Savannah
I’m an empath. I can feel the emotions of others and it’s overwhelming.
My life is a small one by necessity, with only one friend I can call my own. I’ve always wanted so much more, but there is no hope for my dreams of a normal life.
That all changes when Rhys moves in across the street. He gives me a glimpse of the happiness I could have and I want it all.

Rhys

I’ve spent centuries on the run from my twisted twin brother, unable to trust anyone.
Now that my brother is dead at my hand, I’m bound by a different set of chains. Isolation and self-loathing are impossible to escape.
Savannah makes me see myself in a different light. With her, I’ve found a home. And love.
All too soon, I discover I haven’t left evil behind as I hoped. It stalks my every move and will use any means necessary to break me. Even kill the woman I love.
But I will do anything to protect Savannah.
Even sacrifice myself.

*Though this is the second book in the Blood & Bone series, it can be read as a standalone. Rhys was a secondary character in the Bitten series, so if you enjoy this book and you have not read that series, you should check it out!

★ Synopsis ★

Rhys Carey spent centuries evading the clutches of his twisted brother, unable to trust anyone. He longs for a home and for the love that he could not have while his brother lived. Now that his twin is dead, he's bound with a different set of chains, those of isolation and self-loathing, and they are impossible to escape.

Savannah Baker is unbearably lonely. Her abilities as an empath have trapped her in a small life, with only a single friend to call her own. She dreams of so much more but holds no hope that she will attain her deepest desires.

When Rhys moves in across the street, the attraction between them blossoms into something more — a love neither of them believed they could have.

Yet unbeknownst to Rhys, darkness stalks him, waiting for the opportunity to strike. The evil that shadows his every move will use whatever means necessary to ensnare Rhys, even kill the woman he can no longer live without.

Now that these two lost souls have finally found each other, they are in a battle for survival. And for love.

*Though this is the second book in the Blood & Bone series, it can be read as a standalone.
Rhys was a secondary character in the Bitten series, so if you enjoy this book and you have not read that series, you should check it out!

Sooooo good!

This story is about Rhys and Savannah. We first met Rhys at the end of the Bitten series. He had helped kill his twin shui was trying to take over the world. In this book he is trying to fit in. He meets a witch who has a home to rent. Little does he know that this witch is trying to match him up with her employee who happens to be an empath.

There is a lot of exciting things that happen in this book a little fast-paced, but still an easy read. I can't wait for the next book as the first part of that book was initially written as the prologue for the Bitten series, but our wonderful author decided that a spin-off of that series would be better and re-wrote the story accordingly. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Oh... Such a good book. I absolutely loved this book. Both Rhys and Savannah were fabulous. They were both dealing with a lifetime of loneliness because of what they could do, both aching for someone that could understand them and their abilities. In each other, they found that perfect extraordinary ordinary.

I loved that Van called Rhys 'stupid hot' because he made her stupid because he was so hot. It made me laugh because it is something I would totally say. She was so relatable and likable. Satchel, her cat, was awesome in all her prissiness.

Ava, a secondary character, played a big role and we also get a little taste of what I'm assuming will be her book, the next in the series. I can't wait for that one as we already started to see the sparks flying between her and the man she connects with.

Rhys dealing with the man he was forced to become was so sad, but like I said Van is the perfect compliment for him and helps him learn how to overcome the feelings he has. She helps him see that he is not the monster he believes he is.

Seriously can't wait for the next story in this series!

I just love when C.C. Wood writes a paranormal romance. She mixes humor, heat, interesting plots with a romance that makes you swoon.

Let's talk Savannah before we get to the star of the show, Rhys. As an empath she has to live a lonely, isolated life. For a recluse she desperately desired to be a part of the real world and find her one love. But, her ability means she is constantly overwhelmed with the feelings of those around her. I found her to be sweet and sassy. I loved when she got flushed or embarrassed around her hot new neighbor. Speaking of Rhys, boy did I LOVE him.

I'm a big fan of a damaged man and Rhys is as damaged as they come. His past has made him feel incapable of being loved but nothing could be father from the truth. He was patient, hot, alpha and all around amazing. The whole cast of characters in this book were the driving force for my love of it and if the next book in the series is about who I hope it is then I definitely cannot wait!

I honestly think there is something about how C.C. Wood writes paranormal that is appealing to both para readers and those who tend to avoid it. She was one of the first paranormal authors I read and her style reads like contemporary but with the fun of paranormal. Nothing is too complicated you can't easily follow along and yet the plots are always surprising and exciting. There has not been one I haven't enjoyed and Souls Unchained is yet another hit for me.

I loved this story. I loved the characters.
At the end of Blood and Bone we got a peek into this story. Although I knew nothing about Rhys I knew immediately I wanted his story, and it didn't disappoint.
Rhys is a complicated guy. He keeps himself shut off from everyone believing himself unlovable. When looking for a new home he stumbles into The Magic Bean. The owner Ava knew right away he was someone special and offers him her available rental.
Savannah has kept to herself most of her life. She has her best friend/boss/landlord Ava and that's all she can handle as an empath. When Ava tells her she's rented out her other rental across the street from Savannah's she knows she should be neighborly and introduce herself. She was not prepared for the "stupid hot" guy living across from her.
I loved the writing. I felt as though I was right there with them, through all the mundane and action. I couldn't put it down after starting. I literally finished in just a few hours, my family be damned lol.
While I know the next story will be about a different couple I couldn't help but be upset. I want more of Rhys and Savannah.
C.C. Wood is one hell of a writer!

Again, CC Wood is one of my VERY few exceptions to paranormal that I will read. This story was unlike some of her others as there were a mixture of different types of characters. It wasn't strictly just shifters or vampires or witches, there were groups of those but also empaths and some other things.

I feel like out of all the characters, I could see myself identifying with Savannah as she feels what other people feel and wants to take their feelings onto herself and make them feel better.

Rhys is kinda that good guy who thinks he's a bad boy and wants to stay away from the good girl for fear of tainting her. Which makes him even better in Savannah's eyes. But Rhys and Savannah balance each other out and I love their relationship.

I just can't wait for Ava and Macgrath!!!

This book was fantastic! I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading but I quickly fell for Rhys and wanted to know more of his story.

Rhys Carey is the last known aminovore or soul eater. He feeds off of the souls/energy of others and has spent his long, lonely lifetime hating himself for it. With the fear of getting close to someone and hurting them, Rhys has forced himself into isolation in a small and quite town. He knows that witches and other supernaturals are close by so he keeps his abilities guarded. But he's not prepared for the sweet and kind empath that lives across the street.

Savannah Baker has a hard time being around others because of her gift as an empath. She only has one true friend, Ava, who she spends most of her time with. When Rhys moves in across the street, Savannah can immediately tell there is something different about him. But will either of them be willing to open up and let the other one in?

The relationship that builds between Savannah and Rhys is so lovely and genuine. Both of them have spent so much time alone watching them try to come together is an adorable comedy of errors. I didn't realize that Rhys has a role in another of C.C. Wood's series but I will definitely be checking it out.

4 stars! This was a good book! I was expecting a book similar to the first book in the series, Blood and Bone, which was a shifter romance. So I was expecting more shifters, but instead I got a ton of new interesting beings and characters, too. I love the way the world-building opened up in this book and the direction it went! This is Rhys and Savannah's book. Savannah is a shy, sweet empath who works in a coffee shop, owned and run by her best friend, a witch named Ava. Savannah can feel other people's emotions, both good and bad, which makes it hard for her to go out in public and be around many people. Rhys is a soul eater. He and his twin brother were created by a very evil master many centuries ago, endured unspeakable abuse, and were forced to commit some terrible acts. After getting free from the situation with his Master and brother, he has tried to lead a solitary life in peace and quiet. As a soul eater, he is capable of killing a person by eating their soul, like an emotional vampire. Rhys is a good man and wishes he had not been created. He doesn't want to hurt people, so he doesn't get close to many at all. Fate brings him to Savannah's town and into her coffee shop, where they meet. Rhys ends up renting the house across the street from Savannah. Both feel a connection to each other right away. They begin to spend time together as friends, which leads to a romance. They have some hurdles with Rhys's guilt from his past, but they soon realize they calm each other in a way no one can. There is some suspense and trouble for them when a powerful force sweeps into town and threatens their happiness. They weather the storm together, though, and come out stronger than ever.

I really liked Rhys and Savannah. They were perfect for each other. Rhys was able to ease the emotional upheaval being an empath caused Savannah. Savannah helped Rhys get over the pain of his past and move on. For two people who had been through and done so much, they were both somewhat innocent and very sweet together. Their relationship was a slow burn and old-fashioned in some ways because of Rhys's age. But with all of the chaos and magic brought in by the evil witch, it fit to have a sweet, simple romance for the couple.

I loved the paranormal aspects in this book. The witches, spells, and supernatural beings were very cool and different. I loved Ava and I am looking forward to her story too. The ongoing series story arc is getting very interesting and it looks like the next book will bring the shifters together with the witches.

Overall, this was a really good, witchy book! Rhys and Savannah's story was very sweet. I can't wait for more from the Blood and Bone series and Ms. Wood!

I would like to start off by saying I almost put this in my DNF pile. It started off a little slow. But then when I was about to give up, it picked up. I really loved Rhys. There was something endearing about him and I loved his character. Savannah was the main character but I felt like a secondary character, Ava, had more development. Savannah lacked something and I didn't understand why her cat Satchel was such a big character haha. There were so many missing pieces for me about Rhys and Savannah. Admittedly, I haven't read her back log so maybe I needed to to understand this world better but I wanted to know more about their histories and their connection. I also really wanted there to be a fated mate connection between Rhys and Savannah and that didn't seem to be addressed. I am looking forward to Ava and McGraths book (apparently they are mates?). This book was heavy on plot rather than romantic connection in my opinion and I wanted a little more. I was left with more questions than answers. But hey I kept reading and I want Ava's story so obviously it got my attention.

Rhys Carey has spent a lifetime being tortured by who he is and the life he has to lead. Now that his brother is gone, and the evil that surrounded him has been removed, Rhys is looking for a peaceful place to call home.

Savannah Baker is an empath whose gift forces her into isolation. She loves her quiet life and although she suffers for her gift, she wants to be able to help as many people as she can.

With a matchmaking landlord who thinks they’re good for each other, and a dark presence looming, Rhys and Savannah soon may find that they’re most important thing in each others lives.

This book was an good read and a slight departure from the Bitten Series and Blood & Bone book one. The animavore is a very interesting character concept, it is a departure from the usual shifter/vampire/witch in the other series and I enjoyed that Rhys is this ‘dark one’ who isn’t evil and unhinged. Savannah is a sweet and caring empath who makes herself physically ill from helping others and can not stomach being out in public much due to how she absorbs the feelings of those around her. As a result she lives a very quiet and solitary life.

The storyline and relationship between Rhys and Savannah moved extremely slowly, so much so that I did not have much interest in their developing relationship. I missed the usual non-stop action that we have had in previous books, and while this has some definite conflict, it felt more like a build up with not a lot of resolution. While this book wasn’t my favorite, the writing is still superb and I still love the Bitten series so much, I will hold out hope the next book in the Blood & Bone series will draw me right back in.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

Rhys Carey spent centuries unable to trust anyone and hiding from his evil twin brother, but now he is dead he wants a home and love from the right someone for him, but he is saddled with the self-loathing that he has always lived with. Savannah Baker is a lonely empath trapped in her own small world with just one friend. She dreams of happiness and someone to love. So when Rhys moves in across the street they have an attraction that neither believed was possible. However there is danger on the horizon and both Savannah and Rhys is in peril from the darkness that unknown to him has been stalking him for years.

I was so so happy that Rhys finally found the person who is the other half of his soul. I loved the twists and turns in the story and the introduction of new characters that I suspect will be the focus of the next story in this series. The character Ava is definitely someone I'd love to have as my big sister and also makes me think of author A K Michaels. The story was as per usual from this author was well told and I could feel and sense all the hopes and dreams of the characters. It was carefully and sensitively told and that made for a very enjoyable book.

I have followed C.C. Wood and her books for a long time as they span a myriad of genres but all have a similar feature. There is always a fantastic storyline, a hot alpha male and a sassy heroine that does not quit. That is exactly what we had here in Souls Unchained. Rhys and Van were so perfect together. I loved their friendship, their chemistry and sweet banter and the void they each filled for the other person. This was slightly different from the previous installment in terms of pace, but it was no less fantastic. I really enjoyed this story!

Rhys Carey has had a hard life. As a former Soul Eater, who has caused alot of death and destruction, he now lives a quiet and lonely life too afraid and guilt ridden to get close to anyone in fear of hurting them. Likewise Savannah "Van" Baker is an empath who spends most of her time with herself. As a result, these two form an unlikely friendship and a swoony relationship develops when they begin to spend time with each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I thought it felt so genuine and was very sweet! Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

I was lucky to get this book before it released and I LOVED it. Rhys and Savannah's story was AMAZING. I loved how this book followed from paranormal, to modern day, to romantic to suspenseful. I love the characters. Ava and Satchel was a great addition to this making this story that much better.

Rhys is a man from another time, he holds so much guilt and baggage from his past. When he meet Savannah, this young woman who also has issues that make her life a bit complicated. They uses each others weaknesses and each others strengths to help each other out. I loved watching their story unfold. I love seeing Rhys be so old fashion and clueless about somethings. I loved Savannah she just had this sweet, caring disposition about her that I liked from the start.

This book was well written, the story kept me wanting more, and the romance and chemistry between Rhys and Savannah was hands down amazing. I enjoyed every page of this book. I highly recommend this read.

I have to say, these two characters are really good together. They compliment each other in many ways. Rhys is a man.who is alone by his own doing...feeling he is evil and un-loveable due to the fact he is a soul eater. Savannah is a woman who is forced to be alone beacause other peoples feeling overwhelm her at a constant. Thanks to Ava's match making , these two find each other. But , as in any good story, not with out problems, one being a witch who is looking to make use of them to become a goddess.
This story has a little of everything, love , lust of a "stupid hot neighbor" ( loved that...LOL ) magic and drama.
Keep the stories coming!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Two battered souls, each looking for something they fear they cannot have. Love. An empath who's abilities limit her interaction with humans and others. A soul-eater who was created by a master who wanted power then enslaved by his twin.

Rhys wants to love but his fear of harming those around him, of stealing their essence in order to survive, causes him to be standoffish around others. As an empath, Savannah does her best to block the feelings of others but in large crowds, she can't control the flow of information and it causes her a great deal of pain.

With otherworldly forces coming into play, both Rhys and Savannah must learn to trust in order to learn to love.

I liked this book, but I got bogged down in the details at times and the flow seemed a bit forced at times. Will I read book 3? Yes. Its that good.

Awesome read. I have been gagging for Rhys book for a quite some time. The enigma that left us reeling and wanting to know more about him. He does not disappoint.

He was a lonely soul who was desperate to settle in one place, but he was admit he was evil to the core. Of course it took a lovely lady to persuade him otherwise. That lady is Savannah and i love her. Even her cat loves Rhys.

It was great to see Rhys have some happiness and love and how protective he is of his lady.

Love this series soo much!

I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Told from the dual POVs of Rhys and Savannah, I was especially amused by the self-deprecating voice of Savannah. Here is a great example of her internal dialogue that made me laugh:

I never even saw a shadow in his window. Not that I took the time to look over at his house while hiding behind my curtains and blinds. That would be creepy. It was more of a casual glance from time to time. While standing behind my curtains. With all the lights off in the room. Okay, so maybe it was creepy. I was acting slightly stalker-ish.

There characters were well developed and the plot was engaging, with a fair amount of suspense. Unfortunately, as I reached the end, I felt like I had more questions than answers. It wasn't really a cliffhanger, but I was left with a sense that I need to read the next book in the series. I'm looking forward to that.

Rhys. Rhys. Rhys. *happy sigh*
He was an amazing character—sweet, caring and definitely haunted by his past. I had eyes (and a mind) only for him. Yes, there were two (or three or four) other characters but he stole the show so I don't feel like talking about them at all... *evil laugh*
The story was captivating, intriguing and, as always, full of quirky humor I've come to love in C.C. Wood's books. As to main plot, there wasn't much happening but it sure felt like the calm before the storm... I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Once I started, I couldn't stop. I put the rest of the world on hold for Rhys and I'd do it again. This was another great story in the Blood & Bone series!

Rhys had a part of my heart when he was introduced at the end of The Bitten series, but damn! He has my whole heart now. He's just so dreamy. For a man that's life's thousands of years, he could be so innocent. Those years in isolation kept him from so many experiences and I'm so glad Savannah had the heart and patience to get through to him and help him see how amazing he truly is. And I can't forget anout Savannah. That girl was perfect for Rhys. She was no stranger to isolated living but she had a tenderness and understanding that helped bring Rhys out of his shell.

In Souls Unchained I can see some amazing story lines in the future. While Rhys finally gets the opportunity to truly acclimate to human living, danger comes after the woman he loves and he's willing to do anything and everything to protect.

FAVORITE QUOTES:
My new neighbor was stupid hot. As in, so hot it made me stupid.

"With the right person, ordinary becomes extraordinary. Vital and necessary."

After over to millennia alone, I'd finally found a woman that I could envision a future with and I would not allow anyone or anything to hurt her. I would protect Savannah with everything I had. Including my life.

"What are you doing to me, Savannah?" I asked her, our faces close.
"I'm trying to make you mine," she whispered.
"I think it's too late for that," I told her.
"Because I'm already yours."

"I told you that my heart beast for you, Savannah. Until I met you and loved you, I didn't think I had a heart or a soul. Now they're both yours. I love you and I never want you to believe that to be otherwise."

This is the second book in the Blood and Bone series by author C.C. Wood, which is a spin-off of her Bitten series. In the Bitten series, we meet the character Rhys. This is his book. I loved this series and seeing Rhys finally find his girl. I absolutely loved Savannah as well. This was such a swoon-filled book, when they weren't in danger from darker forces, of course. My favorite part, however, was the banter between one of the "good" guys and one of the "bad" guys. Absolutely my favorite. The book ends in an HEA, with a set up for the next book, of which I can't wait to get my hands on. This isn't a standalone however unless you want to dive in and not know several of the side characters. I suggest you read the author's Bitten series (SO GOOD) and then book one in this series to fully enjoy this book.

I have been fortunate enough to have read CC's Bitten series, including the micronovella Destined By Blood, and Blood & Bone. So having the opportunity to read Souls Unchained was a wonderful opportunity.

Those who have read all the books might recognize some of the characters our dear Rhys meets in this book. Savannah is a wonderful sweet character and her absorption of emotions due being an empath made my heart ache for her. Rhys is a psychic "vampire" who we learn more about the actual name for his kind, how he was created, and lots more of his past.

The book was intense, romantic at times, and in totality an awesome read that I didn't want to put down - to the point of ordering my family takeout so I could keep reading. The next book isn't due out for a few months and I'm already dying for it.

I loved this book I couldn't put it down. Even though this is the second in the blood & bone series it is a stand alone so you don't need to have read blood and bone first ( though I would recommend you do as it's an awesome story too ). This book follows Rhys and Savannah through the twists and turns of they're new romance. With the problems they face together along the way.
Any story that can put witches, an empath, an animavor and a vampire together and not be over the top is a good book in my view. And I would definitely recommend it.

wow, just like her other books you get pulled right into this book just like the other ones. This book is the 2nd book into her Blood & Bone. As a reader, I would highly recommend reading book 1 just so you don't confuse as you read it. As many of other books, it's hard to pick a character that truly sticks out at me but I think I like Rhys, He seems to be the type of guy that wants to protect and to let her trust him. But when we all talk about Trust it's a hard topic because trusting someone takes a lot of power and strength to do so. WHen someone breaks the trust of another it takes a lot to try and trust again.

This book is the perfect balance, including the moody cat Satchel, whom I loved! Savanah is a beautiful, quirky young woman. I loved her personality and her house was awesome! Rhys is dark, broody, and absolutely gorgeous! These two are perfect for each other in every way. C.c. knows how to pull you into her magical world and keep you on the edge of your seat needing, wanting, and begging for more. Her paranormal world is one of my favorite to get lost into and I look forward to each and every word she writes. This book is one of her best to date.

I love Rhys from page one. A tortured soul, he finally escaped his brother and just wanted to live a quiet life. Fate or destiny being what it was had other ideas.

After stumbling into a new town and a great house, he meets Savannah and is smitten. Hating his nature, he tries to distance himself from her, but again destiny decides that they are meant to be.

Savannah has her own magical chains. Being an empath, she takes in the emotions of others and it puts strain on her body. Lucky for her, she has Rhys to support her through whatever ails her.

I really liked the sensitivity of Rhys this entire book. Since he had no experience with certain modern things, there was an innocence between him and Savannah that made my heart melt. She taught him so many things and that interaction is what made their love for each other real to me.

Without giving much of the story away, some bad things happen and the perpetrators might surprise you.

I'm looking forward to the next book because those two, introduced in this book, will be interesting

Everything you would expect from CC Wood. Love, heat, humor, suspense....a perfect mix to keep you on the edge.

Rhys, troubled by his lengthy past, finds himself wishing for things he deems himself unworthy; friends, love, happiness.... When fate shows him he's missing, he fights for it.

Savannah lives a shut in life. Her abilities are debilitating. Her boss and only friend Ava, can only do so much. She's lonely. Is her new, stupid hot neighbor the answer? The answer to her loneliness, her debilitating ability?

What can I say ? C.C. Wood has done it again. I immediately fell in love with Ava And Savannah (I have loved Rhys already). I anxiously anticipated this release and was not disappointed. CC is an amazing storyteller that keeps me begging for her next release. Her writing style is stellar. Great job on this one. Now It's time for a whole reeead of the entire series!

C. C. adds another gem to the Blood and Bone series. As much as you think you have found your favorite characters in her previous books C.C. Wood surprises us with new main characters that also earn a place in our hearts. This installment does not disappoint!
As usual the fantasy world she spins sucks you in and doesn't let go until the last page. Set aside some time and get reading for another awesome story.
