Say you have a brilliant app idea. If you don’t have the technical skills to bring it to life, conventional Silicon Valley wisdom demands you get a technical co-founder, pay too much money to an overpriced app agency, or learn to code. These expensive obstacles could easily stop your dream from becoming reality. But now there’s an alternative. Inspired by his experience in agencies as well as his own consulting business, Drew Gorham brings you The App Factory Playbook. In it, he takes you step-by-step through defining, designing, and developing your app. Gorham shows how to create your product spec and find designers and developers on a budget. He even shares what questions to ask and what mistakes to avoid along the way. The App Factory Playbook has the tips to help you save time and money—as well as your sanity—in the process. It’s time to prepare for launch.
introduction for non-tech founders into turning idea into prototype, doing customer development (based on Steve Blank methodology) and then hiring a developer on TopTal. Book is good but don't like the straight pitch by the author to contact him (appFactory) and pitching TopTal as the only way to find good developer.
Just picked up this book yesterday and couldn't put it down. Extremely helpful and quick guide for founders that want to make their idea a reality, but don't have the technical background to do so.
I just finished reading Drew's first book ... while dedicated to building Apps it does include some broaden leadership and managerial gems, I would paraphrase as "play to your strengths," "don't get bogged down by irrelevant detail," and "get quality help!" My e-copy is covered with e-higlighter, but you can still get a copy at a hugely discounted rate at Amazon.
