This book Small Great Things tells the story of Ruth, a discriminated black woman from the perspectives of the main characters Turk, Kennedy and Ruth herself. Ruth was relieved from her duties as a delivery nurse because of her skin colour by a White Supremacist father. The baby she was supposed to attend to died while Ruth was alone with the baby in the bursary and this led to a court case that would teach us lessons about empathy, forgiveness and love.

Best book I've read all year and I've read a lot of books.
This book looks at race from all angles - black people who experience it, the extreme ideology of white supremacists, and your ordinary white person who thinks they aren't racist but fail to recognize their white privilege.
At times this book made me uncomfortable, angry, sad and unsettled. Though it is a work of fiction I found it relevant to what is happening today in society and it sickens me that people of color are treated as less.
I highly recommend it, though it will leave you feeling quite uncomfortable at times, it's a reality that I think is important to learn about especially if you are white.

Great book!
Speaking for myself, learning about racism and white privilege is a long time experience. Meaning I've got a long way to go.
This book was recommended to me by a library patron who told me it helped her better understand what's happening in the US today.
The story is that a black nurse was forbidden to touch the baby of a white supremacist. The hospital went along with it.
Things of course happen and the nice white female lawyer defends the nurse.
There is so much that is learned by the lawyer along the way.
I listened to this book. There is the use of the word "nigger" quite a bit which is hard to hear. But this story couldn't be told authentically without it.
