USA Today Bestselling Author Lisa B. Kamps makes sparks fly with a series about hot and heroic firefighters who put more than their lives on the line...It's time to turn up the heat... Adam Price works hard, plays hard…and loves hard. The sexy firefighter has seen enough in life that he wants nothing more than escape when he's away from the job. And what better way to escape than frequenting his favorite online hook-up group, where no emotion is required? Beth Fuller has sworn off men thanks to her critical and controlling ex-boyfriend. One big problem—she misses the sex, even if she is convinced she’s no good at getting down and dirty. Seeking a solution to her sexual hang-ups, Beth turns to on-line dating and meets Adam, the one man who can unlock her passionate side. But when no-strings starts to turn into something more, will they let their fears blaze a divide between them or will they let their hearts lead the way?
Lisa B. Kamps is a USA Today Bestselling Author who writes steamy romance with real-life characters and relatable stories that evoke deep emotion. She likes her men hard, her bed soft, her coffee strong, her whiskey neat, and her wine chilled...and when it comes to sports, hockey is the only thing that matters!
Lisa currently lives in Maryland with her husband and two sons (who are mostly sorta-kinda out of the house), one very spoiled Border Collie, two cats with major attitude, several head of cattle, and entirely too many chickens to count. When she's not busy writing or chasing animals, she's cheering loudly for her favorite hockey team, the Washington Capitals--or going through withdrawal and waiting for October to roll back around!
I'm a bit of an old fashioned person, so the idea of how and why Adam and Beth met, didn't set well with me. For obvious reasons, they both had several things in common. As I continued reading, there were times the song "Can't Fight This Feeling" by REO Speedwagon played through my head. I enjoyed how Author Kamps incorporated Courtney, from "Playing The Game" into the story as Beth's co-worker and friend. The storyline and writing is good. As the story progressed and there was less talk of sex or the lack of it, I started enjoying the storyline more and the events that took place. Adam had a great bunch of co-workers/friends. Adam and Beth were both fortunate to have those friends that can see thru you and forced them to see what they were both fighting. From personal experience, I would have been just as bull headed as Adam & Beth. *I volunteered to read and write a honest review upon receiving an advanced reader copy of Second Alarm*
Second Alarm by Lisa B. Kamps is the fifth installment in her Firehouse Fourteen series and can be read as a standalone. This is a story of two people who start off as a hookup and because of previous relationships don't want a relationship until something changes. Adam Price has sworn off relationships due to a messy breakup and emotionally questions his self due to experiences in the past which seem to haunt him. Three hook up's rule is what Adam stands by until Beth Fuller walks into the room and forces him to look at his choices. Beth's last relationship is not something she ever wants to experience again. When introduced to online hookup sites, Beth sees the perfect opportunity to scratch an itch without commitment but emotions are a hard thing to keep out of the connection.
There is something special when you read Lisa's novels that you don't always get with other authors. Connection, Heat & Emotion in each and every one and Second Alarm did not disappoint. Each of our leads has baggage in their past that they keep from each other and needed to open up to let each other in. I felt Adam was to hard on himself and honestly swooned for him from the start. I've been a fan of this series for awhile now and I love seeing characters from past novels and seeing how their "lives" have changed and evolving. Fingers crossed we'll see more of these amazing characters in the future! 5 Stars for Second Alarm by Lisa B. Kamps
*** Reviewed for Sweet & Spicy Reads - ARC provided for an honest review ***
I am just loving this series this is book number five and while it can be read on its own I personally think they are so much better if read in order. This book is Adam and Beth's story neither one of these two is looking for more than a fun night but what they are not expecting is to catch feelings and want more. I really liked these two they were good likable real characters this was a super addition to the series I would recommend it
Second Alarm by Lisa B Kamps is book 5 in her Firehouse Fourteen series and can be read as a standalone. However, if you’re like me and this is the first book of the series you've read, you will want to read the previous books in the series after reading this one.
Adam loves his job as a firefighter but sometimes needs an escape from the stresses of work and uses casual online hookups to forget about everything for a while. It works for him as no emotion is required and he can walk away without making any commitments. Then Beth enters his life and she makes him want to go against the rules he put in place for himself. However, he knows she won’t want anything more to do with him once she learns about the things he’s done and what sort of man he really is.
“What did she see when she looked at him like that? She should be able to see him for what he really was. She should be able to see the blackness of his empty soul reflected in his eyes. Why didn't she see it?” - Adam
After her last relationship, Beth decides that she doesn’t need a man in her life other than for one thing. She wants casual and no commitments, so an online hookup seems the ideal option for her. She doesn’t expect to meet a guy like Adam who opens up parts of her she didn’t know existed and leaves her wanting more. Adam made it clear from the start that he doesn’t want a relationship, so she ends their arrangement when she realises how strong her feelings are becoming for him and doesn’t expect to see him ever again.
“The danger lie elsewhere. She knew, with as much certainty as she'd ever known anything before, that she wouldn't be able to hide from Adam. That if she went upstairs with him, he wouldn't be satisfied until he'd stripped her down to her bare soul.” - Beth
This has to be the hottest book by Lisa B Kamps so far! Adam Price is naughty and brings out a side of Beth that she never knew existed. It's definitely for readers 18+ and you'll be left feeling hot under the collar as you see how bright the fire burns when Adam and Beth are together. As with every Lisa B Kamps book, I wasn't able to put Second Alarm down and read it all in one go. Adam and Beth can’t keep away from each other and their encounters take them on a journey of self-discovery, which always leads them right back to each other. They try to fight the attraction they can see growing between them but the heart knows what it wants.
I love how Lisa B Kamps incorporates characters from her other series’ and I was so happy to see Courtney (and Harland) from Playing the Game, book 1 of the The York Bombers series, in this book. Playing the Game is my favourite book from that series so far and one I recommend you get today! Second Alarm also includes characters from the first books of the Firehouse Fourteen series and I now can't wait to read their stories. I've got Once Burned, book 1, on my Kindle and will be starting it as soon as possible.
Without a doubt, I recommend that you purchase Second Alarm and I know you won't be left disappointed. Be prepared to experience a range of different emotions, including having your heart drop when Adam is the hero at work and Beth is there when he needs her the most.
*I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of Second Alarm and this review is done voluntarily. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
The fifth book in the Firehouse Fourteen series. It's a standalone thought it contains characters that we've met in previous books and her hockey series the Baltimore Banners. They only add to this story and you won't be missing anything in this story if you haven't read all the rest. Pay attention to the 18+ rating on this one, it's steamy.
Adam is a firefighter and he's got some broken thinking and self worth problems but is managing the best he knows how. Casual hook-ups are his only form of female companionship and he's become well versed in the practice. He arranges to meet Beth another broken soul for a bit of pleasure and they find that they really like each other. Situations and self imposed rules keep the pair from forming any bond with each other or anyone else. It's a good thing that Adams friends in the firehouse look out for their own because Adam needs a huge nudge on the right direction. God love Mikey and her meddling ways.
I love the storytelling in the Firehouse Fourteen series it's like being right there in the fire or in the house with the crew. The writing is so dead on and true to life it's remarkable. These particular characters weren't my favorite of the people in the firehouse so far but I can see why they make the choices they do. I got my HEA and that always makes me happy. I'm always looking forward to the next in the series.
Adam and Beth are trying to recover from bad relationships and not wanting to get into a relationship. They met in a chatroom for hookups but from the beginning they can't get enough of each other. In their own minds they think this next time is the last no more than 3 meets and that's it, they don't want it to become more. But there is more and they can't walk away from each other. They try, but something brings them together each time. Although I've read several of Lisa Kamps hockey books, this is my first in the Firehouse series, easily read as a standalone even though it is book 5. She does tie characters together from both series which is a pretty neat part of reading this story too! I voluntarily rec'd and read an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.
If you want to get your engine going, all you have to do is read Lisa Kamps book, Second Alarm! This is book five in the Firehouse Fourteen series, but can be read as a stand alone. I have not read the first four in the series and was not lost, starting with number five. I like how it intertwined with her hockey series, as well. Beth and Adam knew they were missing something, but just didn't know it until they met. I recommend this book!
Second Alarm is the fifth book in the Firehouse Fourteen series. While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone and the story itself does not end in a cliffhanger. Hot and steamy sex so definitely a book for 18+.
The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. You can tell that the author is a former firefighter by how well she knows the workings at the firehouse as well as what they are experiencing on the job. Unlike the previous books in this series, I had a hard time getting engaged in the main characters Adam and Beth. I found them to be shallow and not very likeable, unlike the characters that the author usually writes. I'm hoping the next book is more like the previous four books were.
I highly recommend that you read the entire Firehouse Fourteen series as overall they are really good! I received a copy of this book from the author and chose to leave a review for other readers.
I received a free copy for an honest review and here is mine. I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I love Lisa B. Kamps Baltimore Banners series and I have to say that this was an amazing book and I will have to read the rest of the books. This book is not your typical romance. Adam Price that he has something wrong with him because he only does hook-ups for sex and only sees that person 3 times until he meets Beth Fuller.
This book is a great book to read and I would love to give you a spoiler but you need to read for yourself if Adam and Beth end up together or go their separate ways.
Lisa B. Kamps this series rocks and I cannot wait until the next book.
Holy Hotness!! This book was on fire!! I loved every single part of this read. Adam was super hot and Beth, I just loved her vulnerability. I love how Adam brought out her sensuous side and instilling the confidence in her! If you haven't read this author's books you should! They are fabulous! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Second Alarm is by far the steamiest book that Lisa has written. I really did think my kindle was going to catch on fire and melt it was that hot. Now I know I basically live my life hiding under a rock, and I am sure that the way they met really does happen in real life, but WOW!!! that was so out there!! Loved that Beth & Adam were different but they had so many similarities. They have both been in relationships that were toxic, so they are both reluctant to take that step again. How they first meet is what they both think will work for them. I like how Lisa melds her three current series together. When she does this it is like catching up with old friends. Absolutely loved this book. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book
I am used to reading Lisa's hockey series and this is the first book that I have read in her firefighter series. Reader should be aware that this story is a lot more steamier and graphic than her usual hockey stories. It is fast paced with a lot of firehouse action. We are introduced to Beth and Adam. Both have been burned in past relationships - so now they just want no strings attached sex. After nine months of being celibate Beth decides to take matters into her own hands and joins an online hook up site. Enter Adam , her first casual hook up. What follows is really intense. Their encounters are literally burning up the pages. I did appreciate being introduced to characters and places that I have read about in her hockey series. Overall, I am never disappointed in Lisa's writing style and I will definately read more of the firehouse series.
This is Book 5 in the Firehouse Fourteen series by Lisa B. Kamps. This was an easy, hot and steamy book that can be read as a standalone. After both being burned in past relationships Adam and Beth turn to an online dating site. Neither wants commitment but the chemistry between the two cannot be denied. Who will give in first to the possibility of a future together?
Whoa! I am surprised my Kindle did not catch fire from the hotness of the sexy scenes between Adam and Beth! They have some serious chemistry and definitely know how to burn up the sheets! They meet online because neither wants anything more than a hook-up. It is intense and worth repeating so they do, more than once. This is just supposed to be about sex though. That's the rule they both self imposed. But there is more between them. There is a definite connection that they both clearly feel. But they can't make this into more, can they? One can't always stop what the heart wants and sometimes stubborn people need a push from a friend. In this case Mikey helps out and gets Beth to go see Adam when he is in need. Will these two jaded lovers find a way to get past their pasts and let love in? Another steamy read from Lisa Kamps and Firehouse Fourteen!
I received a copy of Second Alarm for an honest review. As with most of Lisa's books, I couldn't put down this easy read. A romance story between two stubborn people, the writing kept me wondering who was going to give in first and kept the book in my hands. I was sorry when I got to the end because I wanted more, but know I will hear more about them in future Firehouse Fourteen books. I also appreciated the connection I found to Lisa's book, Playing To Win, book #2 in her York Bombers series. I don't like to talk about the story line as not to give anything away. I highly recommend Second Alarm as I do all of Lisa B. Kamps books.
Adam is a firefighter not looking for any relationship so he uses a hook up app to have casual sex.. Beth had been in a crappy relationship and was looking for a hookup.. The smoldering hotness from this two is definitely a Second Alarm fire.. They each have rules, no relationship, no commitment but can they tear down those walls and find more?
Can you have just a physical connections? These two decide to try with interesting results
Second Alarm is the fifth book in the Firehouse Fourteen series and the first book I have read of the series. Because of that I was not sure if there might be things that I would miss from the previous books in the series while reading the story of Adam Price and Beth Fuller. Well I found that this story was lovely and I had no issues with reading it as a stand-alone. Adam is a firefighter who lives by the motto "work hard, play hard" and that includes in his personal relationships. He likes the hit it, have fun and get out quickly routine that comes with using an on-line dating site. Beth is single after having a super controlling and somewhat abusive ex-boyfriend. She is happy to be single but does miss the ability to have a physical connection with another person. Sometimes you just want skin on skin. So she turns to an on-line dating site and ends up crossing paths with Adam. As neither Adam nor Beth were looking for a long term relationship they were happy to agree to have some fun between the sheets together as they had a strong physical attraction for each other............actually it was smoking hot between them. But what happens when their past baggage and then emotions get all mixed up into what becomes an interesting situation between Adam and Beth.
Lisa B. Kamps has produced a well written, interesting and fascinating story about two people who hare at war with themselves and their pasts along with what they desire for their future. They will have to lay bare some things to each other in order to get what they truly want. Will it be together or will they remain alone and not trusting anyone or themselves again.
Adam Price is a firefighter who wants to play hard when he is away from his job, nothing serious, no strings, just a fun hookup. Beth Fuller had a controlling ex-boyfriend who loved to criticize her. So the only part she misses of that toxic relationship is having her physical needs taken care of and maybe learning how to engage better by opening up her passionate side without the pressure of a relationship – again, no strings.
When Beth finds Adam through an on-line dating site, she thinks she may have found the one to meet her needs. Yet those emotions are still swirling underneath and Beth is not sure she can handle it. She runs rather than risk her heart. Will Adam let her go? Or has he found that he doesn’t want to lose her after all?
This was a nice story, often heard but told well here. I personally never believed that “no strings” were ever possible – at least they weren’t for me. I enjoyed seeing two people give it a try. Now they just need to accept that life and love are risks you have to take if you want to find the one who makes you happy. No guarantees – it’s hard work. But it’s worth it all when you find the right one.
I have always been a fan of this authors military suspense series and when I saw she had a firefighter series as well I had to give it a try and I wasn't disappointed at all This is the latest offering in this series and while each book is about a separate couple do yourself a favour and read them all in fact read her military series as well You won't be disappointed
Beth has finally fought he way out of a abusive relationship and she is quite OK by herself but she misses the physical side of a relationship so she decides to connect on a site that is just for that. She finds a match in Adam he is a firefighter at Firehouse 14 and all he wants is no strings. That is until they meet and a connection starts to form. When Beth realises that she is starting to get attached and tries to back away Adam realises he wants her on a more permanent basis abut can he convince her to give him a chance.
This is book five in the Firehouse Fourteen series. Adam is a firefighter and a damn good one that gives his job everything. But when you work hard, you need to play hard. Adam goes to a online site where the expectation is a good time with no strings. Beth has no interest in a relationship now that she is rid of her ex boyfriend. But some crazy, hot sex would be good. Beth seeks out the same online site as Adam. They are paired together and the attraction and chemistry are five alarm. But what about the no strings thing? Can these two check their baggage at the door and let their hearts and guts guide them or will they turn tail and run the other way? A great story full of heat, emotions and realistic challenges. Adam and Beth are great characters that make you feel like you are part of their journey and they will steal a piece of your heart. Enjoy!

I enjoyed this book so much! It is the fifth book in the series, but you can read it as a standalone. Adam is a hot firefighter who loves doing his job, but needs something to take his mind off his job when he isn't working and a good way to destress. He doesn't want a relationship and enjoys the 'no attachments' release he gets from an online group. But he wasn't prepared for Beth. Beth was recovering from a bad relationship, but missed the intimacy, so she joins an online group to try and find it. When Adam and Beth meet, they both seem like they feel a connection, although neither one admits it. This story will take you on a sexy ride while we figure out if Adam and Beth can get past their insecurities and baggage to let the other in. Love this series and seeing glimpses of the other firefighters we have met!
I just loved how both Adam and Beth weren't looking for relationships, they just wanted a physical connection that they could walk away from ... yeah good luck with that. There is plenty of steamy scenes, conflicting emotions, denial and injury that has you hooked on Beth and Adams story. I liked how there is a tug of war in regards to their emotions and times where you wanted to smack their heads together while they try and draw a line in what they should and shouldn't do as well as what they don't want to see happening to their "physical" relationship and that i what makes this a great read that has plenty of heat to it!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. The book is about Beth being down on her self because she was told by other people. Beth had not be with anyone for over six years. Beth had signed up to a dating site to meet men for just hooking up. Adam had signed up for the site to have ex with women without the feelings or with out the relationship of it. He meets the women in a bar or a place then move to the hotel room where he had set it up for them. Adam was a firefighter and Beth was a hairstylist. Now would be the time to get the book. I will be getting more from this author.
Great story of a flaming hot fireman that's a bit damaged and a cute curvy hairdresser whose hateful boyfriend has left her with cruel words. Adam only does hookups after walking in on his cheating girlfriend entertaining another man, no relationships for him, hit it three times and quit. Beth likes sex but doesn't what a relationship either so she is giving the hookup app a try. Flames spark between these two and a hookup is not enough. I enjoyed how they both fought the "something more". This is the first I have read in this series but I look forward to reading the stories of the other couples.
Both Adam and Beth come with baggage. They have been burned before and figure what could online "dating" hurt?
What I liked is that these two could be anyone. Our past is what we use as a shield but these two can't deny that connection and it's so hot and intense that their brought baggage gets burned.
Lisa does such a great job of building their story. I got their pain and hesitation but at the same time wanted them to see love and life as more than a hookup or a dump rule. You have to live and let go so when they do, it brings their lives and us as readers that feeling that comes with a great romance.
Good story about how our past relationships affect our future ones. Beth is not looking for another commitment because she needs to work on her self esteem issues, but she misses the sex and being close to someone. Adam thinks he is too damaged by his ex and what he feels is his darkside because his sexual interests are so varied. They meet in a chatroom and both keep putting restrictions on their time together so they don't get hurt. I liked the push and pull of their characters and thought Beth was the stronger of the two.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Adam was born to be a firefighter and it is the driving force in his life, but it does have an emotional toll as well. He doesn’t believe he has anything more to give to a woman or a relationship, so he keeps his interactions casual and brief until one night with Beth doesn’t seem to be enough.
Beth’s last relationship has left emotional scars and although she misses having a man in her life, she isn’t prepared to repeat the experience. What was supposed to be one night with Adam is starting to feel like more .
There is no denying the heat between Adam and Beth, but they must decide if the reward of what they could have together is worth the risk.
Fast paced steamy read. Beth and Adam started out as just hook up buddies after meeting online. Adam is not into commitments after being cheated on by his last girlfriend. Beth was in a verbally abusive relationship and she wanted to prove to herself that she's still wanted and capable in bed. There isn't much character development, the story mostly skimmed the surface. Their first encounter was super sexy and it cause both of them to feel more than they had planned on. Their feelings developed quickly and both were in denial. Sexy quickie read.
This was an awesome book that I really enjoyed. The story and characters grabbed me from the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. I loved the characters and watching them grow together, they were well written and went well together. I found this book amazing with great word building making me feel apart of the story and watching it unfold in front of me. A definite must read for any fan and I can't wait to read more from this author!!!

Adam is a hard working and hard playing firefighter. He is looking to hook up but nothing more. Beth is done with commitment after an emotionally damaging ex. When Adam and Beth connect on an on line site things seem to be going well. But the more time spent together the more there is a chance for no strings to grow roots. When Beth panics and boots will Adam chase. Enjoyed the read and characters . Entertaining series.
