get the fact that people might be a little cranky when they are in pain and afraid. Shessh!
She fills out her daily report after work.
Secondly, she fails at the "seer" title because she can't even do that right. All she "sees" is her having sex with the memory-loss dude and it haunts her day and night. She thinks this must mean she is going crazy, and avoids him like the plague. Really? If having sexual fantasies about unattainable men means we are going crazy, then all men are right about us: Bitches be crazy. Also, bring it on!
But, even those two things were forgivable for a book character if she hadn't been a boring asshole. She continually talks about how structured her life is. She heavily controls everything in her life: eats only healthy foods without deviating, meditates, yoga, vitamins, sleeping the perfect amount of hours. And, even that would have been forgivable if she didn't talk about it on every fucking page of the book. We get it! You are a boring, lifeless ball of cells that exist only in order to tell everyone about how healthy you live. Go eat some kale or something and shut the hell up!
She's one of these for sure:
Gets egged every year.
Even, hating her, the story was boring. It had the ingredients for an exciting story: sea monsters, death, treasure... But, it didn't deliver because of the fact that it was one of those time-travel type things where you read the same scenes over and over again, with maybe a thing or two added. It was brutally redundant.
Still, even after this hot mess, I am continuing on the series because I still like the town, this world, and usually the characters. Mistakes were made here, but it's salvageable.

Loved every word! Starting my re-read soon!
Highly recommend this story as well as any others by Jane Cousins.
Yes it is book 10 but don't let that deter you from its humor and suspense and romance. Previously introduced characters don't overwhelm the story, letting Quinn and Matias shine in the spotlight. And shine they do as they deal with unpredictable time travel and crazy, determined villains with plans for world domination. And more importantly, despite their concerns and fears, fall in love.
But if you've read earlier books then you'll be delighted to see how Gaia and Hadleigh are NOT handling their pregnancies. And glimpses of previous characters as well as potential future couples. Watch out Elijah!
Darcy's not quite ready for her romance yet but we see a bit more of the path that the author has her taking, a surprise but one that should ultimately appeal to a Master Manipulator.
Love the Southern Sanctuary stories, great reads full of humor, quirky characters, suspense and love. Have enjoyed rereading them all, catching new details with each read.
Looking forward to the next romance at the Southern Sanctuary.

Can't stop smiling - this was so satisfying. Loved it. Loved this author, this world and these characters. Quinn and Matias, sigh. It's wonderful how these two strong characters dance around one another. At first it seems like the odds are stacked against them - but fate keeps throwing them back together and the heat is undeniable.
Throw in some creative bad guys and a dash of time travel and I was just swept away by this tale.
But the author didn't just stop there - no, we had a heaping of Gaia and Hadleigh - both dealing badly with their pregnancy - Quinn has to step up to help them out. And we got to see the wonderful naughty elderly relatives doing what they do best, interfering. Eli's wedding. And Darcy, so bad and yet so funny. Not to mention Elijah and his new potential meld mate - Copper the intriguing Goddess.
Damn, loved everything in this book, yet the author teases, hinting at lots more adventures and fun to be had in future books, can't wait.

The characters are fully developed and loads of secondary familiar faces re-appear to add depth to this world. The whole series is just smart, quirky and entertaining. And the romance factor... very satisfying... and I'm smiling again.

I'm not usually a huge fan of either time travel or recurring memory loss, but Jane Cousins did it so right.
Because damn it, if he was fated to be a goldfish, he was damn well going to be the happiest damn goldfish that ever existed. Even if that meant just reading about his encounter with Quinn Bennett every day in god damn sparkly pink personal diary.
Loved it, love the Southern Sanctuary, and there are like a few dozen cousins still single, so hopefully the stories will keep on coming.

Damn this was fun. Jane Cousins has quickly become my go-to author for laughs and sizzling hot romances. This instalment - book 10, upped the action/suspense factor and added a cool bad dude along with his brainwashed deadly minions.
Quinn, our h, was fun, and watching her rigid world sway and crumble under Matias's assault on her diet and lifestyle was wicked hot, and often amusing. Love how her work opened up the opportunity for us to find out how both Gaia and Hadleigh are going with their pregnancy - wonderfully 'not' well. So funny.
Matias, was layered and cool. Forced by circumstances to play the gruff jerk, whilst our heart strings are tugged as we come to understand his horrific past that he cannot seem to get away from.
The author brings these two together and sparks fly -as does all sorts of fun, seriously never know what Jane Cousins is going to come up with next - time travel? Loved it. And finding the missing sister... and she might be a Goddess? Wonderful. Even better since the sparks are flying b/w her and Elijah.
We also catch up with a host of other fantastic secondary characters - the meddling Great-Great Aunts, Eli's wedding, and of course Darcy, can't wait for her book, she' s so bad and so much fun. Just loved it, yes there were laughs, but this was also the story of two people haunted by their pasts - so there were quite a few poignant moments popping up as Matias deals with his ever present past, and Quinn struggles daily with her fears of going insane.
There was a huge helping of secondary characters, can never get enough Darcy, and Copper has real potential... an actual Goddess? I hope so, there were already sparks b/w her and Elijah.
This world appears to have no boundaries, and the casual way the author introduces time travel, hybrid jaguar woman and a human sacrificing High Priest makes it all kind of plausible - if not just down right fun.
The only problem I find with these books as I find myself reading them way too fast, sucked onto the roller-coaster ride, generally laughing my head off. There's no way to slow down - which just means I'll have to read it again... yeah.

This one involves time travel. It's just as charming as the rest of the Southern Sanctuary paranormal romance series, and the characters are very entertaining, as always. The stakes are a little higher in every book, too. In this one, one of the brothers who owns the firehouse bar and restaurant gets paired up with the psychiatrist, and along the way, they cure his memory problem and "rescue?" his sister. (Who said she needed rescuing?)

This read was so much fun - honestly, I never know where Jane Cousins is going to take me when I pick up one of her books but I always find myself laughing and sighing over the hot romance. And this book was no different.
Latin hottie Matias was all things sizzling - tormented by a past that he must confront every single day. And Quinn, our coolly confident Seer, who thinks living a highly regimented life might just save her from going insane. These two circled one another, Matias teasing and tempting, Quinn saying no at every turn, though its obvious she longs to say yes.
The time travel component was unique, and I enjoyed thoroughly the evil High Priest and his bad-gal minions.
And LOVED all the secondary characters, tons of Darcy, and now there's a new couple I'm shipping for - Elijah and Copper. The author is always doing this - introducing great new potential couples and then making us, the readers, wait for their story... it's so unfair.
What else can I say except that I loved this book, and am a major fan of the entire series/world.

This book 10 in the series completely sideswiped me - though why, considering how much I loved every one of the proceeding books is beyond me. There just seemed to be so much more going on here - and a major mystery which slowly unravels as the book progresses.
Sure, there is the usual laughs, and snarky dialogue but there were a lot more heavy emotional layers underpinning this story given that Matias, our H, has his memory re-set every day, and the last thing he remembers? Is his parents being killed and his kid sister going missing. Which all happened 10 years ago now - as he finds himself in the Southern Sanctuary owning/running a bar along with his older brother. JC deftly creates a man who is suffering, confused, yet at the same time trying to move on for the sake of his brother.
Quinn, our h, adheres to a very strict rigid lifestyle, scared that her seer powers that allow her with a touch to see events of the present and past will slowly drive her insane otherwise. Yet, when she touches Matias she glimpses a hot sexy future.
Yes there is time travel here, and hybrid jaguars, and a mad human sacrificing high priest who wants to topple the Gods of the heavens and bring about eternal darkness (hey, who doesn't?) - but JC manages to bring it all together into a gripping mystery/action thriller with a side order of laughs and a brewing hot romance that is threatened by major obstacles.
Am completely hooked on this series. Yet the author always manages to drive those barbs in a little deeper each time she introduces new characters that she is obviously setting up for their own future book. They are like the most best & worst teasers ever.
Adore this world and all the eccentric inhabitants. Was madly giggling to myself as Quinn tries to get both Gaia and Hadleigh to come to grips with their advancing pregnancies. Awesome. Cannot express how much I love these secondary and past MC's popping up - they add so much richness to this world and never impinge upon the current MC story being told.

I read right after I finished
. And since I absolutely effing loved that 'ship and story, everyone else needs to take this review with a grain of salt.
While the story is still the kind of entertaining read Jane Cousins is known for, I wasn't really connecting with Matias. In fact, truth be told, I was more interested in what was happening to Gaia's pregnancy, Hadleigh's pregnancy, and what will happen to Elijah and Copper --- book 13!!

Jane Cousins never fails to amaze me. Another five star read for this awesome series. This time the plot is switched into overdrive, with a mega-ton of stuff happening, but wow, what a great ride. No one else could take a Hero, whose memory resets every morning, a murder mystery, half jaguar/women bad guys, led by a fanatical high priest, and make time travel intricate to the plot and still have me laughing my head off and basking in the heat of a sizzling romance b/w our leads.
I get uptight Quinn might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I appreciate how JC is always shaking up her characters and making them unique. Matias was surprisingly funny for a guy with memory problems and re-living his parents murder every morning (done with a light but serious touch, don't worry)

Time travel? I did not see that coming. The premise was very clever. Loved how Quinn and Matias kept meeting and circling one another - and finally a H with a reasonable excuse for acting the jerk in the beginning, trying to hide his re-set memory issues.
This had some dark elements, but there were also plenty of laughs, and witty dialogue.
Feel with every book this world grows wider, introducing new peripheral characters and sucking me in.

Now see initially when I read the blurb on this story I thought hmmm this just might be similar to Eli and Rafe's story. HAH!! not even close! What it is is a whole 'nuther kettle of fish.
And there was a lot of things I did not see coming throughout this story. Loved it, love Quinn, absolutely wanted to kick Matias in the groin at the beginning and I truly admire Quinn for not doing it no matter how much he begged for it. Laughed till I peed, chewed my nails in suspense, and sighed in bliss at the romance!

Quinn's very structured life is turned upside-down when she meets Matias.
What I enjoyed:
* Loved the views into Gaia's and Hadleigh's pregnancies
* Copper was fun and I look forward to her book in the future
* Lots of Darcy
What could be better:
* I never understood why Matias had to keep his condition a secret
* The fact that the points I enjoyed have nothing to do with the main couple is an issue. I didn't get any chemistry and found them somewhat boring.

Decent plot but meh characters
This was a fun story but I didn’t love the main characters and it got off to a slow start. The first third of their interactions felt like reading a series of AITA posts and I just never really rooted for them as a couple. I also had a hard time getting over how unprofessional Quinn was. The rest of the book was interesting and I love the series, but this book wasn’t my favorite

Ok
I liked Quinn and found her character engaging and authentic. I just never really connected with the others in this story. The transformation from grumpy to bubbles lacked a few steps for me.

I didn't like this as much as the previous ones, mostly because the second half felt off - more like world building and character staging than about Quinn and Matias

Book 10 and I'm more in love with this series more than ever. Somehow JC manages to introduce a new couple every book that I totally sigh over. Her characters are all layered, flawed, funny and kind of wonderful. Quinn's powers are really interesting, her seer magic is only useful for the present and past, but somehow she keeps getting glimpses of a future with her and surly Matias.
Of course Matias is carrying his own baggage, mystery of his murdered parents and missing sister hang over his head, worse his memory resets every day so he can't move on. The memory resets were done really well (had major potential to drag) but the author manages to keep things fresh and interesting - then pow, the story gets even better as suddenly we are time travelling and all sorts of mayhem is going on.
LOVED seeing Quinn, in her role as psychiatrist, try to help both Gaia and Hadleigh through their difficult pregnancies. We get a visit from the other 'bridesmaids' including Darcy. A heaping more of Elijah (hmmm, H potential) and we meet Copper, Goddess? Or just trouble. Can't wait to find out.
This fresh, fun tale was amusing, action packed and sizzling all at the same time.
