Stepping into her new home, Jasper had no idea her life would change forever. Being a typical 12-year-old girl with a typical 12-year-old imagination, she is never short of new adventures. Although the adventure she would soon embark on would change her more than she knew.
Join Jasper and her team of majestic elves as they seek to save Whisper-Feet from the treacherous villain Veranon. High flying excitement, dark and dangerous caves, magical weapons, and beautiful realms all await her the moment she touches the Great Willow tree.
If that previous sentence excited you, then you should definitely pick up a copy of Jonathan Bowerman's debut novel!
The Secret Realms of the Hidden Elves is a great adventure story, and the perfect fantasy for primary school-aged kids. Think Alice in Wonderland meets the Hobbit, except the primary creatures are elves, and gigantic versions of the smaller things in our world. Oh, and dragons. Gotta have dragons!
The story has all the elements you'd expect in such an adventure: the chosen hero, great wizard, stout warrior, dastardly villain, important quest, and of course, butterfly steeds. Wait, that's not what you'd expect? Well, it works in this story!
Jasper, the twelve-year-old protagonist, has just moved into a mansion with her family. It's massive, and her imagination runs wild—even for one of her age. She sees things others don't. This eventually leads to her meeting the hidden elves.
The elves are having a bit of an issue with an evil elf named Veranon. Fortunately, Jasper is the chosen one, and the only chance they have to defeat him! Cue the entrance of a colourful cast of characters, and an overwhelming quest they all must work together to overcome.
We read about the importance of being strong and independent while also not being afraid of relying on your friends. And dragons. You can always rely on dragons! Despite how hard things get—physically and mentally—Jasper never gives up!
This is a fun book, and I quite enjoyed overcoming the trials and tribulations alongside Jasper. I look forward to seeing what Jonathan has in store for the sequel.
I love the creative World Bowerman has created! The characters are totally believable and you’ll be cheering for them by page two. The action never ends. I can’t wait to read more about the Hidden Elves.
A good story with love-able characters that is inviting, friendly and imaginative. It starts with a step back in time and then brings us back to the present day. The descriptions are beautiful, "...a cascading waterfall that gave off a gently rumble that sounded like a cat's purr." and this fun one, "The dragon approached her and frizzled her hair with his hot puffs of air..."
The story follows Jasper as she travels with elves, befriends dragons and fights the evil Veranon. Occasionally, I would have liked a little more depth to the story, but I did enjoy it and I know there is another one to look forward to reading. I recommend this to anyone who likes to read magical stories.

Super cool read! My girls loved reading it at bedtime. I love when an author can describe something or someone in a way that makes you see it clearly in your mind like watching it in a movie.. and that is how the description is in this book.. I want a house like Jasper's lol!
It was one of the best books I have ever read in my life! The start of the book is a bit rough, but as it goes on, I'm at the edge of my seat. So far, I've read it 2 times!
