DARE

Rate this book
I just wanted to be told what to do. That had always been me. There’s nothing wrong with being yourself, is there? But it wasn’t easy, finding a real man. A bad man. One who didn’t care about right or wrong. One who would tell me what to do. Until Drew. He told me what to do. He dared me. He dared me all the way. Dark, erotica, horror... Mature audience only. This story touches on taboo subjects and therefore may contain triggers for some readers.

Danielle Walker would not back out from a dare. On a night of fun with her friends, a simple dare let to an adventure she would never forget where lines were blurred and depravity was the main attraction

I was intrigued when I first discovered this book. I was excited by the prospect of it being dark and fucked up. Well, I can say this book is definitely not for everyone.

I told him it was too late to save a crazy bitch like me, and that he should just get me fucked.

This book was all over the place when it comes to the timeline. The narrator went back and forth with a blink of an eye. This might be a problem for some readers. But for someone with a reading ADD tendency like me, I actually quite like it because it forced me to pay close attention to it.

He went in so hard and dry he’d tore me. It hurt bad. And that pain went straight to my temples. I knew I was going to pass out, but not before I’d moaned for more. Not before I’d bit a hole in my lip and hissed like a whore.

Throughout the book I kept thinking, what's the motive of all the happenings? There were a lot of debaucheries with memorable scenes (that would traumatize those with delicate sensibilities lol!), but in the end I just didn't get it. It was like listening to a joke without the punch line.

I picked up a hayfork and brandished the handle at him. ‘Maybe you’d like this up your arse,’ I told him.

It could have been something that blows my mind, unfortunately it didn't even poked my brain. I wasn't surprised by the revelation at all, but that's not a big issue. The problem is the story didn't have an anchor, which made the motive nonexistent, which in turn made the book banking on nothing more than a shock factor.

‘Are you really doing this?’ I asked.
‘If you dare.’

I wanted to be aroused and repulsed by this book. In that aspect, the author succeeded. I really did enjoyed the depravities lol! It's just unfortunate that the overall execution didn't work for me.

Dare is a story of succumbing to one's desires. It would appeal to readers who are not afraid to push their personal boundaries.

Note: I love carrots, but I don't know if I can eat them anymore. I solely blame this book if I'm lacking beta carotene in my diet from now on haha!

Well alright!
Let me start by saying that this plot is wicked af. I really enjoyed it.
Now let's continue with the fact that there is a lot of scorching hotness happening within these pages.
James created a masterful story and Dani; I didn't know whether to feel bad for her or call the cops at times. I think it the feeling bad clicked in when I read about her mother (P-S-Y-C-H-O), but seriously. Call the goddamn cops because what is wrong with this girl????
Overall, I had to give this five stars.

The plot is original.
The characters are great.
The writing is so vivid that you can actually see the scenes happening as you read them. (which in some cases may not be the best thing.)

However, a book that can keep me from putting it down the moment I pick it up, a book that can give me so many feelings of "WTF" in the best ways possible, is definitely worth five stars.

Damn.

I will never play a game of truth or dare ever again in life after reading this!

I have no words to what I just read...Like seriously WTF did I just read??!!! hmmm no idea... so here's my review in GIFs.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The book opens up weird like I don't understand where exactly the heroine is at but I continue to read because I am curious of how this is going to turn out.  However; the writing is confusing because there's nothing separating the present and the past so is like confusing.  At ten percent I'm like speechless to what I'm reading...

Image result for gif bitch crazy

Then the heroine does something that OMG ewwwwwwwwwww LOL

Related image

But sadly the crazy don't end there, when I think the book couldn't get any more weird well it shows me that there's more crazy in the way... so I'm like OMG is this for real?!!

Image result for gif effy shocked

At the end I was hoping to get more explanation as to why everything is happening or at least a reason behind everything and then find out that I read an entire book and I still had no clue exactly what the story was about.  What was real and was wasn't became the question.  Soooooooo overall I don't know what on earth I read. LMAO

James Crow delivers a brilliant masterpiece thrill ride into the darkest depths of erotic horror! The ride is about a young deranged woman named Dani who takes you on twists, turns, ups & downs & even leaves you hanging upside down a few times, but it isn't until you are slammed into the station house with a searing whip lash stop that you realize what a ride it has been. This is as dark as it gets & it's just simply brilliant. The author warns in the beginning that you are about to embark on a journey that is dark full of taboos & triggers. Take warning!! Because it is true. Mr. Crow's talents are unbound & he shows what a gifted writer he is by keeping you hooked to the edge of you seat waiting & wanting more. This book is meant for mature readers ONLY!

Thanks James, I loved Dani too!

As I sit here trying to get my head around this story I am super happy to be in this book world. Nothing could tempt be back to the days before I started blogging and before I got my kindle. Those days I stayed reading the same authors. Thankfully I'm now part of this book life that introduces me to books like Dare.
I'm waffling I know cos I really can't put into words what I thought of this book. Don't get me wrong. I loved it. I've just sat out in the sun this afternoon and inhaled it.

As a blogger I've read so many brilliant books. I crave different. I crave an author that can suck me right in, where I can forget the real world for just a little while. James Crow has done that. He's smashed it outta the park.

I'm not gonna go into the story. If you like books with all those warnings and you want something different then jump on this. I dare you:)

I did not want this book to end. On the bright side I got his previous books to jump into.

Wow, what a book DARE is, it totally blew me away. It's very different from Six and Six Toy and shows what a versatile author James Crow is. It is one of the most intriguing, original, twisted dark tales I've ever read. Dani is a fantastic messed up character, she really does DARE all the way through the book and some of the things she gets up to will leave you traumatised. In contrast James manages to weave in a sub story which I perceived had true emotion and meaning and I felt led me to get some kind of understanding as to how her traits developed and what was behind them. Its a difficult book to review as I'm conscious I don't want to risk spoilers. The characters are all strong, there is Drew, him with the sexy boots and together him and Dani are like modern day Bonnie and Clyde! The teacher Mr Tinley, poor Colin, sad Cherry, Mother and Uncle Kev and the Priest. It's got everything in it, eroticism, kink of the highest order, incest, religion, basically you mention a taboo and it's likely to be contained in this riveting story.
The whole book also has a wonderful trippy literally green feel about it with marvellous imagery brought to life from the increasingly inventive mind of James Crow. It's like James version of Dani in the sky with diamonds! The characters mixed and merged in a swirling cauldron and I had absolutely no idea how it would pan out but I can say the end totally blew me away, it was a master stroke
Full marks James, I'm so damn glad you dared to write this book and unleash Dani into the world. It's a well deserved five stars from me

So, I needed a moment to think about what to actually say about this book. All I came up with is WTF! There is no other book that will ever compare with the twisted, hot, craziness of these characters. It's going to make you question your morals, it's going to have you cringing, gasping, needing a cold shower, and possibly downing a bottle of whiskey while reading. That ending though! OMG! If you like it dark, twisted, hot, crazy, just one click this book!!

I love a dark read, but this has got to be the most twisted, mind blowing story I've ever read. Strap yourself in tight, as you are in for one hell of a ride. Join Dani as she tells you her story; one that is disturbing, full of wtf moments but is a compelling psychedelic tale, that will leave your emotions fried! James Crow has shown a whole new side to his talented writing skills - I dare you to read it.

DARE is every twisted, sexy, sordid, taboo and, yes, sick, thought that can cross your stream of consciousness, and then some. It absolutely blew my mind. It's a huge departure from James Crow's previous works, Six and Six Toy, and showcases his talent and ability to put such twisted thoughts into a darkly scintillating, scandalous and intriguing tale. It's brilliantly creative, and it evokes all manner of emotions, bringing us to a heightened state of awareness and arousal.

Dani completely redefines twisted. Her dares escalate throughout the book, and they delve deep into her twisted mind. Her antics are limitless and will leave you stunned, over and over again. We see firsthand how far she's willing to push the envelope. I loved hot as hell Drew, with his sexy boots, and the other characters in the book really round out this demented yet riveting story.

This book touches on so many illicit topics - eroticism, kinkyness, religion/desecration, incest, and more. The imagery evoked in James Crow's book brings everything to life on a whole new level that knows no bounds. What a fantastic read. Come on this amazingly whacked out journey, if you DARE.

HOLY CROW! Stiff drink and cigarette may be needed before, during and after reading...uptight readers need not apply! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Arc was received in exchange for an honest review 💚

If you're familiar with Crow’s Previous work Six and Six Toy, no warning needed. If your not...throw all insecurities and hang-ups out the window...right now would be an appropriate time, go on, do it! This is seriously one fucked up read...and I swallowed every dirty drop! (I may or may not be certifiably insane?)

‘Slap it,’ he said. I opened my legs and slapped myself hard, just like I had all those years ago for Mr Boots. It felt good. My clit was blazing

Where the hell do I begin hmmm? Ive waited a few days so i could process my thoughts before writing this review and im still at a loss? So I'll try my best to give a review worthy enough for the story/author, whilst trying NOT to scare potential readers off eeek!
It would probably help if I had a clue what just happened, well to be fair I know what happened...I went on one hell of a mind trip along with, I’m sure, everyone else who has ever read this book!

If you're like me you’ll get halfway and wonder if you are reading this right? Then you’ll get to the end and be wondering “WTF!?! DID I JUST READ?!?”

OK! Enough rambling...but I cant help it **as she rocks back and forth in the corner** 😕

I thought J. Crow couldn’t shock me after reading Six and Toy but, oh my! once again he has proven his imagination has NO boundaries and given his readers what they love about his books (or perhaps hate) pure, unadulterated filth with an underlying story of love, trust, chances...

When I got through the first few pages I thought “this is going to be an interesting read” I also thought i knew what was going to happen (somewhat) based on the title. BAHAHAHAA...I couldn’t have been more wrong! This book went into areas never ventured, and areas few would dare to go...Crow has some seriously BIG BALLS, I’ll give him that! And exactly why I have come to love his work so much! You can expect the unexpected and then some.

The characters are like none other and an experience in of their own.
Dani is the female lead. 29, doesn’t know the meaning of shy and interesting to say the least. Her home life was anything but idealic growing up, with no father in the picture and a mother you would rather do without. Sexual abuse was evident throughout her life in one form or another and these experiences growing up have made her sexually provocative and a somewhat deviant creature, which leads to the introduction of other interesting characters we meet throughout this book.

“Thanks, Uncle Kevin, I’d said and saw how his cock twitched. Just Kev, he reminded me. We held hands as we walked naked through the woods. I was in love with Just Kev. He became my hero.”

Drew, the male lead, was your typical alpha-male that we all seem to like in our stories. Big, tattooed, dominant and extremely sexual, but also showed beneath all the muscle that he had a heart. At first i was unsure about his character, but he came to grow on me and i ended up really liking him.

Dani also has a best friend, who is as sexually adventurous as Dani. We get to enjoy a couple of brief scenes when they explore some girl-on-girl action. It is during a game of dare between the two girls that Dani and Drew meet...

I'm DREW he said after i came. ‘Dani,’ I offered, before sucking his cock clean. I think I loved him right there. Dani and Drew had a neat fucking ring to it”

Dani and Drew are drawn to each other after a sexual encounter and they go on a “trip” of both mental and physical sexual exploits and discovery...we get to go along for that ride, so sit down, dont get too comfortable and bloody hold on, tight!

The story is somewhat bipolar in its layout. It switches from past to present to past quite abruptly throughout, which at first confused the crap out of me but once I realised what was happening it was quite easy to follow. So a warning...full awareness needed...put that drink down, the shrooms away and hide the Zanax! Well at least til finished, actually, Zanax may come in handy thinking about it?

Alright I better wrap this up. This was a great read that should be taken with a pinch of salt. It is definitely far from average or run-of-the-mill, full of interesting, quirky characters with unusual and odd fetishes. It does involve snippets of sexual abuse...BUT! and this is a big but! It somehow didn’t come across as wrong and I think its because of Dani’s character and the way she dealt with these encounters and i hate to say this...but wanted it just as much? **runs and hides** This is a touchy subject and each reader will have to decide for themselves, but please don’t let this deter you from reading. The ending you wont or cant predict and although it didn’t end with a cliffhanger, the author has left it with the option to continue the story.

Again im going to say...this book is NOT for the reserved. Its meant to be a bit of fun and should be read with an open mind. Its message may not be clear, actually I’m not sure if the author intended to give one, but i felt a story between two people who developed trust and love which was not previously experienced. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong? This is only my interpretation.

James Crow, your imagination is endless and completely naughty! You certainly are making a name for yourself as the King of kink, which is ever loved and a proven, given your army of dedicated and loyal fans...and I again continue to be one of those 💜

I will NOT hesitate to spoil a single bit of this. You've been warned.

I KNOW that there will be some (me included) who will see this review and say, "What? She HATED Six. Why the hell would she read another book by him?"

And let me answer that for you straight away.

Amazon. Because I bought Six, and spent a whole $0.99 of my own money on it, Amazon recommended me this. And I saw it and thought, James Crow....where do I know that name? Oh, right. The mayo vagina thing.

And why that right there wasn't enough not to convince me not to read this I don't know. But still, I thought, well, Six wasn't irredeemable in the writing department. And it's free. I should give the author another shot.

I really shouldn't have.

There are so many reasons why this is worse than I could have expected. Literally the only positive thing I can say is, it's not forgettable. Oh no. It's NOT forgettable, even though I badly want to.

The plot is scatterbrained and thinner than 90s eyebrows. There's a sad excuse of a "twist" in the epilogue. But there's seriously NO attempt at any kind of plot or characterization. At least Six attempted a plot? But this story is one demented, unsexy "sex scene", intermixed with drug trips and violence. There's no point to it.

And I could maybe, mayyyyybe, get on board with it's drifting style and fluid timeline if there was a single piece of concrete plot, characterization, or literally anything! My expectations weren't sky high to begin with here folks.

I seriously don't even want to think about this book more than I have to. But I feel like I'm obligated to support this hatred with proof:

Sticking vegetables up my bum, sir.
More, Danielle, tell me more.
Carrots and cucumbers, sir.

I have more than one up there.
You do?
I do, sir. I have five carrots up my bum.

There's also this:

Do it, booboos, he said, poopoo for Daddy Dick.

Which refers to her pooping said carrots out. In public. On a park bench.

I could also talk about Drew fulfilling his promise to fuck a hot girl on his dad's grave. Or Danielle stealing a crucifix from a church to masturbate, Exorcist style. Or the bizarre bit near the end with Danielle masturbating in front of a crowd of police while being shot with tasers.

You can't replace sexiness and kinkiness with vegetables in orifices and shock factor. Boundary pushing is well and good. I mean, bizarro fiction is a genre for a reason. But if you're going to go hard for the WTF factor, you have to have SOMETHING to back it up.

This was my last James Crow. I think it's best if we part ways here and now.

And I think I'm off both carrots and sex for a while.

Dare is truly like no other book I have read. Often enjoying the darker, kinky variety, this book completely tore the doors off my usual kinky ride. From the very beginning, Dani took me on an adventure to places some might consider nightmarish. Others might consider those places a secret fantasy. At times, I wanted it to be over so that I could think about the craziness, but wasn't able to put it down until I finished. And even then, my head was spinning. James Crow has a wicked way with words and an ability to weave a tale into a kinky, twisted mess. This book will stay with you for days, no matter if it's the nightmare or fantasy of it all.

Danielle “Dani” Walker is a risk taker and troubled individual. Upon taking a dare, reality and fantasy intersect showing the dimension of Dani's sexual cravings and her mind's ability to reconcile the truth.

“We’ll find someone to fuck you,” he said, “that’s if you dare.”

From the moment she sets her eyes on Drew, who happens to be Dani's dream man, a series of events is set in motion that fuels her lust leading to a place of bliss and satisfaction. What occurs is a blend of unadulterated sexual predilections that are limitless, taboo, liberating but cringe worthy at times.

“His big hands felt like vices clamped to my hips, my cunt a drooling slave to the monster he was sticking me with.”

Getting to know what makes Dani tick, is like walking a tight rope and bracing for the inevitable fall because getting to the other side is not necessarily her goal.

“I waved her bye-bye, and in my mind, I slit her throat and her blood hissed in the snow.”

The narrative is written in a way that is jarring with shifts between past and present, and while that adds tension to the swirling experiences of Dani, the end meaning is unclear. At times, I wasn't sure what was happening or the purpose behind it. Adding to the uncertainty and feelings of helplessness as a reader was the use of drug induced hallucination scenes that effectively alter the axis of balance.

The range of secondary characters surely provided additional mystery but raised more questions that remain unanswered. While the selection of the character roles serves to underscore Dani's troubled life, I just needed more verification of reality. For me, Daddy Dick was a standout and a certain image of him will be forever ingrained in my filthy mind.

Throughout reading, I was trying to decipher every scene, though trying to ground a character like Dani is nearly impossible. While my instincts were right about some parts, the ending left me unsatisfied and feeling like the execution is lacking. In not needing tidy endings in my books, I did want a bit more considering the carrot that was dangled from the beginning.

Dare is a book that will push the limits of depravity within human nature, as nothing is off limits.

This was certainly an interesting book. I’ve decided not to rate it, the story seems to have muddled my brain too much for me to decide on a proper rating.
I was his. He was mine. And he was going to break me. Break me so bad that when he was done, he'd be able to stick his pretty fucking head up there.
We follow Dani, who is a very uninhibited girl, and she’ll do anything if you dare her to. She has quite a few different adventures in this book and the story lines intersect with one another. We jump between various past liaisons and her present escapade with Drew. When Dani met Drew in a bar they immediately started playing with each other, each dare more outlandish than the last.
Daddy Dick has been naughty...Daddy Dick needs discipline.
So, my first problem with this book was the timeline, it was head-spinning. There were jumps between present and various pasts, with no break in the text. Once it was evident that this jumping was a pattern it was easier to follow but there were several different storylines in the past and it was unclear where they fit into Dani’s overall timeline. My second problem with this book fully took form about half-way through the book. There seemed to be no purpose to the story. Dani was engaging in some interesting sexcapades both past and present, but other than that, there didn’t seem to be any overarching story. And my final problem with the story came at the very end, the end of the book was so abrupt and rather than answering questions that had been brought up throughout the book, it only created more.
Mother said I was depressed, that I needed to snap out of it. In my dreams, I slit her throat.
Ultimately, this book was technically well written, but had too many problems for me to really enjoy it. There was definitely a level of shock factor, which was well done. The sexual adventures were intriguing. But overall the story was lacking. I wanted to have answers to the questions once I reached the end, and I wanted to have some sort of thread pulling me through the book, a continuous story to follow.

An (F)BR with Loyda!! Plus CC and war 😄

4.5 Stars!

All the warning labels should apply to this book.

This story is beyond twisted, it's dirty, dark, and delusional! A psychological blast that will leave you questioning everything. I felt off. My confusion mixed with the daring display of uncertainty kept me turning the pages. A heavy dose of incestuous memories, jumbled thoughts, and twisted manipulation.

Meet Dani, a complex character with no boundaries. She meets Drew, a man that pushes all the right buttons. As Drew dares her, memories resurface with shocking vigor. That's about all I can manage without ruining the storyline. But, every page, the memories dig the knife deeper, they flip the lights out, leaving you completely and utterly speechless. I'm actually at a loss for words. I re-read the end about ten times. I felt played. It's not too often that I end a book with my mouth wide open, staring at the wall, wondering if I can get answers out of thin air.

I feel like I need to warn you again. This book might make you sick, it might make you break out in hives, it might make you question your morals. There's no line that Dani won't cross. James Crow turned off the lights and tortured my mind.

I dare you to read it.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

I received an early copy of this book and it was worth the read. This book will really blow your mind. It takes you into the truly messed up life of Danielle Walker and as she trips you feel like you are tripping right along with her.

This book is not for the light-hearted reader. There is a lot of darkness that surrounds her and her actions. Probably beyond redemption and despite her depravity you find yourself glued to her story.

James Crow has a way of writing that invites the reader into that darkness and you follow willingly. Dare is one hell of a ride and grips you tight. It is not your average story and that is what makes it a sinful pleasure to read

So here's the thing. I finished this book a couple of days ago, but I haven't been able to even think straight enough to write a review for it. (After reading this book, you'll know what I mean).

If you've read James's previous books, then you'll know they are both erotic & filthy, pushing our boundaries sexually. But this is a new side of James, one we haven't seen before. A side that is much more darker, much more twisted.

I dare you to allow James to take you on the wildest ride of your life. There will be bumps, confusion and WTF moments along the way. Though I assure you, if you make it to the end….it's so worth it!!

Do you take the DARE?

This is one Dark, twisted, taboo, dirty ride that is packed full of hotness and crazy. The story is told through the point of view of Dani and saying she is an interesting character is putting it mildly. I love how through the writing you can really tap into Dani's mind and emotions, and you really feel like you are there whilst everything is happening. I really just loved everything about this book, it hooked me from start to finish and is definitely unlike anything I have read before.

You know those types of books you read where you finish and you find yourself blinking perplexed and wondering exactly what you just read, but you loved every minute of it? Dare is one of those books. James Crow's first two books were hot, mildly uncomfortable (in the best way possible) and left me with characters I found hard to forget. Dani, the main character in Dare is more than unforgettable. I'm not sure if I should be in awe of the lengths she is willing to go or desperately want her to be committed for her own well being.

If you previously read Six and Six Toy and are expecting something similar here, note it is not! Yes there are still all kinds of hot scenes, but Dare takes us to much darker and much more uncomfortable places. Readers of darker erotica will be intrigued with this story. It's rather unique and Janes Crow has a way of making you care about characters, even if you're not sure you really love them. I was firmly invested in Dani's crazy and rather disturbing life as she tried to find a man willing to push her beyond what anyone would consider sane limits. The ending will most likely leave you speechless. I admit to needing to just sit still and stare at my kindle for awhile after it. I highly recommend Dare if you like dark and twisted and want something different.

A mind fuck of epic proportions!!! James Crow is the Stanley Kubrick of the Author world.

Crow has the ability to suck you into a story, turn you around, spin you upside down, and spit you back out again... and you will have no idea what hit you! But in the best way possible, and that's exactly how I felt while reading Dare.

Dani is my new favorite psychopath! She puts Harley Quinn to shame. As I was reading, I couldn't help but think of the movie A Clockwork Orange, as well as the books Go Ask Alice and the Secret Diary of Laura Palmer (Twin Peaks). Whether you're familiar with any of those or not, you have to read this book! It's not often that I can't predict certain events or the ending of a book or movie, but Dare had be guessing at every turn!

Come and follow Dani on her wild ride of drugs, alcohol, sex, violence and other insane fucking debauchery!

This book is so different from anything that I've read before. The storyline, told from Dani's POV will keep you wondering just how far this girl will go, even for a DARE. It is not for the faint hearted and many taboo subjects are broached and only the most opened minded people will DARE to read this book.
There are many key characters that make up this captivating storyline. Drew, Uncle Kev, Mr Tinley, Colin, Father Martin, Cherry and of course Mother. Each and every person plays a pivotal roll within the course of Dani's life, so she says.
James Crow does not hold back with the kink, taboo, erotic, dark twisted story. I was sucked in and held captivated with everything Dani does and says and it's not until the very end that the path of her story comes full circle.
So if your up for the best MF ever, this is the book for you.
GO ON, I DARE YOU......

And he's done it again! If youve read Six and Six Toy by James Crow you will know him as the King of filth however he has gone multiple steps further with Dare and what an absolutely brilliant mind F*** of a book it is. This book is like NOTHING I have ever read before. I devoured it in one sitting and need to reread asap. The twists and turns in this book will have you flipping back to read again to be certain of what you have just read and even then you still may not be sure! I have seen James' writing progress through Six then Six Toy and now Dare and I have to say I think hes found his genre with this one-absolutely brilliant James loved loved loved it.

A MUST READ

This book as quickly became one of my all time favorite reads. You go on a rollercoaster ride with a girl named Danielle Walker and there are plenty of twist and drops and crazy turns on this ride. And through it all you're experiencing it through her eyes.

This book is not for the light hearted reader. It is dark it is twisted but it is hot as hell. Every page will keep you wanting to know what is coming next.

Read this book!! I Dare you ;-).....you won't regret it.
