Gerald and Linda Lawton had one child, and though they wanted a larger family, it was impossible that they would ever have more children. After a terrible accident injures their son, a clerical error thrusts the Lawtons into Marta’s world… …and Marta’s world was impossible from the start.
Marta's Pod picks up five years after Mr. Higginson's novel Cardan's Pod ended. This is a tale about an extended family - who could be any family living life in close quarters, with all the ups, downs, and in-betweens - except they are mermaids living on a protected island and hiding from the world. While the concept might seem bizarre, this is a faith-based, or Christian, novel. As I told my skeptical husband, "Mermaids can be Christians and love Jesus, too."
I've enjoyed following the life of the pod as they grow and learn and, THEN,... , I can't tell you any more without spoiling the story. You'll just have read Marta's Pod to find out why this is more than a book about mermaids. (Reading Cardan's Pod first is helpful but not necessary. )
