Life for twenty-seven-year-old Maria Brown consists of living in her tiny hometown, working the same job she's held since high school, and shouldering the responsibility of caring for her father. She's lived a contained life for so long, she knows no other way to exist.
The moment NFL star, Malachi Douglass, lays eyes on Maria, he knows she's the woman he's been praying for and embarks on a journey to tear down her walls and make his home in her heart. Maria's become accustomed to suffocating within the boundaries of her small life. Maybe Malachi is just what she needs in order to learn how to breathe again.
Married at sixteen, a mother twice by seventeen, and thrice a mother and divorced by twenty-four, Adrienne Thompson is no stranger to adversity. Not your typical teenage mother, she went on to complete her college degree and to earn her nursing license. She attributes God's faithfulness as the catalyst for her success in life. Now, having raised three children as a divorced mother, she is sharing a long hidden talent and passion with the world. Using the lessons that life has so expertly taught her as a guideline (betrayal, abusive relationships, self-esteem issues, witnessing the deteriorating effects of drug abuse), she has created stories that will both entertain and inspire the reader.
Adrienne currently resides in Arkansas in her newly empty nest. Formerly an RN, she now writes and publishes her stories full time. She is also a motivational speaker.

a little conflicted as I write this review. For Malachi alone it deserves five stars, but I would have liked to see more growth and development within Maria. Throughout the entire story she's portrayed as this young girl who gave up everything for her family, and we don't see her stand up for herself until the end. After that, it's the end. I don't know. Maybe it's the author in me wanting to have seen more closure with Maria. Maybe her starting a small sewing business or going back to school. Who knows? Maybe Adrienne has a series where we'll see these two grow up her sleeve. Whatever the case, this was a really sweet read. I smiled practically every chapter Malachi was in, and I loved the way he loved and covered Maria.
This was such a great read. I especially love that the heroine was a size 16. It showed that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and just because you're a little thicker, it doesn't mean that you can't be in a relationship with a good looking man. I am making sure I have every book out by this author.
I loved this book! Love stories make you feel a certain way. Maria Rose Brown had experienced some hurt and it locked her in a place she thought was normal. Enters a young man who adored her and was focused on loving her-Malachi Levi Douglass but she was afraid at first. So much pinned up emotions kept her bound but when she choose to forgive and release that anger boy what was waiting on her. The story was so realistic that I could relate to Maria's character. She came from a small town and she hadn't been exposed to a lot and she felt a little low and awkward at first. But Malachi was so understanding and patient with all her little issues. Ms. Two reminded me of this lady from my hometown with her red Afro wig and all. Lol. I would love to hear more from this couple and her parents remarriage and their health. What was the deal with Felton Jr with his sister? The soundtrack was nice. The author put the list in front of the book so I managed to have it playing while I was reading. Books and music are great companions to get a real feel for what's going on in the book. I'm an avid music fan too. Ms. Adrienne Thompson never lets down her readers down. Hats off to you!!! I would highly recommend to others to enjoy. Love is still possible!
This book was an excellent read on how when we don't forgive someone and let it keep festering, you will wind up bitter, lonely and unhappy. Especially when you have something devastating happen to you as a child or teenager, there is no one you feel you can hold onto for support and help. You see this in Maria and when someone who comes into her life like Malachi did, it was hard to accept his genuine feelings of love and wanting to take care of her. In Maria's mind what does he want with a country girl like me and Malachi is a famous handsome professional NFL player. I love how the characters flowed together and see how God will place or cause things to happen to see him take something bad and turn that situation into something good. You can really feel the emotions of anger, sadness, hurt, selfishness, love, hate, forgiveness and sometimes shock as you are reading the story. I recommend this book to read and it is a very good page turner from the beginning to the end. Cassandra H.
This book right here kept me from beginning to end. I could've finished it in one sitting it was just that good. Maria's character was well developed as was Malachi's. I kept that this book wouldn't make me cry but doggone it , it did-had me balling like a baby.
This storyline was also very well developed. It speaks to a situation that some children find themselves in. I especially loved that the hero was man of God and he helped the heroine in her walk.
She has done it again. I found myself as Maria and Malachi's biggest cheerleader, as they battled every obstacle thrown in their path. Only the love of God can trigger forgiveness for heartaches like the one Maria endured. Only the love of a good man can help a broken woman find her way to happiness again. And the love of both can set you on a path of healing.
As always, Ms. Thompson tackles tough issues with characters you easily become endeared to. I found myself at times envying Maria. Excellent story, Ms. Thompson! Splendid indeed.
I liked this book and wanted to give it a higher rating but there were a few things that were missing for me. I would have liked to see more growth from Maria. It seemed like she basically stayed the same throughout the whole book though she did stand up for herself in the end. Even then, it felt a little forced. Malachi was her driving force behind that and even though he was a wonderful man, I needed Maria to do more for herself, by herself. What does she want? What about her sewing business? I felt like we never got to the nitty-gritty of what truly made Maria tick.
Malachi was a catch though for sure. He knew what he wanted once he saw Maria and worked to make sure he got it. He was there for her; covering her, loving her, and allowing her to just be.
Adrienne, you've done it again. Finished the book in 1&1/2 days. Can relate to how Maria's brother acted thinking she was to care for their father since she was single. Was surprised to learn she had become pregnant and had an abortion. Happy she "woke" up and realized she needed to live her life and get what God wanted her to have. Will there be a series to this one?
At first I was like I'm not go like this. It was moving a little slow. It picked up. This is my first book by this author. It felt a little rushed. It is a short read. I felt some things could have been added and described more. I lived Malachi. Maria made me mad at her at times. What was the problem with Felt? All in all it was a good read. I would like to see an update on this couple in another book.
Awesome job!!! Maria put her dreams on hold to take care of her dad after her mom walked away. Maria was so hurt and so angry about her mom leaving. Maria stayed in the small town, worked and took care of her dad and went to church. Until one day at church she introduces a guest speaker. After that her life changes.
This is my first book by this author. I loved it. This is truly a story about how God will bring you through if you just believe and trust him. I could feel the pain, rejection, depression, and love in this book. What a wonderful love story. I will be reading more of your books.
Had to force myself to stop reading, couldn't put it down at work. Ms. Thompson reminds us of what God will do! It was easy to relate to Maria. I could truly see myself in her, I was that girl who took care of the family. Hats off to Adrienne Thompson what an awesome job. Can't wait to read the next book!
Very nice book! It was a great weekend read for me! I enjoyed the love Malachi has for Maria. I understood where Maria's low self worth came from but at times seemed too much when she was dealing with Malachi. In the end, he saw her for who she was flaws and all and still loved her for her, something rare in life!
It was a very sweet story. I'm glad Maria was able to heal and forgive so she could move forward with her life. By the end of the book I couldn't stand her brother what a jerk.
This was a different story for me. In a good way. Maria had been stuck in a miserable routine for far too long! Malachi was a fresh of fresh air. Loved that he was humble and focused on showing Maria that he was different. Glad the family found their way........
I stayed up all night to finish this book, Adrienne pulled me into this story because each character felt real to me. Thank you Adrienne for waking me from my dry spell of reading, and for bringing me back to wanting to read again.
Excellent read, I loved the characters and storyline. Adrienne Thompson stories are always unique and thoughtful. Malachi and Maria are great together. I recommend this book.
I enjoyed Breathe Again. Throughout the book, I was worried that Maria would not do what was best for her and that she would not follow her heart. In the end, it all worked out. I definitely recommend this book.
I enjoyed the the characters. Especially Maria, she reminds me of me. How she held on to hurt for so long. How she was miserable for so long that she became comfortable in that misery. It gave me some perspective on the way I deal with situations.
Once again I was taken into the story as if I was in Arkansas and Dallas. I felt the emotions of the characters -smiled when they smiled, laughed, felt their pain. Another great read from Adrienne Thompson!
Exhale is what Love finally enables Maria to do once she learns to see clearly and forgive her parents. Msg Thompson does an excellent job of describing a plethora of emotions.
It was a good book. Loved Malachi. However, Maria kind of got on my nerves. Couldn't leave the little town because of what others thought about her. Bump that. Willing to let the love of her life go for that town. Unrealistic to me.
I am in love with the message of this book!!! It gives me hope to see the main character find forgiveness for those who hurt her through the love of God and the man he sent to her. It reminds a lot of us that we won’t be down forever and joy will come.
Enjoyed this book. The author was able to get the reader to feel what Maria felt, even the uncertainty of being good enough for someone like Malachi - from tears and fears to laughter and cheers.
I enjoyed this book. I love getting to know the main characters. I think the storyline is very relatable. This book is a very easy, comforatble read. This is the first book I've read by this author. Will definitely be reading more.
The book was full of life moments. It was a book of deep hurt, compassionate, and profound. It showed holding on to hatred toward family hurts you as well as them. It is best to talk about your hurt and pain rather than holding on too unforgiveness.
This is my first read of this author. A very cute and well written feel good story about letting go of the past so you can receive your blessings. Loved Malachi. Good read.
