Jordan Ford captured magic in Paper Cranes. This is a departure from her normal books, but you won't be disappointed. It's a captivating retelling of Rapunzel.
Tristan is in a deep depression following his parent's divorce. He is disillusioned and cynical about love after his mother cheated with her boss. Now he's living with his father acting the role of the adult while his father wallows and drinks his nights away. One afternoon after throwing his neighbor's baseball into the open attic window of the 'haunted' house next door and climbing the trellis to enter the attic, he makes a surprising discovery. The attic is not full of odds and ends, but is a magical room. Even more surprising instead of encountering the 'ghost' he has discovered Helena, a beautiful 15 year old girl, unlike anyone he's ever met before. Helena's mother has had a psychotic break after a family tragedy and has become convinced that the world is a dark, dangerous place. She and Helena have not been outside in years. Helena has existed in her imagination and in the pages of books. She is pure and innocent, untouched by society. Her inner beauty, kindness, imagination, her every view were astonishing. Tristan is drawn to her strangeness, but soon finds himself completely enchanted. She teaches him how to lessen his burdens and treasure his joys. The beauty, innocence, and simplicity of their relationship takes sweetness to a new level.
Their relationship is difficult, yet their love is true. Their relationship ends all too soon due to yet another tragedy. These two have had rough adolescence. Their parting is as poignant as their love is pure. It's hard to accept that this is the end of Tristan and Helena. But when you hold another's heart, can it really be over? Aren't they always with you? Does true love really die?
This was truly a touching book. It brought tears to my eyes so many times; sweet tears, sad tears. There were so many important messages. Savor every moment. Enjoy the little things. Hug. The paper cranes will become a part of my own life if I can figure out how to make them. I've never been good at origami, but I feel it's important to have a reminder from Helena for myself. Jordan Ford has shown her range with this book. It's poetic, magical, romantic; a modern day fairy tale. One you will enjoy disappearing into.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
If you're looking for a modern day fairytale that has a definite fairytale feel, but also deals with serious topics, this is the book for you. This book is very different from the books by Jordan Ford I've read before and there were parts I enjoyed very much, but also parts that left me feeling a bit meh. I think part of that is because I just read a very good book and another part is because I usually don't enjoy fairytale retelling as much, it's just not my genre. Having said that I do think the author did a great job with the retelling part, it has clear hints toward the original fairytale, Rapunzel, but at the same time not too much. It was still very much it's own story as well.
There were parts were they talk about fairytales and even mention Rapunzel and acknowledged their story is similar, which was a tad jarring to me. There's also talk of poems and fairytales and stories and it could get very romantic at times. But it didn't always work for me so well. There were also a same type of plot point that seemed to got repeated a few times and I think it only worked really well the last time. There were parts where I just felt like the story wasn't quite right for me, but it's a very beautiful and well written story.
Even with the few issues I had I quickly read through this book and there are some very beautiful parts. I loved the ending, it's harsh and painful at parts and also so very moving and beautiful in other parts. It's real and realistic and has that romantic fairytale feel as well. I also liked the paper cranes and the title and cover is so perfect for this book.
The book is told from Tristan's point of view only. I had kinda expected a dual pov, but this worked much better. Because while it's their romance, it's also very much Tristan's journey. I liked Tristan for the most part, he felt like a realistic moody teenager and it was awesome to see him change and learn how to live when he met Helena.
Helena I always envisioned as the actress who plays Luna in the Harry Potter movie for some reason, but it kinda fits. She's quirky and a bit weird as Tristan would say, but she also has a kind heart. She seems wise beyond her years and naive at the same time. She's all about stories, imagination, fairytales and romantic poems. And where Tristan feels jarringly real at times, she seemed more like a fantasy, like she wasn't quite real.
And then among the fairytale and happy themes, there are some serious topics spread throughout the pages as well. It deals with a mental disorder, how divorce can break apart a family and even some physical disability. I just felt at times a few of those themes could've been explored a bit more, but at the same time it was nice the tone mostly stayed light while still touching upon those topics. It was well done.
There's also a teacher who takes an interest in helping Tristan, who seemed so nice I was wondering if there really exist people like that. My favorite character was probably the girl Mika (I forgot her full name), I just wish we got to see more of her, but the parts we saw I liked. She seemed so nice and persistent even when Tristan was brushing her off. And there are these scenes were Tristan helps are that were great.
To summarize: this book is a modern day fairytale full with romance, finding your way and some heavier themes as well. It has a clear fairytale feel. It does the retelling part well, it is clearly a retelling, but also very much it's own story. At times I had some trouble really getting into this book. It's a great book, just not quite right for me somehow? I loved the ending though, it was perfect for these two, although if things had played out differently it would've worked to. It was interesting how some more serious issues got woven throughout the story as well, although I did feel they could've been explored a bit more at times, but at the same time I liked how the story kept it's light feel while touching upon those topics. The book is told from Tristan's point of view only, which worked great here. Helena was an itnerestign character, although at times she didn't feel quite real, more like a fantasy princess with her fancy of way of talking and how she seemed so wise for her age and so naive at other times. It really is a great romance and a beautiful story, even though I felt like it didn't quite hit all the right notes for me.
Paper cranes is a little different than Jordan Ford‘s other books but she did an amazing job of telling this beautiful fairytale-lovestory and making me fall in love with Tristan, despite his initially faint heartedness ;) This book tackles some tough themes and I‘m sure many young people can relate to Tristan‘s feelings. He is hurting and lonely and miserable and then he meets his „ghost girl“. For her, he finally wants to break free from the dark and we get to see the caring young man he is underneath.
All he could think about was reaching Helena, stepping into her embrace and feeling her arms wrap around him. Jasmine would envelop him and he‘d be lost and found all in the same moment.
Helena is something special, such a sweet and adorable girl. Awww she made my heart smile with her unique way to speak and her paper cranes.
Their beautiful love story is a little sad at times and my heart broke for both Tristan and Helena, but Jordan Ford put all the pieces back together and I finished the book with a smile ♡♡♡
It‘s written in 3rd person and it is fitting for the story but I must confess, I prefer first person, that‘s just me though and I recommend Paper cranes to everyone who enjoys a sweet and touching YA love story with a touch of fairytale.
I'd happily read more of Jordan Ford's fairytale twist novels.
I couldn't give less than 5 stars to this wonderful book.
It got me in since I started reading it, and then I just fell in love with Helena and her sweetness and kindness personality, and how much Tristan enjoyed been with her.
Their friendship starts when Tristan throwed a baseball ball of kid and it landed inside the window of a tower of the house next door, so to get it back he had to climb to the window. After that first encounter they got to keep seeing each other again.
I found so cute the way they fell in love through the paper cranes, poems and books. They both helped each other in a way; Tristan started to get better grades, and Helena made a friend and have a little bit of a "normal" life.
But this book isn't just about the romance. It has so much more, like the divorce of Tristan's parents and how much this affected his life and relationship with them. There's also Helena's mother, who after her husbands death she never let her daughter to go outside and have a normal life because of how afraid she was of Helena getting hurt.
The twist (which I won't say what is) was very unpredictable. And for a moment I really thought that was going to be the end of the story. Tears were everywhere, so please keep in mind to have some tissues near you.
If you'd like to read a fairytale inspired novel with a twist, then I highly recommend to read this one. Jordan Ford never disappoints with her books.
Ms. Ford has done it again. I had somewhat low expectations for this book after seeing it was a modern version of the fairy tail Rapunzel. But boy was I wrong. Although it is based on the similar story line, Ms. Ford wrote it in such a great way that does not seem like a fairy tale. The story line is smooth and just pulls you in and you just need to read page after page. There were so many emotions going on, excitement and dreams that I could not just put the book down. If I could give this book more stars I most definitely would. I cannot wait for her next book! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and this is my honest opinion of this book
This book is a must read! I love the elements of fairytale interwoven with real life love and tragedy. The characters are very well written and you'll find yourself completely swept away into their thoughts. The ending.........I can't tell you 🙄 but it's my favorite! Thank you Jordan Ford! This will be a book I read again and again. 💜
4.5 stars -- I received a free copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.
So, as with all my reads this week, I was very distracted while reading this book, and had a hard time getting sucked in. But somewhere after the halfway point, this book took hold of my heart and didn't let me go, making me stay up until 4:30 am to finish it. To say this book finished in an amazing fashion is a bit of an understatement. I arrived at the end with tears on my cheeks and my heart full to bursting. I can't even begin to describe how happy this book made me.
So I'll start at the beginning and say that Tristan's character threw me off at first. I'm not sure why exactly, but his voice was completely unlike what I had been expecting. He felt a bit younger maybe. But honestly, I'd just finished a run of adult books, so it could have been the juxtaposition, you know what I mean? He was also less stereotypical guy-y than what I was used to, and what I was assuming I would get. I wasn't sure how I felt about him initially, but as the book went on, these unique traits made me fall in love with him. He had such a sweetness to him, a sensitive side that I wasn't expecting. I really appreciated that he didn't fit into any boxes. He could occasionally be very stereotypically teenager-y, a bit whiny at times, a bit overdramatic at others, definitely moody. But while those traits are hard to read sometimes, I appreciate that it made him more real you know? And you really felt his growth throughout the book as a result.
I was also completely surprised that this book was entirely from Tristan's POV. BUT I LOVED THAT. I didn't expect to, I'm a dual POV lover. But it worked for this book. Partly because Tristan had such a journey to go on, and I appreciated having a boy coming-of-age type novel. I appreciated that we got the unexpected, a Rapunzel retelling that wasn't about Rapunzel so much as her hero. And I still felt like I knew Helena enough, just through Tristan's eyes. I understood her struggle. I understood how she came to be the beautiful light that she was. I understood why she made the choices she did. I fell in love with her sweet soul and her innocence. And my heart broke for her even if we didn't get to see what she went through when they were separated...by that point I knew her well enough through Tristan's eyes to understand what she would be going through. I loved how well developed she was, that while she had such a beautiful outlook on life, it did not make her immune to the bad things. She wasn't perfect.
While this book is a beautiful sweet YA love story, Ms. Ford also delved into some pretty deep topics that really got me thinking. I thought her portrayal of the impact a divorce and cheating parent can have on a child to be spectacular, especially in the beginning. I felt for Tristan, and the choices he had to make, the feelings that he couldn't help, and how that was tearing him apart. I will admit that I wish we had a bit more resolution with his mother, but I loved the development in his relationship with his father.
And I ADORED the spin she took on Helena's mother's character. It made the situation so believable, and so UNBELIEVABLY heartbreaking. It wasn't black and white, and there were no easy answers. There were only long, HARD solutions.
I know I said above that this was a sweet YA love story, but I really only meant the love part. This book is full of so many emotions and angst. I can't even tell you how many times I cried. Be prepared. There were moments where the drama and romance felt a bit over the top, but I honestly didn't care. I was all in.
As a side note, I adored what Miss Warren and Mikayla added to the storyline. I appreciated that Tristan had them in his life, and I loved how they added to his development.
So yeah. I may have started my reading experience a bit shakier, but by the time I was finished I felt like my heart had been through the wringer, broken and put back together. I loved it. End of story.
I'm in a Kpop fandom and there's this way of classifying stans: soft and hard. Well if you're a soft stan, you mostly see your fave as a fluffy, "smol", ball of sunshine that you want to protect from the bad things on earth, and you use the word "soft" as an emotion. Then, if you're a hard stan, well, just think of 5o shades of Grey type of adoration for your fave.
So for "Paper Cranes" I feel so soft for this novel. It is based on Rapunzel so the premise was very familiar. But the characters were so pure and precious I wanted to keep them in my pocket. It is a breath of fresh air from all the angsty teenage drama of some YA novels.
This is a good and enjoying read, my only issues were some of the scenes were overdramatic, and the adults were forced to be helpless and narrow-minded when in fact there were other ways to solve the problem, just to keep the story going and to add more drama, which as I mentioned was excessive sometimes.
Anyway, I liked it and enjoyed it and rooted for Helena and Tristan until the end.
Paper Cranes is a fairy tale retelling, taking you away from the contemporary romance/suspense that Jordan Ford has previously published. It starts with a sullen Tristan, who has had his life disrupted due to his parents' divorce. He moved away from his mum and her new boyfriend to stay with his dad but didn't realise that he would end up looking after him. All seems lost as he sinks deeper into bitterness and sadness. However, when he goes to rescue a lost baseball, he finds more than a ball. He finds the light of his life, and so the adventures begin.
As bad as this may sound, each time I start a new Jordan Ford book I think to myself that I can't possibly enjoy it as much as I did "...", and yet each time Jordan Ford proves me wrong. I LOVED this fairy tale retelling, mainly because of the tongue-in-cheek references to Rapunzel that the characters themselves tease each other with. Seeing the rises and falls that Tristan goes through, the calm acceptance of Helena, the joy, love, and laughter that these two share... it's just wonderful. I also have a re-appreciation for Shakespeare and poetry! Now, this book isn't all sweetness and light, so don't think it is, BUT it does show what can happen if you keep the faith in love, hope, happiness, and fairy tale endings.
Exceptionally written, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Paper Cranes is a enchanting retelling of the classic fairytale Rapunzel. A modern day fairytale with a twist that is magical. I love the reference to Paper Cranes & poetic quotes throughout the novel. A bewitching tale with a well interwoven plot twist & ravishing characters that will keep you spellbinded. A sweet tale sure to tug at your heart that you will need a tissue box. Perfect afternoon read with tea. I volunteerly reviewed an advanced reading copy of this copy.
I have always loved fairytales. When I was little fairytales were the realm of happy endings where the guy gets the girl in a heroic display and they ride of into the sunset. Often in these stories the hero is a knight who is tender and caring to the princess who they protect. I have always loved the genuine care they posses with the person they love and how special they treat her. Any girl wants to be treated like this and it is nice to read a modern day adaptation of how just a regular guy can become a white knight for the girl he loves. In Paper Cranes, Jordan Ford does an incredible job of establishing a meaningful connection while also including a heroic act and sigh worthy moments. One of the amazing things about this story is how Tristian and Helena help each other. They are both going through difficult times, and they both handle it very different ways. However, upon crossing paths they are able to challenge each other and help each other to see a different perspective on life that ultimately grows them both. This story shows one of the most important aspects of love which is growing together. A relationship takes work and in it you push your partner to be better and achieve their dreams just as Helena and Tristian do for each other. This story tells of perseverance and sticking with each other through thick and thin while also having many light hearted sweet moments that make you sigh. In this book I especially enjoyed reading about Helena and how she isn’t afraid to be who she is and how Tristian not only comes to love that about her, but he adopts that outlook as well. She is able to inspire him constantly and gives him an entire new outlook on life. Overall this story has great depth and meaning to it while also being sweet and causing the reader to sigh and smile gleefully repeatedly. It is a perfect mix of romance, with a little bit of fantasy and imagination while also addressing real world problems that teenagers face in their lives from the world around them. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it to any romance fans who enjoy an established relationship and connection between the couple, while also working through their struggles together. I also recommend it to those who like sigh worthy moments that make your heart sing as this book possesses plenty of good lines, poems, and acts to do just that.
Paper Cranes is pure magic. Set to the tones of a fairytale, and lined with references to Shakespeare, Jordan Ford's latest will draw you in until you don't want to come up for air! Written in our hero Tristan's POV, Paper Cranes is poignant, lyrical, and all-consuming. Not to be missed, either by longtime fans or first-time readers.
Tristan Parker doesn't believe in love. Not anymore. It's hard to, when his parents have just gone through a biter divorce and left him as part of their fallout. Tristan is living with his Father, ignoring his Mother, and just trying to get through his last year of high school so he can get away from both of them. The town where his Father grew up is simply a stepping stone. At least, until he meets the girl next door. Helena Thompson, the girl rumors call a ghost, who spends her days up in a tower, comes into his life when he climbs up to the attic to retrieve a baseball that he threw through her window. She's like no one he's ever met. A fancy British accent, an old-school way of speaking, an imagination far more advanced than his own, and hundreds of paper cranes that mark her joys and her sorrows. Helena is trapped by her Mother's fears, developed when her Father died years ago. In her Tristan finds his first friend, as well as the challenge to be the brave knight she says his name means he should be, rather than the faint-hearted adventurer she first called him. As their relationship grows, she shares her love of fairytales, poetry, and epic love stories. It takes some convincing, but Helena begins to restore Tristan's faith in humanity, the validity of love, and remind him that tragedy isn't the only kind of ending there is. But she stays willingly trapped, in deference to what her Mother needs. A fact that frustrates Tristan, because it puts limits and an expiration date on their relationship, which has grown stronger and deeper over time, into a love that defies the epic strength of Romeo and Juliet's. If her Mother, oft referred to as "the dragon" discovers their relationship, all will be lost. Is their love due to meet a tragic end such as the one the Bard portrayed so long ago, or the one Tristan watched happen so recently? Or can they endure? Read and discover whether Helena and Tristan have a happily ever after or a tragic end in Paper Cranes!
This book was AMAZING!!!!!! Wow, I can't ever describe how much I loved this book.
Helena and Tristan's love storey is of epic proportions. Literally overcoming everything to be together.... ahhh. (Wipes away a tear)
I don't even know where to start telling you everything that was so right with this story.
The fairytale feel... The innocent love... The magic... The multiple life lessons...
Jordan rendered me speechless and those closest to me will tell you that's an impossible task.
Repunzel is probably my favourite fairy tale, definitely my favourite Disney Princess. I have always admired the way she copes with what life has thrown her way. Helena, who could easily be a miserable teenager -convinced life was terrible, embraced her situation and made it magical. I often live in a dreamworld and find myself more at ease getting lost inside a story, and Helena just reaffirms that there is something truely wonderous about that. I love her message that if you don't like the ending, re-write it. Find the good in life and discard the crap.
And Tristan. Oh the feels with that one. Jordan has made him so realistic and adaptable. Again, someone who could have easily written Helena off as the Crazy Girl with the Crazy Mum, embraced her weirdness and found his own way in life. He found his way with words and his ultimate purpose, to tell their love story.
There is just so many things great about this story and I know it's one I'll read over and over again. This is definitely a story I'd love to share with my daughter when she is old enough to truly understand all there is to learn from this book.
Jordan has nailed this story and I cannot wait for the rest of her Fairytale Twists to come out.
Wow, wasn't expecting this, but loved it. Sad, but hopeful, and at times heart-breaking, but inspiring.
Tristan was one of those kids that I truly empathized with. I may not have had to experience life as a child whose parents divorced, but know a few who have and how difficult and sad it can be for everyone. Tristan makes a decision that smaller children cannot, but is tough regardless. To have to choose between your parents is hard on any kid, but in his case, also having to be the parent just makes it that much harder to cope with the change. Case in point, he doesn't want to get involved with activities or people. I was extremely glad when he met Helena and did start to interact again, at least with her, but there were moments there that worried me as well. Two steps forward and one back. And Helena's situation just couldn't be healthy and the fact that her family did not step up sooner extremely sad. I really liked her outlook, but agreed with Tristan that something had to give. I just wasn't expecting what happened at the end.
This was definitely one of those books that did a good job of converting a fairytale like Repunzel into a modern version, but with twists of Romeo and Juliet. I'm definitely not a fan of tragedies, especially teen ones, and so very glad that this one ends on a good note. Tristan does become a better version of himself and learns to re-adjust and let people in, thanks to Helena.
I have so much to say about this book, I'm not even sure where to start! I'll admit that the Young Adult genre is not my first pick (but I DO like it!), since I often have a hard time connecting with the characters. However, I love YA author Jordan Ford (I've reviewed three or four books from her) because her spellbinding words flow so easily, they invite me into her world and keep me there until the last page. I found myself reading this beautiful book with both a smile and a few tears. There's so many issues that Ms. Ford touches on...bullying, adultery, divorce, depression and mental health. Yet, I didn't feel too sad or melancholy because Helena had such a delightfully sweet and refreshing way of looking at the world. Her genuinely romantic heart made me swoon! But Tristan was my TRUE hero. He was strong and worthy yet at the same time, broken and dejected. Loving Helena put him back together even better than before. I felt such a HUGE kinship with Tristan, maybe because I've experienced similar heartache. He felt REAL and if he was, I'd be his best friend! This is a pretty clean (no sex, very little cursing) tale of unconditional love, hardships and the power of love. DEFINITELY added to my READ AGAIN E-SHELF and probably one of my favorite reads this year! Told from Tristan's POV with a happy ever after.
This really captivated me right from the beginning. I love the fact that it was written from Tristan's perspective. He is a teenage boy struggling to adjust to his new life after choosing to live with his father after his parents' divorce. He is shut off from the world and wishing away his youth until one day, a wayward baseball throw into a neighbours tower window leads him to meet a girl that will change his life forever.
Helena cherishes every day, loves books poetry and making paper cranes to celebreate the happy moments in her life. However since her father's passing, her mother has kept her locked away in the house afraid for her safety. Tristan climbs her tower and becomes her modern day prince and they form a very special bond while reading poetry together.
This modern day twist on the rapunzel fairytale was just magical. I shed some tears and was so happy with the ultimate ending. Wonderful YA read and if you want a beautiful teen first young love story, then I would highly recommend paper cranes.
Paper Cranes is the newest young adult book by Jordan Ford. It is a bit different than her other titles. It is very much a fairy tale twist type book mixed together with contemporary teenage aspects and serious subject matter. This story is about a teenager named Tristan who moves into a new town and befriends his neighbor, Helena, who never leaves her house. What starts out as friendship slowly turns into a first love for them both. When Helena's mother finds out, everything changes for these two teens.
Paper Cranes is a sweet book but if you are not in the right frame of mind going into it, you may not enjoy it as much. The teens sound very adult, especially when talking about Shakespeare and poetry. With that in mind, it does fit with the type of writing and the type of story. I enjoyed the ending and thought it was perfect and appropriate for the characters. If you are looking for a coming of age, first love, fairy tale type story, then Paper Cranes is a great story to read.
“I know it must seem odd sometimes like we’ve never really fit into this world. But there’s magic in words and storytelling. I’d be lost without books, Tristan. They’ve kept me afloat through my darkest days. Escaping into another world full of love, enchantment…heroes. It keeps me breathing.” (Kindle Locations 1450-1452).
Tristan decided to live with his dad when his parents divorced because his mom had someone to come home to and his dad did not. Tristan feels more and more burdened taking care of his dad. He doesn’t want to participate in school or be social and would rather be the typical morose teenager until he meets the girl in the tower next door, Helena. She is straight out of a fairytale with her mild English accent, proper English, and romantic notions.
Tristan, outside of Helena feels incredibly real and like sullen teenager, but with Helena he is full of puppy love. Most of this book was focused on the ridiculous and hard to read over-the-top puppy love. Helena never felt real to me and she was a flat character and though Tristan idolizes her and her unique ‘personality’ she felt unreal and exaggerated to me.
Tristan is incredibly dynamic. He’s your typical broody teenager, but his backstory is rather interesting. Every moment we were in his head as he interacted with his dad or his mom, I was engrossed in the book.
The plot was quite predictable, a bit dull and unremarkable. If only more of the book was devoted to Tristan, it would have been a much better read.
This book was different from others I've read by this author. The way it started I had reservations, I love this author's work but thought oh what if I can't get into it. The story soon evolved and my heart was captured. Poor Tristan is a teen boy who is barely surviving his parent's divorce. New school, haunted house next door and no friends..he's a moody boy but what teen isn't. A modern day twist on Rapunzel. Who is that girl in the tower? Why doesn't she come outside? I thought she was a ghost until the story unfolded. With this girls mother I just couldn't see a happy ending. The angst of young love then the tragedy just about ripped my heart out. It can't end like this....I didn't see that ending coming at all. I truly love this author's work and this story was a brilliant tale of 'feels'.
Jordan Ford's books never disappoint. This is another well written story and full of surprises. Sometimes I had to hold my breath waiting for the events. Tristan is dealing with the pain of his parents' divorce by closing himself to the world, but when he needs to retrieve a lost baseball, he climbs a tower and has a big surprise. Helena lives isolated in her "castle" because of her mother's paranoia, which doesn't allow her to leave home and have contact with the outside world. When Tristan and Helena meet, friendship is instantaneous. The two become better people and explore each other's world. But when Helen's mother discovers these secret encounters, things don't go well for them. The events surprised me a lot and the end left me relieved. This is a great story. I highly recommend the reading.
Well hell! That book needs a warning label. I had to wait a few moments before writing this review in reference to this book. It is so artfully crafted and written. But I did go through half a box of tissues. It was one hell of an emotional ride.
This is Helena’s and Tristan's story. This book is told solely from his point of view. Tristan has been through a rough patch with his parents’ divorce. He is in a funk and so is his dad. Till he climbs a tower to retrieve a ball and that is when he finds Helena. And oh how sweet their story is till her mom finds out. Her mom is ill mentally and one thing leads to another and something horrible happens. I wanted to scream when it did. And I stayed teary eyed to the end of the book so be prepared. I love that Jordan included poems and quotes from some great writers. It is those little touches that set her books up above the rest.
Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do; they value your opinions too
Absolutely loved this book! It is such a great spin on a classic story. My heart melted and smiled all throughout this story of Tristen and Helena. They fight for wach other despite their differences and outside influence, only to have tragedy strike them. I enjoyed Helena and her way of seeing things. I loved so many ideas within Paper Cranes such as not holding onto things and letting it go, not holding grudges. It really bring to heart that you have to be true to yourself and live in the moment and not wait until you think it will be "right." Jordan Ford wrote a wonderful story with a modern twist that makes you fall in love with these young people and feel for them in the situations they are in. It is very relateable to today's day in age.
I voluntarily reviewed this ARC Book. This was a beautiful book. A wonderful retelling of Rapunzel. I laughed, I cried and I dreamed. This is a must read and already has a home in my library. Jordan Ford's books keep getting better and better.
Tristan Parker is looking for something to bring meaning to his life after his parent's bitter split and divorce. He chooses his Father and moves away from his familiar home to a new home in a small town. Helena Thompson is a ghost. At least that is what everyone thinks. After a chance meeting over a baseball, the start of a life changing love begins. Tragedy separates them but fate has more plans for them.
I was privileged enough to receive a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
This was definitely a departure from Ms. Ford's other books. Here we have Tristan and Helena in a twisted tale of Rapunzel. While I did have a somewhat hard time getting into the book, it didn't take me long to love Tristan. As I was reading this I was thinking back on another book like this, A Thousand Boy Kisses by Tillie Cole. While it was a great book, I hated the ending and it seemed to me this one was heading in the same direction. I was so glad it didn't. Tristan needed his HEA. Overall a good book, just don't forget the Kleenex when you read.
I love Jordan's books. This one I loved as well. She created a world to get lost in. She shows real pain and true joy.
Tristan is a strong male lead. His struggle of his mom's betrayal and loyalty to his dad show how great his love is. His pain and anger shine through and his need for the joy Helena has is so evident.
Helena's love is her shining feature. Her mother's illness hasn't stopped her from having a joyous life. She's just the light Tristan needs.
This book was a good read for a rainy day with a cup of tea.
A sweet, beautiful fairytale without the fairies. I loved the poetic story with all its ups and downs. With its magical wonder and eveyday plights. Keeping me entranced and holding on til the emotional end with all its magnificent feelings.
A really wonderful and touching story. Such a different take on a fairy tale. I enjoyed reading it very much and really got attached to the characters... If you need a cute <3 heartwarming <3 fun <3 story this is the book for you!!!
Lovely retelling of a great classic, Rapunzel. Need a box of tissues to get through the story and I was thrilled to be able to help review. Anything by this fantastic author is super for me.
I really enjoyed this sweet modern day story with the fairy tale twist. Tristan and Helena take you on an emotional rollercoaster during their journey. There are twists and turns along the way, some will leave you smile and some will pull on your heart strings and leave you feeling emotional. These beautifully written characters are likeable and well written, their story line was developed and the story will stay with you long after the last page.
** I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this sweet book **
Paper Cranes is a beautiful book. It's taken me all week to write this review because I just don't think that my review will do it justice. Jordan has written a book that will make you laugh, cry, smile, and hug your kindle.
I know that I cried in this book. Jordan put twists and surprises in this book that I don't think that I could have ever seen coming. Just like all of Jordan's book, you will love this book.
