This really just reads like someone read a book on the concept, then wrote a series of blog posts on it. Overall disappointing, but a short enough read that I don’t feel like I wasted too much time. Would be a decent introduction for people who had never heard of the concept before.
More like hygge headlines than a true hygge guidebook
Very light on actual description of hygge. Author doesn't delve into any faction of the hygge lifestyle but gives cliff note of hygge principles. More of a collection of hygge headlines with quick blurbs that are often not even scratching the surface of the emotion and reasoning behind the hygge idea.
Obviously I should have known how self focused this would be .. the whole time I just kept thinking about the gospel and thanking Christ.. I did find the info on the yellow light useful though.. and the fact that my weird house is apparently hygge .. not that I am concerned with being on trend but I’m always for comfort and snuggliness (new word) so that’s cool. Aaaand I do love the confirmation of the casual hang.. which tends to be my speciality.
This entire "book" is essentially bullet points for different areas of life. You would be better off reading any blog rather than this. The cover is cute, but I didn't realize it was only 81 pages. Either read more specific things on the internet or invest in a whole book about hygge.
This really is a very basic introduction into Hygge (or Hu-Guh if you are a native English speaker and want to know the correct pronunciation). This book is a fairly light read and details the enjoyment of the small things, spending time indoors, with a hot beverage and a good book, very apt for the current climate. However, it was a quick light read, and really offered nothing new or different to the wealth of resources already available. If you seen a few youtube videos, and read a few articles on the Hygge philosophy, you don't need to read this book.

“Hygge”- as its name has suggested - might be about how you live your life in a comfy and cozy way. As you can see in the book: It might be about how to decorate your house using light bulbs or candles so as to give your house a golden hue as it is proved that “dimmer lighting can cause people to be in a better mood” and you are able to “think in a more creative capacity”,... or it can be about the way that you unwind after getting home from work with “warm socks, chocolates, a good book and maybe even candles”. I love the way that the book is presented as it is more like a handbook, with some useful tips to mingle, to indulge yourself or to end your day of sorts. However, for those who want to have some in-depth insights into Hygge-ism, they might be disappointed because most of the book is (I think) common sense. Also, there are some parts that I do not agree such as the part about “bonfire hang” or those about food (which is understandable because we all have different preferences when it comes to food), or “rent a dog for the day” 🙂 Nevertheless, as for those who need nothing more than a source of inspiration, I think the book should be just right.
Generally an ok book, gives a good overview, but there are several times where a completely incorrect word is used. Not even a synonym or homonym of the correct word. Just really not well written at all.
And if anyone can explain the weird part of this sentence to me, I would be grateful. You'll know it when you see it:
"While an outfit that is entirely made of black clothing may seem goth or harrowing to come, an all-black outfit compliments the hygge fashion ideal quite nicely."
My best guess is that it should be "some" instead of "come", but it's still a terrible sentence. And this book is the first I've heard or seen of black being the go-to hygge clothing color.
This is the Danish concept of comfort and cozy-ness. Theirs is a cold climate and I can relate here in Michigan. Love the idea of an example of Hygge is sitting on your porch on a winter evening with hot chocolate in a hand made mug wearing earmuffs , a warm coat, and a scarf you knitted. I gave five stars because it was a quick read but gave a thorough overview of the concept.
Hygge...it's so me, and not just because of my Danish ancenstry. I love a cold house so that I can feel cozy in my leggings topped with legwarmers and knitted wrist warmers curled up under a plush blanket with a warm dog next to me while it snows outside. This book is a great Hygge 101 for anyone wanting simple tips to get into that groove, which will provide you comfort and reduce your stress. I hardly ever bother with highlights on my kindle, but made 15 in this short book.
Good! A general overview of Hygge, which involves gratitude, mindfulness, and self-care. There are tips to include more coziness for hearth and home. A good and quick read!
💕Book Quotes:
"One of the biggest reasons why the notion of hygge is important to the people of Denmark is because of their exceptionally long winters."
"When you learn to bring more gratitude into your life, you’re going to be able to not only become happier, but also become less materialistic."
i guess i was already living this way, so it wasn't very helpful to me, but it could be helpful to others! the only thing i found really bizarre was that one of the suggestions was to rent a dog????? i'm not sure i agree with that, maybe the suggestion would be to either foster or adopt a pet, not just "rent" one for the day like it's a thing.
A good read to give incite on a more Eastern way of life . I knew nothing really about the Danish way of life. Even though I don't like the cold, we have it in our state.. It feels like hiding for the winter.
Simple, easy to use and understand and a thoroughly enjoyable read. Im really looking forward to implementing hygge into my life based on the suggestions in thia book
Loved this little book. Made a reading nook in front of my bookcase with pillows, a rug, and a tray for tea after reading this book. It’s such a peaceful area. This book was full of good ideas to make my home a place where I feel warm, safe and cozy!
This book is pretty thin, tell u about adopting hygge (a danish cozy living) in almost every aspect of daily life. Really an 'introduction' about hygge: u have to dig more about hygge from another sources.
As some previous reviewers have stated, this reads more like highlights on hygge. Also,at times I felt like the author was talking down to me or being condescending. If you are interested in learning more about hygge, this is not it.
This was so poorly written. It felt like a weird blog post on a very random website. SO much telling instead of showing. "Below you will see", "In this book you will learn", "In this chapter we will discuss."
hmm.. it sure feels like it is describing aesthatically pleasing decor, fashion and self-care type of youtube content.. idk maybe the in-depth version of Hygge would make sense to me.
