Jamison Valley #5

The Bitterroot Inn

Rate this book
Her past. His secrets. They have more in common than she knows.

Maisy is happily content with the life she’s built for herself and her young son in small-town Prescott, Montana. Her child is thriving, her business is growing, and her family is as close as they’ve ever been. But when a handsome stranger walks into the lobby of her motel, her simple life is swept up in a wave of affection for his gentle heart. None of those feelings can be trusted, though. She made that mistake before with another man. The man she murdered.

Hunter was a different man when he first saw Maisy Holt from afar. He took one look at her and ran in the opposite direction. But years later, he’s back in Montana and unable to keep his distance. He shouldn’t have tried to find her but he never was good at rejecting temptation. The promise of the good she could bring into his life is too hard to resist. Maybe if he can disguise the lies and hide the deceit, he can keep her from learning the truth. Because his only chance at a future with her is by burying his past.

✭ ✭ ✭ 4.5 STARS ✭ ✭ ✭

First things first - THE BITTERROOT INN has one of the most beautiful covers I have seen this year. It is simple and captivates you without needing a naked chest to capture your attention. I LOVE when authors manage that feat, it's not easy to do but those who take a chance and give you something special stand out in the vast amount of romance book covers.

I love small-town romances, they are among my favorite tropes (is small-town romance a trope?). There is something endearing and cozy that charms me every single time. I love how everyone is in each other's business, that when push comes to shove every member in the community helps one of their own if they are in need.

In Prescott, Montana it's no different. We meet Maisy there, single mom and fairly new owner of the town's motel, The Bitterroot Inn.  She is as happy as she can be, considering she killed the father of her child and has to live with the repercussion. Her motel is her saving grace, when she is sad or upset the work there provides enough distraction and clears her thoughts.

Enter Hunter Faraday, a gorgeous young man she knows nothing about but is fascinated with. And the attraction goes both ways...but Hunter isn't very forthcoming with information about his life before he came to Montana and if there is something Maisy can't handle it's secrets.

Maisy is a refreshingly candid young woman who had her share of tragedy. The only good thing that came out of the relationship with her ex is her son who she adores. It is also her biggest worry, is she a good mom? Can she let a stranger, somebody who behaves a little like her dead ex but is yet so different in their lives? I loved how much thought Maisy gave this, her child was always her first consideration but she's human and her solitary life makes her long for a man she can share her huge capacity to love and her worries and thoughts. Maisy is a beautiful heroine who thinks first and acts when she has all the facts. She's levelheaded, friendly, somebody you want to be friends with. What I absolutely admired about her was the time she gave herself to deal with Hunter's secrets. Forgiveness came on her terms.

Hunter is unforgettable. He has been in love with Maisy from afar since he saw her in the maternity ward, about to give birth to her son. Three and a half years later he's done staying away.

Whatever you do, shit-for-brains, do not ask for a room. You have a plan, remember?
“I was wondering if you have a vacancy?”
Fuckwad.

He wants her, in his life, in his bed, to keep her safe and make her smile everyday. First he needs to tell her his secrets though, if only he could find a perfect time. I loved how upfront Hunter was about his feelings for Maisy. He adored her and the way he was with her son?

His dirty-talking skills were totally unexpected. Holy shit, the guy had a mouth on him. He was perfect, kind, funny, and oh so sexy. He had the patience of a saint and, gah, his remorse was so palpable and beautiful.

"How do we move past it all?”
“One day at a time,” he whispered. “And when you’re ready to start again, I’ll be right here.”

When his secrets come to light it's because of his inaction. I thought a man especially with his alpha tendencies wouldn't wait for his woman to be ready to hear them. This is my little niggle, right there. He knew that the way they would unfold would hurt her more than if he had told her himself. This and his pet name for her. "Blondie" was a little unoriginal but it didn't bother me too much.

This story is a bit like candy, you unwrap it and then slowly, slowly you get to the bottom of it. It takes a while, granted, but at some point everything becomes clear. I had most of it figured out early on but I still enjoyed to see how it panned out. I adored Maisy's motley crew and safety network of friends and relatives. They are people you want in your life. The epilogue was phenomenal and really makes me want to read the other books in this series.

The Bitterroot Inn is my first book by Devney Perry and she couldn't leave a better impression. Her writing style is captivating, I saw the town, the lake, the landscape before my eyes exactly how she described it. If you can't tell, I'm in love with this story and now I'm salivating to read her other books in this series.

"I came here thinking I was looking out for you, when really, I was looking for you.”

Ah-mazing!!! The Bitterroot Inn was the perfect way to close out the Jamison Valley series. Maisy played such a huge part in the first book and every book in between that it makes perfect sense that she was the final story.

Years later and Maisy still struggles with the aftermath of being forced to kill her son’s father for survival. She gave up a great career as a nurse and immersed herself into taking over the towns motel and making it succeed all the while raising her beautiful son.

As the years go by she has watched one loved one after another find their soul mate. She longs for that same type of love but isn’t sure she can ever trust again after Everett. Until Hunter comes to town.

Holy cow! It only took two seconds into the introduction of Hunter and I was in love with him myself! Despite his air of mystery, I knew he was going to be the one Maisy has been waiting for. I don’t think I have ever wanted to skip to the end of a book so bad as I did with this one. I couldn’t figure out what Hunter was hiding and I had to keep telling myself to be patient and find out when Maisy does. It was not what I was expecting!

Not only did the author blow me away with this book, but also with the series as a whole. I’ve loved every minute of getting to know each and every character in this beautiful town of Prescott, Montana. The way Devney Perry wrapped up everyone’s story and hinted at the new generation made this sentimental fool a happy woman. The Bitterroot Inn was a bittersweet end. I’m so happy to have everyone’s story but so very sad to see that it’s over. This series is a must read!

I have to say I was expecting so much more from this series. The beginning of the story and the blurb is promising. But the plot and the execution, again, fall boring in the middle. Miss Perry kept on dragging the story by putting too many plot.

I only feel lukewarm toward Hunter and Maisy. I found their attraction is not enough to elevate the story. And the twist of who is Hunter, also predictable since beginning. Need more drama to make it work.

Overall this is still an OK read. Just OK.

4,5 “I love this series” stars.

Let’s establish something right away: Devney writes the sexiest males!
Where can I find Doctor Kalvin Klein? I feel feverish all of a sudden*add fanning myself*
What? It’s the sex/paint scene you say?
Well you may be right because that scene with a man on his knees will be religiously stored to get back at the end of 2018 when Angelica will once again enroll me in one of her challenges with “the best sex scene”.HOT!!!!

”fanning”/

Sorry I digress.

The Bitterroot Inn is once more an excellent addition to Devney’s series featuring sexy and protective males and wonderful heroines all this happening under the protective (and inquisitive) eyes of Prescott tight knit community.
In about five books Devney has built her whole universe in Montana with recurring characters who feel now part of my family and friends. That’s what I LOVE in Devney’s books: the consistency, the main and side characters that we learn to know and like. You could compare this to Kristen Ashley”s series like Rock Chick or ….
Devney writes alpha male *my favorite kind* strong heroines colorful side characters and a good plot with just the right amount of twists and angst not to overdo it. All this happening in dreamy Montana.

We got to know Maisy in The Coppersmith Farmhouse and know what tragedy happened to her and Gigi. The Bitterroot Inn is featuring Maisy as main character right alongside Hunter Faraday also known as Dr Calvin Klein.

I can honestly say that Maisy is in a tie with Gigi as my most loved female character for this series. Maybe because they both are great moms and I can feel a kinship?
Maisy went to Hell and back. What Everett did to her still has repercussion in her life.
She protects her son Cody like a mama bear and I have the utmost respect for that mom who prefers painting at night her son’s room while he is at a sleepover just to surprise him. Sleep is second to Cody in Maisy’s books.
She also is a hard worker and a pillar of her community. Her intense curiosity and endless chatting are adorable quirks. “Maisy Holt was pure joy. She was goodness personified. She was a beam of sunshine.”
She has a huge heart and not a angry bone in her body.
“You’re forgiving, not a doormat. And I think that’s a damn strong trait. When someone hurts you, the easy thing to do is cut them out, but you don’t. You give second chances when people probably don’t deserve them. You keep your heart open instead of becoming bitter and jaded. There’s nothing doormat about you.”
Do you see now why she is my favorite female character with Gigi?

When she meets Hunter for the first time it’s insta-lust. Kaboom! The room went suddenly as hot as Death Valley and her brain cells temporarily hightailed to another part of her anatomy leaving her a mess. Speechless and unable to form a coherent thought aside “I want!”.
“My visitor was straight out of a magazine. His light brown hair was tied back in a neat man bun. His strong jaw was covered in an expertly manicured beard. His caramel-brown eyes, framed with long, dark lashes, were aimed at me with such intensity they nearly knocked me off my stool. “
”manbun”/

Confession: give me Dr Hottie and I would not fare better.
Fortunately she was not alone in her brainless state Hunter was not better. He would have given the moon to Maisy and his naked body with a red knot around. LOL
"I’d seen her for the first time just a minute ago, but one look and all I could think about was making her mine. Two minutes ago, I would have told you that sh@t didn’t happen in real life. Men like me didn’t believe in love at first sight. Two minutes ago, I was a chump. "

If you don’t like insta-love/lust don’t read it! If it’s one of your favorite trope just dive in!

It’s now established that the chemistry was off the charts BUT Maisy is careful as she is not alone for one. She does not want to introduce a new male in Cody’s life just to see him disappear weeks after leaving Cody inconsolable.
Maisy hesitates to trust another man with her heart. She already made a terrible choice with Cody’s father and Hunter is not forthcoming. He has secrets and Maisy will have to trust him without knowing his whole story. Once she’ll know everything will she still want him?
For someone as curious as Maisy it will be a real challenge to stop prying and let him unveil his past at his own pace.
“And stop being such a total flipping hypocrite. My closet was full of skeletons, skeletons I had no intention of letting out this early in a potential relationship. I couldn’t expect him to reveal his secrets when I was keeping my own. It was time for me to chill out and just let things develop. “

Now their road will not be an easy one especially with Maisy’s tendency to kick Hunter in the nuts… yes the lady can give a ninja a run for his money. Beau taught her well!
I personally think try hurting a man in his male parts and if he sticks he is THE one LOL.

Let’s not forget that old secrets will resurrect and an unexpected villain will threaten Maisy’s happiness.

Hunter is a dreamy hero.
Not only is he handsome but he is very protective of Maisy and he is in love with Cody. He would do anything for the little boy and I’m a goner for a man dedicated to kids. As Gigi said: “There’s something truly magical about a man falling in love with your child, isn’t there?”
He is supportive, caring, smart, gifted… everything you could dream of. From the first moment he met Maisy he fell for her. He really is the right choice for Maisy. He is a good man.
“She had her brother and her family for that. I was just a stranger. Still, I wanted the job. I wanted to be the man rubbing her back and kissing her hair. I wanted to hold her hand and let her squeeze it with all her might. I wanted to tell her how beautiful she was as her baby made its way into the world. How fucked up was that?”

I also adored the continuity in the series. Side characters in this book were main characters in the others and we get to see what happens to Jess, Gigi, Rowen, Sabrina, Beau, … Life goes on babies are born, kids grow and go to prom. It’s like keeping in touch with old friends.

A must read if you have read Devney’s other books and if you haven’t already what are you waiting for???

The best things came after the worst thing...

The Jamison Valley series has been one of the best I've read in a while. It's the comfort of catching up with friends, seeing them change and watching them grow. With each instalment read, I worry that we've reached the end. I don't want it to end and I'm sure there are plenty more love stories that could be told about the Jamison Valley residents.

We met Maisy in the beginning and we've seen her fight for her life, find a new path and create a future for herself and Cody, her son. It hasn't been easy and at times could be quite lonely. She's got great friends and an amazing family, but she would love to find someone to hold her hand and help navigate parenting. One day a man walks in her door and makes her heart flutter.

Hunter has a BIG secret and the woman he plans to love forevermore will probably leave him if she ever found out the truth. The feelings Hunter experiences around Maisy and Cody may be worth the risk, though. If he could just make her fall in love with him, maybe she could learn to forgive him.

I really enjoyed The Bitterroot Inn and I'm glad that Maisy has been given her chance at an HEA. While it was hard to forgive Hunter, it was also hard to hate him for the secrets. He's such a good man...and sexy...and dirty talks with the best.

The storyline kept my attention from start to finish and I never felt like it dragged. The characters were interesting and the connection between Hunter, Maisy and Cody were sweet. I loved that Hunter was in love with Cody as much as he was with Maisy.

I'm a fan and I can't wait for more from this author.

Where to even start? This was the most amazing book! I absolutely loved everything about it! Every. Single. Thing.

Maisy Holt is a survivor and a savior. She survived Everett and while doing so saved her son Coby. It took a few years and life changes before she was “okay”, and everyone in Prescott will tell you that she’s moved on and all of that nastiness is in the past. With her to-do list and her renovations, the Bitterroot Inn has been her saving grace.

description

Even if she occasionally feels a twinge of envy when in the presence of her friends and family and their significant others, she’s not quite ready to actively pursue a relationship. That is, until Hunter Faraday walks into her lobby.

Hunter has a deep dark secret that he’s keeping close. Protecting it until the time is right, as if there could ever be such a time. He was drawn to Maisy the first time he laid eyes on her and now that he’s returned to Prescott he finds himself pulled to her against all common sense and self-warnings. From the moment he heard her laughter and saw her smile he belonged to her. But how can a man build a relationship with the woman of his heart when he’s forced to hold so much of himself back?

description

I cannot say how much I adored these characters! My heart hurt for Maisy as I learned some of the techniques she had indulged in to help her deal with the effects Everett’s words had on her. On the surface she is a woman of strength but as the story progresses that strength grows and takes root deep inside of her.

Hunter comes with quite a bit of baggage himself and my heart was heavy when all of his secrets were revealed. Ultimately, he was a man deeply in love and prepared to do whatever it took to make things right.

That right there feeds my romantic soul. Hunter never once gave up and he made sure Maisy knew that he never would. Sigh.

description

Some interesting things I learned from The Bitterroot Inn:

Kicking a man in the cojones can be a precursor to falling in love

You can forget Santa Claus if you’ve got The Package Man - get your minds out of the gutter

Nervous energy can be transmitted from the page into your body resulting in tapping feet, bouncing legs and chewed off nails – Ms. Perry owes me a manicure

One text message can turn you into a sobbing mess – oh gawd that text killed me!

With just a look, I’m already in love with Mason Drummond

And the perfect epilogue can make you smile even as you weep because it is just…so…perfect.

description

Thank you Devney Perry for introducing me to all of the Jamison Valley characters that were parading in your head. I’ve absolutely loved getting to know them and while I will certainly revisit them in the future, I am saddened that for now the door is closing on this beautiful and amazing series.

I received an advanced copy from the author but I choose to keep my pre-order purchase.

I was super excited to get to Maisy's story after reading The Outpost. She's a single mom running the inn and I couldn't wait to see how her story played out. Maisy was part of the kidnapping that happened in book one and she's now just trying to raise her son while running a successful inn. The moment Hunter steps into her inn, though, she's at a loss for words. Hunter is mysterious and gorgeous and Maisy can't help the way she feels around him. While she doesn't know a lot about him, they find themselves hanging out more and falling for each other. I really enjoyed how Hunter genuinely loved Maisy's son and how protective Maisy was of her son. Their romance was cute and I loved seeing all of the other couples from the series pop up in this book. I will say that I was a bit annoyed at Maisy for not demanding answers from Hunter that ended up causing a lot of problems in the end of the book. If she had just asked about him and not let him keep so many secrets, they could have avoided so many of their problems. I know he didn't want her to know because of reasons, but I'm not sure how she could date a guy and now know simples things about him and be completely fine with it, especially if he was around her son. Other than that small thing, though, I really enjoyed this single mom, small town romance!

4 1/2 "Life's Good" Stars!

I was so happy to see Maisy find her happily ever after. She deserved it and Hunter was just the right man. This felt like the end, but there's one more story to be told. Sarah and Milo. I'm happy they get their story told.
Happy reading!

"Is it your life´s goal to scare me to death?"
"No." He used his thumb to wipe a paint drop off my cheek. "My life´s goal is to keep that smile on your face."

This is a two POV book, told by the POV´s of Maisy and Hunter.

I really liked Maisy as a FMC. She is such a strong but also flawed woman which made her really relatable. I loved Maisy´s and Hunter´s relationschip and I loved how they worked through their problems together. The chemistry was definitely there, as well as the tension. This is another single parent trope book in the series and I loved how much Hunter loved Maisy´s son Coby and how quickly he got along with him. I really loved the romance in this one and how they were both working on themselves to not only better them but also the relationship. Maisy was really distrustful towards Hunter in the beginnging due to events that happened earlier in the series, and I loved the character development that happened for her. Although I have to say, as a blonde woman, I am not the biggest fan of the nickname "Blondie".

Regarding the side characters I said it before and I´ll say it again, they are awesome. It feel like everybody has their own story and depth to them and they don´t feel like they are just there for the story. I absolutely love The Coffee Club, it is literally a group of old men meeting up for the towns gossip over coffee. The friend group Maisy and her friends have feels more like a big family instead of just friends and I absolutely love that.

Plotwise I really liked it, I loved the character development that happened; especially for Maisy, she has overcome so much in this book. I loved the new relationships that were formed and further developed and I absolutely love all of them interacting with each other. The barbeque or dinner partys that were thrown with all of them there and the kids running around just felt so cozy and homey. I really liked the pacing of this book, although some parts felt a little bit slow for me. Another tiny little minus is that I thought I would be seeing more of Pax in this series, which is sadly not the case.

Overall it was an amazing read, and I can´t wait to dive into the last Jamison Valley book soon. I think everybody who has been reading my reviews knows that I am obsessed with this series by now.

3.5 STARS

Maisy Holt is a survivor and a rocking mum, after all she has been through, she is finally in a happy space, having the love of her son and family. She is also kept busy and fulfilled by her renovations of the Bitterroot inn. Romantic entanglements are ones she tries to steer clear off, but her friends/sister-in-law won’t stop trying to set her up – leading to some very disappointing blind dates. When Hunter comes to stay at the Bitterroot Inn, the mysterious man has Maisy’s pulse racing. And Hunter, well he was drawn to Maisy the very first time he saw her – a few years ago, but he kept away knowing it was for the best, but now he is determined to protect her and her son, and can no longer resist the temptation to be near her. The problem is that secrets always have a habit of coming out, sooner or later, and the ones Hunter is keeping could tear apart the relationship he is building with Maisy.

Maisy’s son Coby was adorable, and I loved seeing the relationship he had with his mum and Hunter as well as his grandparents and uncles.

I did find it a tad unrealistic that Hunter’s occupation never came up in conversations Maisy and he had, or that she didn’t over hear someone talking about his job. Also, the unease Maisy had with hospitals, why wasn’t that depicted at the start, in the prologue when Hunter is in the hospital and Maisy is coming out of the lift with her brother there is no undercurrent/depiction of any fear coming from her. Her fear is totally understandable but the author’s depiction of it needed to be consistent.

Overall, this was an enjoyable re-read, one that I’m glad I was able to finally grab as I do see myself re-re-reading this.

Angst level is The heat in this was ok, but I did want more, it didn’t sizzle and snap off the page as I would have liked.

“I’m staying until you make me leave.”

Oh wow, we loved this book so much, Hunter and Maisy’s love story was so emotional yet so heart-warmingly beautiful too. There’s something about Devney Perry’s heroes that have our hearts melt into puddles on the floor and their passion sets our pulse on fire. They’re not bad guys or anti-heroes, rather they’re sexy commanding good men with huge hearts. They’re refreshing yet also reminiscent of the book heroes we fell in love with many years ago. We actually think this author’s heroes are some of our favourites.

‘I’d come to Prescott with a plan; to look out for this beautiful soul. My plan had just changed. Now I was here to win her heart.’

Maisy tells herself that she’s content with making her Bitterroot Inn motel a success as well as with her sweetheart son, Coby who is the apple of her eye. The relationship between mother and son was wonderfully special despite her own unjustified doubts. She’s got a wonderful tightknit family that are there every step of the way and fabulous friends around her. Maisy still struggles though with flashbacks and the after effects from when the father of her son committed a horrific crime against her and her friend. Memories are suppressed, but every so often they resurface. As far as heroines go, Maisy is everything we love; she’s vulnerable yet strong and not afraid to stand up for herself and her much loved son. Her vulnerability stems from having to defend herself to a traumatic end. We loved Maisy and we found we connected completely with her and her struggles. She’s a brave and beautiful woman inside out, with a heart of absolute gold. She deserves a love of the soul mate variety and we willed her on when we met Hunter Faraday. What a man!

“I’m the man falling in love with you, Maisy. I’m the man falling in love with your son.”

Hunter Faraday enters Maisy’s life when he books a room at The Bitterroot Inn. She immediately feels an intense connection and can’t ignore the strong flutter in her belly. Hunter is a strapping gorgeous man with a fierce protective streak yet a gentle disposition, oh and a filthy mouth when the occasion calls for it. Wow, the heat was palpable and the romance oh so lovely. However, Hunter has secrets; secrets that could sadly put a dampener on this beautiful forever romance that we were willing to happen.

“I need you, Maisy. Please believe that. I know I fucked this all up, but please know, I did it all for you. And I’d do it again.”

Both Maisy and Hunter had to go on their own individual journeys in this small town romance and we have to say theirs is our favourite book in this series. It made us smile, cry, swoon and feel that warm happy -book love- feeling we get when we are reading something very special. We loved catching up with everyone and we know this is a series we’ll come back to for a re-read.We have to mention the epilogue too, it was absolutely one of those that just completes a story perfectly, making it that much more, were upon finishing we just sat and stared into space for a while with a silly happy smile on our faces.

“You are enough.”

4.5⭐️ I AM IN LOVEEEEEE!!! This book was so good. I typically don’t like insta love but I didn’t it mind it here because the characters were so lovable. Maisy and Hunter were so darn cute and the love Hunter had for Coby made my heart so happy. ALSO THE PLOT TWIST GOT ME GOOD!! I wasn’t expecting that to happen AT ALL.

The epilogue got my teary eyed, getting to see this group find love has been so wonderful…. it’s a bittersweet goodbye to this friend group.

I have mixed feelings about this book. Some parts I loved and some parts not so much. It took me a while to get into and it was until nearly the halfway point that it held my attention. The hero was amazing. He is such a sweet alpha and is fantastic with the heroine's son. The heroine was okay. Overall a good addition to this series but not my favorite.

Books 1, 2, and 4 of this series were big hits with me, my fellow romance book loving friends. Book 3, well, not so much. It was only a 3 star read for me. But never in my wildest dreams would I have guessed Book 5, The Bitterroot Inn, would turn out to be such a bitter disappointment. In fact, I never would have pegged this book’s writing style to be from the same author who wrote the previous Jamison Valley sequels. I completely take back the complimentary Kristen Ashley comparisons I made in previous reviews. At least in this one that aspect was not present.

Right from the start the writing felt off. Told in alternating first person, dual POV of view, the dialogue often came across choppy and not particularly well polished. Even sing-songy, corny at times comes to mind. Pickle..the dog? Please! No, just, no...That’s just not fair to do to any poor canine. I found that name annoying, not cute.

Need better examples? Well, Maisy was a bit too whimsical Cinderella-ish, “woo is me every man is always going to let me down forever more” for my taste. In fact, I think she even agrees with me….“How did I get so lucky? … If this works out, I’ll be thanking my fairy godmother for years to come.” Yeah, I actually laughed aloud at that mental monologue, considering I was already drawing comparisons to that fairy tale character.

Her irrational linking all doctors to being non-dateable, lying, psychopaths had me thinking she needed to take a good hard look in the mirror. Maybe she could borrow the one from Snow White and ask, “Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the craziest one of all?” I’m thinking her image will stay staring back at her. Holding a noble profession against someone added to the silliness, folks. Pinching herself as punishment to change who she was only added to my dismay over Maisy’s line of thinking.

During a conversation where tight lipped Hunter wasn’t revealing his past, Maisey thought, “I opened my mouth to explore further, but didn’t want to go down that bunny trail.” (eyeroll) Discussing a former date who ate his own snot with Hunter was just plain weird and awful. Actually, discussing it at all was disgusting, which I’m sad to say she did so with another character, as well.

Going from zero to smexy, complete with ditching clothes, moments after their first kiss felt off to me, as well. Mainly because she was constantly admitting she didn’t know him that well so didn’t trust him. Afterwards, explaining Hunter’s soon to be frequent special nightly sleepovers in mommy’s bed to her little kid felt inappropriate, to say the least.

I kept reading only because I wanted to know the deep dark secret Hunter was hiding, which was revealed around Chapter 18. Surprisingly, he did turn out to be quite the good guy.

Trying to stay in the storyline until the bitter end, I again questioned that decision with the quickie under the bleachers scene during a packed football game. Folks, it felt thrown in just to add a naughty sex scene.

With all the positive reviews, I’m glad others enjoyed this one. I just feel this romantic tale could have been so much better. The potential was there, but it came across as a missed opportunity to me. After the big reveal, I skimmed over most of the rest of it. It by far was my least favorite of this series. I'm being generous at two stars. Hunter's good guy intentions early on then midway through are the only reason I didn't one star this book.

Top Favorite

“Damn, this woman was going to wreck me. Five minutes with her and I wanted a lifetime.”

My very first TOP FAVORITE of 2018 goes to the incredibly talented Devney Perry and her final book in the Jamison Valley Series, THE BITTERROOT INN. I was a newbie to the likes of Ms. Perry and after devouring one novel of hers…ONE…I fell in LOVE with her writing, her characters, and her insane talent. I then binge-read her Jamison Valley series, and night after night, if it was even possible, I fell even harder for her brand of romantic story-telling. This was GREAT for me because I didn’t have to wait long for the highly anticipated final chapter, which is Maisy and Hunter’s story. I did not see this book coming. I mean, I knew it was going to be FANTASTIC, but I had no idea of the emotional punch that it packed. If you ask me if I have a favorite of the series, I won’t be able to answer that. Each book rocked my soul. Each character stole my heart. Each word, page, chapter, novel…fed my addiction for all things romance and I can’t tell you how HAPPY that I am to have found such greatness in Devney Perry’s books. Now that this series has come to an end, I don’t know what I’ll do. I’ll probably reread these books over and over again to quench my thirst, but what I DO KNOW is that we haven’t heard the last of Ms. Perry. 2017 is the year that I fell in love with this series. 2018 will be the year that other readers will discover the genius that is Devney Perry.

“Our first kiss was going to be the lasting kind. The kind she’d never forget. The kiss that erased all others from her past.”

Those of you who have been waiting for Maisy’s happily ever after, get ready for one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. It’s beautiful. It’s heartbreaking. It’s surprising. It’s EPIC. But you already know this going in if you’ve read the others in the series. THE BITTERROOT INN will ground your heart, embrace your soul, and wreck your mind. You will cry tears of joy and tears of sadness, but in the end…you will have great satisfaction in knowing that this happily ever after was worth all of it. What a way to start off the NEW YEAR! I can’t wait to see what this romantic mastermind has in store for us next!

This one was going to get 3 stars, but...

I hated the heroine. She was just so stupid. Incredibly so. Hunter, the hero, was too much for her. She got upset because Hunter didn't tell her he was a doctor - but oh wait, he tried! Many times and got interrumped by her family several times. Also, girl, you had one month to ask him what his job was. Come on. That was one of the things that bothered me the most about this book, the fact that as plot twist the author used the 'he didn't tell me' card when in reality was the exact opposite.

The same thing happened when the 'big plot twist' came. Hunter was keepping a secret and he didn't tell Maizy (I think that was her name?) until it was too late. But oh wait! He did try to tell her, several times, and she kept telling him no. She had the courage to get mad at him for not telling her sooner and made him grovel for a month before getting back together.

She was just an idiot. I hated her, she honestly ruined the book for me. The book was too long and had stupid drama.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve finished a book and actually said “that was a good story”—and that’s exactly how I felt after finishing this book. Funny thing is, I didn’t even care too much for Maisy’s story to begin with but she’s turned out to be my favorite heroine in this series.

It took five books, but this series has finally grown on me!

“I’d come to Prescott with a plan: to look out for this beautiful soul. My plan had just changed. Now I was here to win her heart.”

4.5 beautiful, beautiful stars!

Wow, I loved this book! Talk about finishing a series on a high, Devney Perry has delivered a gorgeously romantic, functional, sweet and passionate love story for the finale of her Jamison Valley series. I lost myself in the swoony emotion of Hunter and Maisy’s story and I loved it!

Maisy was introduced in the first book of this series, The Coppersmith Farmhouse, where she went through the unthinkable in order to save herself, her best friend and her unborn child. Now it’s five years later and she is the proud single mother to an adorable four year old boy, her business (Prescott’s Inn) is going from strength to strength, and she has a wonderful group of friends and family around her. The only thing missing in her life is the love that her friends have found. But she has trust issues from her past, and she knows that if she lets a man into her and her son’s life, he’s going to have to be special.

I wanted a strong and honest man to come crashing into my life. I wanted to be swept off my feet in a whirlwind romance. But more than anything, I wanted to find a man who I could trust completely. A man who wouldn’t hide things from me.

Hunter knows all about Maisy. In fact, from our first introduction to him, we know that he has visited Prescott in the past and has some kind of tie to her. He’s protective of her, but more than that, he’s infatuated with the gorgeous, bubbly blonde, and when he returns to Prescott once again, he finds himself unable to keep his distance.

I was staring at her and not wanting to blink. I was doing my best to ignore the voice of reason in the back of my mind.
Hunter, turn your ass around.
I took one step further into the motel’s lobby.
Do not speak. Leave.
“Hi.” I crossed the remaining distance to the counter.
“Um, hi,” she squeaked, then cleared her throat. “Hello. Hi. Uh, good morning.” The flush of her cheeks was so fucking beautiful, my heart pumped double time.
Whatever you do, shit-for-brains, do not ask for a room. You have a plan, remember?
“I was wondering if you have a vacancy?”
Fuckwad.

I was so excited to see Maisy and Hunter together. From a shy and somewhat awkward beginning to surprising run-ins, flirty banter and sweet and tender moments, these two are just magic together!

I was flustering her – an effect I had on a lot of women – but this was the first time I’d ever enjoyed it. I didn’t want Maisy to be uneasy, but I really fucking liked that she found me attractive.
Because I found her incredible.

You can feel that there is a connection there, and as Hunter slowly starts to push, Maisy begins to let him in.

“If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m staying until you make me leave.”

And oh my God, I love these two! Maisy is gorgeous, and Hunter is an absolute sweetheart, and together they are something truly special. Their relationship is paced slowly, which is realistic given their situation, but it builds beautifully. It’s sweet, fun, and so freaking sexy (who would have thought Hunter would have such a deliciously dirty mouth?), and with the addition of Maisy’s son, Coby, every moment is just gold.

“I’m the man falling in love with you, Maisy. I’m the man falling in love with your son.”

But they do have their issues to overcome. Most notably is Hunter’s big secret. We have a hint of it from the beginning of the book, and I was madly theorising trying to figure it all out. And though Maisy and Hunter are super-functional together, you just know it’s going to be huge, and that it’s going to be something that has the power to ruin the happiness they have found together. And when it comes… the feels! It’s heartwrenchingly emotional, and I could empathise with both of them and all they were going through, but it’s written well and I thought it added a wonderful added dimension to the story.

“How do we move past it all?”
“One day at a time,” he whispered. “And when you’re ready to start again, I’ll be right here.”

The rest of the Jamison Valley crew are all a part of the story, and it was great to see them again. All of the boys have been super protective of Maisy and Coby, so seeing them all adjust to Hunter coming into the picture was fantastically entertaining.

Michael looked over his shoulder from his seat below me. “Beau will give you the full lecture, but I’ll just say this: if you hurt my sister, I’ll help him hide your body.”

But more than just catching up with each of the couples from the series so far, this book provides a great sense of closure to their stories, finishing off the series beautifully.

This was such a great read. An emotional yet functional romance between two characters that you cannot help but love, and a gorgeously sweet, and sexy love story. I loved it!

4.5 stars!

This was a super cute single parent romance. I loved seeing Maisy thrive after the trauma she went through in book one. So glad she got her HEA.

Well well well, if it isn’t my new favorite Jamison Valley book! Hands down, the best of the series. I loved it!! There is an element of danger and suspense to all of these, but The Bitterroot Inn was particularly unique. The second that Hunter lays eyes on Maisy, it’s all over for him. The same for Maisy. Basically love at first sight and sweet as can be.

Maisy is raising adorable Coby, the result of a disastrous relationship that ended with her killing his father to save their lives. Talk about tragic backstory! Anywho, handsome stranger Hunter arrives three years later to her hotel and the rest is history!

Well, not quite, since Hunter has some pretty heavy secrets. But his relationship with Maisy and Coby was just amazing and wonderfully sweet to read. Maisy is so lovable and so is Coby. The dynamic was really well written, and I loved the epilogue beyond words!

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Devney Perry brings readers another heartfelt and irresistible love story in the final book of the Jamison Valley series. Having loved this series from the start I was both excited and a bit sad to see these characters, who have quickly claimed my heart, leave us. But, I am excited to see where Devney takes us next and am looking forward to reading a new book from her.

As with all of the books in the series, readers are going to taken to a quaint, small town featuring some of the most swoon worthy alpha males they have ever come across. With them are the leading ladies who capture their heart and become their everlasting love. If you're familiar with the series, then you will know that each emotion is thoroughly felt, and this is the same for this novel. My heart was touched- it beat madly in my chest- and I felt head over heels for Hunter and Maisy's love story. And I think many readers are going to feel the exact same way.

If you are looking for a deep and breathtaking romance with a cast of fantastically real characters that will capture your heart then I highly recommend this book (along with the others in the series). You can read this book as a standalone, although I would highly recommend reading at least the first book prior to diving into this one. Just remember, they are all interconnected so I think readers will feel much more connected to the story itself if read in order.

This series was a standout 2017 surprise for me. I loved every minute of it and so The Bitterroot Inn is a bittersweet goodbye for me. I loved every second I got to spend with these richly layered and fascinating characters Ms. Devney gave us, and the compelling storytelling that drove them.

Maisy might have been the most fascinating character of all, actually. With her checkered past, and her completely adorable little boy - I was all set up to be held emotionally captive by her story. And, it was good. It was good. But it missed the mark a little bit, for me. I wanted more grit. As far as backstories go, Maisy's was hands-down the most traumatic, but I feel like I felt the punch of that more from the previous stories than her own. Everything seemed to work a little too smoothly here, things moved quickly, and there were not really any surprises for me.

I did love Maisy and Hunter's love story, though it took me a little bit to connect with it. I think part of my problem in general is that many of the techniques used to push the conflict forward are some of my least favorite. However - I cannot say enough amazing things about Hunter and the swoonworthy way he treated Maisy and Coby (gah! A man who is good with kids. *ded*). I loved every alpha-protective inch of him, and was so thrilled with the resolution to their story. It was beautiful and while I was able to predict so much of what happened along the way, there were definitely pieces of the ending that I didn't see coming.

In all - this series has been such a treat and I'm so glad to have been along for this epic ride. I can't wait for more from this author in the future! ~ Shelly, 3.5 Stars

I’ve been both looking forward to reading the final book in this amazing Jamison Valley series. We’re talking months that I’ve been dying to read Maisy’s story since meeting her in The Coppersmith Farmhouse. #bookloverproblems

In The Bitterroot Inn, at last we get Maisy’s HEA, right? I mean, seriously . . . the poor woman has been through hell and back, but she’s finally found her footing. And with the love and support of her family is making a difference in her hometown of Prescott, Montana by updating the old in and renaming it The Bitterroot Inn. It’s all about rebirth and renewal . . . now it’s time to find a little romance, right? Maisy loves her son, Coby. Loves her life, loves her close friends and family, but she’s a bit lonely.

Enter Hunter Faraday. He’s everything Maisy’s ever wanted in a man. He’s smart, sexy, and loves her son and makes her feel like she’s the center of his world. But he’s not everything he appears to be and when the truth comes out, will Maisy ever trust him again.

I have to admit that I struggled a little bit to fully connect with Hunter and Maisy, but once I did, I truly loved their relationship—most especially the relationship Hunter and Coby shared. That was something special to see! But part of me wanted shake both Maisy and Hunter for holding onto the secrets of their pasts, especially some of the things that Hunter failed to reveal. The pace of their romance worked well for me too—it didn’t come across as forced. It was a wooing of epic proportions on Hunter’s end.

And while many parts of The Bitterroot Inn were predictable, I was taken by surprise at the end. And let’s talk about that Epilogue. That was perfect for the ending of the series! ~ Missy, 4 stars
