Lisa Vanderpump is my absolute favorite housewife on Hollywood Housewives. I love her elegance, her “Brit”, her sense of fair play and her whole character. She is so classy and so beautiful. The book is a feast for the eyes and the recipes sound wonderful but I haven’t had a chance to try them yet. I’m still eating left-overs from Christmas. I love her tid-bits on her life and the stories are interesting, certainly a far cry from most of our lives, but what fun! Any “Lisa” fan will certainly be in love with this book.

Love this book. Not only does it contain lots of delicious recipes and helpful hints and tips about hosting parties, but Lisa gives a brief insight into her life regarding where she's lived, adopting her son and her favorite recipes. Lisa is my all time favorite housewife so to get a glimpse into her fabulous life was the reason I purchased this book. If you're a Lisa fan then you must get this book. But even if you're not, get it anyway because Lisa's book is most definitely simply divine!

Lisa Vanderpump demonstrates exquisite taste in her home and restaurants. With her husband Ken Todd, they have worked their way well into the 1% as restauranteurs. That takes tremendous hard work and talent. To share some of what she has learned through the years, Vanderpump wrote a guide to entertaining with plenty of recipes called Simply Divine: A Guide to Easy, Elegant, and Affordable Entertaining.

Rather than organize it by types of recipes with all the appetizers in the front, she organized it by the mood of the party you might want to host, putting all the contenders for one party in one chapter. This makes it easier for the party host trying to pull together a cohesive menu.

The photos are beautiful and reflect Vanderpump’s personal style of using a near neutral palette of creamy whites and blushing pinks with an eclectic mix of finds from antique stores, flea markets, and boutiques. She urges people not to worry about matching pieces, but instead to focus on getting pieces that are a neutral color. In fact, she says it’s better if they are mismatched.

The first chapters are on planning and presentation. She plans like I do, working backwards. If this needs to be done by this time, then that has to be done by that time. It’s how political campaigns are planned, too. Start at the finish with the number of votes you need and work backwards from there. I really don’t understand how you can plan any other way. These chapters are full of useful tips for arranging flowers, cleaning spills and stains, and otherwise being cool, calm, and gracious while running at high speed underneath.

Her fundamental decency shows through. For example, she takes time out for an insert advising you to tell people they have spinach in their teeth. I don’t know why people wonder whether they should tell someone. Ask yourself, would you rather have the momentary embarrassment of someone telling you or the after-party hours of embarrassment of discovery, wondering how many people saw it without saying a thing? One thing about Vanderpump, even if she cringed inside, she would not call security and throw out a guest that ate a piece of cake frosting before it was served. She knows that entertaining is about being relaxed, welcoming, and kind, not the perfection of the presentation; that it fundamentally about the people, not the picture of the table setting.

She even tell how to organize an elegant formal dinner without killing yourself. She says it’s not a potluck. It’s a potluck without the luck because everyone is assigned to make an appetizer. Assigning what to bring for a potluck is a good idea. One time we had a themed potluck where I worked. The theme was foods that being with the letter “G”. Sadly there was not much gouda, gourds or ground beef but lots and lots of garlic. One of the employees had to go to the ER, it turns out if you eat enough garlic, you can get a scary hot flash.

Simply Divine is a good cookbook and entertaining guide. Vanderpump speaks with the authority of lived experience. It will surprise some who think Vanderpump is some la-di-dah lotus eater. She’s a restauranteur and there is not way to rise in that field without hard labor and long hours of real work. It shows in her tips for making it easier, and for making it seem easier.

The recipes range from simple comfort foods like Yorkshire Pudding, Bangers and Mash, and Shepherd’s Pie to elegant Flourless Chocolate Cake and vibrant Chicken Tikka with Mango Chutney. So if you’re feeling like a cozy party, a sexy party, a party to impress the boss, or bring the family home for the holidays, or a party for a hot summer’s day, she has ideas and recipes for a warm, welcoming, successful result.

There is one thing that does not ring true, though. Here and there are little interjections from her pet Pomeranian Giggy. They are quite twee, but considering how that little dog has everyone in his world catering to his every whim, I would think he spends his time thinking about whether it is impossible to prove any certain truth, also known as the Münchhausen trilemma.

This book was a gift from a friend who knows I love the Housewives and knows that I love to entertain. This is not meant to be a book for high-brow entertaining (although you could defnitely use it for those types of gatherings); Lisa clearly wrote this book for mainstream middle-class women, who like to host get-togethers, but aren't quite sure how to make their efforts visually appealing.

She talks to her readers in a much more informal voice than she uses on the Housewives show--she is playful and humorous i.e. she makes it feel as if she is giving advice to friends. I thought this part might have been a little overplayed, becoming almost corny (I am sure that this is appealing to the fans of the show who pick up the book just because she wrote it). However, the slight patronization inherent in the use of this technique didn't equate with the sophistication of her advice. In other words, she didn't "dumb-down" the content.

Although I did think that some of her ideas were basic, I did discover many more that were not. Her comments about flower-arranging, the use of color, and tea sandwich preparation were particularly interesting. In the end, I came away with so many new ideas that I was able to overcome the faux-camarederie.

As I read through the book, I thoroughly savored the beautiful photographs--I was just drawn to their color and detail. In the first few pages, Lisa explains that she favors presentation and it shows. The photographs are actually so exisquite that the book becomes a full sensory experience. I loved looking at it, I loved coming across the new ideas, and I loved reading her thoughts about viewing the preparation of food as a gift for those whom we love as well as a way to feed our own souls.

I recommend it for fans of the show and for anyone who relishes the joys of entertaining!

I’ve been binge watching “Vanderpump Rules” for the first time and I’m hooked, so now I’m on a mission to read any VPR-adjacent books.

This was actually pretty good for a how-to book, but where it really shone was when Lisa told stories about her own life.

The only "simple" or affordable tip I got from this was to get a store bough cake and cover it with flowers to make it look expensive. haha

I’ve been watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and naturally fell down a rabbit hole researching the cast and their books. After seeing rave reviews of Lisa’s book on Reddit, I had to pick it up. And honestly, coming from someone so impeccably put together, with such a strong sense of etiquette and presentation, it didn’t take much convincing.

The book is lovely and genuinely insightful, seamlessly weaving together lifestyle advice, hosting tips, recipes, and moments from Lisa’s personal life. It’s written so clearly in her own humour and energy that it truly feels like you’re learning directly from her, which I think is what makes it so compelling. That personal voice comes through beautifully.

I really enjoyed how easy it was to read, I ended up getting through a large portion in one sitting without even realising. Overall, it’s a warm, engaging, and well-written book, and if Lisa were to release another one, I’d absolutely read it.

Okay, so this book is more than a mere cookbook but since I am too lazy to add an "entertaining" shelf, it will have to go under cookbooks. Just as well. Most of the recipes seem too fussy for my liking but the ones that caught my attention are ones that I was most surprised to see here. I expected the fancy fare like "Beef Wellington" and "Yorkshire Pudding" but I wasn't expecting a simple lentil soup, a flourless chocolate cake or a red cabbage side dish that all seem doable. I also like the little vignettes sprinkled throughout the book that if you are fan of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills", you will get the references (e.g. a certain unnamed former friend and house guest). Gorgeous photos help round out this impressive book and makes me glad that I read this instead of reading Teresa Giudice's bestsellers!

I adore Lisa Vanderpump. I think she's the epitome of class, beauty and humor. I want to be her when I grow up!

This was a beautifully written book - gorgeous paper, font, styling. Edited perfectly and not one typo which is rare nowadays! Her photos were a knock out. I enjoyed reading her little snipets about life and her take on it. I wish she had included even more tips and ideas and a few less recipes. I wish it were more memoir/entertaining advice and less "cookbookish."

But Lisa continues to inspire me, to make me want to work hard, live hard and experience the divine everywhere. I love her commitment to her family and the way she keeps laughing at herself and life. She can do no wrong in my book.

I am a fan of the Housewives and Lisa is one of my favorites. It was a treat to read her book and absorb her knowledge. I would love to visit one of her restaurants some day.

The book was a visual work of art in itself. I found myself a little overwhelmed by some of the recipes, but a majority were "doable" in my much more simpler world.

I enjoyed the tone of the book. I felt as though Lisa and I were chatting. Sharing valuable information between friends.

I think it is wonderful to have the passion to cook. I wish I had it. I don't. I, however, love to eat what others create. If I ever win the lottery, I am going to hire my private chef. That would be my dream. I love eating healthy and unique dishes.

Thanks for a peek into your world Lisa. You are an inspiration.

First I really liked this book. Then I thought that it was too showy. Then I went back to liking it. There are some beautiful recipes in this book. I photocopied some to try. I want to make the shepherd's pie and a few other things. Very beautiful photos and a pretty book overall. This is good for entertaining and some inspiration, but many of the ideas seem a little old fashioned (not that that's bad) but this cookbook really reminds me of those early Martha Stewart cookbooks from the 80's. Pretty, but a little bit formal especially for everyday. Lots of salads with chopped hard boiled eggs, ham, cherry tomatoes sliced in half etc. I would check this out from the library before you buy it!

OK, I'm sure I am going to have people wondering why I read this book. OMG, I admit I watch RHOBH and I also LIKE Lisa Vanderpump. The book was straightforward and I love the place setting diagram because my kids set the table especially for holidays and I can just show them the diagram!! I do love Lisa's style although i don't think I'll ever be able to arrange flowers the way she does. There's something about her that is uppity and down-to-earth at the same time, PLUS she loves dogs. I found the book to be helpful and full of good, simple ideas. She makes sense to me :)

I enjoyed this book more than I expected to. I like Lisa, but was pretty sure this book would be too high-end for me. She has a nice, easy style, however, and I was happily surprised that she includes quite a few tips that I feel I would really use. I love her sense of humor on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and that comes through in her book too. I borrowed it from the library, but definitely will purchase my own copy. Very enjoyable read.

I really liked this book! Lisa taught me a lot about entertaining, and you don't have to have alot of money to do so. She does talk a lot about using fresh flowers for decoration on plates and centerpieces. I probably will never do this because it is so expensive. But maybe I could grow my own flowers at some point?

I like Lisa Vanderpump from "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" and I like this book. It has gorgeous photos and I like how it is divided by occasions. While the recipes are not what you would call 30-minute meals, I have made a couple of them, and they are delicious. Perfect book for someone who enjoys cooking and making things look elegant.

Another typical housewife book, cashing in on notoriety. However, her recipes are very European which is refreshing and her witty inserts are written by her... which can't be said for many. She is at least trying to be relate-able to the average American.

This is a beautiful book which reminds me of slower, quieter times. But, best yet, it has given me some ideas of how I can bring some of these simple elegant ettiquette rules to my daughters' and granddaughters' generations.

I think it is time to bring back the afternoon tea.

I did not know it was a cookbook. The recipes were very reflective of her travels in London, the south of France, and southern California. I will now have to find truffle oil. I adore Lisa. I would truly like to hear more of her commentary on fashion, and design.
