Women Leading smashes tired prescriptions that women should lead like men, highlighting a long history of innovative female leadership. Christine Nixon and Amanda Sinclair draw on their own and thousands of others' experiences to argue it is women who provide new inspiration for change towards inventive, inclusive and productive organisations and communities. Through stories, examples and research, they show how to be a positive leader while maintaining your health and humour. They will provoke you to think differently about stepping forward and inspire you to seek opportunities to lead your way.
An engaging book that skims over a wealth of leadership advice, research and experience. Whilst written in 2017, it remains current and thought provoking.
The highlights for me were examples of theory in action, mainly stories from Christine Nixon’s career but at times, also Amanda Sinclair’s. As an Australian/Victorian, I loved the local examples that I (mostly) remember happening. I only wish there had been more case studies / examples!!
The book signposts to a range of further reading, most of which I have dipped in and out of over the years. For a new leader, I imagine this would be extremely helpful. For me, it felt more like a refresh of ideas / concepts.
I would recommend this book to women early in their leadership careers.
