For archery expert Hannah Riley and her daughter, nowhere on her Smoky Mountain ranch is safe with someone aiming to kill her. She's not sure why they want her dead, but with the help of her best friend, Sheriff Ben Whitman, she won't give up until she knows--and stops them. Hannah's comeback in competitive mounted archery is looming, though, and time is running out to uncover the truth. Years ago Ben promised Hannah's late husband he'd watch over her. But guarding her proves more dangerous than the stalker when Ben is forced to confront his growing feelings for Hannah. He can't lose another woman he loves...but if Ben wants to save her and her little girl, every move he makes must be on target.
Point Blank: Smoky Mountain series is by Sandra Robbins. This is a Love Inspired Suspense so there is no graphic sex or language. This makes it read easy and the reader isn’t bombarded with graphic details. It is a gentle love story with attempted murder. Hannah Riley runs her Smoky Mountain ranch and mounted archery seminars and raises her daughter Faith alone. Her husband Shane had been murdered while away from home; but the murderer was behind bars. She had no known enemies and was well-liked by everyone. She had just received an invitation to a World Mounted Archery Competition in Korea and was thinking of going. Now, she was getting fuel before heading home. Suddenly, she felt a gun against her head and a voice telling her to get in the car. Hoping she could find a chance to escape, she did as she was told. He then took sped off with her in the car. He told her it was “payback”. She just prayed she would somehow get out of this alive and that God would protect and care for Faith if she didn’t. Sheriff Ben Whitman had known Hannah for many years and was her best friend. He had stepped aside when Shane Riley came into the picture and married Hannah. However, he cared for her and her daughter very much. Years ago, Ben had promised Shane he would watch over Hannah and Faith when he was gone. Ben had carried out that promise. Now, when he heard Hannah had been kidnapped, he immediately heads out to do what he could to save Hannah, as a friend as much as because he was the sheriff. Who is wanting Hannah dead and is not wasting any time trying? Why does he want her dead? Will Ben be able to find the murderer before he managed to get Hannah?
This is the fourth book in the Smoky Mountain Secrets. I really enjoy Sandra's work and I know you are going to love this book. This story is well written, action packed, and full of faith.
Mounted Archery expert Hannah Riley is a widow with a young daughter. Someone is trying to kill her and she has no idea why. She is trying to make a comeback into the competitive field; is that why she is being stalked. The Sheriff, her best friend is doing everything he can to keep her safe but their relationship seems to be changing.
Sheriff Ben Whitman was Hannah's husband best friend. When he was killed he promised to care for the beautiful widow and her daughter. He has dedicated his whole life to the women he has secretly loved. Now these men were trying to take away the family of his heart. He must protect them and find the killer without revealing his secret.
A journey of love, loyalty, and trust. These two must find the way to the future that God has called them to. God has a plan for you too; a plan for good and not for evil. Trust Him with your future and watch Him work in your situation.
I chose this for a light-hearted Valentine's Day read, and that's pretty much what I got. This rated somewhere between a 3 and a 4 to me, probably closer to a 4. I did enjoy the plot. It was fast-paced, drawing me in from the start.
And I also appreciated that Ben and Hannah had known each other as friends for years. So many of these romances end up with the couple getting married while they hardly know each other. Ben and Hannah had a long, rich history together, and Hannah's love for her daughter was tangible.
I noticed that the scoring procedure for mounted archery was different than for my kids' archery tournaments.
The paramedics broke protocol. They don't take along extra passengers if they can help it, and not back with the patient when they do - so that the passenger wouldn't be in the way for any needed procedures for the patients. And I suspect that law enforcement broke their protocols, too.
As this was a suspense novel, and not a mystery, there were no clues ahead of time as to whodunit. The story lagged for several chapters once Chuck Murray was behind bars, and the wrap-up came too swiftly, with the final developments more told than shown.
I have not read other books in this series (as far as I remember) and don't remember the author as being one I've read either. I have read other books with an archery expert as the main character but never one competing in mounted archery--I didn't even know there were competitions for that sport. I wish there had been a bit more information about mounted archery in the book.
In some ways the book is fairly standard for a Love Inspired Suspense book. Hannah Riley married badly and now that she's a widow, she doesn't want to trust another man to be her husband. Ben Whitman once made a bad decision that ended up with him surviving a wreck while his girlfriend died and his combination of survivor's guilt and shame keep him from wanting a relationship beyond friendship. And both of them are trying to rationalize why they can't be in a relationship with each other.
I didn't find the suspense very compelling either. Someone comes after Hannah because of her ex-husband. I didn't guess who it was but I did partially guess why.
Sheriff Ben Whitman first saw Hannah Riley when she came to live with her grandfather after college. They became friends and later, when she married, Ben promised her late husband he would watch over Hannah and their daughter, Faith. Now, with someone trying to kill her, Hannah and Ben are faced with the fact that their feelings have gone beyond friendship.
Point Blank is the fourth and final book in Smoky Mountain Secrets by Sandra Robbins. This contemporary Love Inspired Suspense was easy to read. It was nice having all the couples from this series in the final chapter.
Point Blank by Sandra Robbins has an easy-to-read writing style; a fast-paced suspense with a dash of romance; and lovable characters with a few suspicious ones thrown into the mix.
Not a hard-hitting Christian challenge, but plenty of prayers were said.
This book jumps right into the story but the conversations between characters is sometimes stilted. But it's a quick read and has a nice twist at the end that I did not see coming.
