I had never heard of this author so I figured I would check her out. This book is a new world prequel. It was a bit confusing at first because you got 2 different stories. It interchanges every other chapter. Towards the middle and ending you can understand the story so much better. She is a good author and will most definitely read her again!!!

This is part of the Multiverse Collection and follows the main characters Lorcan and Faye as they interact after Lorcan goes after his last big score. Lorcan does spy work and even though he comes from a wealthy background, he gets his kicks and makes a living by taking jobs and using his skills to hack or steal items, from often difficult locations. He wants to hang up his spurs after this last job, using the payoff to put a ring on the finger of the love of his life, Orla. He has a fake persona and company background set up, but doesn’t know where the target is located and must just follow the instructions given at the last minute. It turns out his target is on a yacht, tied up but is soon untied to float along the water. Not quite the quick in and out Lorcan was hoping for!

His job goes wrong when others are after the same item than he has been sent for and an explosion sends him to the bottom of the sea. He is saved by a mermaid called Faye, who is hiding her true identity from those around her. The item they are all after is called the Key of Pisces and it will allow Faye and her family to regain their former position. The key was made by a being called the Keymaster and they can be used to unlock sources of energy and power, so are well sought after! Lorcan has ended up in a strange world deep under the sea and not accessible by him as a human. Now he is surrounded by people that can’t understand him and can sic their ‘pet creatures’ on him at any moment. If they think he knows the location of the key, then his life will end very abruptly!

Another great character is Kai, Faye’s personal guardian and trained warrior, who stands at over seven foot tall. His position means his love for Kaye is not reciprocated, she says he is her equal, but ignores the love he feels for her! One of Faye’s household, Millie, is a danger to both Lorcan and Faye, as she is also working undercover, to gain power and information for her family. A prophecy given to Faye and her father by a Shaman, when he took her to the human realm as a baby, stated Faye would fall in love with a Silver Blood Warrior and somehow, she reckons that it must be Lorcan and that he will be the key to her and her family’s future. What she will learn is that love is going to be very important to her quest for the key, as did the Keymaster when he created it! Lorcan doesn’t want to survive if he is not going to be able to return to his love Orla, but Faye’s adherence to the Shaman’s words, leave her wanting Lorcan to love her instead.

She will soon learn that you can’t change who you love, no matter what else is at stake. Love is a very important part of the tale and the only way for all the parts of the key to connect together as they should. An intriguing story, with a glimpse of life under the sea and also the beginnings of the Multiverse. A journey through hell for those who do not belong and creatures that are treated as slaves and used for nefarious means. An easy read and I look forward to reading some more of this collection. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

A well-written story introducing the Merworld and the creatures living in the submarine dimension.
Everyone wants the Key of Pisces - humans, supernaturals, creatures from every dimension.. and the spy game or hunt has begun. Lorcan has accepted this as his last job before proposing to Orla, but certainly has not expected it to get out of control.. and end up underwater in a hospital for a long time. Faye and her family are also searching for the key, in order to restore the reign in their realm. But traitors are everywhere, and to get the job done, they all must cross time and dimensions to fix the errors of their prior choices.
Interesting story when it comes to the world setup and the creatures living in the underwater realm. I also very much liked the switching between the story of the Key master and the baby angel, and the main storyline following Faye and Lorcan. However, I was lacking some more emotional depth, although there were emotions present, just not enough for me to dive in fully. Comparing this prequel to other prequels and epilogues I have read by this author, this one came out weaker. But it'd still motivate me enough to pick up the following series.

As always, this author gives us a well-written story of the Merworld and the creatures at home there. Humans, supernaturals, and beings from every dimension want the Key of Pisces. The spy game has begun, and Lorcan has accepted this as his last job before proposing to his childhood sweetheart, Orla. He thought it would be a simple task, expecting to easily talk his way out of any problems, but not only does he face communication issues, but traitors are everywhere. When the job goes wrong, Lorcan is trapped in the magical world underneath the sea with mer-creatures hunting for the secret key they believe he has stolen.

The author’s stories are wonderfully written with scenes described so well the readers will feel they are right there under the waves. The story line flows along at a comfortable pace as we wonder how Lorcan will ever get out of this mess. Grab your copy and meet many of the characters you have either already seen or will see as you move throughout the Multiverse.

D.N. Leo has not just created another world, but another Universe! No, scratch that, a MULTIverse! I have read a few other books by this author and I love the way that issues that we should address as a society are woven into the themes of these books. Leo takes diversity and equality to another level yet still shows us how sick and downright evil it is to judge another by anything other than the content of their character. I love this particular series as it does give us the background information for characters that appear in later series. It is enjoyable and an easy read.

Fascinating prequel to the Merworld Trilogy

Love this prequel! Great way to introduce us to the Merworld! Great world building, love the pace, and exciting characters, plus action-packed! Love, love, love. Gives great background on the entire beginning to Merworld Trilogy, so an excellent read, and a great resource to how it all gets started and everything comes together. Neat way to bring Lorcan into Faye and Kai's world, while giving us some background on all of them. Very interesting!! Definitely a must-read. Still great after reading the Trilogy as well...

This is the typical story....Man decides to do one last job and then retire, easy right?? Or NOT

This wasn't supposed to happen!

How did he end up there?

What is it that they want and....why do they think he has it???

****** ************** ******

I really enjoyed this story and it is a good mix of ideas and great characters.
Can't wait for more!

The Power of Love

Silver Blood shows up in the oddest of places! This transdimensional undersea world interfaces with the human world and various injuries repeatedly reduce various heroes to the brink of death. With recent discoveries of the permanence of brain trauma, I envy none of these characters their old age! There are some time loops here, too. Narrator Catherine Edwards has fun playing with accents and voices to represent the many worlds at play.

This was another great book by a very talented author. This book is a combination of some of the author's other characters but the other books do not have to be read to understand this one. The author does a fantastic job of world-building and creating memorable characters. I am looking forward to seeing where the author takes this new series.

With each one of these worlds I am always amazed at what this author comes up with and now we go under the sea. As always there is plenty of action and a multitude of things happening all at once and neatly pieced back together at the end. Love this author's imagination and this peak into the sea. Can't wait for more

I really liked this book. I haven't been able to read all the books chronologically and it's a bit confusing because the author has a lot of multiverse books, but I read whichever one that comes my way and so far, the ones I've read are so good. This is my 3rd book by this author and I've found all 3 of them very interesting.

This was a powerful story, hooked into the “ecology” of DN Leo's multiverse books but standing on its own merits. Truly strong characters, a new view and continuation of a great world-building achievement and a adrenaline hitting plot with a great romantic element. Hard to believe this is just the prequel. I'm looking forward to the follow-one. Highly recommended.

If you haven't read any of the Multiverse books, this PG15 prequel will introduce you to Lorcan, Faye, Kai, Orca, and the Shaman of Black Mountain, all in only one morning. If you have read some of the books, this will give you some of the backstories.

Again, I am amazed by D. N. Leo’s imagination and ability to link all her novels to the multi-verse. This was no exception. Wonderfully written that brings the words to real life as if I can see for myself and a great storyline that is easily read. Once I picked it up, I couldn’t put it down, which is what happens when I pick up any of her books.

The beginning catches your imagination and you want to read the book. The next chapter makes you wonder what is going on, but by the fifth chapter the author has woven the parts together. Overall it is an excellent prequel and will entice you to get the next book in the series.

Pisces is quite simply a joy to read. It’s so easy to feel the water smoothing over skin. To watch evil meet its match. To see, hear and feel love be embraced. I loved this story and was saddened to reach that dreaded last page! The book is truly fantastic fantasy!

I'm really giving this a 3.5 but I liked it well enough to round it up to 3 instead of leaving it at a 3. The only issue I really had with this story is that it sort of jumps around and some of the things that happen are not really explained as well as they could be. Now, this is part of an ongoing series and whole world so those questions and curiosities could be answered in the other books and I just haven't read them yet.

In this particular story, Lorcan and Faye end up working together after Lorcan's heist goes wrong and he actually ends up helping Faye on numerous occasions. Now Faye is no damsel in distress yes she gets pushed around a little but she is strong and knows her own mind and her purpose. I'm very happy about that...I'm not a huge fan of stories with underdeveloped characters whether they be male or female. I will say I do think they could be developed a bit further but for this being the first book into the world that I've read I've enjoyed and it and I can totally see the characters growing and learning as the books progress.

I want to know more about the guy who saved the baby angel.....I mean grrrr I don't even know his name or what he named the baby and I want to know more. So, if your looking to jump into a full fledged world with multiple story lines and book series then I say you've found the start of that in Pisces and D.N.Leo
