An excellent Autobiography of an ICS officer who started working during the British India days till the early 1960s.
A topper at Oxford in the early 1920s KPS Menon has had a prolific career in which he had experienced the best of life journey within India as well as to many neighbouring countries as foreign secretary.
On reading this book one can get an very close details of life in india during the latter stage of British India while also getting in depth idea of what was happening in China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Nepal, Sri Lanka apart from the Indian places like Kerala, Madras presidency, the north west frontier. All the places, their cultural, dressing, food habits, the people, their politics are described beautifully. The writing is filled with perfect English and humour interpersed which makes reading all the more easy, entertaining and at the same time enriching the reader about the authors life journey.
K P S Menon surely enjoyed a wonderful envious life which he has described in the best possible way. It is a must read for all history buffs as well as for people who crave for adventures and enjoy reading autobiographies. Unfortunately we know very little about such great men like K P S Menon who was awarded the Padma Vibhushan for his services to the nation.
