I wish I got to read the same book as everyone else, instead I got a never ending rant and expressionless illustrations. First let me say that my feelings towards this has absolutely nothing to do with differing political views (well, apart from a thousand details, I'm sure, but that's true for the rest of humanity and myself too).
Jonsson has written what the publisher claims to be a "graphic novel", but there's nothing in this that can by best will in the world be regarded as a comprehensive story. On the contrary, the different rants barely hold together and I frequently found myself backtracking, because I thought I skipped pages.
He's angry with a lot of things, especially the urbanisation of Sweden and dying rural areas. He's extremely angry with himself too, since he's done the exact same thing himself contributing to this. And he also contributes a lot to all the urban structures and practises that he despises. He keeps on doing them though, which is a mystery to me how someone with that amount of angst over his privileged and stereotypic life in Stockholm can even consider just carrying on with it? It makes me think he's very successfully separated his ideology from his actions. "Don't do as I do, do as I say"
The only ones to blame (if I recall correctly, this already fades from my memory) are faceless corporations. What they should be doing is not suggested. I think the idea is to roll back industrialisation, so that we can employ people in manual labour in rural areas again, because the 1900-1950's were 'better times'. Or we should just shower money there because every little village "has to" stay alive, regardless if someone wants to live there anymore or not.
