COLLEGE 101 is an anthology of essays, short stories, poems, letters and contemporary articles that address the issues of college life and success. Intended for freshman seminar courses--sometimes called University 101 or Freshman Orientation--it can be used as a core text or supplement to a study skills textbook. This reader is arranged by topic and includes selections that address academic concerns, person-social concerns, and career information and planning. Apparatus for each selection includes introductory material about the selection, discussion questions, suggestions for journal writing, and short and long writing assignments.
A good collection of short stories and poems written by students and professors throughout the generations. I have to read it for the First Year Seminar class for which I will be a Teaching Assistant, and it has proven helpful in coming up with lessons along with the professor I'm working for. She has used it before and I see why. A lot of material in the book many freshman can relate to. And more entries make them think about what having a college education means, what college is really all about, and what you want to take with you when you graduate. I highly recommend it not just for freshman. But all college students.
